baptism_n but_o where_o be_v there_o any_o thing_n to_o show_v that_o the_o administration_n of_o baptism_n point_v to_o by_o the_o synod_n be_v undue_a or_o that_o it_o be_v a_o undue_a say_v to_o soul_n in_o such_o a_o case_n as_o heman_n psal._n 88_o who_o complain_v that_o god_n wâ—â—th_n lie_v hard_o upon_o he_o and_o that_o he_o be_v shut_v up_o and_o can_v not_o come_v forth_o that_o god_n seem_v to_o cast_v off_o his_o soul_n and_o to_o hide_v his_o face_n from_o he_o that_o god_n fierce_a wrath_n go_v over_o he_o that_o god_n terror_n have_v cut_v he_o off_o and_o that_o examine_v one_o self_n or_o of_o the_o special_a exercise_n of_o faith_n do_v always_o argue_v the_o want_n of_o that_o faith_n which_o be_v to_o be_v examine_v and_o â—xerciâ—ed_v and_o therefore_o what_o the_o synod_n here_o say_v may_v still_o stand_v that_o â—he_v person_n speak_v â—f_n may_v be_v believer_n and_o yet_o want_v that_o ability_n to_o examine_v themselves_o and_o that_o persuasion_n that_o the_o parent_n may_v continue_v in_o the_o covenant_n and_o yet_o the_o child_n of_o such_o parent_n be_v no_o part_n of_o the_o church_n we_o confess_v we_o see_v no_o sufficient_a ground_n for_o such_o a_o persuasion_n for_o the_o reverend_a author_n do_v here_o confess_v that_o it_o be_v true_a that_o the_o frame_n of_o the_o covenant_n run_v to_o we_o and_o to_o our_o seed_n after_o we_o in_o their_o generation_n pag._n 32._o and_o if_o this_o be_v true_a be_v it_o not_o then_o true_a that_o if_o the_o parent_n continue_v in_o the_o covenant_n the_o seed_n of_o such_o parent_n be_v also_o part_n of_o the_o church_n for_o how_o can_v they_o be_v say_v to_o be_v in_o the_o covenant_n which_o be_v the_o constitute_a form_n of_o the_o church_n and_o yet_o be_v no_o part_n of_o the_o church_n which_o be_v constitute_v thereby_o but_o say_v the_o reverend_a author_n this_o must_v be_v understand_v and_o apply_v suitable_o to_o the_o different_a constitution_n of_o church_n under_o different_a administration_n of_o the_o covenant_n under_o the_o old-testament_n and_o under_o the_o gospel_n ans._n let_v this_o be_v grant_v yet_o as_o long_o as_o the_o thing_n itself_o be_v not_o deny_v which_o must_v not_o be_v deny_v for_o he_o confess_v it_o to_o be_v true_a viz._n that_o the_o covenant_n run_v to_o we_o and_o to_o our_o seed_n after_o we_o in_o their_o generation_n so_o long_o as_o this_o be_v not_o deny_v the_o dâ—fference_n in_o other_o thing_n between_o the_o old-testament_n and_o the_o new_a will_v not_o weaken_v our_o cause_n at_o all_o for_o though_o for_o constitution_n of_o church_n the_o church_n be_v then_o national_a and_o now_o congregational_a and_o though_o the_o administration_n of_o the_o covenant_n be_v then_o under_o many_o type_n and_o ceremony_n which_o be_v now_o remove_v and_o notwithstanding_o any_o other_o difference_n that_o can_v be_v name_v yet_o if_o there_o be_v not_o this_o difference_n also_o that_o the_o covenant_n do_v run_v to_o they_o and_o their_o seed_n in_o their_o generation_n but_o not_o to_o we_o and_o our_o seed_n in_o like_a sort_n if_o this_o difference_n also_o be_v not_o assert_v we_o see_v not_o how_o it_o can_v be_v avoid_v but_o even_o now_o as_o well_o as_o then_o if_o the_o parent_n continue_v in_o covenant_n the_o child_n do_v so_o also_o and_o so_o be_v part_n of_o the_o church_n and_o so_o what_o the_o synod_n affirm_v be_v gain_v for_o it_o can_v be_v say_v that_o though_o it_o be_v so_o then_o yet_o it_o be_v not_o so_o now_o except_o we_o shall_v deny_v what_o the_o reverend_a author_n confess_v to_o be_v true_a that_o the_o frame_n of_o the_o covenant_n do_v not_o only_o run_v to_o they_o and_o to_o their_o seed_n but_o also_o runâ—_n to_o we_o and_o our_o seed_n in_o their_o generation_n and_o if_o this_o be_v true_a than_o what_o the_o synod_n gather_v from_o it_o be_v true_a also_o that_o god_n have_v so_o frame_v his_o covenant_n and_o the_o constitution_n of_o his_o church_n thereby_o as_o to_o design_n a_o continuation_n and_o propagation_n of_o his_o kingdom_n therein_o from_o one_o generation_n to_o another_o for_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v so_o if_o the_o covenant_n run_v to_o we_o and_o to_o our_o seed_n after_o we_o in_o their_o generation_n whereas_o the_o synod_n say_v that_o to_o keep_v in_o the_o line_n and_o under_o the_o influence_n and_o efficacy_n of_o this_o covenant_n of_o god_n in_o the_o true_a way_n to_o the_o church_n glory_n the_o answer_n of_o the_o reverend_a author_n in_o sum_n be_v this_o that_o it_o be_v so_o indeed_o when_o there_o be_v a_o succession_n of_o faith_n make_v visible_a to_o the_o church_n charitable_a judgement_n but_o not_o so_o when_o such_o a_o membership_n be_v set_v uâ—_n in_o christian_a church_n whereby_o infant_n shall_v be_v baptise_a by_o right_a from_o such_o parent_n as_o be_v not_o in_o fâ—ll_a communion_n for_o what_o influence_n and_o efficacy_n hâ—th_v the_o covenant_n upon_o such_o parent_n whereto_o the_o answer_n be_v that_o if_o the_o parent_n be_v qualify_v as_o this_o proposition_n express_v there_o be_v manifest_a influence_n of_o the_o covenant_n upon_o they_o though_o yet_o they_o be_v not_o come_v so_o far_o as_o to_o be_v fit_a for_o full_a communion_n for_o when_o they_o be_v admit_v in_o minority_n be_v now_o when_o adult_n not_o only_o free_a from_o scandal_n in_o life_n but_o also_o endow_v with_o a_o competency_n of_o knowledge_n in_o the_o doctrine_n of_o faith_n and_o solemn_o assent_v thereto_o and_o own_o the_o covenant_n and_o therein_o give_v up_o themselves_o and_o their_o child_n to_o the_o lord_n we_o conceive_v all_o this_o do_v import_v some_o influence_n and_o efficacy_n of_o the_o covenant_n upon_o they_o but_o if_o for_o all_o this_o they_o shall_v be_v disow_v from_o have_v any_o part_n in_o the_o church_n and_o covenant_n of_o god_n how_o then_o can_v that_o be_v deny_v which_o the_o synod_n here_o say_v that_o by_o this_o cut_n off_o and_o disavow_v the_o covenant_n zion_n be_v hinder_v from_o be_v a_o eternal_a excellency_n and_o the_o joy_n of_o many_o generation_n for_o whatever_o joy_n it_o may_v be_v to_o the_o first_o generation_n yet_o if_o all_o that_o follow_v though_o qualify_v as_o the_o proposition_n express_v be_v nevertheless_o deny_v to_o have_v any_o part_n in_o the_o covenant_n and_o church_n of_o god_n till_o fit_v for_o full_a communion_n we_o do_v not_o see_v how_o such_o follow_a generation_n can_v be_v any_o great_a excellency_n or_o joy_n at_o all_o the_o synod_n have_v say_v that_o this_o progress_n of_o the_o covenant_n establish_v the_o church_n deut._n 29.13_o jer._n 30.20_o and_o that_o therefore_o the_o contrary_n do_v disestablish_v it_o the_o so_o now_o shall_v we_o think_v that_o the_o holy_a god_n do_v not_o so_o regard_v the_o purity_n of_o his_o church_n in_o those_o time_n and_o therefore_o do_v then_o establish_v the_o church_n in_o this_o way_n which_o now_o he_o will_v not_o do_v as_o be_v now_o more_o careful_a of_o the_o purity_n of_o his_o church_n we_o fear_v that_o to_o say_v this_o will_v be_v to_o the_o dishonour_n of_o god_n holiness_n and_o glory_n and_o plain_o it_o be_v that_o it_o be_v the_o same_o kingdom_n of_o god_n that_o be_v the_o same_o church-estate_n for_o substance_n and_o kindâ—_n which_o be_v take_v
