you_o secure_a and_o senseless_a of_o your_o sin_n &_o misery_n without_o god_n it_o be_v very_o like_a that_o you_o make_v but_o a_o blind_a bargain_n whereof_o you_o will_v have_v no_o real_a shall_v get_v no_o good_a of_o the_o sacrament_n because_o they_o resolve_v not_o to_o take_v christ_n to_o fulfil_v the_o condition_n of_o the_o covenant_n in_o they_o and_o be_v not_o in_o earnest_a to_o be_v in_o under_o the_o bond_n of_o the_o covenant_n yet_o if_o even_o such_o will_v serious_o resolve_v to_o fulfil_v the_o condition_n or_o rather_o to_o take_v christ_n to_o help_v they_o to_o fulfil_v it_o they_o shall_v be_v welcome_a or_o they_o be_v such_o as_o be_v doubt_v though_o they_o have_v some_o honest_a desire_n such_o will_v remember_v the_o bargain_n be_v mutual_a and_o they_o must_v engage_v to_o god_n if_o they_o will_v have_v god_n engage_v to_o they_o and_o if_o you_o have_v not_o do_v it_o before_o do_v it_o even_o now_o and_o the_o sacrament_n shall_v be_v useful_a and_o helpful_a to_o you_o in_o these_o respect_n more_o particular_o 1._o for_o seal_v this_o general_a trutâ—_n if_o i_o believe_v in_o christ_n i_o shall_v have_v eternal_a life_n in_o in_o the_o lord_n strength_n the_o performance_n of_o that_o which_o we_o be_v engage_v to_o for_o there_o be_v a_o great_a difference_n betwixt_o man_n fail_v and_o drip_v of_o infirmity_n and_o how_o to_o get_v it_o perform_v thus_o say_v the_o psalmist_n psa_n 56.12_o thy_o vow_n be_v upon_o i_o o_o god_n they_o take_v on_o vow_n to_o god_n and_o keep_v they_o on_o and_o walk_v as_o be_v under_o they_o this_o be_v a_o main_a thing_n to_o be_v look_v to_o in_o keep_v covenant_n 3._o this_o seriousness_n in_o perform_v appear_v in_o the_o fear_n that_o person_n have_v of_o go_v wrong_a and_o miscarrying_a they_o be_v afraid_a to_o break_v to_o god_n neither_o be_v any_o so_o suspicious_a of_o they_o as_o they_o be_v of_o themselves_o know_v by_o sad_a experience_n that_o their_o heart_n be_v deceitful_a above_o all_o thing_n and_o this_o be_v a_o very_a native_a evidence_n consider_v what_o we_o hear_v of_o our_o sickleness_n which_o can_v be_v without_o the_o impression_n of_o fear_n 4._o it_o appear_v in_o a_o holy_a carefulness_n and_o diligence_n to_o prevent_v that_o which_o they_o fear_v lest_o at_o any_o time_n they_o let_v a_o buckle_v slip_v to_o speak_v so_o and_o lest_o that_o which_o they_o fear_v come_v on_o they_o their_o fear_n put_v they_o to_o diligence_n to_o prevent_v the_o thing_n fear_v this_o make_v they_o to_o fast_o and_o pray_v and_o to_o be_v watchful_a over_o themselves_o in_o loose_a and_o untender_a company_n and_o to_o eschew_v they_o as_o far_o as_o they_o can_v and_o to_o hazard_v some_o loss_n rather_o than_o to_o put_v themselves_o under_o a_o snare_n watch_v and_o pray_v lest_o they_o fall_v into_o the_o sin_n of_o deal_v false_o in_o god_n covenant_n 5._o it_o appear_v in_o the_o sharpness_n of_o challenge_n when_o any_o thing_n miscarry_v in_o their_o hand_n they_o be_v soon_o challenge_v for_o the_o very_a first_o beginning_n of_o a_o breach_n a_o wrong_a look_n will_v affect_v they_o therefore_o faith_n job_n chap._n 31._o i_o make_v a_o covenant_n with_o my_o eye_n why_o then_o shall_v i_o look_v upon_o a_o maid_n and_o the_o heart_n while_o tender_a will_v loathe_v and_o scare_v at_o the_o be_v in_o covenant_n with_o god_n but_o such_o as_o will_v not_o disturb_v their_o carnal_a confidence_n ease_n and_o laziness_n nor_o put_v they_o on_o to_o painful_a diligence_n but_o we_o have_v no_o such_o mark_n to_o give_v neither_o dare_v we_o for_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n and_o because_o of_o the_o hazard_n of_o soul_n assign_v any_o such_o there_o be_v none_o such_o give_v or_o assign_v in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n nay_o let_v i_o tell_v you_o that_o if_o there_o be_v not_o painful_a diligence_n and_o faithfulness_n in_o keep_v covenant_n with_o gâ—d_n it_o will_v darken_v the_o light_n of_o any_o other_o mark_n that_o can_v be_v give_v and_o no_o doubt_n it_o be_v this_o negligence_n and_o unfaithfulness_n that_o make_v many_o good_a mark_n clear_a in_o themselves_o dark_a to_o many_o christian_n while_o they_o give_v not_o diligence_n to_o make_v their_o call_n and_o election_n sure_a and_o give_v not_o all_o diligence_n to_o add_v one_o grace_n to_o another_o and_o one_o degree_n of_o grace_n to_o another_o it_o be_v also_o the_o cause_n of_o uncomfortable_a walk_n yea_o of_o uncomfortable_a communicate_v but_o to_o be_v sincere_a &_o serious_a in_o own_v our_o covenant-engagement_n and_o faithful_o forthcoming_a in_o the_o fruit_n thereof_o and_o in_o a_o correspondent_a conversation_n be_v a_o mark_n that_o will_v give_v comfort_n and_o some_o quietness_n at_o least_o till_o comfort_v come_v the_o lord_n will_v comfortable_o confess_v
such_o as_o faithful_o confess_v he_o the_o three_o observation_n be_v that_o it_o be_v and_o will_v be_v the_o great_a study_n of_o person_n real_o enter_v in_o covenant_n with_o god_n to_o have_v it_o a_o abide_a bargain_n a_o perpetual_a covenant_n never_o to_o be_v forget_v this_o be_v their_o design_n as_o well_o as_o their_o duty_n that_o their_o practice_n and_o walk_n may_v be_v suitable_a to_o the_o covenant_n and_o it_o be_v the_o main_a thing_n imply_v in_o the_o word_n and_o that_o which_o we_o intend_v to_o insist_v on_o i_o shall_v in_o the_o prosecution_n of_o it_o covenant_n which_o it_o sum_v in_o these_o two_o word_n to_o have_v god_n to_o be_v we_o and_o ourselves_o to_o be_v god_n it_o be_v even_o that_o which_o we_o have_v in_o answer_n to_o the_o first_o question_n of_o our_o excellent_a catechism_n what_o be_v man_n chief_a end_n to_o enjoy_v god_n and_o to_o glorify_v he_o to_o enjoy_v he_o as_o our_o own_o god_n and_o to_o glorify_v he_o by_o acknowledge_v ourselves_o to_o be_v his_o and_o by_o devore_v ourselves_o to_o his_o service_n as_o be_v a_o people_n form_v for_o himself_o to_o show_v forth_o his_o praise_n this_o shall_v be_v
