themselves_o the_o clear_a pathway_n whereunto_o as_o yet_o they_o have_v not_o know_v or_o at_o least_o have_v not_o be_v so_o well_o acquaint_v with_o it_o be_v a_o common_a say_n but_o i_o judge_v it_o have_v somewhat_o of_o weight_n in_o it_o that_o custom_n become_v a_o second_o nature_n imply_v that_o whatsoever_o man_n shall_v for_o a_o long_a time_n have_v accustom_v themselves_o unto_o whether_o it_o be_v the_o own_n and_o maintain_v of_o any_o doctrine_n or_o opinion_n or_o whether_o it_o be_v the_o practise_v of_o what_o they_o so_o own_v and_o maintain_v or_o whatever_o else_o their_o long_a accustomedness_n thereunto_o render_v it_o a_o matter_n very_o hard_a and_o difficult_a for_o any_o man_n whosoever_o to_o remove_v they_o off_o their_o stand_n herein_o yea_o though_o their_o foot_n all_o this_o while_o have_v be_v set_v in_o slippery_a place_n and_o he_o that_o desire_v to_o remove_v they_o do_v it_o only_o in_o order_n to_o this_o great_a design_n viz._n that_o they_o may_v now_o stand_v in_o everlasting_a felicity_n yet_o nevertheless_o the_o transplantation_n in_o this_o kind_n become_v comparative_o as_o difficult_a and_o almost_o as_o hard_o as_o the_o change_n of_o nature_n itself_o or_o the_o turn_v she_o out_o of_o her_o course_n and_o upon_o this_o account_n i_o suppose_v it_o be_v that_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n him-himself_a speak_v thus_o can_v the_o blackmoore_n change_v his_o skin_n or_o the_o leopard_n his_o spot_n what_o then_o why_o then_o indeed_o may_v you_o that_o be_v accustom_v to_o do_v evil_a learn_v to_o do_v well_o imply_v that_o their_o long_a accustomedness_n unto_o evil_n be_v that_o which_o now_o have_v make_v their_o learning_n to_o do_v well_o so_o difficult_a and_o hard_a unto_o they_o this_o suppose_a and_o take_v along_o with_o we_o i_o conceive_v thou_o will_v not_o much_o wâ—nder_n at_o the_o manner_n of_o the_o carriage_n of_o the_o business_n now_o present_v to_o thy_o view_n otherwise_o indeed_o it_o will_v seem_v very_o strange_a to_o see_v a_o man_n who_o own_v himself_o as_o minister_v of_o the_o gospel_n who_o of_o all_o other_o ought_v to_o apply_v himself_o so_o to_o the_o mind_n and_o conscience_n of_o man_n as_o if_o possible_a to_o convince_v all_o gainsayers_a but_o however_o to_o be_v ready_a to_o give_v to_o every_o one_o that_o ask_v he_o a_o reason_n of_o that_o faith_n and_o hope_n that_o be_v in_o he_o to_o see_v or_o hear_v such_o a_o man_n deliver_v such_o thing_n for_o and_o under_o the_o name_n of_o truth_n of_o god_n which_o notwithstanding_o he_o refuse_v to_o vindicate_v and_o maintain_v against_o gainsayers_a yea_o a_o reason_n or_o account_v whereof_o he_o refuse_v to_o give_v though_o public_o desire_v deny_v also_o to_o answer_v the_o objection_n of_o his_o gain-say_a i_o suppose_v thou_o will_v ready_o resolve_v this_o practice_n of_o he_o mr._n jenkins_n into_o that_o principle_n beforementioned_a viz._n a_o prepossessedness_n of_o mind_n and_o prejudicate_a opinion_n either_o of_o the_o person_n or_o doctrine_n or_o both_o which_o now_o oppose_v he_o be_v wed_v and_o deep_o baptize_v into_o the_o spirit_n of_o his_o own_o opinion_n but_o as_o there_o be_v too_o much_o cause_n to_o suspect_v upon_o much_o the_o same_o term_n as_o they_o that_o be_v represent_v by_o the_o stony_a ground_n in_o our_o saviour_n parable_n matt._n 13._o 20._o be_v say_v to_o have_v receive_v the_o word_n viz._n not_o have_v much_o root_n in_o themselves_o be_v therefore_o unwilling_a to_o have_v his_o doctrine_n in_o this_o kind_n too_o much_o search_v into_o or_o the_o spirit_n of_o it_o too_o far_o taste_v by_o man_n lest_o when_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o gospel_n in_o this_o respect_n shall_v be_v bring_v forth_o into_o the_o light_n the_o glory_n of_o this_o his_o opinion_n shall_v thereby_o be_v lay_v in_o the_o dust_n my_o humble_a request_n therefore_o unto_o thou_o christian_n reader_n be_v that_o see_v such_o a_o rock_n before_o thou_o thou_o will_v be_v very_o eircumspect_a and_o careful_a lest_o thou_o thyself_o shall_v run_v upon_o it_o and_o be_v split_v in_o piece_n by_o it_o know_v this_o that_o truth_n be_v no_o far_o thou_o than_o it_o be_v receive_v by_o thou_o upon_o rational_a ground_n neither_o can_v it_o do_v thou_o any_o service_n like_o itself_o till_o it_o first_o enter_v into_o thy_o soul_n by_o the_o door_n of_o thy_o understanding_n and_o thence_o pass_v into_o thy_o judgement_n and_o so_o proceed_v into_o thy_o will_n and_o affection_n and_o so_o come_v forth_o into_o practice_n in_o thy_o life_n and_o conversation_n and_o it_o be_v never_o like_o thus_o to_o enter_v at_o least_o not_o strong_o to_o possess_v thy_o judgement_n and_o conscience_n unless_o thou_o shall_v be_v willing_a to_o weigh_v and_o pounder_n and_o look_v round_o about_o thou_o and_o consider_v on_o what_o account_n thou_o have_v or_o do_v receive_v it_o take_v therefore_o the_o apostle_n council_n try_v all_o thing_n sift_v they_o to_o the_o bran_n search_v they_o to_o the_o bottom_n try_v they_o thorough_o and_o then_o hold_v fast_o that_o which_o be_v good_a thou_o be_v never_o like_a to_o hold_v fast_o that_o which_o be_v good_a unless_o thou_o shall_v be_v willing_a and_o industrious_a to_o dive_v into_o the_o depth_n of_o the_o ground_n and_o reason_n of_o it_o and_o to_o see_v the_o strength_n that_o be_v in_o it_o that_o thou_o may_v be_v able_a thus_o to_o do_v in_o the_o controversy_n now_o before_o thou_o shall_v be_v my_o prayer_n
