believer_n and_o so_o also_o do_v the_o father_n of_o the_o church_n expound_v they_o word_n of_o our_o saviour_n hoc_fw-la est_fw-la corpus_fw-la meum_fw-la to_o be_v a_o figure_n of_o his_o body_n abominable_a in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n then_o he_o cry_v out_o of_o they_o by_o his_o prophet_n and_o so_o it_o be_v in_o all_o other_o ordinance_n as_o for_o the_o sign_n in_o the_o sacrament_n of_o canaan_n but_o fall_v in_o the_o wilderness_n so_o among_o christian_n many_o do_v eat_v and_o drink_v the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n which_o for_o their_o unbelief_n shall_v not_o enter_v into_o eternal_a life_n and_o so_o consequent_o wicked_a man_n and_o unbeliever_n eat_v the_o very_a body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n in_o his_o sacrament_n ans_fw-fr the_o text_n make_v evident_a by_o the_o prophet_n hosea_n who_o speak_v of_o such_o prayer_n as_o be_v make_v by_o ungodly_a man_n call_v they_o houling_n they_o call_v 〈◊〉_d a_o pâ—aâ—er_n â—â—â—m_o a_o 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d be_v no_o 〈◊〉_d then_o 〈◊〉_d not_o upon_o i_o when_o they_o houl_v upon_o their_o bed_n and_o the_o reason_n thereof_o be_v also_o render_v by_o the_o same_o prophet_n why_o such_o prayer_n be_v not_o accept_v of_o the_o lord_n to_o be_v this_o viz._n that_o they_o assemble_v themselves_o for_o corn_n and_o wine_n and_o not_o for_o spiritual_a blessing_n hosea_n 7._o 14._o so_o that_o carnal_a mind_a man_n pray_v only_o for_o carnal_a thing_n such_o as_o tend_v to_o their_o outward_a estate_n and_o condition_n but_o not_o any_o way_n to_o the_o desire_n of_o spiritual_n that_o be_v the_o to_o our_o mind_n by_o the_o holy_a ghost_n doubtless_o they_o be_v so_o make_v our_o own_o and_o as_o acceptable_a to_o god_n as_o may_v be_v but_o not_o otherwise_o for_o as_o it_o will_v be_v count_v a_o ridiculous_a thing_n for_o a_o child_n who_o have_v a_o occasion_n to_o crave_v a_o courtesy_n of_o his_o father_n write_v his_o mind_n in_o a_o paper_n and_o so_o read_v it_o to_o his_o father_n even_o so_o it_o be_v with_o he_o that_o come_v to_o peâ—ition_n god_n by_o read_v a_o prayer_n for_o his_o own_o particular_a which_o another_o man_n have_v former_o inunct_v sect_n 9_o obj._n but_o suppose_v he_o invent_v it_o himself_o and_o so_o read_v it_o be_v not_o that_o lawful_a read_v to_o read_v a_o prayer_n be_v ridiculous_a iâ—_n in_o tend_v as_o a_o prayer_n in_o the_o act_n of_o read_v ans_fw-fr it_o be_v more_o ridiculous_a then_o for_o a_o son_n to_o read_v his_o desire_n to_o his_o father_n for_o his_o father_n be_v ignorant_a of_o it_o before_o he_o hear_v it_o or_o read_v it_o but_o it_o be_v otherwise_o with_o god_n for_o he_o accept_v of_o no_o prayer_n but_o such_o as_o his_o own_o spirit_n dictate_v so_o that_o the_o very_o concerve_v of_o a_o petition_n in_o the_o mind_n be_v the_o act_n of_o prayer_n and_o that_o which_o be_v only_o acceptable_a to_o god_n though_o not_o vocal_o express_v as_o in_o isa_n 65._o 24._o before_o they_o call_v i_o will_v answer_v etc._n etc._n and_o whilst_o they_o be_v yet_o speak_v i_o will_v hear_v with_o dan_n 9_o 23._o at_o the_o beginning_n of_o thy_o supplication_n the_o commandment_n come_v forth_o therefore_o as_o i_o say_v before_o it_o be_v ridiculous_a to_o think_v that_o god_n stand_v upon_o such_o curiosity_n as_o set_v speech_n be_v or_o print_v paper_n read_v unto_o he_o since_o he_o to_o justify_v the_o truth_n by_o this_o than_o that_o have_v be_v speak_v it_o do_v full_o appear_v that_o true_a prayer_n have_v the_o spirit_n of_o prayer_n and_o contrariwise_o such_o prayer_n as_o be_v impose_v by_o man_n as_o be_v still_o in_o use_n and_o ever_o will_v be_v among_o carnal_a man_n have_v only_o the_o spirit_n of_o man_n and_o not_o of_o god_n for_o although_o they_o may_v be_v compose_v by_o such_o man_n as_o it_o be_v prayer_n the_o title_n common_a fit_o 〈◊〉_d to_o such_o prayer_n likely_a have_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n yet_o be_v they_o of_o no_o validity_n to_o a_o carnal_a man_n and_o as_o for_o a_o spiritual_a man_n he_o have_v no_o further_a need_n of_o they_o then_o to_o read_v they_o not_o as_o a_o immediate_a prayer_n but_o as_o a_o help_n to_o he_o against_o he_o pray_v and_o therefore_o a_o very_a right_n and_o suitable_a name_n be_v give_v to_o such_o sort_n of_o prayer_n by_o call_v they_o common_a prayer_n as_o they_o do_v that_o of_o the_o liturgy_n they_o be_v indeed_o common_a to_o all_o licentious_a fellow_n who_o be_v so_o accustom_v unto_o they_o as_o that_o their_o priest_n can_v repeat_v they_o although_o they_o be_v three_o quarter_n drink_v and_o yet_o think_v they_o pray_v gallant_o again_o by_o these_o prayer_n the_o godly_a can_v be_v distinguish_v from_o the_o wicked_a or_o reprobate_a when_o as_o in_o truth_n the_o gift_n of_o prayer_n be_v a_o main_a cognizance_n to_o know_v a_o child_n of_o god_n by_o and_o by_o which_o they_o be_v stir_v up_o to_o a_o great_a fervency_n zeal_n and_o cheerfulness_n in_o pray_v
