be_v seven_o sacrament_n she_o blame_v the_o protestant_n for_o cash_n ring_v five_o of_o they_o total_o and_o the_o six_o almost_o if_o not_o altogether_o also_o to_o wit_n that_o of_o the_o eucharist_n so_o call_v the_o protestant_n make_v that_o which_o the_o priest_n or_o minister_n give_v to_o the_o people_n but_o a_o figure_n or_o sign_n which_o to_o be_v sure_o be_v not_o any_o gospel_n mystery_n for_o the_o figure_n belong_v to_o the_o law_n and_o cease_v with_o they_o and_o the_o substance_n be_v come_v in_o the_o room_n of_o they_o which_o we_o acknowledge_v and_o whether_o it_o be_v more_o dangerous_a and_o hurtful_a to_o say_v that_o a_o figure_n sign_n or_o ceremony_n be_v cease_v which_o be_v not_o appoint_v to_o continue_v till_o the_o end_n of_o the_o on_o the_o mere_a naked_a outward_a revelation_n of_o the_o scripture_n but_o reach_v beyond_o that_o unto_o god_n himself_o inward_o move_v and_o objective_o or_o by_o way_n of_o object_n witness_v by_o his_o spirit_n to_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o scripture_n and_o because_o that_o inward_a objective_n testimony_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v somewhat_o real_o distinct_a from_o the_o outward_a testimony_n of_o the_o scripture_n although_o not_o contrary_a unto_o it_o nor_o separate_v therefrom_o as_o the_o adversary_n say_v therefore_o he_o hold_v of_o necessity_n a_o twofold_a object_n quaker_n own_v pretend_v to_o discover_v and_o introduce_v new_a doctrine_n into_o the_o world_n and_o impose_v they_o on_o people_n as_o new_a article_n of_o faith_n and_o as_o a_o new_a rule_n of_o their_o belief_n and_o manner_n for_o so_o much_o the_o author_n word_n imply_v when_o he_o say_v and_o last_o when_o with_o all_o this_o they_o to_o wit_n the_o quaker_n shall_v preach_v no_o other_o doctrine_n than_o what_o the_o apostle_n have_v preach_v and_o the_o catholic_n church_n receive_v than_o we_o will_v believe_v if_o they_o be_v lawful_o baptise_a that_o it_o be_v the_o spirit_n a_o argument_n rather_o against_o the_o author_n assertion_n than_o in_o favour_n of_o it_o and_o since_o the_o author_n do_v acknowledge_v that_o divers_a miraculous_a gift_n of_o the_o spirit_n do_v remain_v in_o the_o church_n for_o some_o hundred_o of_o year_n after_o the_o apostle_n it_o be_v strange_a he_o shall_v suppose_v the_o gift_n of_o preach_v and_o pray_v by_o the_o spirit_n to_o have_v expire_v before_o the_o rest_n but_o his_o prejudice_n against_o the_o principle_n of_o inspiration_n make_v he_o to_o fall_v upon_o such_o a_o absurd_a supposition_n now_o when_o i_o say_v the_o gift_n of_o preach_v and_o pray_v by_o the_o spirit_n be_v none_o of_o the_o miraculous_a and_o extraordinary_a gift_n of_o the_o spirit_n i_o mean_v it_o have_v nothing_o of_o any_o external_a or_o outward_a miracle_n in_o it_o any_o more_o than_o faith_n love_n hope_v or_o any_o other_o of_o the_o evangelical_n virtue_n all_o which_o be_v supernatural_a be_v internal_o miraculous_a as_o much_o or_o rather_o more_o than_o the_o outward_a and_o whereas_o the_o author_n plead_v that_o none_o of_o these_o miraculous_a gift_n be_v of_o a_o moral_a consideration_n as_o have_v any_o immediate_a influence_n to_o sanctify_v the_o person_n so_o inspire_v &_o consequent_o not_o necessary_a to_o remain_v in_o the_o church_n if_o then_o it_o can_v be_v prove_v that_o preach_v and_o his_o other_o brethren_n to_o paul_n and_o all_o the_o other_o apostle_n as_o if_o the_o apostle_n because_o of_o their_o inspiration_n and_o revelation_n know_v but_o in_o part_n and_o as_o child_n have_v little_a use_n of_o their_o rational_a faculty_n whereas_o this_o author_n have_v attain_v to_o the_o adult_n state_n he_o be_v become_v perfect_a in_o knowledge_n and_o like_o moses_n converse_v with_o god_n face_n to_o face_n and_o that_o without_o all_o revelation_n or_o inspiration_n immediate_o from_o god_n but_o how_o do_v moses_n converse_v or_o speak_v with_o god_n face_n to_o face_n to_o who_o the_o lord_n say_v thou_o can_v not_o see_v my_o face_n and_o live_v be_v it_o without_o all_o manner_n of_o immediate_a revelation_n or_o inspiration_n i_o trow_v not_o but_o rather_o after_o a_o more_o noble_a and_o high_a sort_n of_o divine_a inspiration_n than_o be_v common_o give_v to_o other_o prophet_n but_o how_o much_o more_o suitable_a and_o agreeable_a to_o truth_n be_v that_o exposition_n of_o paul_n word_n that_o be_v common_o give_v that_o paul_n compare_v his_o high_a attainment_n in_o this_o life_n even_o by_o vision_n and_o revelation_n or_o inspiration_n with_o what_o he_o do_v expect_v and_o wait_v for_o after_o death_n so_o as_o the_o high_a attainment_n of_o divine_a knowledge_n by_o revelation_n or_o inspiration_n belong_v to_o this_o life_n be_v but_o as_o the_o attainment_n of_o child_n in_o comparison_n with_o what_o the_o saint_n be_v to_o expect_v after_o death_n in_o the_o life_n to_o come_v but_o whereas_o the_o author_n think_v that_o the_o high_a revelation_n give_v in_o this_o life_n be_v but_o by_o symbolical_a representation_n upon_o the_o fancy_n as_o in_o a_o glass_n he_o be_v much_o mistake_v there_o be_v a_o revelation_n of_o god_n which_o god_n please_v at_o time_n to_o give_v to_o his_o child_n far_o beyond_o all_o symbolical_a representation_n or_o similitude_n of_o thing_n whereby_o god_n in_o christ_n and_o the_o pure_a glory_n of_o god_n be_v see_v and_o enjoy_v by_o the_o high_a and_o noble_a faculty_n of_o the_o soul_n which_o be_v a_o earnest_n and_o first_o fruit_n of_o eternal_a life_n nor_o be_v the_o author_n more_o dexstrous_a in_o expound_v all_o that_o diversity_n of_o gift_n mention_v 1_o cor._n 12.4_o 8_o 9_o 10._o to_o have_v be_v the_o miraculous_a and_o extraordinary_a gift_n of_o the_o spirit_n for_o why_o may_v not_o some_o of_o they_o have_v be_v the_o common_a and_o ordinary_a and_o other_o of_o they_o miraculous_a and_o extraordinary_a by_o joint_o on_o those_o who_o have_v they_o or_o not_o at_o all_o whereas_o the_o gift_n mention_v here_o be_v give_v some_o to_o one_o and_o some_o to_o another_o but_o to_o this_o i_o answer_v although_o the_o gift_n here_o mention_v in_o the_o forego_n verse_n be_v not_o the_o save_a universal_a gift_n mention_v by_o he_o which_o be_v give_v to_o every_o one_o of_o the_o faithful_a yet_o it_o do_v not_o follow_v that_o therefore_o they_o be_v all_o miraculous_a and_o extraordinary_a for_o some_o of_o they_o may_v be_v of_o a_o three_o and_o middle_a sort_n to_o wit_n give_v in_o common_a to_o all_o teacher_n and_o preacher_n and_o may_v be_v call_v save_v in_o such_o a_o sense_n or_o respect_n as_o the_o preach_a of_o the_o gospel_n and_o distinct_a office_n of_o the_o ministry_n may_v be_v call_v save_v as_o be_v instrumental_a to_o the_o salvation_n of_o soul_n as_o it_o be_v say_v in_o scripture_n that_o it_o please_v god_n by_o the_o foolishness_n of_o preach_v to_o save_v they_o that_o believe_v and_o if_o according_a to_o the_o author_n all_o the_o gift_n here_o mention_v be_v miraculous_a and_o all_o cease_v within_o some_o few_o age_n after_o the_o apostle_n day_n then_o according_a to_o he_o there_o be_v no_o word_n of_o wisdom_n nor_o of_o knowledge_n in_o the_o church_n which_o how_o harsh_a it_o will_v sound_v to_o christian_a ear_n i_o leave_v the_o spiritual_a to_o judge_v but_o that_o the_o author_n take_v this_o place_n of_o scripture_n viz._n 1_o cor._n 12.4_o for_o his_o text_n and_o foundation_n of_o his_o whole_a discourse_n to_o prove_v that_o all_o the_o gift_n here_o mention_v be_v miraculous_a and_o consequent_o expire_v within_o some_o few_o age_n to_o the_o apostle_n time_n be_v mere_o assert_v by_o he_o but_o not_o at_o all_o real_o prove_v and_o he_o may_v as_o well_o say_v that_o faith_n hope_n and_o charity_n be_v miraculous_a gift_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o consequent_o expire_v with_o those_o other_o for_o of_o they_o also_o he_o discourse_v a_o little_a after_o and_o comprise_v they_o with_o the_o other_o sort_n under_o the_o diversity_n of_o gift_n mention_v v._n 4._o whereas_o the_o spirit_n be_v one_o so_o that_o in_o this_o whole_a discourse_n of_o paul_n concern_v the_o diversity_n of_o gift_n chap._n 12.13_o 14._o he_o mention_v no_o less_o than_o three_o several_a sort_n one_o miraculous_a and_o extraordinary_a another_o sort_n common_a and_o ordinary_a to_o the_o teacher_n in_o the_o church_n and_o peculiar_a unto_o they_o a_o three_o sort_n viz._n faith_n hope_n charity_n common_a to_o all_o true_a and_o sincere_a christian_n so_o that_o this_o diversity_n of_o gift_n extend_v itself_o to_o all_o the_o church_n one_o way_n or_o another_o all_o have_v some_o although_o every_o one_o have_v not_o all_o even_o as_o the_o precious_a ointment_n that_o run_v down_o from_o aaron_n beard_n unto_o the_o low_a skirt_n of_o his_o garment_n and_o though_o when_o the_o apostle_n do_v treat_v of_o faith_n hope_n and_o charity_n it_o be_v in_o the_o thirteen_o and_o fourteen_o chapter_n yet_o the_o discourse_n be_v still_o one_o and_o the_o same_o as_o one_o entire_a piece_n and_o all_o the_o gift_n mention_v in_o all_o the_o three_o chapter_n be_v contain_v under_o the_o diversity_n of_o gift_n viz._n spiritual_a gift_n mention_v v_o 4._o of_o chap._n 12._o and_o all_o proceed_v from_o one_o spirit_n so_o that_o it_o may_v and_o aught_o to_o be_v say_v of_o they_o of_o all_o now_o there_o be_v diversity_n of_o gift_n but_o the_o same_o spirit_n and_o the_o best_a of_o these_o gift_n be_v faith_n hope_n and_o love_n and_o the_o great_a of_o these_o be_v love_n or_o charity_n and_o thus_o i_o have_v answer_v to_o every_o thing_n that_o seem_v material_a in_o his_o sermon_n to_o prove_v that_o divine_a inspiration_n which_o he_o call_v enthusiasm_n be_v cease_v in_o the_o church_n and_o though_o i_o have_v not_o observe_v strict_o the_o method_n of_o his_o sermon_n so_o as_o to_o answer_v to_o every_o thing_n in_o his_o order_n because_o the_o nature_n of_o my_o answer_n require_v to_o put_v several_a thing_n together_o that_o lie_v scatter_v in_o his_o sermon_n and_o sometime_o to_o take_v that_o last_o which_o he_o put_v first_o yet_o i_o hope_v the_o diligent_a and_o impartial_a reader_n will_v find_v that_o the_o whole_a substance_n of_o his_o sermon_n against_o divine_a inspiration_n be_v sufficient_o answer_v and_o now_o in_o the_o close_a i_o shall_v only_o take_v notice_n of_o some_o reflection_n of_o his_o on_o the_o people_n call_v quaker_n and_o some_o few_o other_o particular_n and_o then_o make_v a_o end_n chap._n v._n in_o his_o page_n 37._o edit_fw-la 3._o he_o undertake_v to_o show_v what_o a_o dangerous_a damnable_a and_o precarious_a principle_n that_o be_v which_o assert_n that_o immediate_a revelation_n or_o inspiration_n be_v not_o cease_v etc._n etc._n but_o the_o instance_n he_o bring_v to_o prove_v what_o he_o say_v be_v whole_o precarious_a and_o false_a as_o 1._o that_o it_o differ_v only_o from_o the_o pope_n infallibility_n in_o this_o that_o that_o make_v only_o the_o bishop_n of_o rome_n but_o this_o make_v every_o private_a christian_a a_o pope_n this_o i_o say_v be_v altogether_o a_o false_a charge_n as_o to_o we_o for_o we_o place_v not_o a_o absolute_a infallibility_n upon_o any_o person_n or_o person_n whatsoever_o but_o we_o say_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o all_o his_o leading_n teach_n and_o motion_n be_v infallible_a and_o man_n only_o conditional_o so_o far_o as_o they_o receive_v and_o be_v in_o unity_n with_o these_o leading_n and_o teach_n be_v infallible_a we_o say_v further_o that_o every_o true_a christian_a have_v
