believer_n than_o assent_n to_o the_o promise_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o obedience_n to_o his_o precept_n the_o first_o of_o which_o the_o apostle_n james_n chap._n 2._o very_o apt_o intimate_v the_o power_n or_o will_v of_o god_n when_o notwithstanding_o they_o may_v mistake_v in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o his_o essence_n wherefore_o this_o first_o part_n of_o faith_n be_v not_o take_v away_o by_o that_o error_n as_o for_o obedience_n to_o the_o precept_n of_o christ_n certain_o this_o can_v much_o less_o be_v take_v away_o by_o such_o mistake_n for_o neither_o be_v it_o the_o purpose_n vain_o boast_v of_o can_v find_v in_o their_o life_n and_o action_n neither_o indeed_o have_v any_o thing_n be_v enjoin_v we_o wherein_o our_o virtue_n and_o obedience_n may_v not_o show_v themselves_o for_o what_o need_n be_v there_o to_o invite_v we_o with_o reward_n to_o those_o thing_n which_o we_o willing_o perform_v of_o our_o own_o accord_n but_o they_o buy_v happiness_n at_o a_o very_a cheap_a rate_n who_o spend_v nothing_o but_o the_o labour_n of_o their_o wit_n upon_o it_o for_o he_o that_o be_v never_o so_o wicked_a and_o careless_a of_o his_o salvation_n may_v know_v i_o see_v how_o that_o faith_n be_v not_o perfect_a which_o be_v lively_a or_o how_o that_o be_v not_o lively_a which_o consist_v in_o a_o manner_n of_o its_o body_n and_o soul_n but_o you_o will_v say_v that_o we_o be_v necessary_o to_o believe_v many_o thing_n which_o be_v neither_o the_o very_a precept_n nor_o the_o promise_n to_o which_o i_o answer_v that_o they_o so_o belong_v to_o one_o of_o these_o that_o without_o they_o neither_o can_v be_v right_o perform_v of_o which_o sort_n be_v the_o omnipotency_n of_o god_n and_o the_o like_a attribute_n as_o also_o the_o creation_n providence_n etc._n etc._n which_o though_o they_o be_v neither_o the_o precept_n nor_o the_o promise_n yet_o can_v the_o belief_n of_o the_o promise_v consist_v without_o they_o so_o that_o a_o the_o end_n chap._n four_o that_o though_o faith_n and_o the_o holy_a spirit_n be_v the_o gift_n of_o god_n yet_o err_v person_n have_v and_o may_v have_v they_o yet_o some_o body_n may_v just_o must_v choose_v one_o of_o these_o twain_o either_o to_o imagine_v that_o eternal_a salvation_n be_v upon_o condition_n of_o faith_n real_o promise_v unto_o all_o to_o who_o it_o be_v preach_v and_o offer_v or_o that_o god_n offer_v that_o to_o certain_a man_n in_o word_n and_o tongue_n which_o he_o have_v decree_v not_o to_o perform_v in_o deed_n and_o truth_n whosoever_o shall_v make_v choice_n of_o the_o latter_a i_o entreat_v they_o that_o they_o will_v invent_v a_o new_a name_n for_o this_o thing_n or_o confess_v it_o under_o the_o old_a name_n to_o be_v hypocrisy_n that_o be_v guileful_a dissimulation_n and_o deceit_n what_o they_o imprudent_o ascribe_v to_o the_o most_o high_a god_n but_o i_o have_v little_a to_o do_v with_o such_o as_o have_v rather_o god_n shall_v be_v tax_v and_o convince_v of_o evil_a dissemble_n than_o themselves_o of_o error_n and_o therefore_o i_o lay_v this_o first_o ground_n of_o my_o answer_n that_o god_n be_v faithful_a and_o will_v serious_o to_o give_v eternal_a happiness_n to_o whosoever_o he_o offer_v the_o same_o by_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o gospel_n unless_o man_n themselves_o be_v want_v to_o their_o duty_n but_o he_o have_v exclude_v none_o of_o those_o to_o who_o ear_n the_o voice_n of_o so_o joyful_a a_o message_n come_v desire_v to_o gather_v even_o they_o that_o be_v unwilling_a if_o so_o be_v they_o leave_v off_o their_o unwillingness_n now_o if_o god_n in_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o gospel_n have_v promise_v eternal_a salvation_n promiscuous_o to_o all_o who_o desire_v to_o attain_v it_o he_o have_v also_o promise_v all_o mean_n tend_v to_o this_o end_n which_o be_v on_o his_o part_n necessary_o require_v for_o he_o will_v be_v ridiculous_a who_o shall_v promise_v to_o a_o beggar_n that_o he_o will_v present_o
