of_o the_o parent_n shall_v be_v so_o prejudicial_a to_o the_o child_n as_o to_o deprive_v they_o of_o the_o pledge_n of_o the_o remission_n of_o sin_n though_o they_o repent_v and_o believe_v when_o yet_o the_o posterity_n of_o infidel_n may_v be_v baptize_v upon_o their_o faith_n and_o repentance_n therefore_o the_o antecedent_n must_v needs_o be_v false_a viz._n that_o the_o baptise_v of_o infant_n of_o christian_a parent_n be_v not_o according_a to_o the_o rule_n of_o the_o word_n and_o consequent_o the_o contradictory_n thereto_o true_a viz._n that_o the_o baptise_v of_o infant_n bear_v of_o parent_n in_o covenant_n be_v according_a to_o the_o rule_n the_o assumption_n i_o conceive_v needs_o no_o proof_n see_v christ_n have_v appoint_v that_o the_o sacrament_n of_o the_o new_a testament_n shall_v be_v perpetual_a to_o the_o end_n of_o the_o world_n matth._n 28.19.20_o 1_o cor._n 11.26_o to_o those_o that_o shall_v be_v in_o covenant_n for_o the_o confirmation_n then_o of_o the_o proposition_n and_o make_v clear_a its_o consequence_n consider_v first_o there_o be_v no_o command_n example_n or_o other_o testimony_n in_o scripture_n can_v be_v give_v to_o show_v that_o other_o side_n be_v nothing_o diminish_v or_o straighten_a in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o new_a testament_n in_o comparison_n of_o what_o be_v under_o the_o old_a but_o rather_o much_o increase_v and_o enlarge_v in_o respect_n of_o manifestation_n more_o abundant_o to_o christian_n then_o jews_n as_o the_o whole_a course_n of_o the_o scripture_n show_v so_o that_o if_o god_n be_v please_v gracious_o to_o accept_v into_o covenant_n parent_n together_o with_o their_o child_n then_o and_o to_o become_v the_o god_n of_o the_o little_a infant_n as_o well_o as_o of_o the_o parent_n and_o to_o set_v the_o seal_n of_o the_o covenant_n upon_o the_o infant_n for_o the_o confirmation_n of_o faith_n and_o comfort_n of_o the_o parent_n for_o the_o time_n present_a and_o of_o the_o child_n for_o the_o future_a when_o they_o shall_v come_v to_o understanding_n and_o if_o he_o be_v then_o please_v to_o bind_v parent_n to_o offer_v and_o dedicate_v their_o child_n unto_o he_o by_o the_o seal_n of_o entrance_n into_o covenant_n much_o more_o he_o vouchsafe_v the_o former_a and_o require_v the_o latter_a now_o under_o the_o gospel_n to_o this_o you_o answer_v r._n a._n r._n god_n command_v peculiar_a to_o circumcision_n as_o be_v the_o seal_n and_o sacrament_n of_o entrance_n into_o the_o old_a covenant_n whereas_o some_o thing_n be_v essential_a and_o common_a to_o the_o seal_n of_o entrance_n in_o both_o covenant_n and_o therefore_o though_o the_o argument_n hold_v not_o from_o one_o sacrament_n to_o another_o in_o those_o thing_n that_o be_v accidental_a and_o proper_a to_o the_o one_o yet_o it_o hold_v from_o one_o to_o another_o in_o those_o thing_n that_o be_v common_a and_o essential_a as_o we_o just_o maintain_v against_o our_o adversary_n the_o papist_n that_o every_o sacrament_n be_v a_o seal_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n or_o of_o the_o righteousness_n of_o faith_n because_o circumcision_n be_v so_o to_o which_o you_o seem_v to_o assent_v call_v baptism_n a_o pledge_n of_o remission_n of_o sin_n though_o the_o name_n of_o pledge_n or_o seal_n be_v not_o express_o give_v to_o other_o sacrament_n in_o scripture_n now_o we_o learn_v by_o the_o israelite_n frequent_a use_v of_o the_o passeover_n that_o the_o sacrament_n of_o the_o lord_n supper_n be_v oft_o not_o once_o only_o as_o baptism_n to_o be_v receive_v by_o christian_n though_o otherwise_o we_o have_v not_o express_v clear_a command_n for_o the_o oft_o receive_v of_o it_o howbeit_o we_o be_v not_o restrain_v to_o one_o in_o the_o year_n only_o nor_o to_o the_o time_n of_o passeover_n nor_o to_o the_o use_n of_o unleavened_a bread_n and_o such_o thing_n as_o be_v proper_a to_o the_o passeover_n so_o though_o we_o do_v not_o in_o baptism_n observe_v the_o same_o ceremony_n nor_o precise_a time_n nor_o sex_n that_o be_v peculiar_a to_o circumcision_n yet_o we_o just_o gather_v that_o baptism_n belong_v to_o such_o person_n for_o age_n viz._n infant_n though_o there_o be_v no_o express_a command_n in_o scripture_n for_o it_o and_o that_o upon_o the_o ground_n aforemention_v second_o god_n command_n to_o abraham_n as_o he_o be_v the_o father_n of_o the_o faithful_a be_v sufficient_a warrant_n for_o our_o action_n though_o we_o have_v no_o special_a command_n for_o the_o same_o set_v down_o in_o the_o new_a testament_n much_o less_o bring_v to_o we_o by_o any_o special_a revelation_n as_o to_o abraham_n even_o when_o in_o regard_n of_o some_o special_a act_n and_o many_o circumstance_n we_o may_v not_o do_v as_o abraham_n do_v yet_o by_o virtue_n of_o god_n commandment_n to_o abraham_n we_o be_v bind_v to_o do_v that_o which_o be_v analogical_a thereunto_o 18.19_o gen._n 17.1_o
