and_o expression_n and_o the_o like_a and_o yet_o may_v not_o decay_v in_o grace_n the_o inward_a man_n the_o hide_a man_n in_o the_o heart_n that_o may_v wax_v strong_a and_o be_v more_o fresh_a green_a and_o fruitful_a 2._o second_o again_o i_o say_v to_o this_o that_o young_a christian_n may_v have_v more_o activity_n but_o old_a christian_n may_v have_v more_o skill_n and_o therefore_o christian_n that_o hold_v fast_o in_o their_o integrity_n if_o they_o do_v bring_v forth_o so_o much_o as_o the_o young_a tree_n yet_o they_o bring_v forth_o sweet_a and_o pleasant_a fruit_n and_o have_v any_o burden_n that_o be_v too_o heavy_a set_v yourselves_o under_o christ_n through_o christ_n you_o may_v do_v all_o thing_n and_o you_o may_v bear_v your_o burden_n with_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o more_o ease_n and_o comfort_n the_o soul_n under_o christ_n feel_v not_o the_o weight_n nor_o burden_n which_o will_v sink_v another_o that_o be_v not_o under_o this_o shadow_n 2._o and_o then_o again_o second_o as_o you_o shall_v work_v all_o your_o work_n under_o this_o shadow_n so_o be_v sure_a to_o walk_v under_o this_o shadow_n i_o say_v walk_v under_o this_o shadow_n in_o the_o whole_a perfect_v they_o have_v no_o be_v as_o to_o their_o relation_n death_n cut_v that_o asunder_o you_o shall_v see_v what_o job_n say_v job_n 7._o he_o complain_v there_o that_o all_o relation_n cease_v there_o and_o the_o servant_n be_v free_a from_o the_o master_n as_o this_o relation_n so_o all_o other_o relation_n when_o death_n come_v so_o that_o a_o man_n he_o be_v not_o he_o be_v no_o long_o as_o to_o his_o friend_n and_o relation_n and_o so_o he_o be_v as_o to_o the_o comfort_n of_o this_o world_n see_v job_n 7._o 9_o as_o the_o cloud_n be_v consume_v and_o vanish_v away_o so_o he_o that_o go_v down_o to_o the_o grave_n shall_v come_v up_o no_o more_o he_o shall_v return_v no_o more_o to_o see_v his_o house_n neither_o shall_v his_o place_n know_v he_o more_o he_o be_v consume_v like_o a_o cloud_n and_o go_v down_o to_o the_o grave_a and_o what_o have_v he_o no_o be_v no_o he_o speak_v only_o in_o relation_n to_o the_o thing_n here_o and_o to_o the_o comfort_n and_o enjoyment_n as_o to_o his_o house_n and_o so_o to_o all_o other_o comfort_n of_o he_o he_o shall_v not_o return_v to_o his_o house_n neither_o shall_v his_o comfort_n know_v he_o any_o more_o take_v notice_n of_o this_o it_o will_v hold_v forth_o something_o that_o be_v useful_a to_o we_o it_o will_v teach_v you_o three_o thing_n 1._o first_o of_o all_o it_o will_v teach_v christian_n to_o mind_n the_o thing_n of_o god_n and_o heaven_n more_o to_o be_v more_o take_v up_o with_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o world_n that_o be_v to_o come_v why_o as_o to_o all_o the_o thing_n of_o this_o life_n as_o to_o all_o your_o friend_n comfort_n relation_n house_n and_o land_n and_o other_o accommodation_n you_o shall_v not_o be_v ever_o long_o and_o therefore_o seek_v more_o after_o the_o thing_n of_o god_n and_o christ_n where_o you_o shall_v have_v a_o be_v to_o eternity_n think_v upon_o this_o christian_n when_o you_o be_v ready_a to_o lose_v god_n in_o the_o world_n when_o you_o sleep_v over_o relation_n to_o they_o oh_o then_o whilst_o you_o be_v in_o the_o world_n do_v live_v as_o those_o that_o be_v of_o the_o world_n but_o say_v as_o christ_n do_v now_o father_n i_o be_o no_o more_o of_o this_o world_n live_v more_o there_o where_o your_o be_v shall_v be_v to_o eternity_n live_v more_o upon_o god_n and_o christ_n and_o be_v more_o exercise_v in_o the_o contemplation_n of_o the_o hardly_o discern_v but_o yet_o there_o be_v the_o life_n of_o christ_n in_o they_o and_o so_o 2._o second_o again_o in_o a_o time_n of_o temptation_n in_o they_o in_o who_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n be_v hide_v it_o be_v hardly_o discern_v and_o you_o must_v not_o judge_v of_o a_o christian_a in_o that_o time_n i_o say_v in_o time_n of_o temptation_n for_o it_o be_v a_o time_n of_o winter_n now_o you_o know_v in_o time_n of_o winter_n the_o life_n of_o the_o tree_n be_v not_o discern_v there_o be_v no_o appearance_n of_o life_n in_o the_o tree_n but_o yet_o without_o doubt_n there_o be_v life_n there_o be_v life_n in_o the_o tree_n the_o life_n be_v still_o in_o the_o root_n and_o it_o will_v put_v forth_o again_o 3._o three_o a_o time_n of_o temptation_n be_v a_o time_n of_o swoond_v it_o be_v as_o a_o man_n in_o a_o swoon_n the_o operation_n of_o life_n cease_v it_o be_v out_o of_o view_n you_o can_v hardly_o discern_v that_o there_o be_v life_n when_o a_o man_n be_v in_o a_o swoon_n if_o you_o look_v upon_o he_o you_o see_v no_o symptom_n of_o life_n his_o countenance_n be_v change_v his_o lip_n be_v pale_a death_n sit_v upon_o he_o ay_o but_o let_v a_o skilful_a physician_n come_v and_o he_o shall_v feel_v some_o motion_n of_o the_o pulse_n or_o some_o breathe_n of_o the_o nostril_n though_o it_o be_v very_o weak_a that_o it_o will_v scarce_o move_v a_o feather_n yet_o there_o be_v some_o hope_n why_o so_o take_v a_o poor_a soul_n that_o be_v under_o temptation_n he_o be_v as_o in_o a_o swoon_n you_o say_v there_o be_v no_o life_n in_o he_o but_o yet_o let_v christ_n the_o physician_n come_v and_o he_o will_v discern_v the_o pulse_n and_o he_o will_v discern_v some_o motion_n some_o moving_n of_o spirit_n some_o breathe_n of_o heart_n though_o it_o be_v not_o obvious_a to_o the_o view_n of_o other_o thus_o you_o see_v that_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n be_v a_o hide_a life_n and_o therefore_o do_v it_o you_o say_v that_o there_o be_v not_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n in_o such_o and_o such_o as_o profess_v themselves_o to_o be_v christian_n because_o you_o see_v not_o those_o operation_n it_o may_v be_v springtime_n or_o it_o may_v be_v wintertime_n with_o they_o or_o it_o may_v be_v a_o time_n of_o swoond_v well_o notwithstanding_o there_o be_v life_n though_o thou_o discerne_v it_o not_o 2._o but_o again_o second_o to_o give_v another_o answer_n if_o this_o be_v the_o life_n of_o christ_n if_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n do_v produce_v such_o operation_n in_o the_o soul_n when_o shall_v we_o find_v life_n take_v this_o answer_n that_o though_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n do_v produce_v such_o operation_n in_o the_o soul_n where_o it_o be_v yet_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n be_v communicative_a to_o every_o one_o according_a to_o the_o place_n that_o every_o member_n be_v set_v in_o you_o know_v the_o soul_n be_v in_o the_o body_n do_v inform_v every_o part_n of_o the_o body_n and_o it_o grow_v but_o yet_o every_o member_n do_v not_o grow_v alike_o and_o one_o member_n have_v more_o strength_n than_o another_o will_v you_o say_v that_o the_o soul_n be_v not_o in_o the_o finger_n because_o the_o finger_n have_v not_o so_o much_o strength_n as_o the_o arm_n will_v you_o say_v the_o soul_n be_v not_o in_o the_o foot_n because_o it_o have_v not_o the_o strength_n of_o the_o leg_n why_o thus_o brethren_n it_o be_v with_o the_o body_n of_o christ_n all_o have_v not_o the_o same_o part_n and_o therefore_o all_o have_v not_o the_o same_o strength_n though_o the_o same_o spirit_n of_o life_n that_o be_v in_o jesus_n christ_n do_v inform_v the_o mean_a of_o his_o member_n though_o it_o do_v not_o grow_v so_o big_a and_o so_o strong_a as_o in_o other_o member_n yet_o the_o lord_n have_v provide_v by_o this_o dispensation_n to_o make_v up_o a_o sweet_a harmony_n in_o this_o body_n that_o every_o member_n shall_v have_v its_o strength_n and_o every_o member_n shall_v have_v its_o proportion_n its_o growth_n and_o increase_n according_a to_o the_o place_n it_o be_v set_v in_o that_o it_o shall_v not_o be_v shrink_v up_o in_o the_o body_n nor_o extend_v above_o what_o be_v meet_v but_o every_o member_n in_o the_o body_n of_o christ_n shall_v have_v its_o strength_n and_o its_o growth_n in_o proportion_n but_o then_o 3._o again_o three_o if_o you_o say_v that_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n be_v such_o where_o shall_v we_o find_v the_o life_n of_o christ_n in_o any_o if_o it_o work_v so_o i_o answer_v the_o life_n of_o christ_n do_v not_o work_v eminent_o in_o every_o operation_n that_o be_v put_v forth_o in_o every_o saint_n but_o one_o saint_n excel_v in_o one_o particular_a and_o another_o in_o another_o and_o herein_o be_v abundance_n of_o the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n i_o say_v the_o life_n of_o christ_n run_v in_o several_a vein_n in_o one_o christian_n it_o be_v more_o eminent_a in_o the_o vein_n or_o channel_n of_o faith_n in_o another_o christian_a there_o be_v the_o same_o life_n in_o the_o vein_n or_o channel_n of_o humiliation_n and_o self-denial_n and_o in_o another_o it_o run_v in_o the_o vein_n of_o prudence_n holy_a wisdom_n and_o activity_n so_o that_o you_o can_v say_v there_o be_v not_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n in_o such_o and_o such_o because_o you_o do_v see_v a_o eminency_n in_o some_o particular_n which_o it_o may_v be_v you_o fasten_v upon_o why_o though_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n be_v not_o eminent_a in_o that_o it_o run_v in_o another_o in_o such_o a_o vein_n as_o be_v as_o it_o be_v under_o ground_n as_o be_v not_o obvious_a to_o thy_o eye_n which_o thou_o see_v not_o nor_o take_v no_o notice_n of_o quest_n but_o you_o will_v say_v why_o be_v not_o every_o grace_n in_o its_o operation_n eminent_a in_o every_o saint_n and_o in_o every_o believer_n answ_n i_o answer_v first_o because_o the_o lord_n will_v maintain_v in_o this_o way_n a_o sweet_a communion_n with_o his_o saint_n the_o lord_n intend_v to_o maintain_v sweet_a communion_n with_o his_o saint_n he_o therefore_o give_v out_o to_o one_o one_o grace_n more_o eminent_a and_o to_o another_o another_z that_o so_o the_o eye_n may_v not_o say_v to_o the_o head_n i_o have_v no_o need_n of_o thou_o nor_o the_o hand_n to_o the_o foot_n say_v i_o have_v no_o need_n of_o thou_o so_o that_o every_o member_n shall_v have_v its_o proportion_n but_o if_o you_o look_v upon_o the_o best_a saint_n you_o will_v see_v how_o they_o come_v short_a of_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n how_o defective_a they_o be_v in_o this_o and_o that_o particular_a what_o need_v then_o have_v we_o to_o live_v upon_o impute_a righteousness_n and_o what_o need_n have_v we_o to_o keep_v in_o a_o continual_a dependence_n upon_o christ_n that_o so_o he_o may_v supply_v all_o our_o want_n out_o of_o his_o fullness_n 2._o second_o again_o the_o lord_n do_v withhold_v his_o hand_n in_o abundance_n of_o wisdom_n and_o goodness_n if_o he_o shall_v give_v too_o much_o he_o know_v what_o poor_a weak_a creature_n we_o be_v and_o what_o poor_a weak_a vessel_n we_o be_v and_o if_o he_o shall_v pour_v in_o too_o much_o he_o know_v we_o be_v not_o able_a to_o bear_v it_o if_o you_o pour_v new_a wine_n into_o old_a bottle_n the_o bottle_n will_v break_v and_o the_o lord_n consider_v that_o we_o be_v old_a bottle_n and_o his_o new_a wine_n will_v break_v our_o old_a bottle_n we_o be_v not_o able_a to_o contain_v much_o if_o the_o lord_n shall_v give_v out_o much_o of_o himself_o the_o vision_n of_o the_o lord_n will_v break_v these_o old_a bottle_n that_o we_o be_v not_o able_a to_o bear_v up_o christ_n tender_v his_o people_n in_o this_o that_o when_o they_o come_v to_o heaven_n he_o will_v fill_v they_o full_a then_o there_o be_v no_o fear_n of_o break_v their_o old_a bottle_n he_o will_v fill_v they_o to_o the_o brim_n and_o no_o fear_n of_o break_v but_o now_o there_o be_v fear_n of_o the_o best_a of_o saint_n paul_n have_v great_a rapture_n and_o be_v exalt_v above_o measure_n therefore_o it_o be_v to_o be_v mark_v he_o have_v a_o check_n but_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n and_o the_o strength_n of_o christ_n do_v not_o thus_o appear_v in_o eminency_n in_o every_o saint_n object_n but_o some_o poor_a soul_n will_v say_v whatsoever_o there_o be_v in_o other_o i_o will_v not_o judge_v other_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n may_v be_v in_o they_o and_o i_o be_o persuade_v the_o life_n of_o christ_n be_v in_o such_o and_o such_o i_o see_v the_o
out_o a_o spirit_n of_o burn_a and_o breath_n upon_o the_o same_o word_n with_o command_n that_o spark_n be_v blow_v up_o to_o a_o mighty_a flame_n so_o that_o the_o lord_n speak_v and_o when_o he_o speak_v his_o word_n be_v not_o in_o vain_a when_o he_o speak_v that_o he_o will_v have_v you_o to_o live_v do_v not_o you_o make_v objection_n against_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n do_v not_o say_v we_o be_v dead_a creature_n how_o shall_v we_o live_v consider_v what_o abraham_n do_v it_o be_v say_v he_o consider_v not_o his_o own_o body_n when_o it_o be_v dead_a neither_o the_o deadness_n of_o sarahs_n womb_n he_o do_v not_o look_v upon_o it_o in_o rom._n 4._o 19_o not_o be_v weak_a in_o faith_n it_o be_v say_v he_o consider_v not_o his_o own_o body_n now_o dead_a dead_z as_o to_o therefore_o he_o stagger_v not_o at_o the_o promise_n through_o unbelief_n but_o he_o be_v strong_a in_o faith_n give_v glory_n to_o god_n and_o so_o also_o you_o poor_a creature_n do_v not_o look_v so_o much_o upon_o your_o own_o deadness_n but_o know_v that_o god_n can_v out_o of_o very_a stone_n raise_v up_o child_n unto_o abraham_n he_o can_v quicken_v thou_o by_o the_o word_n of_o his_o mouth_n and_o the_o breath_n of_o his_o nostril_n though_o thou_o lie_v before_o he_o as_o adam_n do_v who_o be_v as_o a_o lump_n of_o clay_n liveless_a and_o useless_a but_o the_o lord_n make_v a_o the_o dust_n exceed_v frail_a be_v the_o body_n set_v forth_o by_o this_o expression_n now_o what_o shall_v the_o soul_n gain_v when_o death_n come_v it_o have_v a_o house_n not_o make_v with_o hand_n eternal_a in_o the_o heaven_n in_o 2_o cor._n 5._o 1._o for_o we_o know_v that_o if_o our_o earthly_a house_n of_o this_o tabernacle_n be_v dissolve_v we_o have_v a_o build_n of_o god_n a_o house_n of_o their_o company_n our_o saviour_n say_v in_o matth._n 8._o 11._o they_o shall_v sit_v down_o with_o abraham_n isaac_n and_o jacob_n in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n no_o worse_o company_n than_o abraham_n isaac_n and_o jacob_n and_o the_o spirit_n of_o just_a man_n make_v perfect_a there_o shall_v be_v no_o fail_n nor_o defect_n there_o shall_v be_v no_o want_n of_o love_n there_o shall_v kill_v he_o but_o when_o the_o soul_n have_v see_v death_n and_o have_v digest_v and_o see_v death_n at_o the_o worst_a that_o it_o can_v do_v and_o have_v live_v in_o a_o die_a condition_n death_n when_o it_o come_v be_v able_a to_o do_v no_o harm_n and_o therefore_o that_o be_v a_o six_o direction_n i_o desire_v the_o lord_n will_v teach_v we_o to_o converse_v with_o death_n and_o to_o die_v daily_o with_o the_o apostle_n direct_v 7._o seven_o i_o desire_v that_o you_o will_v labour_v that_o your_o heart_n may_v be_v thorough_o root_v and_o establish_v in_o the_o promise_n this_o will_v fortify_v you_o against_o the_o fear_n of_o death_n upon_o the_o promise_n and_o upon_o that_o freegrace_n and_o that_o infinite_a righteousness_n that_o be_v hold_v forth_o unto_o you_o in_o the_o how_o shall_v this_o be_v fortify_v against_o the_o fear_n of_o death_n this_o can_v bear_v they_o up_o in_o the_o time_n of_o death_n go_v to_o the_o lord_n desire_v he_o that_o he_o will_v realize_v thing_n to_o you_o and_o that_o he_o will_v make_v real_a and_o deep_a impression_n by_o his_o promise_n upon_o your_o soul_n that_o so_o you_o may_v be_v support_v and_o carry_v out_o in_o the_o communion_n and_o fellowship_n with_o himself_o and_o with_o his_o son_n jesus_n christ_n labour_v to_o walk_v with_o god_n as_o enoch_n do_v he_o walk_v with_o god_n and_o be_v translate_v walk_v with_o god_n in_o your_o generation_n and_o labour_n to_o enjoy_v communion_n with_o god_n in_o all_o ordinance_n be_v thorough_o acquaint_v with_o god_n with_o the_o go_n of_o god_n in_o your_o spirit_n with_o the_o counsel_n of_o god_n with_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n that_o the_o word_n may_v be_v your_o counsellor_n and_o your_o guide_n and_o your_o comforter_n seek_v acquaintance_n with_o god_n what_o be_v it_o that_o make_v man_n afraid_a to_o die_v it_o be_v because_o they_o be_v not_o acquaint_v with_o god_n a_o man_n fear_n in_o go_v into_o a_o strange_a place_n and_o
