mr._n s_n notion_n of_o it_o contain_v in_o it_o remission_n of_o sin_n and_o then_o argue_v that_o remission_n of_o sin_n be_v not_o justification_n in_o a_o proper_a sense_n and_o consequent_o such_o a_o difference_n between_o justification_n and_o pardon_n as_o have_v be_v intimate_v as_o there_o be_v to_o believe_v that_o its_o fit_a and_o necessary_a that_o the_o reason_n and_o equity_n of_o god_n proceed_n shall_v be_v clear_v before_o angel_n and_o man_n in_o pardon_v some_o and_o not_o other_o and_o if_o this_o be_v find_v agreeable_a to_o reason_n than_o you_o have_v a_o denote_v thing_n of_o the_o same_o nature_n by_o different_a phrase_n and_o form_n of_o speech_n i_o say_v the_o connexion_n between_o justification_n and_o remission_n be_v so_o close_a and_o inseparable_a as_o that_o the_o scripture_n sometime_o speak_v of_o they_o promiscuous_o scarce_o leave_v any_o difference_n to_o be_v discern_v between_o they_o which_o i_o conceive_v have_v lead_v so_o many_o to_o place_v justification_n in_o remission_n of_o sin_n as_o be_v of_o that_o judgement_n such_o be_v rom._n 4.6_o 7._o for_o one_o where_o the_o blessedness_n of_o the_o man_n to_o who_o failure_n by_o all_o which_o you_o will_v perceive_v i_o suppose_v that_o mr._n f._n hold_v that_o the_o law_n remain_v still_o in_o force_n require_v a_o perfect_a obedience_n unto_o justification_n and_o for_o want_v thereof_o and_o in_o case_n of_o every_o failure_n denounce_v wrath_n and_o that_o therefore_o unless_o the_o satisfaction_n of_o christ_n death_n and_o the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n to_o justify_v upon_o a_o imperfect_a obedience_n in_o which_o assertion_n of_o his_o there_o seem_v to_o i_o to_o be_v two_o grand_a mistake_n beside_o that_o of_o a_o formal_a imputation_n he_o speak_v of_o the_o first_o be_v in_o hold_v the_o law_n to_o be_v still_o in_o force_n not_o only_o in_o require_v obedience_n to_o itself_o by_o way_n of_o duty_n which_o be_v true_a but_o in_o require_v perfection_n of_o obedience_n as_o a_o condition_n of_o justification_n and_o in_o its_o rigour_n and_o severity_n in_o denounce_v wrath_n in_o case_n of_o every_o failure_n second_o in_o that_o he_o hold_v that_o though_o we_o shall_v answer_v all_o that_o the_o gospel_n require_v both_o in_o respect_n of_o a_o righteousness_n of_o inherent_a grace_n and_o of_o a_o personal_a sincere_a obedience_n yet_o we_o can_v not_o be_v justify_v without_o the_o formal_a imputation_n of_o a_o perfect_a legal_a righteousness_n as_o aforesaid_a and_o that_o these_o two_o be_v grand_a mistake_n indeed_o i_o shall_v endeavour_v to_o demonstrate_v to_o you_o in_o opposition_n to_o the_o first_o of_o they_o i_o conceive_v the_o scripture_n will_v warrant_v i_o to_o affirm_v that_o god_n by_o sound_v a_o new_a covenant_n a_o covenant_n of_o grace_n with_o the_o world_n in_o his_o son_n jesus_n christ_n and_o his_o mediatory_a undertake_n have_v rescind_v or_o supersede_v the_o rigour_n and_o severity_n of_o the_o original_a law_n in_o two_o thing_n first_o as_o a_o legal_a perfection_n of_o obedience_n be_v by_o it_o require_v as_o the_o condition_n of_o justification_n and_o life_n and_o second_o as_o it_o do_v denounce_v wrath_n and_o condemnation_n in_o case_n of_o every_o failure_n although_o the_o original_a law_n of_o nature_n the_o moral_a law_n be_v eternal_a effect_n rom._n 4.14_o gal._n 3.18_o for_o the_o old_a and_o new_a term_n of_o justification_n can_v consist_v together_o without_o the_o one_o evacuate_v the_o other_o if_o by_o grace_n say_v the_o apostle_n then_o be_v it_o no_o more_o of_o work_n otherwise_o grace_n will_v be_v no_o more_o grace_n but_o if_o of_o work_n than_o it_o be_v no_o more_o grace_n otherwise_o work_n be_v no_o more_o god_n that_o now_o we_o may_v be_v save_v by_o faith_n a_o favour_n which_o the_o law_n never_o afford_v for_o the_o law_n be_v not_o of_o faith_n but_o the_o man_n that_o do_v they_o shall_v live_v in_o they_o and_o when_o the_o apostle_n say_v this_o free_a gift_n come_v upon_o all_o man_n unto_o justification_n of_o life_n we_o be_v not_o to_o understand_v it_o i_o conceive_v as_o if_o unto_o justification_n of_o life_n actual_o if_o they_o do_v not_o wilful_o neglect_v and_o reject_v they_o and_o less_o than_o this_o i_o see_v not_o how_o the_o apostle_n word_n can_v signify_v if_o you_o consider_v the_o nature_n of_o the_o comparison_n he_o make_v between_o the_o effect_n of_o the_o first_o adam_n disobedience_n and_o the_o second_o adam_n obedience_n in_o reference_n unto_o all_o man_n without_o exception_n of_o any_o as_o by_o the_o disobedience_n of_o the_o former_a all_o man_n be_v bring_v under_o a_o utter_a incapacity_n of_o be_v justify_v and_o save_v so_o long_o as_o the_o original_a covenant_n in_o the_o rigour_n of_o its_o sanction_n remain_v in_o force_n so_o by_o the_o obedience_n of_o the_o latter_a all_o man_n be_v put_v into_o a_o capacity_n of_o be_v justify_v and_o save_v by_o virtue_n of_o new_a term_n in_o the_o new_a covenant_n which_o be_v obtain_v thereby_o and_o by_o which_o the_o old_a term_n be_v cancel_v or_o supersede_v these_o thing_n be_v so_o i_o leave_v you_o to_o judge_v whether_o there_o be_v any_o need_n of_o or_o any_o occasion_n for_o such_o a_o formal_a imputation_n of_o christ_n righteousness_n unto_o our_o justification_n to_o answer_v the_o law_n in_o its_o demand_n of_o perfect_a legal_a obedience_n as_o a_o condition_n of_o it_o and_o the_o accusation_n thereof_o for_o want_n of_o it_o as_o mr._n f._n contend_v for_o and_o mr._n s._n oppose_v for_o this_o demand_n and_o this_o accusation_n be_v take_v off_o so_o soon_o as_o the_o new_a covenant_n found_v by_o god_n in_o christ_n active_a and_o passive_a obedience_n take_v place_n and_o this_o benefit_n of_o have_v new_a term_n of_o life_n grant_v which_o accrue_v to_o the_o world_n by_o christ_n mediatory_a undertake_n do_v not_o at_o all_o depend_v upon_o our_o believe_v in_o christ_n but_o be_v absolute_o free_a and_o that_o wherein_o he_o have_v be_v aforehand_o with_o we_o and_o with_o all_o man_n which_o have_v be_v bear_v into_o the_o world_n since_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n do_v first_o commence_v and_o remain_v make_v good_a to_o they_o whether_o they_o believe_v it_o or_o no._n so_o that_o from_o thence_o forth_o no_o weight_n i_o will_v add_v yet_o something_o further_o to_o prove_v that_o this_o new_a covenant_n by_o which_o the_o term_n of_o the_o old_a be_v cancel_v be_v make_v and_o establish_v in_o christ_n not_o only_o with_o some_o part_n of_o mankind_n viz._n such_o as_o shall_v be_v save_v as_o some_o will_v restrain_v it_o who_o think_v it_o in_o the_o nature_n of_o it_o absolute_a and_o not_o conditonal_a no_o not_o in_o reference_n to_o particular_a person_n which_o yet_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v if_o make_v to_o all_o unless_o all_o be_v eventual_o to_o be_v save_v but_o it_o be_v make_v with_o all_o man_n universal_o and_o to_o this_o purpose_n i_o pray_v you_o consider_v the_o declaration_n of_o god_n grace_n and_o favour_n to_o all_o mankind_n in_o those_o word_n of_o he_o to_o abraham_n isaac_n and_o jacob_n mention_v no_o less_o than_o five_o time_n in_o the_o book_n of_o genesis_n viz._n in_o thou_o and_o in_o thy_o seed_n shall_v all_o family_n all_o nation_n of_o the_o earth_n be_v bless_v chap._n 12.3_o and_o 18.18_o and_o 22.18_o and_o 26.4_o and_o 28.14_o by_o which_o the_o unbelieve_a jew_n indeed_o understand_v that_o in_o time_n all_o nation_n shall_v become_v
