credit_v they_o but_o my_o lord_n what_o be_v here_o publish_v pretend_v no_o instruction_n but_o only_a homage_n while_o it_o teach_v many_o of_o the_o world_n it_o only_o describe_v your_o also_o your_o sleep_n my_o lord_n the_o subject_a here_o treat_v of_o be_v of_o that_o nature_n that_o it_o will_v seem_v but_o a_o chimaera_n and_o a_o bold_a paradox_n do_v it_o not_o in_o the_o very_a front_n carry_v a_o instance_n to_o exemplify_v it_o &_o so_o by_o the_o dedication_n convince_v the_o world_n that_o the_o discourse_n itself_o be_v not_o impracticable_a for_o such_o ever_o be_v and_o be_v and_o will_v be_v the_o temper_n of_o the_o generality_n of_o mankind_n that_o while_o i_o send_v man_n for_o pleasure_n to_o religion_n i_o can_v but_o expect_v that_o they_o will_v look_v upon_o i_o as_o only_o have_v a_o mind_n to_o be_v pleasant_a with_o they_o myself_o nor_o be_v man_n to_o be_v word_v into_o new_a temper_n or_o constitution_n and_o he_o that_o think_v that_o south_n a_o sermon_n preach_v at_o court_n etc._n etc._n pro-verb_n 3._o 17._o her_o way_n be_v way_n of_o pleasantness_n the_o text_n relate_v to_o something_o go_v before_o must_v carry_v our_o eye_n back_o to_o the_o 13_o verse_n where_o we_o shall_v find_v that_o the_o thing_n of_o which_o these_o word_n be_v affirm_v be_v wisdom_n a_o name_n by_o which_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n be_v here_o please_v to_o express_v to_o we_o religion_n and_o thereby_o to_o tell_v the_o world_n what_o before_o it_o be_v not_o aware_a of_o and_o perhaps_o will_v not_o yet_o believe_v that_o those_o two_o great_a thing_n that_o so_o engross_v the_o desire_n and_o design_n of_o both_o the_o noble_a and_o ignoble_a sort_n of_o mankind_n be_v to_o be_v find_v in_o religion_n namely_o wisdom_n and_o pleasure_n and_o that_o the_o former_a be_v the_o direct_a way_n to_o the_o latter_a as_o religion_n be_v to_o both_o that_o pleasure_n be_v man_n chief_a good_a because_o indeed_o it_o be_v the_o perception_n of_o good_a that_o be_v proper_o pleasure_n be_v a_o assertion_n most_o certain_o true_a though_o under_o the_o common_a acceptance_n of_o it_o not_o only_o false_a but_o odious_a for_o according_a to_o this_o pleasure_n and_o sensuality_n pass_v for_o term_n equivalent_a and_o therefore_o he_o that_o take_v it_o in_o this_o sense_n alter_v the_o subject_a of_o the_o discourse_n sensuality_n be_v indeed_o a_o part_n or_o rather_o one_o kind_n of_o pleasure_n such_o a_o one_o as_o it_o be_v for_o pleasure_n in_o general_n be_v the_o consequent_a apprehension_n of_o a_o suitable_a object_n suitable_o apply_v to_o a_o right_o dispose_v faculty_n and_o so_o must_v be_v conversant_a both_o about_o the_o faculty_n of_o the_o body_n and_o of_o the_o soul_n respective_o as_o be_v the_o result_n of_o the_o fruition_n belong_v to_o both_o now_o among_o those_o many_o argument_n use_v to_o press_v upon_o man_n the_o exercise_n of_o religion_n i_o know_v none_o that_o be_v like_a to_o be_v so_o successful_a as_o those_o that_o answer_n and_o remove_v the_o prejudices_fw-la that_o general_o possess_v and_o bar_v up_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n against_o it_o among_o which_o there_o be_v none_o so_o prevalent_a in_o truth_n though_o so_o little_o own_v in_o pretence_n as_o that_o it_o be_v a_o enemy_n to_o man_n pleasure_n that_o it_o bereave_v they_o of_o all_o the_o sweet_n of_o converse_n doom_v they_o to_o a_o absurd_a and_o perpetual_a melancholy_n design_v to_o make_v the_o world_n nothing_o else_o but_o a_o great_a monastery_n with_o which_o notion_n of_o religion_n nature_n and_o reason_n seem_v to_o have_v great_a cause_n to_o be_v dissatisfy_v for_o since_o god_n never_o create_v any_o faculty_n either_o in_o soul_n or_o body_n but_o withal_o prepare_v for_o it_o a_o suitable_a object_n and_o that_o in_o order_n to_o its_o gratification_n can_v we_o think_v that_o religion_n be_v design_v only_o for_o a_o contradiction_n to_o nature_n and_o with_o the_o great_a and_o most_o irrational_a tyranny_n in_o the_o world_n to_o tantalise_v and_o tie_v man_n up_o from_o enjoyment_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o all_o the_o opportunity_n of_o enjoyment_n to_o place_n man_n with_o the_o furious_a affection_n of_o hunger_n and_o thirst_n in_o the_o very_a bottom_n of_o plenty_n and_o then_o to_o tell_v they_o that_o the_o envy_n of_o providence_n have_v seal_v up_o every_o thing_n that_o be_v suitable_a under_o the_o character_n of_o unlawful_a for_o certain_o first_o to_o frame_v appetite_n fit_a to_o receive_v pleasure_n and_o then_o to_o interdict_v they_o with_o a_o touch_v not_o taste_v not_o can_v be_v nothing_o else_o then_o only_o to_o give_v they_o occasion_n to_o devour_v and_o prey_n upon_o themselves_o and_o so_o to_o keep_v man_n under_o the_o perpetual_a torment_n of_o a_o unsatisfy_a desire_n a_o thing_n huge_o contrary_a to_o the_o natural_a felicity_n of_o the_o creature_n and_o consequent_o to_o the_o wisdom_n and_o goodness_n of_o the_o great_a creator_n he_o therefore_o that_o will_v persuade_v man_n to_o religion_n both_o with_o art_n and_o efficacy_n must_v found_v the_o persuasion_n of_o it_o upon_o this_o that_o it_o interfere_n not_o with_o any_o rational_a pleasure_n that_o it_o bid_v no_o body_n quit_v the_o enjoiment_n of_o any_o one_o thing_n that_o his_o reason_n can_v prove_v to_o he_o aught_o to_o be_v enjoy_v it_o be_v confess_v when_o through_o the_o cross_a circumstance_n of_o a_o man_n temper_n or_o condition_n the_o enjoyment_n of_o a_o pleasure_n will_v certain_o expose_v he_o to_o a_o great_a inconvenience_n than_o religion_n bid_v he_o quit_v it_o that_o be_v it_o bid_v he_o prefer_v the_o endurance_n of_o a_o lesser_a evil_n before_o a_o great_a and_o nature_n itself_o do_v no_o less_o religion_n therefore_o intrenche_n upon_o none_o of_o our_o privilege_n invade_v none_o of_o our_o pleasure_n it_o may_v indeed_o sometime_o command_v we_o to_o change_v but_o never_o total_o to_o abjure_v they_o but_o it_o be_v easy_o foresee_v that_o this_o discourse_n will_v in_o the_o very_a beginning_n of_o it_o be_v encounter_v by_o a_o argument_n
