different_a persuasion_n and_o way_n that_o be_v among_o we_o we_o be_v a_o people_n that_o general_o do_v profess_v the_o christian_a religion_n which_o have_v be_v of_o long_a time_n transmit_v down_o to_o we_o from_o our_o ancestor_n wherein_o we_o be_v deep_o engage_v by_o education_n the_o law_n of_o the_o land_n and_o manifold_a obligation_n but_o it_o be_v much_o to_o be_v desire_v that_o the_o common_a sort_n of_o christian_n be_v better_o instruct_v in_o the_o ground_n and_o reason_n of_o the_o entertainment_n of_o this_o religion_n rather_o than_o of_o the_o other_o three_o before_o mention_v heathenism_n mahometanism_n and_o judaisme_n and_o that_o they_o may_v gain_v a_o clear_a and_o distinct_a knowledge_n of_o the_o great_a and_o fundamental_a article_n thereof_o and_o be_v thorough_o ground_v in_o the_o certainty_n and_o excellency_n of_o it_o a_o thing_n which_o be_v much_o want_v in_o the_o vulgar_a sort_n through_o their_o too_o great_a negligence_n and_o carelessness_n about_o thing_n spiritual_a but_o of_o exceed_v dangerous_a consequence_n to_o their_o soul_n as_o expose_v they_o to_o profaneness_n and_o error_n if_o not_o to_o total_a apostasy_n and_o therefore_o this_o duty_n though_o before_o hint_v deserve_v to_o be_v reinforce_v with_o the_o strong_a persuasion_n but_o although_o we_o all_o be_v christian_n in_o profession_n we_o be_v sad_o crumble_v into_o such_o diversity_n of_o sect_n and_o persuasion_n occasion_v much_o through_o the_o licentiousness_n of_o war_n &_o relaxation_n of_o government_n among_o we_o of_o which_o occasion_n satan_n and_o our_o corrupt_a nature_n have_v make_v too_o great_a improvement_n that_o be_v it_o most_o difficult_a for_o weak_a and_o ignorant_a person_n to_o find_v out_o the_o right_n and_o safe_a way_n among_o they_o and_o to_o join_v themselves_o unto_o this_o temptation_n have_v lead_v very_o many_o into_o error_n byway_n &_o pernicious_a and_o other_o into_o atheism_n we_o shall_v therefore_o attempt_v to_o give_v some_o direction_n what_o course_n to_o steer_v herein_o what_o opinion_n and_o sect_n to_o shun_v and_o avoid_v and_o what_o people_n and_o principales_fw-la we_o shall_v close_v withal_o for_o it_o will_v great_o conduce_v to_o the_o peace_n and_o welfare_n of_o the_o church_n and_o to_o the_o safety_n of_o man_n soul_n to_o be_v due_o inform_v what_o christian_n or_o societye_n of_o christian_n they_o be_v with_o who_o communion_n may_v be_v hold_v and_o how_o far_o as_o also_o who_o they_o be_v that_o be_v utter_o to_o be_v avoid_v it_o be_v usual_a with_o the_o vulgar_a sort_n of_o christian_n who_o sometime_o abound_v in_o zeal_n but_o be_v much_o want_v in_o knowledge_n to_o close_o with_o the_o most_o pernicious_a principales_fw-la and_o way_n where_o any_o strong_a temptation_n insinnate_a themselves_o then_o with_o those_o that_o be_v far_o more_o sound_a and_o orthodox_n if_o they_o have_v take_v up_o a_o prejudice_n against_o they_o and_o so_o have_v the_o faith_n of_o christ_n with_o respect_n of_o person_n we_o shall_v therefore_o take_v a_o survey_n of_o the_o different_a persuasion_n &_o way_n among_o we_o worship_n own_a viz._n that_o god_n only_o be_v to_o be_v worship_v &_o no_o creature_n saint_n or_o angel_n that_o he_o be_v to_o be_v worship_v only_o in_o and_o through_o christ_n as_o our_o only_a mediator_n and_o advocate_n that_o he_o be_v to_o be_v worship_v in_o spirit_n &_o truth_n &_o to_o be_v sanctify_v of_o they_o that_o come_v near_o unto_o he_o 3_o as_o for_o fundamental_a duty_n and_o point_n of_o practice_n here_o be_v a_o profession_n of_o faith_n in_o jesus_n christ_n alone_o for_o salvation_n of_o repentance_n from_o dead_a work_n and_o love_n to_o jesus_n christ_n and_o both_o safe_a and_o profitable_a we_o lay_v it_o down_o in_o three_o particular_n 1._o to_o beware_v of_o a_o total_a withdraw_v from_o the_o public_a assembly_n in_o the_o church_n of_o england_n and_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n therein_o whilst_o the_o fundamental_o of_o faith_n and_o essential_o of_o worship_n be_v therein_o maintain_v because_o you_o apprehend_v therein_o some_o corruption_n defect_n addition_n or_o error_n which_o be_v circumstantial_a this_o advice_n though_o it_o may_v be_v urge_v with_o manifold_a argument_n yet_o the_o brevity_n i_o intend_v in_o this_o monument_n of_o idolatry_n remain_v among_o they_o and_o the_o people_n many_o of_o they_o defile_v therewith_o very_o great_a corruption_n of_o manner_n not_o only_o in_o the_o people_n but_o in_o the_o priest_n as_o in_o eli_n son_n etc._n etc._n yet_o whilst_o the_o true_a worship_n of_o god_n be_v continue_v among_o they_o there_o be_v neither_o precept_n or_o practice_n to_o be_v find_v of_o total_a withdraw_n therefrom_o indeed_o the_o godly_a levite_n &_o people_n do_v withdraw_v from_o the_o idolatrous_a worship_n of_o jereboam_n calf_n leave_v their_o dwelling_n and_o go_v to_o jerusalem_n 2_o chro._n 11.14_o 16._o but_o no_o mention_n be_v make_v of_o withdraw_a from_o the_o true_a worship_n of_o god_n for_o such_o cause_n as_o be_v before_o name_v about_o the_o time_n of_o our_o saviour_n christ_n and_o his_o apostle_n the_o state_n of_o that_o church_n be_v great_o corrupt_v by_o many_o degree_n more_o than_o any_o sober_a person_n can_v judge_v the_o present_a church_n in_o this_o nation_n now_o to_o be_v the_o interpreter_n of_o the_o law_n have_v take_v away_o the_o key_n of_o knowledge_n and_o that_o little_a knowledge_n that_o remain_v be_v miserable_o corrupt_v not_o only_o with_o the_o leaven_n of_o the_o pharisee_n but_o with_o the_o damnable_a heresy_n of_o the_o sadducee_n the_o worship_n of_o god_n much_o profane_v and_o the_o temple_n pollute_v and_o make_v a_o den_n of_o thief_n a_o multitude_n of_o superstitious_a ceremony_n introduce_v that_o be_v a_o burden_n too_o heavy_a to_o bear_v the_o power_n of_o godliness_n subvert_v godly_a withdraw_v from_o the_o communion_n of_o that_o church_n for_o the_o same_o we_o read_v that_o simeon_n anna_n and_o other_o continue_v in_o the_o temple_n worship_v god_n daily_o holy_a zachary_n forsake_v not_o his_o priestly_a office_n but_o minister_v in_o his_o course_n in_o the_o temple_n and_o christ_n himself_o be_v circumcise_v and_o present_v to_o the_o lord_n in_o the_o temple_n with_o the_o accustom_a sacrifice_n offer_v for_o he_o according_a to_o the_o law_n of_o moses_n he_o keep_v the_o passeover_n and_o other_o feast_n of_o that_o church_n be_v frequent_o in_o the_o temple_n and_o in_o the_o synagogue_n with_o his_o disciple_n allow_v of_o the_o hear_n of_o those_o that_o sit_v in_o moses_n chair_n only_o give_v caution_n against_o their_o error_n and_o communion_n of_o that_o church_n nor_o his_o disciple_n after_o he_o until_o the_o jew_n do_v contradict_v and_o blaspheme_v the_o truth_n obstinate_o refuse_v to_o own_o the_o lord_n jesus_n for_o the_o christ_n and_o persecute_v to_o death_n the_o professor_n of_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n in_o the_o church_n of_o corinth_n galatia_n etc._n etc._n we_o read_v of_o great_a and_o dangerous_a error_n in_o faith_n grievous_a pollution_n in_o worship_n &_o sad_a miscarriage_n in_o manner_n yet_o concern_v withdraw_v from_o these_o church_n we_o find_v not_o a_o word_n but_o many_o reprehension_n of_o their_o schism_n and_o division_n in_o the_o church_n of_o asia_n there_o be_v several_a thing_n they_o be_v blame_v for_o as_o well_o as_o some_o thing_n commend_v in_o they_o but_o no_o hint_n of_o separation_n from_o
those_o church_n for_o those_o evil_n find_v in_o they_o so_o that_o the_o scripture_n give_v no_o countenance_n to_o total_a withdraw_n from_o such_o church_n where_o many_o corruption_n be_v whilst_o the_o essential_o of_o religion_n be_v preserve_v some_o scripture_n indeed_o be_v very_o impertinent_o allege_v for_o this_o practice_n which_o may_v be_v clear_v from_o the_o undeceive_n of_o the_o weak_a in_o a_o few_o word_n such_o as_o 2_o cor._n 6_o 14_o 15_o 16_o 17._o which_o speak_v of_o separation_n from_o infidel_n and_o idolater_n in_o their_o idolatry_n and_o ungodly_a fellowship_n not_o of_o withdraw_v from_o christian_a assembly_n in_o the_o true_a worship_n of_o god_n so_o also_o 1_o cor._n 5.11_o and_o 2_o thess_n 3.6_o 14._o which_o scripture_n show_v it_o a_o as_o for_o that_o scripture_n revel_v 18.3_o come_v out_o of_o babylon_n etc._n etc._n it_o may_v warrant_v a_o withdraw_n from_o the_o idolatrous_a worship_n of_o rome_n and_o the_o abomination_n of_o popery_n from_o which_o we_o before_o show_v it_o be_v the_o duty_n of_o every_o good_a christian_a that_o love_v his_o salvation_n to_o depart_v but_o it_o be_v gross_o abuse_v when_o it_o be_v make_v to_o plead_v for_o separation_n from_o any_o of_o the_o reform_a church_n where_o through_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n the_o fundamental_o of_o faith_n and_o essential_o of_o worship_n be_v maintain_v so_o that_o we_o see_v the_o scripture_n will_v not_o warrant_v such_o separation_n 2._o or_o if_o you_o will_v reverence_n the_o general_a suffrage_n of_o the_o christian_a church_n and_o of_o the_o most_o eminent_a saint_n and_o martyr_n live_v therein_o ever_o since_o christ_n time_n to_o we_o which_o sure_o however_o some_o slight_a yet_o there_o be_v no_o small_a weight_n in_o it_o ball_n many_o other_o and_o witness_v their_o practice_n former_o and_o at_o this_o day_n 3._o independent_o see_v apol_n narration_n of_o the_o five_o dissent_v brethren_n page_n 5.6_o who_o full_o testify_v against_o the_o practice_n of_o the_o brownist_n or_o rigid_a separatist_n who_o fatal_a miscarriage_n and_o shipwreck_n they_o call_v landmark_n to_o forewarn_v of_o those_o rock_n and_o this_o land_n in_o peace_n that_o they_o will_v hold_v a_o communion_n with_o they_o as_o the_o church_n of_o christ_n and_o yet_o they_o add_v further_o beside_o this_o profession_n as_o a_o real_a testimony_n some_o of_o they_o after_o they_o be_v actual_o in_o the_o congregational_a way_n do_v baptise_v their_o child_n in_o the_o parishional_a congregation_n and_o occasional_o admit_v to_o
