relation_n to_o the_o affair_n of_o scotland_n may_v it_o please_v your_o highness_n the_o rise_n of_o our_o animosity_n and_o the_o reason_n why_o they_o be_v warm_a in_o scotland_n than_o in_o england_n be_v that_o england_n reform_v by_o the_o royal_a authority_n and_o therefore_o the_o government_n of_o their_o church_n be_v suit_v to_o the_o monarchy_n but_o scotland_n reform_v by_o fit_v to_o unite_v the_o two_o kingdom_n and_o though_o it_o be_v full_o agree_v to_o for_o many_o year_n yet_o some_o factious_a and_o ambitious_a nobleman_n be_v desirous_a to_o advance_v enthusiastic_a preacher_n be_v instigate_v by_o they_o to_o join_v with_o the_o puritanical_a party_n and_o at_o length_n to_o rise_v in_o a_o most_o unjustifiable_a war_n against_o their_o lawful_a sovereign_n during_o which_o the_o presbyterian_o enter_v in_o a_o covenant_n wherein_o they_o oblige_v themselves_o by_o solemn_a oath_n to_o extirpate_v prelacy_n and_o bring_v all_o opposer_n of_o their_o covenant_n to_o condign_a punishment_n and_o thereafter_o into_o a_o league_n with_o england_n wherein_o they_o oblige_v themselves_o to_o reform_v england_n after_o the_o model_n of_o the_o best_a reform_a church_n abroad_o for_o their_o own_o end_n leave_v the_o rule_n thus_o general_a all_o these_o oath_n and_o league_n be_v enter_v into_o by_o subject_n without_o and_o against_o yea_o and_o in_o despite_n of_o the_o royal_a authority_n and_o the_o evident_a design_n of_o they_o be_v to_o overturn_v the_o fundamental_a constitution_n of_o the_o church_n and_o state_n in_o the_o two_o kingdom_n be_v therefore_o most_o just_o condemn_v as_o treason_n by_o the_o parliament_n in_o both_o nation_n notwithstanding_o whereof_o the_o covenanter_n in_o prosecution_n of_o the_o black_a design_n of_o these_o oath_n raise_v first_o the_o rabble_n and_o afterward_o strong_a army_n against_o that_o most_o pious_a and_o protestant_n king_n charles_n i._n who_o out_o of_o a_o chief_o mean_a and_o factious_a person_n who_o head_v the_o rabble_n rob_v more_o from_o these_o loyal_a family_n in_o one_o month_n without_o any_o pretext_n of_o law_n than_o have_v be_v exact_v from_o they_o since_o the_o king_n restauration_n in_o prosecution_n of_o it_o beside_o the_o many_o other_o barbarity_n which_o they_o commit_v under_o pretext_n of_o religion_n as_o the_o poyniard_v reformation_n themselves_o be_v all_o the_o while_n after_o support_v by_o these_o very_a regicide_n against_o the_o royalist_n who_o they_o call_v malignant_n till_o god_n restore_v king_n charles_n ii_o and_o then_o offer_v of_o peace_n and_o pardon_n be_v make_v to_o these_o presbyterian_o provide_v they_o will_v but_o disow_v the_o covenant_n and_o their_o rebellious_a principle_n but_o they_o refuse_v all_o offer_n episcopacy_n be_v restore_v chief_o for_o the_o monarchy_n sake_n the_o faction_n be_v enrage_v at_o this_o proceed_v with_o all_o fire_n and_o fury_n to_o preach_v up_o rebellion_n in_o their_o conventicle_n the_o parliament_n in_o the_o mean_a time_n just_o displease_v at_o this_o insolence_n and_o contempt_n of_o authority_n and_o desirous_a to_o secure_v the_o peace_n and_o the_o people_n from_o the_o poison_n of_o rebellious_a and_o false_a doctrine_n appoint_v all_o to_o come_v to_o church_n whereupon_o they_o break_v forth_o in_o open_a rebellion_n and_o some_o of_o their_o ring_n leader_n be_v take_v in_o the_o guilt_n and_o not_o disow_v nor_o promise_v to_o help_v these_o fault_n be_v punish_v in_o order_n to_o terrify_v other_o and_o this_o be_v all_o the_o severity_n complain_v of_o by_o this_o your_o highness_n may_v see_v 1._o that_o you_o be_v come_v to_o support_v our_o law_n you_o be_v in_o honour_n bind_v to_o support_v episcopacy_n which_o be_v confirm_v by_o twenty_o seven_o parliament_n 2._o that_o episcopacy_n be_v necessary_a for_o support_v of_o the_o monarchy_n and_o that_o the_o scottish_a presbytery_n be_v not_o oppose_v by_o we_o as_o a_o ecclesiastical_a government_n but_o as_o have_v incorporate_v into_o it_o many_o horrid_a principle_n inconsistent_a with_o humane_a society_n in_o which_o the_o monarchy_n be_v more_o concern_v than_o we_o 3._o that_o what_o these_o who_o be_v in_o the_o government_n do_v be_v conform_v to_o law_n and_o that_o these_o law_n be_v make_v for_o preservation_n of_o the_o protestant_a religion_n monarchy_n humane_a society_n and_o self-defence_n and_o that_o they_o value_v their_o church-government_n more_o than_o the_o protestant_a religion_n be_v clear_a by_o their_o late_a compliance_n with_o the_o papist_n upon_o get_v a_o indulgence_n whereas_o the_o church_n of_o england_n and_o we_o hazard_v all_o rather_o than_o comply_v they_o magnify_v the_o dispense_n power_n and_o we_o oppose_v it_o 4._o this_o appear_v more_o clear_o by_o their_o present_a principle_n whereby_o many_o as_o we_o be_v inform_v own_o that_o subject_n have_v a_o right_a to_o force_v their_o king_n to_o do_v they_o justice_n and_o that_o they_o be_v his_o judge_n and_o may_v dethrone_v he_o that_o the_o rebellion_n against_o king_n charles_n the_o first_o and_o second_o and_o in_o favour_n of_o the_o duke_n of_o monmouth_n be_v just_a and_o that_o the_o monarchy_n be_v return_v by_o forfeiture_n to_o the_o people_n there_o remain_v no_o prerogative_n with_o future_a king_n who_o be_v to_o have_v no_o more_o power_n than_o the_o people_n will_v give_v they_o and_o because_o we_o love_v the_o monarchy_n we_o be_v decry_v as_o slave_n whereas_o it_o have_v be_v easy_a for_o we_o to_o have_v connive_v at_o their_o insolence_n and_o to_o become_v republican_n with_o they_o 5._o to_o evidence_n that_o they_o resolve_v not_o as_o yet_o to_o be_v quiet_a they_o in_o place_n of_o accommodate_v difference_n at_o this_o time_n wherein_o all_o protestant_n shall_v show_v what_o happy_a change_n they_o hope_v for_o from_o your_o highness_n come_v to_o restore_v our_o religion_n and_o law_n do_v threaten_v magistrate_n out_o of_o their_o government_n and_o minister_n from_o their_o charge_n force_v they_o to_o swear_v after_o many_o indignity_n that_o they_o shall_v never_o return_v to_o their_o employment_n do_v thereby_o all_o that_o in_o they_o lie_v to_o disgrace_v your_o highness_n design_n and_o to_o
persuade_v the_o nation_n that_o they_o only_o must_v give_v measure_n and_o that_o none_o can_v live_v peaceable_o there_o without_o comply_v with_o all_o their_o inclination_n 6._o that_o their_o number_n be_v not_o near_o so_o great_a as_o we_o appear_v convince_o from_o this_o that_o twenty_o seven_o parliament_n have_v run_v unanimous_o against_o they_o under_o four_o king_n and_o that_o they_o have_v still_o be_v easy_o overcome_v in_o all_o their_o rebellion_n and_o though_o now_o they_o appear_v numerous_a here_o yet_o that_o proceed_v from_o their_o be_v all_o here_o upon_o design_n to_o make_v themselves_o appear_v considerable_a that_o they_o may_v be_v think_v necessary_a and_o to_o the_o end_n that_o some_o of_o they_o may_v recover_v what_o be_v just_o take_v from_o they_o and_o may_v get_v employment_n by_o procure_v the_o possessor_n to_o be_v incapacitate_v whereas_o other_o trust_v to_o the_o law_n the_o interest_n of_o the_o monarchy_n and_o your_o highness_n just_a sense_n of_o thing_n think_v no_o such_o appearance_n necessary_a till_o the_o convention_n these_o presbyterian_o have_v also_o instigate_v some_o tumult_n to_o fright_v honest_a man_n who_o will_v not_o rise_v in_o arm_n without_o authority_n yet_o if_o there_o be_v not_o force_n send_v down_o under_o well-principled_n officer_n they_o will_v be_v force_v again_o to_o beg_v leave_n to_o raise_v new_a force_n in_o self-defence_n without_o which_o we_o can_v neither_o live_v at_o home_n nor_o go_v to_o serve_v your_o highness_n in_o the_o convention_n 7._o many_o of_o they_o pretend_v that_o their_o presbytery_n be_v jure_fw-la divino_fw-la and_o that_o they_o be_v bind_v to_o it_o by_o oath_n though_o declare_v treason_n do_v own_o that_o they_o can_v submit_v to_o no_o law_n inconsistent_a with_o presbytery_n whereas_o we_o be_v ready_a to_o comply_v with_o whatever_o your_o highness_n and_o a_o parliament_n shall_v find_v convenient_a for_o the_o monarchy_n and_o the_o good_a of_o the_o kingdom_n be_v grieve_v at_o those_o animosity_n in_o which_o they_o delight_v and_o to_o demonstrate_v our_o innocence_n and_o our_o readiness_n to_o accommodate_v all_o matter_n just_o we_o desire_v to_o be_v hear_v before_o your_o highness_n or_o any_o you_o shall_v name_v 8._o we_o do_v in_o the_o next_o place_n offer_v to_o your_o highness_n consideration_n whether_o in_o this_o age_n wherein_o episcopacy_n be_v acknowledge_v to_o have_v be_v the_o best_a bulwark_n against_o popery_n the_o english_a who_o so_o just_o love_v and_o reverence_n episcopacy_n will_v unite_v with_o scotland_n if_o subject_v to_o presbytery_n especial_o since_o the_o presbyterian_o who_o general_o own_o the_o covenant_n be_v swear_v to_o extirpate_v episcopacy_n have_v violent_o and_o effectual_o concur_v in_o the_o last_o age_n to_o throw_v it_o out_o of_o both_o nation_n which_o oath_n will_v certain_o bind_v they_o to_o overthrow_v episcopacy_n in_o england_n more_o industrious_o when_o england_n by_o the_o union_n become_v a_o part_n of_o their_o native_a country_n we_o design_v not_o by_o this_o to_o load_v all_o of_o that_o persuasion_n among_o who_o we_o confess_v many_o be_v so_o moderate_a as_o to_o deserve_v that_o for_o their_o sake_n we_o shall_v incline_v hearty_o to_o such_o a_o indulgence_n as_o may_v satisfy_v sober_a dissenter_n nor_o will_v we_o have_v trouble_v your_o highness_n with_o this_o account_n if_o we_o have_v not_o be_v assure_v that_o there_o be_v a_o address_n prepare_v crave_v a_o total_a extinction_n of_o episcopacy_n as_o contrary_a to_o the_o divine_a right_n of_o presbytery_n which_o if_o it_o be_v acknowledge_v they_o can_v be_v subject_a to_o no_o law_n and_o the_o covenant_n though_o illegal_a and_o irreligious_a must_v be_v the_o rule_n which_o if_o yield_v no_o sober_a man_n can_v live_v in_o security_n and_o though_o some_o thing_n may_v now_o be_v reform_v in_o that_o address_n by_o advice_n from_o london_n yet_o the_o first_o draught_n show_v their_o inclination_n and_o even_o the_o extinction_n of_o episcopacy_n which_o will_v certain_o be_v crave_v they_o be_v swear_v to_o it_o in_o their_o covenant_n oblige_v we_o to_o offer_v this_o in_o defence_n of_o our_o law_n and_o to_o prevent_v the_o inconvenience_n and_o insolence_n which_o will_v ensue_v on_o so_o great_a a_o alteration_n last_o we_o humble_o entreat_v your_o highness_n to_o consider_v that_o in_o the_o church_n as_o it_o be_v now_o establish_v by_o law_n under_o episcopacy_n among_o we_o we_o have_v no_o ceremony_n at_o all_o no_o not_o so_o much_o as_o any_o form_n of_o prayer_n no_o music_n but_o sing_v in_o the_o church_n the_o doctrine_n and_o discipline_n be_v the_o same_o both_o in_o the_o church_n and_o conventicle_n and_o in_o a_o word_n not_o one_o ace_n of_o difference_n between_o the_o two_o but_o that_o in_o the_o present_a church_n instead_o of_o their_o moderator_n who_o themselves_o have_v sometime_o confess_v may_v be_v constant_a we_o have_v bishop_n who_o the_o king_n be_v please_v to_o make_v lord_n allow_v the_o presbyter_n a_o free_a vote_n in_o their_o election_n and_o even_o the_o bishop_n govern_v only_o by_o presbytery_n and_o synod_n as_o the_o world_n shall_v have_v a_o more_o particular_a and_o full_a account_n of_o hereafter_o and_o now_o after_o this_o we_o leave_v your_o highness_n and_o the_o world_n to_o judge_v what_o just_a ground_n they_o have_v for_o their_o separation_n from_o our_o church_n communion_n or_o if_o the_o difference_n betwixt_o we_o and_o the_o presbyterian_o for_o such_o they_o all_o own_v themselves_o be_v indeed_o such_o as_o may_v justify_v their_o constant_a clamour_n present_a noise_n and_o tumult_n their_o uncharitable_a censure_n and_o cruel_a persecution_n of_o their_o reform_a brethren_n whether_o the_o difference_n betwixt_o we_o be_v true_o such_o as_o may_v warrant_v their_o divide_v the_o church_n disturb_v the_o state_n and_o weaken_v the_o reformation_n which_o your_o highness_n have_v so_o generous_o and_o pious_o engage_v to_o protect_v and_o which_o we_o shall_v always_o hearty_o pray_v god_n to_o prosper_v you_o in_o the_o reader_n be_v desire_v to_o observe_v first_o that_o the_o figure_n place_v in_o the_o address_n lead_v to_o the_o annotation_n on_o that_o part_n of_o it_o which_o be_v mark_v with_o the_o same_o figure_n second_o that_o the_o public_a resolutioner_n and_o remonstrator_n be_v two_o conten●ding_a party_n among_o the_o scots_a be_v call_v public_a resolutioner_n who_o adhere_v to_o the_o public_a resolve_n of_o the_o state_n in_o favour_n of_o the_o king_n and_o they_o call_v remonstrator_n who_o dissent_v from_o these_o proceed_n of_o the_o public_a by_o their_o open_a remonstrance_n against_o they_o the_o presbyterian_a address_n from_o scotland_n to_o the_o prince_n of_o orange_n may_v it_o please_v your_o royal_a highness_n when_o we_o 1_o begin_v to_o think_v how_o the_o lord_n have_v bless_v your_o illustrious_a progenitor_n in_o be_v the_o happy_a instrument_n of_o so_o much_o good_a to_o his_o church_n and_o in_o stand_v in_o the_o gap_n and_o appear_v for_o the_o people_n of_o god_n his_o truth_n and_o interest_n in_o time_n of_o the_o great_a extremity_n when_o matter_n seem_v desperate_a in_o the_o eye_n of_o all_o who_o can_v look_v no_o high_o than_o the_o hand_n of_o second_o cause_n and_o how_o the_o lord_n crown_v their_o resolute_a endeavour_n with_o the_o success_n of_o plant_v 2_o a_o beautiful_a church_n in_o the_o unite_a province_n and_o deliver_v the_o people_n of_o god_n there_o from_o the_o fury_n of_o the_o spanish_a persecution_n and_o that_o your_o royal_a highness_n have_v succeed_v these_o worthy_n of_o the_o lord_n as_o in_o their_o estate_n and_o dignity_n so_o in_o their_o zeal_n for_o the_o gospel_n of_o christ_n sympathy_n withi_o his_o 3_o suffer_a people_n and_o magnaninous_a resolution_n in_o appear_v in_o such_o a_o astonish_a way_n for_o the_o 4_o kingdom_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n and_o for_o his_o faithful_a servant_n while_o lie_v in_o the_o mouth_n of_o the_o lion_n while_o refuge_n fail_v and_o we_o look_v on_o the_o right_n and_o left_a hand_n 5_o and_o no_o man_n be_v find_v till_o the_o lord_n raise_v up_o your_o highness_n and_o put_v it_o in_o your_o heart_n to_o lay_v down_o life_n and_o all_o thing_n of_o a_o 6_o corporal_a interest_n at_o the_o stake_n while_o you_o do_v act_n for_o his_o glory_n and_o lamentable_o
