such_o a_o mixture_n of_o blasphemy_n and_o rebellion_n when_o man_n shall_v commit_v such_o horrid_a and_o emphatical_a villainy_n and_o then_o shall_v with_o so_o steel_a a_o confidence_n warrant_v this_o string_n he_o be_v again_o rub_v to_o as_o little_a purpose_n in_o this_o chapter_n neither_o be_v he_o singular_a in_o this_o conceit_n and_o confidence_n there_o be_v other_o that_o have_v as_o well_o as_o himself_o sound_v their_o alarm_n from_o the_o pulpit_n against_o antichristian_a idolatry_n and_o oppression_n and_o have_v chafe_v popular_a zeal_n and_o rage_n to_o fight_v for_o the_o van_n and_o the_o sense_n and_o substance_n of_o all_o the_o numberless_a paper_n of_o lord_n and_o commons_o amount_n to_o no_o more_o than_o this_o that_o they_o be_v resolve_v to_o expose_v their_o life_n and_o fortune_n for_o the_o defence_n and_o maintenance_n of_o the_o true_a religion_n his_o majesty_n person_n and_o honour_n the_o power_n and_o privilege_n of_o parliament_n and_o the_o just_a right_n and_o liberty_n of_o the_o subject_a all_o these_o pretence_n come_v in_o of_o course_n but_o still_o religion_n be_v the_o first_o and_o dear_a grievance_n and_o its_o preservation_n more_o tender_a to_o they_o than_o their_o life_n and_o liberty_n as_o in_o the_o observation_n upon_o the_o lord_n digbys_n letter_n the_o lord_n and_o commons_o declare_v that_o they_o have_v never_o do_v any_o thing_n against_o the_o personal_a honour_n of_o the_o queen_n only_o we_o have_v desire_v to_o be_v secure_v from_o such_o plot_n and_o mischievous_a design_n that_o only_o of_o civil_a liberty_n and_o peace_n of_o the_o kingdom_n but_o of_o that_o we_o hold_v much_o dear_a than_o these_o yea_o than_o the_o very_o be_v of_o this_o nation_n that_o be_v our_o religion_n whereupon_o depend_v the_o honour_n of_o almighty_a god_n and_o the_o salvation_n of_o our_o soul_n and_o this_o be_v their_o perpetual_a answer_n to_o all_o his_o majesty_n proposition_n that_o his_o counsel_n be_v overrule_v by_o a_o malignant_a party_n of_o papist_n and_o other_o ill-affected_a person_n that_o carry_v on_o their_o own_o wicked_a design_n of_o root_a up_o the_o protestant_a religion_n to_o plant_v popery_n and_o superstition_n innumerable_a be_v the_o proof_n to_o this_o purpose_n but_o we_o will_v content_v ourselves_o because_o it_o will_v be_v fashion_n sake_n the_o king_n person_n this_o business_n of_o scotland_n be_v a_o affair_n not_o unworthy_a the_o mention_v not_o only_o because_o it_o be_v well_o know_v what_o invitation_n they_o have_v from_o their_o party_n to_o enter_v england_n but_o also_o because_o the_o parliament_n here_o own_v their_o cause_n take_v it_o unkind_o of_o the_o king_n for_o call_v they_o rebel_n vote_v they_o a_o great_a supply_n under_o the_o name_n of_o a_o friendly_a assistance_n and_o call_v they_o their_o dear_a brethren_n of_o scotland_n and_o withal_o do_v particular_o own_o the_o scotch_a tumult_n as_o raise_v upon_o a_o religious_a account_n 494._o this_o we_o have_v themselves_o confess_v in_o a_o declaration_n to_o satisfy_v the_o world_n of_o the_o justice_n of_o raise_v arm_n to_o they_o be_v new_a act_n and_o distinct_a duty_n or_o crime_n of_o their_o respective_a species_n of_o virtue_n or_o vice_n thus_o though_o to_o slay_v a_o deprehend_v adulteress_n which_o be_v murder_n in_o england_n though_o it_o be_v justice_n in_o spain_n relate_v to_o the_o manner_n of_o execution_n yet_o it_o be_v a_o new_a and_o distinct_a instance_n of_o that_o sin_n make_v by_o a_o civil_a constitution_n and_o not_o determine_v by_o the_o divine_a law_n but_o then_o here_o be_v no_o more_o ascribe_v to_o the_o magistrate_n than_o be_v common_a with_o he_o to_o every_o man_n in_o the_o world_n ibid._n so_o much_o the_o firm_a my_o argument_n for_o it_o be_v not_o reasonable_a to_o deny_v so_o much_o power_n to_o public_a authority_n as_o every_o private_a man_n may_v claim_v and_o exercise_n nor_o just_a to_o forbid_v magistrate_n to_o command_v that_o to_o their_o subject_n which_o their_o subject_n may_v lawful_o command_v to_o themselves_o but_o after_o all_o this_o trifle_n he_o leap_v to_o a_o fresh_a enquiry_n for_o he_o be_v old_a excellent_a at_o ask_v question_n when_o he_o shall_v be_v make_v answer_n viz._n if_o magistrate_n be_v impower_v to_o declare_v suspect_v some_o subtle_a plot_n yet_o i_o have_v not_o sagacity_n enough_o to_o find_v out_o either_o its_o design_n or_o its_o sophistry_n and_o therefore_o i_o shall_v only_o answer_v like_o a_o neither_o prove_n nor_o confute_v and_o yet_o because_o it_o be_v say_v it_o must_v be_v answer_v therefore_o i_o will_v only_o demand_v of_o he_o what_o be_v the_o old_a virtue_n he_o intend_v whether_o those_o that_o be_v in_o fashion_n in_o the_o day_n of_o king_n arthur_n or_o those_o that_o be_v so_o in_o the_o day_n of_o king_n oliver_n but_o to_o tell_v you_o the_o truth_n he_o care_v
