manner_n how_o and_o in_o what_o sort_n it_o be_v give_v unto_o he_o by_o christ_n which_o
in_o their_o time_n do_v pretend_v christ_n indeed_o and_o so_o also_o his_o apostle_n go_v from_o place_n to_o place_n from_o city_n to_o city_n and_o from_o country_n to_o country_n preach_v and_o plant_v the_o true_a catholic_a faith_n which_o contain_v the_o doctrine_n of_o obedience_n to_o king_n and_o sovereign_a magistrate_n and_o where_o there_o be_v one_o christian_a then_o if_o there_o have_v be_v a_o thousand_o and_o so_o proportionable_o for_o every_o one_o neither_o christ_n nor_o any_o of_o his_o apostle_n will_v have_v move_v they_o to_o any_o arm_n or_o disobedience_n against_o the_o civil_a magistrate_n although_o they_o be_v at_o that_o time_n very_o great_a persecutor_n and_o impugner_n of_o the_o gospel_n the_o like_a may_v also_o be_v say_v for_o the_o age_n succeed_v when_o such_o go_n from_o place_n to_o place_n and_o preach_v as_o doctor_n stapleton_n speak_v of_o will_v of_o a_o certainty_n have_v be_v utter_o condemn_v and_o how_o glad_a say_v he_o this_o examinate_v shall_v i_o have_v be_v if_o these_o kind_n of_o position_n now_o urge_v upon_o i_o have_v be_v leave_v to_o buchananus_n and_o such_o of_o his_o follower_n as_o have_v run_v that_o race_n and_o therefore_o he_o humble_o desire_v that_o he_o may_v be_v no_o further_o trouble_v with_o these_o uncatholicke_a and_o bloody_a novelty_n the_o same_o be_v most_o repugnant_a to_o the_o duty_n and_o office_n of_o a_o true_a catholic_a priest_n and_o the_o rather_o because_o his_o intermeddle_v so_o much_o with_o they_o though_o he_o can_v not_o well_o choose_v except_o he_o shall_v have_v speak_v against_o his_o conscience_n do_v tend_v more_o he_o fear_v to_o his_o particular_a discredit_n than_o as_o many_o man_n do_v now_o stand_v affect_v to_o any_o such_o religious_a use_n or_o edification_n as_o this_o examinate_a wish_v that_o all_o his_o word_n and_o work_n may_v ever_o effect_v and_o attain_v unto_o 145_o here_o it_o be_v hold_v convenient_a to_o demand_v of_o he_o this_o examinate_a whether_o he_o think_v that_o upon_o the_o occasion_n offer_v unto_o he_o and_o charge_v lay_v upon_o he_o in_o his_o majesty_n name_n to_o deliver_v his_o conscience_n and_o judgement_n as_o well_o in_o these_o last_o point_v propound_v unto_o he_o as_o likewise_o in_o all_o the_o premise_n of_o this_o his_o examination_n he_o shall_v by_o the_o discharge_n of_o his_o duty_n therein_o grow_v to_o any_o discredit_n either_o with_o priest_n or_o lay_v catholic_n and_o not_o rather_o that_o if_o all_o he_o have_v deliver_v shall_v happen_v to_o be_v publish_v it_o will_v procure_v he_o more_o favour_n and_o great_a reputation_n with_o they_o he_o answer_v that_o of_o the_o last_o point_n the_o increase_n of_o his_o credit_n he_o have_v small_a hope_n and_o that_o he_o have_v already_o feel_v some_o experience_n of_o the_o former_a in_o that_o there_o be_v but_o a_o suspicion_n already_o cast_v abroad_o that_o he_o continue_v in_o the_o justification_n of_o the_o lawfulness_n to_o take_v the_o oath_n of_o allegiance_n the_o very_a conceit_n of_o it_o before_o they_o be_v acquaint_v with_o that_o which_o he_o have_v say_v in_o this_o his_o examination_n do_v much_o offend_v many_o as_o he_o have_v be_v inform_v and_o as_o in_o his_o private_a estate_n he_o do_v very_o sensible_o feel_v neither_o can_v he_o as_o he_o say_v expect_v from_o they_o any_o thing_n else_o but_o discontentment_n and_o grudge_v against_o he_o while_o the_o pope_n brief_n procure_v by_o surreption_n and_o false_a suggestion_n as_o he_o think_v in_o his_o conscience_n do_v prevail_v so_o much_o with_o they_o or_o until_o it_o shall_v please_v god_n to_o abate_v the_o heat_n of_o some_o spirit_n and_o replenish_v all_o their_o heart_n with_o true_a knowledge_n in_o these_o matter_n and_o with_o great_a humility_n and_o patience_n than_o now_o he_o say_v he_o can_v well_o boast_v of_o 146_o last_o forasmuch_o as_o it_o be_v most_o evident_a to_o his_o majesty_n and_o the_o state_n viz_n how_o the_o catholic_n in_o england_n do_v now_o stand_v affect_v how_o they_o do_v general_o dislike_v the_o oath_n of_o allegiance_n how_o of_o late_a few_o of_o the_o laity_n in_o respect_n of_o the_o multitude_n will_v yield_v to_o take_v it_o how_o since_o the_o pope_n breve_n come_v over_o the_o priest_n all_o of_o they_o almost_o do_v impugn_v it_o and_o dissuade_v all_o catholic_n from_o take_v of_o it_o and_o how_o they_o labour_v and_o travail_v hither_o and_o thither_o preach_v and_o teach_v that_o the_o pope_n have_v authority_n to_o depose_v his_o majesty_n to_o absolve_v his_o subject_n from_o their_o oath_n of_o allegiance_n to_o authorise_v they_o thereupon_o to_o bear_v arm_n against_o he_o and_o to_o machinate_v all_o the_o mischief_n they_o can_v against_o his_o state_n and_o person_n that_o although_o his_o majesty_n be_v not_o excommunicate_v by_o name_n yet_o by_o their_o doctrine_n he_o stand_v excommunicate_a in_o general_a term_n by_o sundry_a bull_n in_o that_o he_o allow_v not_o of_o the_o pope_n supremacy_n etc._n etc._n and_o that_o therefore_o if_o opportunity_n serve_v they_o may_v set_v on_o foot_n any_o wicked_a designment_n against_o he_o and_o furthermore_o how_o when_o they_o profess_v obedience_n upon_o any_o occasion_n it_o be_v but_o dissemble_v and_o do_v bind_v they_o no_o long_o but_o until_o they_o shall_v be_v able_a by_o reason_n of_o their_o number_n and_o strength_n to_o encounter_v his_o majesty_n without_o any_o great_a danger_n to_o themselves_o how_o there_o be_v many_o youth_n daily_o send_v over_o beyond_o the_o sea_n to_o become_v priest_n and_o be_v priest_n be_v every_o year_n send_v back_o hither_o of_o purpose_n to_o increase_v the_o number_n and_o strength_n of_o the_o say_v catholic_n and_o how_o all_o such_o priest_n by_o virtue_n of_o their_o office_n be_v bind_v to_o draw_v as_o many_o as_o they_o can_v from_o their_o allegiance_n to_o the_o king_n and_o upon_o every_o fit_a occasion_n to_o stir_v up_o his_o subject_n to_o mutiny_v and_o rebellion_n as_o be_v above_o mention_v forasmuch_o it_o be_v say_v as_o these_o point_n and_o many_o other_o such_o like_a be_v very_o evident_a and_o manifest_a it_o be_v earnest_o demand_v of_o this_o examinate_a he_o be_v a_o man_n of_o year_n mature_a judgement_n and_o good_a discretion_n as_o he_o be_v repute_v by_o the_o pope_n himself_o it_o seem_v and_o many_o other_o when_o he_o be_v make_v archpriest_n of_o england_n and_o a_o apostolical_a protonotary_n what_o course_n in_o his_o wisdom_n and_o conscience_n he_o think_v fit_a his_o majesty_n and_o the_o state_n shall_v hold_v be_v resolve_v in_o religion_n as_o they_o be_v to_o withstand_v those_o evil_n which_o of_o necessity_n in_o time_n must_v ensue_v except_o either_o by_o punishment_n they_o be_v out_o of_o hand_n prevent_v or_o that_o the_o pope_n do_v himself_o reclaim_v both_o priest_n and_o catholic_n from_o such_o inordinate_a tumultuous_a and_o traitorous_a course_n give_v they_o liberty_n so_o as_o they_o retain_v still_o their_o opinion_n of_o his_o pretend_a supremacy_n in_o spiritual_a cause_n to_o take_v the_o oath_n of_o allegiance_n that_o thereby_o they_o may_v secure_v his_o majesty_n and_o the_o state_n of_o their_o obedience_n duty_n and_o fidelity_n both_o towards_o he_o in_o all_o cause_n and_o matter_n temporal_a and_o towards_o their_o native_a country_n 147_o unto_o all_o which_o particular_n this_o examinate_a answer_v that_o this_o be_v a_o matter_n far_o above_o his_o reach_n that_o he_o know_v his_o majesty_n to_o be_v a_o king_n endow_v with_o many_o singular_a virtue_n among_o the_o which_o his_o mercy_n and_o clemency_n be_v very_o eminent_a that_o his_o majesty_n and_o the_o state_n be_v exceed_o provident_a to_o prevent_v all_o danger_n that_o the_o number_n of_o priest_n be_v nothing_o if_o it_o be_v compare_v to_o the_o number_n of_o minister_n which_o be_v and_o so_o will_v continue_v here_o in_o england_n that_o there_o be_v no_o likelihood_n that_o so_o few_o priest_n in_o respect_n of_o the_o say_a minister_n shall_v ever_o be_v able_a to_o draw_v so_o many_o to_o the_o pope_n as_o they_o have_v power_n and_o mean_n to_o withhold_v man_n from_o he_o that_o he_o hope_v if_o ever_o the_o pope_n may_v be_v true_o inform_v of_o the_o state_n of_o england_n he_o will_v enforce_v all_o catholic_n to_o hold_v a_o dutiful_a temper_n towards_o their_o prince_n that_o it_o may_v be_v that_o in_o short_a time_n the_o heat_n of_o all_o disorder_a invention_n will_v be_v quench_v that_o although_o man_n of_o youth_n and_o vigour_n delight_v in_o novelty_n be_v likely_a enough_o to_o continue_v a_o while_n heady_a yet_o he_o have_v some_o hope_n that_o the_o grave_a sort_n will_v have_v recourse_n to_o the_o ancient_a practice_n of_o the_o sincere_a catholic_n that_o general_o all_o the_o catholic_n in_o
