of_o our_o life_n 1._o in_o relation_n to_o god_n and_o then_o it_o be_v a_o ready_a willing_a submission_n to_o his_o will_n whether_o to_o believe_v what_o he_o affirm_v be_v it_o never_o so_o much_o above_o my_o reason_n the_o captivation_n of_o the_o understanding_n to_o the_o obedience_n of_o faith_n or_o to_o do_v what_o he_o command_v and_o then_o it_o be_v obedience_n or_o to_o endure_v what_o he_o see_v fit_a to_o lay_v upon_o we_o and_o then_o it_o be_v patience_n cheerfulness_n in_o affliction_n contentedness_n with_o ouâ—_n lot_n whatsoever_o it_o be_v contrary_a to_o all_o murmur_a and_o repine_v and_o enmity_n to_o the_o cross_n and_o all_o restless_a unsatisfiednesse_n the_o be_v dumb_a or_o silent_a to_o the_o lord_n psal_n 37._o 7._o and_o resolve_v with_o old_a eli_n it_o be_v the_o lord_n let_v he_o do_v what_o seem_v he_o good_a all_o which_o faith_n obedience_n patience_n though_o they_o be_v virtue_n of_o themselves_o distinct_a from_o meekness_n strict_o take_v may_v yet_o be_v very_o sit_o reduce_v to_o that_o head_n in_o as_o much_o as_o meekness_n moderate_v that_o wrath_n which_o will_v by_o consequence_n destroy_v they_o 2_o in_o our_o meekness_n consist_v in_o obedience_n active_a or_o passive_a act_v all_o their_o legal_a command_n and_o submit_v so_o far_o at_o least_o as_o not_o to_o make_v violent_a resistance_n to_o the_o punishment_n which_o they_o shall_v inflict_v upon_o we_o when_o we_o disobey_v their_o illegal_a in_o quietness_n of_o spirit_n and_o not_o be_v give_v to_o change_n the_o direct_a contrary_n to_o all_o speak_v evil_a of_o dignity_n but_o especial_o to_o sedition_n and_o take_v up_o of_o arm_n against_o they_o which_o of_o what_o sort_n soever_o it_o be_v though_o we_o may_v flatter_v ourselves_o that_o we_o be_v only_o on_o the_o defensive_a part_n will_v bring_v upon_o we_o condemnation_n rom._n 13_o 2._o for_o although_o it_o be_v natural_o lawful_a to_o defend_v my_o life_n tradition_n of_o the_o universal_a or_o opinion_n of_o the_o primitive_a church_n be_v to_o prevail_v at_o least_o to_o be_v hearken_v to_o with_o great_a reverence_n in_o that_o debate_n and_o that_o which_o the_o great_a part_n of_o such_o a_o lawful_a assembly_n shall_v judge_v to_o be_v most_o agreeable_a to_o such_o rule_n or_o in_o case_n there_o be_v no_o light_n to_o be_v fetch_v it_o other_o contrary-minded_n s._n but_o what_o if_o there_o be_v on_o both_o side_n great_a probability_n but_o no_o demonstration_n from_o christian_a principle_n or_o interpose_v of_o the_o church_n which_o way_n will_v my_o meekness_n then_o direct_v i_o to_o propend_v c._n that_o which_o must_v then_o direct_v i_o be_v my_o own_o conscience_n to_o take_v to_o that_o which_o seem_v to_o i_o most_o probable_a and_o in_o that_o my_o meekness_n have_v nothing_o to_o do_v nor_o can_v it_o oblige_v i_o to_o believe_v that_o which_o i_o be_o convince_v be_v not_o true_a nor_o to_o disbeleive_v that_o which_o i_o be_o convince_v be_v true_a but_o yet_o before_o i_o be_o thus_o convince_v my_o meekness_n will_v give_v i_o its_o direction_n not_o to_o rely_v too_o overweening_o on_o my_o own_o judgement_n but_o to_o compare_v myself_o with_o other_o man_n my_o equal_n but_o especial_o my_o superior_n and_o to_o have_v great_a jealousy_n of_o any_o my_o own_o singular_a opinion_n which_o be_v represent_v to_o other_o as_o judicious_a as_o my_o self_n together_o with_o the_o reason_n that_o have_v persuade_v i_o to_o they_o do_v not_o to_o they_o prove_v persuasive_a nay_o after_o i_o be_o convince_v my_o meekness_n may_v again_o move_v i_o to_o hearken_v to_o other_o reason_n that_o other_o man_n judge_v more_o prevail_a and_o if_o occasion_n be_v to_o reverse_v my_o former_a judgement_n thus_o past_a upon_o that_o matter_n it_o be_v very_o reasonable_a for_o i_o though_o not_o to_o believe_v what_o i_o be_o not_o convince_v of_o yet_o to_o conceive_v it_o possible_a for_o i_o not_o to_o see_v those_o ground_n of_o conviction_n which_o another_o see_v and_o so_o to_o be_v real_o mistake_v though_o i_o think_v i_o be_o not_o and_o than_o what_o be_v thus_o reasonable_a it_o gain_v we_o here_o within_o our_o own_o breast_n a_o calm_a from_o those_o storm_n that_o pride_n and_o anger_n and_o revenge_n be_v wont_a to_o raise_v in_o we_o and_o 3._o in_o respect_n of_o the_o quiet_a peaceable_a live_n with_o other_o without_o strife_n and_o debate_n without_o punishment_n and_o execution_n that_o be_v the_o portion_n of_o the_o seditious_a turbulent_a disobedient_a spirit_n which_o be_v the_o meaning_n undoubted_o of_o the_o promise_n in_o the_o psalmist_n the_o meek_a shall_v inherit_v the_o earth_n i._n e._n shall_v general_o have_v the_o rich_a portion_n of_o the_o good_a thing_n of_o this_o life_n from_o whence_o this_o place_n in_o the_o gospel_n be_v take_v though_o it_o may_v be_v accommodate_v to_o a_o spiritual_a sense_n by_o interpret_n the_o earth_n for_o the_o land_n of_o the_o live_n yet_o undoubted_o it_o literal_o note_v the_o land_n of_o canaan_n or_o judea_n which_o 〈◊〉_d be_v oft_o in_o the_o old_a and_o new_a testament_n call_v the_o jew_n a_o type_n and_o to_o they_o that_o obey_v a_o pledge_n of_o the_o eternal_a so_o the_o earth_n here_o a_o real_a inheritance_n below_o and_o a_o pawn_n of_o another_o above_o and_o this_o be_v the_o meek_a man_n advantage_n above_o many_o other_o duty_n a_o double_a canaan_n be_v think_v little_a enough_o for_o he_o the_o same_o felicity_n in_o a_o manner_n attend_v he_o which_o we_o believe_v of_o adam_n if_o he_o have_v not_o fall_v a_o life_n in_o paradise_n and_o from_o thence_o a_o transplantation_n to_o heaven_n the_o like_a we_o read_v of_o they_o that_o part_n with_o any_o thing_n dear_a to_o they_o for_o christ_n sake_n or_o in_o obedience_n to_o christ_n command_n which_o i_o conceive_v belong_v especial_o to_o the_o liberal_a mind_a man_n he_o shall_v have_v a_o hundred_o fold_n more_o in_o this_o life_n and_o in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v everlasting_a life_n and_o unless_o it_o be_v here_o to_o the_o meek_a or_o to_o godliness_n in_o general_a 1_o tim._n 4._o 8._o we_o meet_v not_o with_o any_o other_o temporal_a promise_n in_o the_o new_a testament_n which_o may_v therefore_o be_v resolve_v very_o well_o to_o be_v parallel_v to_o that_o other_o not_o only_o in_o the_o hundred_o fold_n or_o inheritance_n in_o this_o life_n but_o in_o that_o other_o also_o of_o another_o life_n beside_o other_o place_n of_o scripture_n there_o be_v that_o intimate_v the_o future_a reward_n of_o the_o meek_a as_o where_o it_o be_v say_v to_o be_v in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n of_o great_a price_n and_o that_o if_o we_o learn_v of_o christ_n to_o be_v meek_a we_o shall_v find_v rest_n to_o our_o soul_n and_o even_o here_o the_o blessedness_n in_o the_o front_n note_v present_a blessedness_n can_v right_o do_v so_o if_o there_o be_v no_o future_a reward_n righteousness_n c._n it_o be_v of_o two_o sort_n 1._o inherent_a &_o then_o impute_v the_o inherent_a imperfect_a proportion_v to_o our_o state_n consist_v in_o the_o mortify_n of_o sin_n and_o lust_n and_o some_o degree_n of_o holy_a new_a life_n the_o impute_v be_v christ_n righteousness_n accept_v as_o we_o which_o be_v in_o plain_a word_n the_o pardon_n of_o our_o sin_n and_o acceptation_n of_o our_o person_n in_o christ_n s._n what_o be_v hunger_a and_o thirst_v c._n you_o may_v join_v they_o both_o together_o and_o make_v they_o one_o common_a appetite_n of_o both_o those_o kind_n of_o
