use_v in_o his_o behalf_n be_v desirous_a that_o they_o shall_v pray_v for_o he_o and_o do_v as_o it_o be_v seek_v it_o at_o their_o hand_n if_o he_o in_o so_o good_a a_o cause_n do_v not_o rest_n in_o the_o confidence_n of_o his_o own_o prayer_n but_o desire_v other_o to_o pray_v for_o he_o and_o if_o he_o do_v it_o then_o when_o he_o have_v so_o many_o mean_n to_o accomplish_v his_o desire_n because_o he_o know_v god_n to_o be_v above_o they_o and_o so_o as_o without_o he_o they_o can_v do_v nothing_o and_o he_o be_v able_a to_o hinder_v and_o to_o frustrate_v all_o and_o if_o he_o that_o be_v so_o well_o able_a to_o pray_v for_o himself_o and_o other_o yet_o do_v desire_v the_o prayer_n of_o other_o &_o of_o those_o that_o be_v inferior_a unto_o he_o they_o king_n ought_v to_o take_v order_n that_o the_o people_n shall_v public_o pray_v for_o they_o then_o no_o king_n prince_n or_o potentate_n be_v exempt_v from_o this_o to_o stand_v in_o need_n of_o the_o prayer_n of_o other_o in_o common_a prayer_n and_o in_o preach_v and_o that_o as_o war_n or_o other_o thing_n shall_v fall_v out_o so_o some_o special_a form_n of_o prayer_n be_v set_v out_o by_o public_a authority_n to_o be_v use_v in_o such_o case_n be_v according_a to_o god_n word_n and_o to_o the_o example_n of_o godly_a prince_n i_o speak_v not_o now_o of_o our_o duty_n to_o pray_v for_o they_o but_o of_o they_o this_o special_a need_n of_o he_o as_o be_v in_o danger_n and_o fear_n of_o his_o enemy_n so_o if_o we_o be_v in_o sickness_n and_o fear_n of_o death_n we_o shall_v in_o the_o feel_n of_o our_o own_o weakness_n and_o in_o the_o faith_n of_o the_o prayer_n of_o other_o desire_v they_o to_o pray_v for_o we_o and_o not_o only_o to_o pray_v ourselves_o and_o this_o be_v the_o advice_n and_o trouble_n unto_o he_o as_o he_o call_v it_o and_o as_o the_o apostle_n s_o james_n speak_v acknowledge_v your_o fault_n one_o to_o another_o and_o pray_v one_o for_o another_o 5.16_o jam._n 5.16_o other_o thing_n and_o shall_v come_v and_o make_v their_o moan_n unto_o we_o and_o desire_v relief_n from_o we_o if_o we_o see_v their_o estate_n to_o be_v so_o pitiful_a as_o indeed_o it_o be_v shall_v not_o be_v move_v in_o compassion_n to_o help_v they_o according_a to_o our_o ability_n it_o be_v a_o token_n of_o great_a hardness_n of_o heart_n in_o we_o so_o much_o more_o when_o any_o shall_v make_v know_v their_o want_n unto_o we_o to_o that_o end_n that_o we_o may_v pray_v to_o god_n for_o they_o if_o we_o shall_v forget_v it_o or_o neglect_v to_o do_v it_o it_o shall_v bewray_v occasion_n shall_v serve_v to_o show_v their_o devotion_n in_o prayer_n to_o the_o uttermost_a and_o not_o think_v that_o always_o one_o kind_n of_o devotion_n be_v sufficient_a secondary_o when_o and_o make_v a_o end_n of_o the_o temple_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o have_v with_o solemn_a prayer_n and_o sacrifice_n dedicate_v it_o unto_o his_o service_n all_o the_o people_n of_o the_o land_n that_o come_v up_o to_o jerusalem_n to_o the_o dedication_n of_o that_o house_n when_o all_o thing_n be_v finish_v the_o king_n send_v away_o into_o their_o tent_n
the_o ease_n and_o release_v of_o the_o affliction_n of_o our_o brethren_n that_o we_o may_v rejoice_v here_o than_o we_o have_v another_o reason_n to_o persuade_v we_o to_o pray_v for_o those_o that_o be_v and_o have_v be_v a_o long_a time_n visit_v with_o the_o pestilence_n and_o the_o grievous_a hand_n of_o god_n rejoice_v we_o shall_v pray_v that_o the_o plague_n may_v cease_v from_o faith_n and_o this_o faith_n of_o they_o all_o be_v express_v and_o declare_v not_o only_a when_o they_o say_v that_o they_o do_v know_v that_o god_n will_v hear_v and_o send_v help_n but_o especial_o and_o most_o significant_o in_o change_v the_o number_n for_o whereas_o in_o the_o former_a verse_n they_o speak_v as_o a_o multitude_n even_o the_o whole_a church_n together_o say_v that_o we_o may_v rejoice_v in_o thy_o salvation_n and_o set_v up_o our_o banner_n in_o the_o name_n of_o our_o god_n where_o three_o time_n they_o speak_v in_o the_o person_n of_o many_o here_o as_o though_o there_o be_v but_o one_o that_o pray_v they_o say_v i_o know_v and_o this_o they_o do_v according_a to_o the_o nature_n of_o true_a faith_n which_o be_v to_o apply_v god_n promise_n and_o his_o merciful_a deliverance_n particular_o to_o every_o man_n and_o woman_n and_o so_o say_v as_o it_o be_v in_o our_o creed_n i_o believe_v in_o god_n and_o not_o we_o believe_v that_o be_v i_o be_o persuade_v that_o he_o be_v the_o god_n not_o only_o of_o other_o but_o of_o i_o and_o so_o here_o though_o many_o do_v use_v this_o prayer_n together_o yet_o every_o one_o be_v to_o have_v this_o faith_n in_o themselves_o that_o they_o do_v know_v that_o god_n will_v hear_v they_o and_o what_o do_v they_o or_o shall_v they_o believe_v that_o god_n will_v help_v his_o anointed_n that_o be_v their_o king_n david_n so_o call_v because_o he_o be_v by_o the_o commandment_n of_o god_n anoint_v by_o samuel_n the_o prophet_n unto_o that_o office_n 16.13_o 1._o sam._n 16.13_o and_o that_o he_o will_v hear_v his_o prayer_n and_o grant_v his_o request_n from_o his_o sanctuary_n that_o be_v from_o heaven_n and_o thus_o they_o believe_v that_o god_n will_v do_v by_o or_o with_o his_o right_a hand_n that_o be_v by_o his_o great_a power_n that_o he_o have_v in_o himself_o whereby_o he_o be_v able_a to_o do_v all_o thing_n and_o by_o the_o mighty_a help_n thereof_o that_o be_v that_o great_a help_n which_o he_o shall_v and_o will_v give_v which_o none_o be_v able_a to_o resist_v and_o thus_o for_o the_o further_o strengthen_v of_o their_o faith_n they_o set_v before_o their_o eye_n the_o great_a god_n this_o teach_v we_o to_o come_v so_o prepare_v unto_o prayer_n that_o we_o believe_v beforehand_o that_o god_n will_v hear_v our_o prayer_n us._n we_o must_v pray_v in_o faith_n believe_v that_o god_n will_v hear_v us._n and_o that_o we_o shall_v not_o pray_v in_o vain_a but_o he_o will_v give_v we_o the_o thing_n that_o we_o ask_v and_o this_o faith_n be_v so_o requisite_a and_o necessary_a that_o without_o it_o neither_o be_v our_o prayer_n acceptable_a unto_o god_n neither_o can_v we_o look_v to_o receive_v any_o thing_n at_o his_o hand_n 11.6_o heb._n 11.6_o for_o without_o faith_n it_o be_v impossible_a to_o please_v god_n as_o in_o no_o other_o duty_n that_o we_o do_v so_o not_o in_o prayer_n and_o faith_n be_v requisite_a in_o all_o those_o that_o ask_v any_o thing_n of_o believe_v for_o as_o it_o be_v say_v of_o they_o of_o his_o own_o country_n when_o he_o be_v among_o they_o 6.5_o matth._n 13.58_o marc._n 6.5_o he_o can_v not_o do_v many_o great_a work_n there_o for_o their_o unbelief_n sake_n he_o can_v have_v do_v enough_o his_o divine_a power_n be_v sufficient_a but_o they_o have_v not_o faith_n to_o
for_o despite_n and_o sink_v in_o because_o of_o all_o my_o enemy_n here_o we_o see_v that_o in_o these_o seven_o first_o verse_n he_o complain_v most_o grievous_o of_o his_o own_o estate_n &_o pray_v most_o fervent_o unto_o god_n for_o deliverance_n and_o no_o man_n can_v say_v more_o either_o to_o express_v the_o grief_n of_o his_o mind_n or_o his_o fervent_a desire_n to_o have_v relief_n and_o have_v hear_v my_o petition_n the_o lord_n will_v receive_v my_o prayer_n all_o my_o enemy_n shall_v be_v confound_v and_o sore_o vex_v they_o shall_v be_v turn_v back_o and_o put_v to_o shame_v himself_o but_o again_o and_o again_o profess_v that_o the_o lord_n have_v hear_v his_o prayer_n and_o the_o voice_n of_o his_o weep_n and_o not_o only_o that_o be_v to_o be_v mark_v but_o especial_o this_o that_o he_o come_v unto_o this_o assurance_n not_o until_o the_o end_n of_o many_o long_a and_o fervent_a prayer_n and_o that_o in_o the_o beginning_n either_o he_o have_v it_o not_o at_o all_o or_o nothing_o in_o that_o measure_n that_o there_o he_o profess_v it_o for_o than_o no_o doubt_n he_o will_v have_v do_v it_o soon_o and_o not_o so_o long_o have_v feed_v himself_o with_o such_o grievous_a complaint_n and_o lamentable_a outcry_n as_o there_o he_o do_v mean_n and_o so_o may_v we_o do_v for_o god_n give_v it_o by_o ordinary_a mean_n so_o be_v it_o possible_a for_o we_o in_o what_o trouble_n soever_o we_o shall_v be_v in_o if_o we_o pray_v unto_o god_n in_o all_o humility_n and_o sorrow_n for_o our_o sin_n as_o he_o do_v even_o with_o great_a abundance_n of_o tear_n for_o he_o say_v that_o he_o water_v his_o couch_n and_o make_v his_o bed_n to_o swim_v with_o they_o by_o which_o hyperbolical_a kind_n of_o speech_n he_o mean_v that_o he_o weep_v very_o much_o not_o only_o in_o the_o day_n but_o even_o in_o the_o night_n also_o and_o if_o we_o do_v pray_v with_o that_o fervency_n that_o he_o do_v not_o faint_v nor_o give_v over_o but_o stretch_v out_o our_o affection_n and_o desire_n according_a to_o our_o present_a need_n it_o be_v possible_a i_o say_v for_o we_o to_o attain_v by_o degree_n unto_o that_o measure_n of_o persuasion_n of_o god_n goodness_n towards_o we_o that_o may_v suffice_v us._n and_o though_o we_o come_v not_o to_o that_o great_a measure_n that_o be_v in_o this_o holy_a man_n because_o we_o pray_v not_o in_o that_o fervency_n and_o zeal_n and_o tenderness_n of_o heart_n that_o he_o do_v yet_o in_o some_o acceptable_a measure_n and_o more_o than_o we_o have_v in_o the_o beginning_n for_o i_o be_o not_o of_o that_o opinion_n that_o this_o be_v inspire_v into_o he_o as_o he_o be_v a_o prophet_n who_o have_v many_o thing_n extraordinary_a neither_o that_o any_o man_n can_v come_v to_o have_v any_o assurance_n or_o full_a persuasion_n either_o of_o their_o salvation_n or_o that_o god_n hear_v their_o prayer_n or_o of_o any_o other_o favour_n from_o he_o without_o some_o revelation_n and_o so_o it_o shall_v be_v think_v presumption_n in_o a_o man_n to_o say_v he_o be_v assure_v of_o such_o thing_n but_o that_o god_n give_v this_o assurance_n and_o increase_v it_o by_o ordinary_a mean_n and_o namely_o and_o especial_o by_o prayer_n for_o see_v prayer_n be_v very_o fit_o compare_v unto_o wrestle_v or_o strive_v as_o we_o have_v see_v heretofore_o by_o which_o we_o labour_v with_o all_o the_o power_n of_o our_o soul_n and_o body_n it_o a_o comparison_n to_o show_v the_o truth_n of_o it_o to_o obtain_v some_o thing_n of_o the_o lord_n as_o by_o bodily_a strive_a man_n seek_v to_o obtain_v some_o mastery_n among_o man_n and_o thus_o the_o apostle_n speak_v of_o it_o to_o the_o roman_n 15.30_o rom._n 15.30_o desire_v they_o to_o strive_v with_o he_o by_o prayer_n to_o god_n for_o he_o as_o in_o strive_v a_o man_n strength_n be_v not_o always_o great_a at_o the_o first_o neither_o can_v himself_o or_o other_o perceive_v so_o well_o whether_o he_o shall_v overcome_v but_o sometime_o yea_o most_o usual_o when_o after_o some_o pain_n take_v his_o body_n be_v well_o heat_n he_o increase_v in_o strength_n of_o body_n and_o agility_n of_o limb_n whereby_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o he_o find_v that_o in_o himself_o which_o give_v he_o great_a hope_n of_o prevail_a against_o his_o adversary_n than_o he_o have_v before_o so_o be_v it_o when_o we_o pray_v to_o god_n and_o as_o it_o be_v strive_v with_o he_o that_o though_o we_o put_v all_o our_o strength_n unto_o it_o at_o the_o first_o that_o be_v pray_v with_o all_o the_o desire_n of_o our_o heart_n yet_o when_o by_o continuance_n in_o prayer_n the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o we_o be_v well_o heat_n as_o i_o may_v say_v and_o the_o heat_n of_o it_o increase_v we_o shall_v find_v that_o both_o our_o desire_n be_v great_o increase_v &_o also_o our_o assurance_n from_o thence_o of_o be_v hear_v be_v enlarge_v so_o that_o in_o the_o midst_n or_o end_n of_o our_o prayer_n we_o shall_v perceive_v our_o mind_n more_o that_o one_o book_n as_o it_o be_v full_a of_o godly_a prayer_n so_o of_o notable_a example_n of_o this_o kind_n of_o the_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o his_o child_n and_o servant_n but_o for_o brevity_n sake_n i_o will_v content_v myself_o with_o one_o or_o two_o now_o in_o the_o seventeeth_n psalm_n he_o pray_v unto_o god_n to_o be_v preserve_v from_o his_o enemy_n either_o reason_n to_o move_v the_o lord_n to_o hear_v he_o as_o the_o goodness_n of_o his_o cause_n the_o uprightness_n of_o his_o mind_n the_o fervency_n of_o his_o prayer_n and_o such_o like_a he_o say_v that_o he_o do_v then_o assure_v himself_o that_o god_n will_v hear_v he_o and_o so_o do_v continue_v his_o prayer_n unto_o he_o in_o that_o assurance_n of_o faith_n but_o it_o be_v to_o be_v note_v for_o this_o purpose_n that_o we_o have_v in_o hand_n &_o for_o which_o this_o be_v allege_v that_o though_o in_o the_o beginning_n he_o pray_v and_o then_o again_o return_v to_o his_o prayer_n unto_o the_o lord_n that_o he_o will_v hear_v he_o yet_o he_o put_v this_o in_o
verse_n 22._o to_o slay_v and_o destroy_v they_o &_o when_o they_o have_v make_v a_o end_n of_o the_o inhabitant_n of_o seir_n every_o one_o help_v to_o destroy_v another_o here_o we_o see_v also_o in_o this_o common_a danger_n and_o fear_n when_o many_o pray_v together_o there_o be_v one_o man_n at_o the_o least_o to_o who_o god_n give_v this_o assurance_n to_o the_o great_a comfort_n of_o hand_n and_o though_o other_o in_o that_o company_n can_v not_o say_v so_o yet_o god_n give_v it_o to_o he_o for_o all_o the_o rest_n who_o if_o he_o have_v be_v want_v the_o rest_n may_v still_o have_v languish_v in_o their_o fear_n unless_o god_n have_v raise_v up_o the_o spirit_n of_o some_o other_o godly_a in_o this_o respect_n we_o ought_v to_o make_v of_o the_o company_n and_o presence_n of_o the_o godly_a and_o so_o we_o see_v what_o a_o bless_a thing_n it_o be_v to_o have_v such_o a_o faithful_a and_o zealous_a man_n in_o their_o company_n to_o pray_v for_o they_o therefore_o let_v we_o make_v much_o of_o the_o company_n of_o the_o godly_a especial_o let_v we_o be_v desirous_a to_o be_v partaker_n of_o their_o prayer_n that_o when_o as_o we_o be_v weak_a ourselves_o and_o discomfort_a in_o ourselves_o yet_o we_o may_v be_v strengthen_v and_o uphold_v by_o they_o for_o as_o when_o one_o lie_v very_o sick_a and_o like_a to_o die_v and_o all_o about_o he_o be_v in_o fear_n of_o it_o there_o may_v be_v a_o skilful_a physician_n or_o some_o of_o great_a experience_n who_o may_v see_v great_a token_n of_o life_n in_o he_o more_o than_o all_o the_o rest_n &_o so_o comfort_v they_o in_o hope_n of_o it_o when_o they_o be_v all_o discourage_v so_o when_o many_o be_v in_o trouble_n and_o look_v for_o no_o way_n but_o one_o as_o we_o say_v the_o lord_n may_v so_o open_a the_o eye_n of_o the_o mind_n of_o one_o who_o by_o faith_n after_o earnest_a prayer_n may_v see_v into_o that_o help_n that_o god_n have_v promise_v in_o his_o word_n and_o comfort_v they_o with_o the_o hope_n of_o it_o and_o for_o want_v of_o this_o we_o be_v many_o time_n more_o dismay_v in_o trouble_n than_o otherwise_o we_o may_v be_v therefore_o in_o all_o affliction_n if_o we_o desire_v comfort_n from_o god_n let_v we_o desire_v those_o that_o be_v faithful_a and_o godly_a to_o pray_v with_o we_o and_o for_o us._n it_o follow_v in_o the_o word_n of_o the_o text_n call_v his_o anointed_n that_o be_v david_n &_o why_o so_o call_v that_o the_o lord_n will_v help_v his_o anointed_n this_o be_v then_o further_o to_o be_v consider_v that_o david_n pray_v himself_o and_o teach_v the_o people_n also_o so_o to_o do_v that_o god_n will_v help_v his_o anointed_n by_o which_o word_n he_o mean_v himself_o and_o they_o mean_v david_n their_o king_n who_o be_v so_o call_v because_o he_o be_v anoint_v with_o holy_a oil_n to_o be_v king_n according_a to_o the_o custom_n of_o that_o time_n by_o which_o as_o by_o a_o outward_a visible_a ceremony_n they_o that_o be_v make_v king_n be_v separate_v and_o put_v apart_o from_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o people_n and_o invest_v into_o that_o office_n and_o high_a call_n whereby_o also_o they_o be_v teach_v to_o labour_v for_o be_v their_o king_n and_o he_o be_v no_o tyrant_n or_o usurper_n that_o therefore_o god_n will_v preserve_v he_o in_o that_o place_n whereunto_o he_o have_v call_v he_o and_o so_o from_o the_o lawfulness_n of_o his_o call_n he_o do_v comfort_v himself_o and_o they_o that_o god_n will_v hear_v they_o for_o he_o and_o defend_v he_o and_o true_o there_o be_v great_a reason_n of_o that_o for_o if_o a_o earthly_a king_n when_o he_o appoint_v any_o to_o be_v judge_n over_o his_o people_n do_v also_o protect_v they_o in_o that_o office_n by_o his_o law_n and_o by_o all_o his_o subject_n so_o that_o in_o their_o whole_a circuit_n they_o have_v the_o sheriff_n of_o the_o shire_n and_o all_o his_o man_n with_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o chief_a knight_n and_o gentleman_n and_o other_o inferior_a officer_n to_o attend_v upon_o they_o because_o they_o represent_v the_o king_n person_n and_o the_o judge_n he_o comfort_v himself_o in_o all_o his_o lawful_a affair_n against_o all_o the_o desperate_a attempt_n of_o thief_n witch_n murderer_n and_o all_o malefactor_n that_o seek_v to_o hurt_v he_o that_o the_o king_n who_o have_v call_v he_o to_o that_o place_n will_v defend_v he_o in_o it_o and_o not_o suffer_v he_o to_o sustain_v any_o damage_n for_o the_o execute_n of_o his_o office_n then_o the_o lord_n the_o king_n of_o king_n appoint_v david_n in_o this_o place_n and_o make_v he_o to_o be_v his_o vicegerent_n upon_o earth_n over_o that_o people_n much_o more_o will_v defend_v he_o in_o it_o against_o his_o enemy_n and_o as_o this_o be_v true_a so_o he_o do_v believe_v it_o and_o teach_v they_o so_o to_o do_v and_o to_o pray_v in_o that_o faith_n that_o god_n will_v send_v help_n unto_o he_o because_o he_o be_v his_o anointed_n and_o this_o that_o david_n say_v here_o prince_n so_o may_v all_o lawful_a prince_n be_v true_a not_o only_o of_o his_o own_o person_n but_o of_o all_o other_o king_n and_o prince_n that_o be_v the_o lord_n anoint_v that_o be_v who_o be_v come_v to_o their_o kingdom_n lawful_o either_o by_o free_a election_n or_o lineal_a descent_n and_o so_o be_v put_v in_o by_o god_n it_o be_v true_a i_o say_v that_o the_o lord_n will_v defend_v they_o in_o all_o their_o lawful_a attempt_n which_o they_o take_v in_o hand_n
god_n when_o they_o be_v so_o quality_v for_o they_o as_o he_o have_v require_v in_o his_o word_n and_o when_o they_o come_v to_o they_o by_o such_o lawful_a choice_n as_o he_o have_v appoint_v that_o so_o every_o one_o do_v that_o which_o god_n require_v of_o they_o in_o the_o same_o they_o may_v as_o any_o trouble_n shall_v come_v upon_o they_o or_o any_o difficulty_n shall_v befall_v they_o they_o may_v i_o say_v with_o comfort_n and_o in_o faith_n pray_v that_o god_n will_v hear_v and_o help_v they_o they_o be_v his_o anointed_n that_o be_v come_v to_o those_o place_n by_o his_o appointment_n servant_n even_o unto_o the_o mean_a call_v as_o of_o be_v a_o servant_n and_o this_o as_o it_o be_v requisite_a in_o every_o call_n or_o state_n of_o life_n that_o one_o be_v in_o even_o unto_o the_o mean_a to_o be_v persuade_v that_o they_o be_v place_v in_o they_o by_o god_n so_o there_o be_v great_a comfort_n therein_o whatsoever_o shall_v befall_v they_o in_o the_o same_o as_o the_o apostle_n speak_v of_o the_o call_n of_o a_o servant_n 7.17_o 1._o cor._n 7.17_o and_o of_o be_v call_v unto_o the_o estate_n of_o marriage_n and_o say_v of_o they_o and_o of_o all_o tell_v he_o that_o it_o be_v that_o trade_n of_o life_n which_o god_n have_v distribute_v unto_o they_o &_o which_o he_o have_v call_v they_o unto_o so_o that_o a_o servant_n must_v be_v persuade_v in_o paradise_n be_v join_v to_o adam_n by_o the_o immediate_a hand_n of_o god_n and_o so_o that_o they_o come_v not_o together_o by_o fortune_n or_o chance_n or_o by_o the_o will_n and_o consent_n of_o their_o friend_n or_o by_o their_o own_o choice_n only_o but_o by_o god_n &_o that_o their_o marriage_n be_v first_o make_v in_o heaven_n before_o it_o be_v solemnize_v upon_o earth_n and_o therefore_o that_o they_o be_v in_o that_o place_n that_o god_n have_v call_v they_o unto_o then_o may_v they_o with_o comfort_n pray_v for_o all_o such_o gift_n as_o be_v needful_a for_o those_o thus_o pray_v unto_o god_n and_o will_v the_o people_n to_o pray_v for_o he_o in_o this_o good_a action_n whereunto_o he_o be_v lawful_o call_v and_o god_n do_v hear_v their_o prayer_n and_o give_v
