piece_n of_o ordnance_n to_o the_o west-gate_n and_o a_o strong_a guard_n of_o musquetier_n well_o provide_v with_o granade_n and_o ammunition_n and_o place_v four_o stout_a man_n in_o a_o boat_n under_o overs_n bridge_n who_o lie_v under_o the_o arch_a private_a with_o direction_n that_o upon_o fire_v the_o first_o gun_n they_o shall_v but_o cut_v a_o gable-rope_n which_o be_v do_v the_o of_o a_o man_n escape_n in_o this_o posture_n preparation_n and_o expectation_n we_o continue_v all_o that_o night_n watch_v diligent_o but_o private_o for_o a_o happy_a time_n to_o have_v deliver_v ourselves_o and_o the_o whole_a kingdom_n from_o the_o future_a mischief_n of_o such_o subtle_a insinuate_n and_o bloodthirsty_a enemy_n but_o god_n time_n be_v not_o then_o come_v for_o albeit_o they_o do_v advance_v with_o their_o whole_a body_n both_o of_o horse_n and_o foot_n yet_o when_o they_o come_v to_o lassington_n hill_n within_o a_o mile_n of_o the_o town_n it_o be_v fair_a day_n whereby_o they_o have_v lose_v their_o time_n by_o their_o own_o slowness_n of_o march_n they_o dare_v not_o come_v on_o but_o instant_o retreat_v to_o newent_n as_o appear_v by_o this_o letter_n which_o i_o receive_v from_o master_n stanford_n on_o the_o morrow_n after_o be_v friday_n the_o sixteenth_o of_o february_n 1643._o dear_a robin_n your_o messenger_n come_v so_o late_o that_o we_o can_v not_o possible_o effect_v the_o design_n yet_o our_o confidence_n of_o your_o best_a assistance_n make_v we_o attempt_v it_o but_o it_o be_v day_n before_o we_o can_v possible_o come_v we_o must_v once_o again_o desire_v the_o like_a readiness_n from_o you_o on_o saturday_n or_o sunday_n at_o the_o far_a and_o then_o we_o shall_v not_o fail_v to_o be_v in_o a_o readiness_n it_o be_v ten_o of_o the_o clock_n before_o he_o come_v i_o shall_v desire_v your_o answer_n either_o to_o day_n or_o to_o morrow_n at_o the_o far_a you_o e._n s._n the_o receipt_n of_o this_o letter_n make_v we_o believe_v that_o the_o enemy_n have_v then_o receive_v no_o information_n that_o their_o design_n be_v destroy_v and_o make_v know_v and_o so_o much_o the_o rather_o for_o that_o we_o keep_v the_o gate_n so_o close_o shut_v the_o next_o day_n after_o be_v friday_n that_o we_o suffer_v no_o man_n to_o pass_v the_o port_n upon_o any_o business_n whatsoever_o which_o make_v we_o willing_a to_o see_v if_o we_o can_v salve_v the_o business_n by_o another_o letter_n and_o to_o give_v they_o encouragement_n to_o come_v on_o again_o whereupon_o this_o letter_n be_v write_v and_o send_v the_o next_o day_n to_o mr._n stanford_n with_o this_o note_n enclose_v the_o note_n sir_n take_v heed_n what_o you_o do_v the_o alarm_n be_v take_v by_o the_o intelligence_n of_o two_o countryman_n who_o bring_v in_o word_n to_o the_o governor_n of_o your_o advance_v this_o way_n the_o guard_n be_v strengthen_v and_o much_o puzzle_v here_o be_v at_o present_a whereof_o i_o wish_v you_o to_o take_v notice_n from_o your_o servant_n r._n b._n the_o letter_n sir_n i_o be_o glad_a you_o come_v not_o the_o last_o night_n i_o hope_v some_o good_a fate_n be_v in_o it_o i_o be_v never_o so_o at_o my_o wit_n end_n and_o yet_o for_o my_o hang_n dare_v make_v no_o show_n of_o it_o whilst_o i_o be_v write_v to_o you_o and_o devise_v to_o send_v the_o messenger_n clean_o out_o at_o the_o gate_n which_o i_o be_v fain_o to_o act_v in_o my_o own_o person_n the_o governor_n receive_v information_n by_o two_o countryman_n that_o you_o be_v march_v this_o way_n and_o that_o some_o of_o your_o soldier_n shall_v give_v out_o that_o the_o west-gate_n be_v to_o be_v open_v to_o they_o by_o some_o very_o near_o unto_o he_o whereupon_o there_o be_v a_o alarm_n and_o one_o great_a gun_n draw_v to_o the_o west-gate_n and_o the_o guard_n there_o make_v strong_a much_o mutter_n be_v who_o shall_v be_v the_o man_n to_o let_v you_o in_o some_o give_v out_o that_o i_o be_v disinherit_v other_o that_o it_o be_v some_o townsman_n in_o the_o begin_n of_o these_o buzzing_n i_o come_v to_o the_o governor_n who_o tell_v i_o of_o his_o intelligence_n that_o you_o be_v march_v for_o glaucester_n upon_o hope_n of_o be_v let_v in_o i_o see_v how_o thing_n be_v and_o see_v a_o preparation_n for_o a_o alarm_n the_o commander_n all_o send_v for_o a_o new_a word_n instant_o give_v and_o a_o resolution_n speedy_o to_o be_v in_o arm_n bethink_v myself_o on_o the_o sudden_a what_o to_o do_v to_o clear_v myself_o of_o suspicion_n with_o the_o commander_n for_o as_o for_o the_o soldier_n and_o people_n tattle_n i_o regard_v it_o not_o thus_o therefore_o i_o declare_v myself_o gentleman_n you_o have_v receive_v some_o intelligence_n as_o it_o seem_v of_o the_o enemy_n advance_v this_o night_n and_o here_o be_v mutter_v about_o the_o street_n of_o some_o plot_n to_o let_v they_o in_o and_o i_o be_o suspect_v to_o have_v some_o hand_n in_o it_o how_o clear_o and_o without_o exception_n i_o have_v hitherto_o carry_v myself_o both_o towards_o you_o and_o the_o business_n i_o appeal_v unto_o yourselves_o to_o judge_v and_o for_o the_o business_n i_o come_v now_o to_o tell_v you_o that_o i_o have_v receive_v intelligence_n from_o a_o friend_n of_o i_o in_o the_o country_n that_o the_o enemy_n mean_v certain_o to_o be_v here_o this_o night_n and_o therefore_o i_o advise_v you_o by_o all_o mean_n to_o be_v in_o readiness_n and_o know_v this_o from_o i_o that_o they_o have_v some_o promise_n from_o some_o citizen_n to_o have_v the_o gate_n open_v and_o to_o make_v the_o diversion_n from_o myself_o so_o much_o the_o more_o clear_a i_o tell_v they_o of_o two_o man_n who_o i_o much_o suspect_v and_o of_o who_o i_o know_v they_o have_v no_o good_a opinion_n but_o advise_v they_o as_o to_o be_v careful_a this_o night_n in_o their_o arm_n so_o to_o set_v some_o spy_n over_o these_o man_n carriage_n and_o as_o soon_o as_o a_o apparent_a charge_n can_v be_v prove_v against_o they_o which_o i_o do_v not_o doubt_v will_v sudden_o be_v i_o will_v bring_v they_o to_o a_o counsel_n of_o war_n and_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n endeavour_v to_o search_v out_o the_o business_n and_o perfect_a the_o charge_n against_o they_o this_o so_o take_v with_o they_o that_o they_o all_o give_v applause_n to_o what_o i_o have_v say_v desire_v i_o to_o take_v more_o special_a notice_n towards_o those_o two_o man_n and_o the_o governor_n gave-testimony_n i_o have_v do_v he_o some_o personal_a office_n of_o acceptable_a service_n of_o his_o belief_n of_o my_o fidelity_n to_o which_o all_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o commander_n assent_v also_o this_o be_v do_v every_o man_n be_v repair_v to_o his_o arm_n wherein_o i_o be_v not_o backward_a myself_o to_o give_v command_n to_o the_o horse_n to_o be_v in_o readiness_n and_o to_o encourage_v the_o soldier_n but_o still_o at_o the._n governors_n elbow_n but_o i_o shall_v have_v tell_v you_o that_o as_o soon_o as_o i_o see_v these_o thing_n thus_o run_v i_o instant_o go_v home_n and_o give_v my_o man_n ned_n this_o enclose_a note_n and_o i_o walk_v as_o far_o as_o overs_n bridge_n with_o he_o wait_v on_o i_o to_o hearken_v whether_o we_o can_v hear_v any_o noise_n where_o by_o my_o direction_n he_o slip_v from_o i_o and_o though_o i_o can_v not_o get_v he_o to_o undertake_v to_o find_v you_o out_o
