the_o voice_n of_o god_n to_o look_v into_o his_o old_a course_n or_o hearken_v after_o a_o new_a but_o present_o he_o set_v upon_o they_o even_o in_o their_o entrance_n first_o by_o present_v old_a sin_n with_o all_o their_o circumstance_n order_n of_o they_o number_n heinousness_n continuance_n long_a contempt_n etc._n etc._n to_o dismay_v they_o from_o possibiltty_a of_o conversion_n if_o they_o answer_v he_o they_o have_v more_o need_n to_o seek_v mercy_n he_o tell_v they_o it_o be_v too_o late_o god_n will_v not_o take_v the_o leave_n they_o shall_v have_v give_v he_o their_o best_a strength_n courage_n time_n etc._n etc._n or_o he_o assault_v they_o with_o their_o weakness_n of_o capacity_n or_o memory_n gift_n or_o part_n that_o they_o shall_v never_o compass_v such_o great_a thing_n learned_a wise_a man_n be_v too_o little_a for_o they_o or_o he_o discourage_v they_o with_o their_o husband_n ill_a will_n the_o loss_n of_o father_n love_n and_o land_n the_o world_n disdain_n the_o reproach_n of_o their_o old_a companion_n yea_o perhaps_o brethren_n and_o kindred_n or_o that_o the_o thing_n they_o must_v forgo_v both_o in_o liberty_n and_o lust_n be_v more_o than_o they_o can_v bear_v that_o they_o shall_v never_o endure_v the_o trouble_n of_o repentance_n and_o change_v of_o heart_n or_o at_o least_o they_o will_v be_v of_o another_o mind_n when_o charge_n and_o trouble_n come_v and_o shall_v never_o persevere_v to_o the_o end_n but_o o_o satan_n avaunt_o the_o lord_n have_v prevent_v i_o and_o draw_v i_o out_o of_o darkness_n shall_v he_o suffer_v i_o to_o perish_v in_o light_n no_o as_o thy_o first_o assault_n so_o his_o grace_n will_v be_v most_o eager_a in_o my_o entrance_n to_o hold_v
maintain_v and_o hold_v this_o right_a and_o title_n of_o thou_o think_v not_o that_o this_o spirit_n of_o grace_n and_o supplication_n be_v spend_v though_o thou_o see_v not_o god_n so_o clear_o in_o it_o for_o all_o end_n as_o thou_o desire_v yet_o give_v it_o not_o over_o thy_o sin_n have_v bind_v thou_o in_o chain_n but_o prayer_n be_v not_o bind_v rather_o it_o bind_v the_o lord_n by_o suppliant_n at_o once_o a_o thousand_o to_o he_o be_v as_o one_o and_o one_o as_o a_o thousand_o beware_v of_o atheism_n in_o this_o kind_n second_o go_v in_o the_o lord_n jesus_n by_o a_o promise_n have_v thy_o want_n in_o a_o readiness_n and_o thy_o faith_n on_o wing_n let_v not_o thy_o course_n in_o pray_v issue_n from_o a_o formal_a platform_n though_o i_o judge_v not_o any_o man_n for_o read_v a_o prayer_n but_o a_o lively_a feel_n and_o humble_a pinch_v of_o soul_n for_o thy_o necessity_n three_o shake_v off_o all_o extremity_n of_o a_o corrupt_a heart_n by_o faith_n which_o must_v hold_v thy_o eye_n fix_v upon_o thy_o mediator_n by_o his_o spirit_n uphold_v thy_o faintness_n and_o groan_v within_o thou_o against_o all_o thy_o presumption_n commonness_n dulness_n deadness_n coldness_n and_o beseech_v the_o lord_n to_o stir_v thou_o up_o to_o pray_v as_o he_o shall_v suggest_v unto_o thou_o by_o the_o present_a occasion_n well_o digest_v either_o for_o the_o church_n other_o or_o thyself_o tie_v thy_o self_n to_o no_o punctualnesse_n but_o as_o the_o holy_a man_n in_o scripture_n have_v do_v so_o let_v confession_n sometime_o go_v before_o or_o follow_v prayer_n and_o either_o of_o both_o thanksgiving_n come_v not_o to_o the_o lord_n with_o either_o a_o heart_n moil_a and_o lower_v with_o discontent_n without_o faith_n or_o bold_a and_o venturous_a without_o humiliation_n but_o let_v both_o have_v their_o due_a weight_n if_o thou_o will_v be_v heavenly_a in_o prayer_n first_o abase_v thyself_o as_o a_o worm_n dust_n and_o ash_n yea_o as_o master_n bradford_n hell_n and_o the_o sinke-hole_n before_o the_o lord_n who_o be_v heaven_n and_o holiness_n if_o the_o lord_n have_v any_o special_a draught_n for_o thy_o net_n he_o will_v put_v thou_o out_o of_o conceit_n with_o thy_o own_o art_n and_o thyself_o as_o peter_n be_v when_o he_o have_v toil_v all_o night_n and_o catch_v nothing_o emptiness_n be_v the_o only_a raiser_n of_o our_o mind_n in_o prayer_n oh_o how_o hard_o be_v it_o to_o get_v and_o then_o second_o by_o faith_n be_v quicken_v to_o wait_v for_o 〈◊〉_d answer_n these_o two_o will_v fill_v thou_o with_o heavenly_a affection_n and_o rid_v thou_o of_o thy_o own_o invention_n manner_n and_o end_n four_o add_v these_o meet_a quality_n of_o prayer_n viz._n fervent_a importunity_n as_o one_o who_o god_n can_v be_v rid_v of_o till_o thou_o speed_v and_o frequency_n as_o have_v speed_v well_o already_o if_o in_o prayer_n thou_o find_v little_a stir_v know_v it_o be_v not_o because_o prayer_n be_v not_o god_n ordinance_n but_o he_o will_v try_v whether_o form_n and_o the_o work_n do_v be_v not_o above_o spirit_n and_o faith_n in_o thou_o if_o they_o be_v not_o persist_v and_o go_v against_o the_o edge_n of_o thy_o own_o deadness_n rest_v in_o that_o measure_n glad_o which_o the_o lord_n see_v best_a for_o in_o this_o case_n thou_o will_v pray_v often_o as_o 2_o cor._n 12.10_o five_o and_o above_o all_o come_v not_o to_o pray_v with_o any_o taint_a know_a sin_n i_o say_v not_o only_o gross_a but_o even_o secret_a and_o close_a through_o a_o lazy_a heart_n loath_a to_o cast_v they_o off_o or_o a_o loose_a heart_n love_v they_o better_o than_o the_o thing_n thou_o pray_v for_o lest_o the_o lord_n just_o leave_v thou_o to_o be_v wearisome_a to_o he_o and_o thyself_o cast_v out_o thy_o wrath_n and_o earth_n and_o disdain_n and_o censure_n and_o uncharitableness_n yea_o let_v thy_o pray_a awe_n thou_o against_o they_o ere_o thou_o pray_v that_o it_o may_v arm_v thou_o when_o thou_o have_v do_v till_o prayer_n become_v thy_o familiar_a friend_n &_o bring_v thou_o into_o acquaintance_n with_o god_n for_o a_o supply_n of_o want_n pardon_v of_o daily_a sin_n help_v for_o all_o duty_n of_o grace_v in_o they_o who_o otherwise_o want_v not_o knowledge_n surely_n either_o giddiness_n of_o mind_n or_o unsavourinesse_n of_o spirit_n the_o former_a like_o a_o sieve_n out_o of_o the_o water_n lose_v all_o it_o get_v suffer_v nothing_o either_o truth_n hear_v or_o work_v see_v to_o abide_v long_o in_o the_o heart_n but_o meditation_n settle_v they_o in_o the_o spirit_n that_o they_o leak_n not_o out_o heb._n 2.1_o thus_o the_o life_n of_o a_o thousand_o sermon_n of_o mercy_n and_o occasion_n be_v preserve_v in_o stead_n of_o the_o latter_a it_o season_v the_o heart_n with_o the_o sap_n the_o life_n the_o savour_n of_o good_a thing_n they_o be_v not_o heap_n upon_o heap_n leave_v we_o a_o thirst_n but_o we_o drink_v of_o they_o digest_v they_o and_o make_v our_o soul_n merry_a with_o they_o even_o as_o a_o envious_a man_n so_o long_a chew_n the_o cud_n of_o his_o malice_n in_o his_o bed_n till_o he_o have_v het_fw-mi his_o heart_n and_o devise_v revenge_n so_o be_v meditation_n a_o real_a grace_n on_o the_o contrary_a and_o whet_v upon_o the_o promise_n and_o work_n of_o god_n till_o it_o be_v fire_v with_o the_o love_n of_o they_o again_o it_o make_v the_o meaning_n view_n scope_n and_o order_n both_o of_o particular_a doctrine_n and_o the_o whole_a frame_n of_o religion_n to_o become_v our_o own_o and_o last_o we_o come_v hereby_o to_o the_o ease_n of_o practice_n the_o fruit_n hereof_o experience_n so_o that_o if_o once_o we_o have_v find_v cross_n to_o do_v we_o good_a we_o fear_v not_o when_o new_a one_o approach_n if_o we_o have_v feel_v the_o gain_n of_o a_o sabbath_n we_o get_v a_o delight_n therein_o in_o a_o word_n whatsoever_o be_v easy_a it_o become_v sweet_a and_o therefore_o if_o this_o be_v worth_a somewhat_o to_o find_v the_o yoke_n of_o god_n easy_a and_o his_o burden_n light_n as_o to_o say_v the_o truth_n it_o be_v the_o upshot_n of_o goodness_n well_o may_v we_o then_o say_v meditation_n be_v a_o divine_a help_n to_o a_o good_a course_n oh_o how_o it_o be_v to_o be_v lament_v that_o man_n know_v it_o not_o they_o get_v no_o matter_n to_o chew_v upon_o they_o separate_v not_o themselves_o to_o it_o think_v they_o may_v meditate_v while_o they_o â—e_v at_o work_n they_o do_v not_o curb_v their_o wild_a and_o wander_a heart_n from_o other_o object_n and_o so_o this_o piece_n of_o god_n worship_n be_v irksome_a unto_o they_o thus_o much_o for_o a_o taste_n of_o some_o of_o the_o private_a q._n but_o be_v the_o extraordinary_a help_n so_o too_o a._n there_o need_v be_v the_o less_o question_n of_o that_o because_o as_o their_o nature_n be_v more_o solemn_a so_o be_v their_o use_n if_o they_o be_v attend_v according_o and_o first_o that_o of_o fast_v of_o which_o i_o say_v this_o that_o if_o we_o esteem_v that_o receipt_n above_o all_o which_o do_v cure_v a_o disease_n that_o no_o other_o medicine_n can_v then_o sure_o fast_v deserve_v account_v our_o saviour_n tell_v we_o this_o kind_n of_o devil_n go_v
