we_o say_v if_o thou_o will_v live_v to_o god_n thou_o must_v be_v utter_o dead_a to_o the_o law_n man_n reason_n and_o wisdom_n understand_v not_o this_o doctrine_n therefore_o it_o teach_v always_o the_o contrary_a that_o be_v if_o thou_o will_v live_v unto_o god_n thou_o must_v keep_v the_o law_n for_o it_o be_v write_v do_v this_o and_o thou_o shall_v live_v divine_n and_o this_o be_v a_o whether_o it_o be_v ceremonial_a or_o moral_a which_o to_o a_o christian_a be_v utter_o abrogate_v abrogate_a for_o he_o be_v dead_a unto_o it_o not_o that_o the_o law_n be_v utter_o take_v away_o nay_o it_o remain_v live_v and_o reign_v still_o in_o the_o wicked_a but_o a_o godly_a man_n be_v dead_a unto_o the_o law_n like_a as_o he_o be_v dead_a unto_o sin_n the_o devil_n death_n and_o hell_n which_o notwithstanding_o do_v still_o remain_v and_o the_o world_n with_o all_o the_o wicked_a shall_v still_o abide_v in_o they_o wherefore_o when_o the_o papist_n understand_v that_o the_o which_o christ_n lie_v dead_a after_o that_o he_o be_v rise_v again_o be_v void_a and_o empty_a and_o christ_n vanish_v away_o so_o when_o i_o believe_v in_o christ_n i_o rise_v again_o with_o he_o and_o die_v to_o my_o grave_n that_o be_v to_o say_v the_o law_n which_o hold_v i_o captive_a so_o that_o now_o the_o law_n be_v void_a and_o i_o be_o escape_v out_o of_o my_o prison_n and_o grave_n that_o be_v to_o say_v the_o law_n wherefore_o the_o law_n have_v no_o right_a to_o accuse_v i_o or_o to_o hold_v i_o any_o long_o for_o i_o be_o rise_v again_o it_o be_v necessary_a that_o man_n live_v to_o christ_n law_n with_o who_o i_o be_o under_o a_o other_o law_n to_o wit_n the_o law_n of_o grace_n which_o rule_v over_o sin_n and_o the_o law_n by_o what_o mean_n by_o faith_n in_o christ_n as_o paul_n declare_v hereafter_o but_o this_o seem_v a_o strange_a and_o a_o wonderful_a definition_n that_o to_o live_v to_o the_o law_n be_v to_o die_v to_o god_n and_o to_o die_v to_o the_o law_n be_v to_o live_v to_o god_n
so_o that_o the_o word_n be_v not_o only_o my_o voice_n but_o may_v be_v hear_v of_o thou_o and_o may_v enter_v into_o thy_o heart_n and_o be_v believe_v of_o thou_o then_o be_v it_o true_o and_o in_o deed_n the_o hear_n of_o faith_n through_o the_o which_o thou_o receiv_v the_o holy_a ghost_n which_o after_o thou_o have_v once_o receive_v thou_o shall_v also_o mortify_v thy_o flesh_n the_o faithful_a do_v find_v by_o their_o own_o experience_n how_o glad_o they_o will_v hold_v and_o embrace_v the_o word_n when_o they_o hear_v it_o with_o a_o full_a faith_n and_o abandon_v this_o opinion_n of_o the_o law_n and_o of_o their_o own_o righteousness_n godly_a but_o they_o feel_v in_o their_o flesh_n a_o mighty_a resistance_n against_o the_o spirit_n for_o reason_n and_o the_o everlasting_a be_v promise_v unto_o we_o but_o come_v once_o to_o a_o earnest_a trial_n thereof_o and_o then_o tell_v i_o how_o easy_a a_o thing_n it_o be_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n of_o faith_n in_o work_n of_o the_o law_n but_o through_o the_o preach_n of_o faith_n he_o begin_v here_o to_o exhort_v the_o galatian_n and_o to_o terrify_v they_o from_o a_o double_a danger_n and_o incommodity_n the_o first_o be_v be_v you_o so_o foolish_a that_o after_o you_o have_v begone_v in_o the_o spirit_n you_o will_v now_o end_v in_o the_o flesh_n the_o other_o follow_v have_v you_o suffer_v so_o spirit_n be_v whatsoever_o be_v do_v in_o we_o through_o the_o spirit_n the_o flesh_n flesh_n whatsoever_o be_v do_v in_o we_o according_a to_o the_o flesh_n without_o the_o spirit_n wherefore_o all_o the_o duty_n of_o a_o christian_a man_n as_o to_o love_v his_o wife_n to_o bring_v up_o his_o child_n to_o govern_v his_o family_n and_o such_o like_a carnal_a which_o unto_o they_o be_v worldly_a and_o work_n but_o in_o the_o spiritual_a divine_a and_o heavenly_a righteousness_n we_o must_v utter_o reject_v all_o law_n and_o work_n and_o set_v the_o only_a promise_n and_o blessing_n before_o our_o eye_n which_o lay_v before_o we_o christ_n the_o giver_n of_o this_o blessing_n and_o of_o grace_n and_o our_o only_a saviour_n so_o that_o this_o spiritual_a righteousness_n seclude_v the_o law_n and_o all_o work_n look_v only_o unto_o the_o grace_n and_o blessing_n which_o be_v give_v by_o christ_n as_o it_o be_v promise_v to_o abraham_n and_o of_o he_o believe_v hereby_o we_o may_v plain_o see_v that_o this_o argument_n be_v invincible_a for_o if_o we_o must_v hope_v to_o receive_v this_o blessing_n by_o christ_n alone_o than_o it_o must_v needs_o follow_v of_o the_o contrary_a that_o it_o be_v not_o receive_v by_o the_o law_n for_o the_o blessing_n be_v give_v to_o faithful_a abraham_n before_o the_o law_n and_o without_o the_o law_n now_o like_v as_o abraham_n believe_v in_o christ_n to_o come_v the_o giver_n of_o the_o blessing_n so_o and_o by_o the_o same_o faith_n we_o believe_v in_o christ_n be_v come_v and_o so_o be_v we_o now_o justify_v by_o faith_n as_o abraham_n be_v then_o iusty_v by_o faith_n they_o therefore_o which_o be_v under_o the_o law_n be_v not_o bless_v but_o do_v remain_v under_o the_o curse_n this_o the_o pope_n and_o his_o proud_a righteousness_n and_o life_n but_o sin_n death_n the_o wrath_n and_o judgement_n of_o god_n for_o as_o in_o the_o mount_n sina_n the_o thunder_a lightning_n the_o thick_a &_o dark_a cloud_n the_o hill_n smoke_v &_o flame_v &_o all_o that_o terrible_a show_n do_v not_o rejoice_v nor_o quicken_v the_o child_n of_o israel_n but_o terrify_v and_o astonish_v they_o and_o show_v how_o unable_a they_o be_v with_o all_o their_o purity_n and_o holiness_n to_o abide_v the_o majesty_n of_o god_n speak_v to_o they_o out_o of_o the_o cloud_n even_o so_o the_o law_n terrefi_v when_o it_o be_v in_o his_o true_a use_n do_v nothing_o else_o but_o reveal_v sin_n engender_v wrath_n accuse_v and_o terrify_v man_n so_o that_o it_o bring_v they_o to_o the_o very_a brink_n of_o desperation_n this_o be_v and_o other_o know_v it_o not_o brief_o there_o be_v wonderful_a silence_n many_o year_n as_o touch_v this_o difference_n in_o all_o school_n and_o church_n and_o this_o thing_n bring_v man_n conscience_n into_o great_a danger_n gospel_n for_o unless_o the_o gospel_n be_v plain_o discern_v from_o the_o law_n the_o true_a christian_a doctrine_n can_v not_o be_v keep_v sound_n and_o uncorrupt_a contrariwise_o if_o this_o difference_n be_v well_o know_v then_o be_v also_o the_o true_a mean_a of_o justification_n know_v and_o then_o be_v it_o a_o easy_a matter_n to_o discern_v faith_n from_o work_n christ_n from_o moses_n and_o all_o politic_a work_n for_o all_o thing_n without_o christ_n be_v the_o minister_n of_o death_n for_o the_o punishment_n of_o the_o wicked_a therefore_o paul_n answer_v to_o this_o question_n after_o this_o manner_n verse_n 19_o the_o law_n be_v add_v because_o of_o transgression_n that_o be_v to_o say_v that_o transgression_n may_v be_v more_o increase_v know_v and_o see_v and_o in_o deed_n so_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v for_o when_o sin_n be_v reveal_v to_o a_o man_n through_o the_o law_n death_n the_o wrath_n and_o judgement_n of_o be_v shut_v under_o sin_n it_o follow_v that_o all_o nation_n be_v accurse_v and_o be_v destitute_a of_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n also_o that_o they_o be_v under_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n and_o the_o power_n of_o the_o devil_n and_o that_o no_o man_n can_v be_v deliver_v from_o they_o by_o any_o other_o mean_v then_o by_o faith_n in_o jesus_n christ_n with_o these_o word_n therefore_o paul_n fight_v strong_o against_o the_o fantastical_a opinion_n of_o the_o papist_n and_o all_o justiciary_n touch_v the_o law_n and_o work_n when_o he_o say_v that_o the_o promise_n by_o faith_n in_o jesus_n christ_n may_v be_v give_v to_o all_o believer_n now_o how_o we_o shall_v answer_v to_o those_o sentence_n which_o speak_v of_o work_n and_o the_o reward_n thereof_o i_o have_v sufficient_o declare_v before_o and_o the_o matter_n require_v not_o now_o that_o we_o shall_v speak_v any_o thing_n of_o work_n work_n for_o we_o have_v not_o here_o take_v in_o hand_n to_o entreat_v of_o work_n but_o of_o justification_n to_o wit_n that_o it_o be_v not_o obtain_v by_o the_o law_n and_o work_n since_o all_o thing_n be_v shut_v under_o sin_n and_o under_o the_o curse_n but_o by_o faith_n in_o christ_n justification_n when_o we_o be_v out_o of_o the_o matter_n of_o justification_n we_o can_v not_o sufficient_o praise_v and_o magnify_v those_o work_n which_o be_v command_v of_o god_n for_o who_o can_v sufficient_o commend_v and_o set_v forth_o the_o profit_n &_o fruit_n of_o one_o only_a work_n which_o a_o christian_a do_v through_o faith_n and_o in_o faith_n in_o deed_n it_o be_v more_o precious_a than_o heaven_n or_o earth_n the_o whole_a world_n therefore_o be_v not_o able_a to_o geve_v a_o worthy_a recompense_n to_o such_o a_o good_a work_n yea_o the_o world_n have_v not_o the_o grace_n to_o magnify_v the_o holy_a work_n of_o the_o faithful_a as_o they_o be_v worthy_a
and_o a_o carnal_a liberty_n to_o do_v what_o so_o ever_o they_o listen_v these_o as_o peter_n say_v have_v the_o liberty_n of_o the_o spirit_n as_o a_o cloak_n of_o maliciousness_n through_o which_o the_o name_n of_o god_n and_o the_o gospel_n of_o christ_n be_v slander_v every_o where_o and_o therefore_o they_o shall_v once_o suffer_v worthy_a punishment_n for_o this_o their_o ungodliness_n three_o such_o do_v also_o abuse_v the_o law_n who_o feel_v the_o terror_n thereof_o do_v not_o understand_v that_o such_o terror_n ought_v no_o long_o to_o continue_v but_o unto_o christ_n this_o abuse_n in_o they_o be_v the_o cause_n that_o they_o fall_v to_o desperation_n as_o in_o the_o hypocrite_n it_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o arrogancy_n and_o presumption_n contrariwise_o worthy_a the_o true_a use_n of_o the_o law_n can_v never_o be_v esteem_v and_o magnify_v as_o it_o be_v worthy_a namely_o that_o when_o the_o conscience_n shut_v up_o under_o the_o law_n despair_v not_o but_o be_v instruct_v by_o the_o wisdom_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n conclude_v with_o itself_o after_o this_o sort_n i_o be_o in_o deed_n shut_v up_o as_o a_o prisoner_n under_o the_o law_n but_o not_o for_o ever_o yea_o this_o shut_n up_o shall_v turn_v to_o my_o great_a profit_n how_o so_o because_o that_o i_o be_v thus_o shut_v up_o shall_v be_v drive_v to_o sigh_v and_o seek_v the_o hand_n of_o a_o helper_n etc_n etc_n after_o this_o manner_n the_o law_n be_v as_o a_o enforcer_n which_o by_o compulsion_n bring_v the_o hungry_a unto_o christ_n law_n that_o he_o may_v satisfy_v they_o with_o his_o good_a thing_n wherefore_o the_o true_a office_n of_o the_o law_n be_v to_o show_v unto_o we_o our_o sin_n to_o make_v we_o guilty_a to_o humble_v we_o to_o kill_v we_o and_o to_o bring_v we_o down_o to_o hell_n and_o final_o to_o take_v from_o we_o all_o help_n all_o succour_n all_o comfort_n but_o yet_o altogether_o to_o this_o end_n that_o we_o may_v be_v justify_v exalt_v quicken_v to_o life_n carry_v up_o into_o heaven_n and_o obtain_v all_o good_a thing_n therefore_o it_o do_v not_o only_o kill_v but_o it_o kill_v that_o we_o may_v live_v verse_n 24._o wherefore_o the_o law_n be_v our_o conjecture_v what_o affection_n the_o jew_n bear_v to_o their_o moses_n and_o how_o zealous_o they_o perform_v that_o which_o he_o command_v in_o deed_n such_o be_v their_o love_n and_o obedience_n he_o be_v beat_v be_v not_o this_o i_o pray_v you_o a_o goodly_a righteousness_n and_o obedience_n of_o the_o scholar_n that_o he_o obey_v his_o master_n so_o severe_o threaten_v and_o so_o sharp_o the_o fire_n and_o if_o he_o have_v any_o power_n over_o his_o master_n he_o will_v not_o suffer_v himself_o to_o be_v beat_v of_o his_o master_n but_o rather_o he_o will_v beat_v he_o and_o yet_o notwithstanding_o the_o schoolmaster_n be_v very_o necessary_a for_o the_o child_n to_o enstruct_v and_o to_o chastise_v he_o otherwise_o the_o child_n without_o this_o discipline_n instruction_n and_o good_a education_n shall_v be_v utter_o lose_v the_o schoolmaster_n therefore_o be_v appoint_v for_o the_o child_n to_o teach_v he_o to_o bring_v he_o up_o child_n &_o to_o keep_v he_o as_o it_o be_v in_o prison_n but_o to_o what_o end_n or_o how_o long_o be_v it_o to_o the_o end_n that_o this_o strait_a and_o sharp_a deal_n of_o the_o schoolmaster_n shall_v always_o continue_v or_o that_o the_o child_n shall_v remain_v in_o continual_a bondage_n not_o so_o but_o only_o for_o a_o time_n that_o this_o obedience_n this_o prison_n and_o correction_n may_v turn_v to_o the_o profit_n of_o do_v who_o calling_n be_v uncertain_a and_o doctrine_n corrupt_v this_o be_v then_o our_o comfort_n which_o be_v in_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o word_n that_o we_o have_v a_o office_n which_o be_v young_a divine_a and_o teacher_n i_o think_v paul_n do_v unwise_o in_o glory_v so_o oft_o of_o his_o call_n in_o all_o his_o epistle_n but_o i_o do_v not_o understand_v his_o purpose_n for_o i_o know_v not_o that_o the_o ministry_n of_o god_n word_n be_v so_o weighty_a a_o matter_n i_o know_v nothing_o of_o the_o doctrine_n of_o faith_n and_o a_o true_a conscience_n in_o deed_n place_n for_o be_v able_a to_o understand_v the_o dignity_n and_o power_n of_o this_o holy_a and_o spiritual_a boast_n of_o the_o true_a &_o lawful_a call_n which_o serve_v first_o to_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o second_o to_o the_o advance_n of_o our_o office_n and_o moreover_o to_o the_o salvation_n of_o ourselves_o and_o of_o the_o people_n for_o by_o this_o our_o boast_n we_o seek_v not_o estimation_n in_o the_o world_n call_n or_o praise_v among_o man_n or_o money_n or_o pleasure_n or_o favour_n of_o the_o world_n but_o for_o as_o much_o as_o we_o be_v in_o a_o divine_a call_n and_o in_o the_o work_n of_o god_n and_o the_o people_n have_v great_a need_n to_o be_v assure_v of_o our_o call_n that_o they_o may_v know_v our_o word_n to_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n therefore_o we_o proud_o vaunt_v and_o boast_v of_o it_o it_o be_v not_o then_o a_o vain_a pride_n but_o a_o most_o holy_a pride_n against_o the_o devil_n and_o the_o world_n and_o true_a humility_n before_o god._n any_o comfort_n for_o it_o be_v not_o in_o the_o power_n of_o man_n to_o shake_v of_o these_o horrible_a terror_n which_o the_o law_n stir_v up_o in_o the_o conscience_n or_o any_o other_o anguish_n or_o bitterness_n of_o spirit_n 6.5_o hereof_o come_v these_o lamentable_a complaint_n of_o the_o saint_n which_o be_v every_o where_o in_o the_o psalm_n in_o hell_n who_o shall_v confess_v thou_o etc_n etc_n for_o then_o be_v a_o man_n shut_v up_o in_o prison_n out_o of_o the_o which_o he_o can_v not_o escape_v nor_o see_v how_o he_o may_v be_v deliver_v out_o of_o these_o bond_n that_o be_v we_o be_v so_o terrify_v and_o humble_v we_o may_v learn_v to_o know_v our_o own_o misery_n and_o condemnation_n and_o this_o be_v the_o true_a and_o the_o proper_a use_n of_o the_o law_n so_o that_o it_o be_v not_o perpetual_a for_o this_o shut_n and_o hold_v under_o the_o law_n must_v endure_v no_o long_o but_o until_o faith_n come_v and_o when_o faith_n come_v then_o must_v this_o spiritual_a prison_n have_v his_o end_n together_o here_o again_o we_o see_v that_o although_o the_o law_n and_o the_o gospel_n be_v separate_v far_o asunder_o yet_o as_o touch_v the_o inward_a affection_n they_o be_v very_o near_o join_v the_o one_o to_o the_o other_o this_o paul_n show_v when_o he_o say_v we_o be_v keep_v under_o the_o la_o and_o shut_v up_o unto_o the_o faith_n which_o shall_v be_v reveal_v unto_o us._n wherefore_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o that_o we_o be_v shut_v under_o the_o law_n for_o if_o nothing_o else_o shall_v follow_v we_o shall_v be_v drive_v to_o desperation_n and_o die_v in_o our_o sin_n continual_a but_o paul_n add_v moreover_o that_o we_o be_v shut_v up_o and_o keep_v under_o a_o schoolmaster_n which_o be_v the_o law_n not_o for_o ever_o but_o to_o bring_v we_o unto_o christ_n who_o be_v the_o end_n of_o the_o law_n therefore_o this_o terrify_n this_o humble_v and_o this_o shut_n up_o must_v not_o always_o continue_v but_o only_o until_o faith_n be_v reveal_v that_o be_v it_o shall_v so_o long_o continue_v as_o shall_v be_v for_o our_o profit_n and_o our_o salvation_n so_o that_o when_o we_o be_v cast_v down_o and_o humble_v by_o the_o law_n than_o grace_n remission_n of_o sin_n deliverance_n from_o the_o law_n sin_n and_o death_n may_v become_v sweet_a unto_o we_o which_o be_v not_o obtain_v by_o work_n but_o be_v receive_v by_o faith_n alone_o he_o which_o in_o time_n of_o tentation_n can_v join_v these_o two_o thing_n together_o so_o repugnant_a and_o contrary_a that_o be_v to_o say_v which_o when_o he_o be_v thorough_o terrify_v and_o cast_v down_o by_o the_o law_n right_o do_v know_v that_o the_o end_n of_o the_o law_n and_o the_o beginning_n of_o grace_n or_o of_o faith_n which_o be_v to_o be_v reveal_v be_v now_o come_v use_v the_o law_n right_o all_o the_o wicked_a be_v utter_o ignorant_a of_o this_o knowledge_n and_o this_o cunning_a cain_n know_v it_o not_o when_o he_o be_v shut_v up_o in_o the_o prison_n of_o the_o law_n that_o be_v he_o feel_v no_o terror_n 4.9_o although_o he_o have_v now_o kill_v his_o brother_n but_o dissemble_v the_o matter_n crafty_o and_o think_v that_o god_n be_v ignorant_a thereof_o be_o i_o up_o that_o in_o the_o wide_a world_n it_o can_v find_v no_o place_n where_o it_o may_v be_v in_o safety_n yea_o as_o long_a as_o these_o terror_n endure_v the_o conscience_n feel_v such_o anguish_n and_o sorrow_n that_o it_o think_v heaven_n and_o earth_n yea_o if_o they_o be_v ten_o time_n more_o wide_a and_o large_a than_o they_o be_v to_o be_v straight_a and_o narrow_a than_o a_o mouse_n hole_n here_o be_v a_o man_n utter_o destitute_a of_o all_o wisdom_n strength_n righteousness_n counsel_n and_o succour_v for_o the_o conscience_n be_v a_o marvellous_a tender_a thing_n conscience_n and_o therefore_o when_o it_o be_v so_o shut_v up_o under_o the_o prison_n of_o the_o law_n it_o see_v no_o way_n how_o to_o get_v out_o and_o this_o straitness_n seem_v daily_o so_o to_o increase_v as_o though_o it_o will_v never_o have_v a_o end_n for_o than_o do_v it_o feel_v the_o wrath_n of_o god_n which_o be_v infinite_a and_o inestimable_a who_o hand_n he_o can_v not_o escape_v as_o the_o psalm_n 139._o witness_v 139.7_o whether_o shall_v i_o fly_v from_o thy_o presence_n etc_n etc_n like_a as_o therefore_o this_o worldly_a prison_n or_o shut_v up_o be_v a_o bodily_a affliction_n spiritual_o and_o he_o that_o be_v so_o shut_v up_o can_v have_v no_o use_n of_o his_o body_n even_o so_o the_o trouble_n and_o anguish_n of_o mind_n be_v a_o spiritual_a prison_n and_o he_o that_o be_v shut_v up_o in_o this_o prison_n can_v not_o enjoy_v the_o quietness_n of_o heart_n and_o peace_n of_o conscience_n and_o yet_o be_v it_o not_o so_o for_o ever_o as_o reason_n judge_v when_o it_o feel_v this_o prison_n but_o until_o faith_n be_v reveal_v the_o silly_a conscience_n therefore_o must_v be_v raise_v up_o and_o comfort_v after_o this_o sort_n brother_n thou_o be_v in_o deed_n shut_v up_o law_n but_o persuade_v thyself_o that_o this_o be_v not_o do_v to_o the_o end_n that_o thou_o shall_v remain_v in_o this_o prison_n for_o ever_o for_o it_o be_v write_v that_o we_o be_v shut_v up_o unto_o the_o faith_n that_o shall_v be_v reveal_v thou_o be_v afflict_v then_o in_o this_o prison_n not_o to_o thy_o destruction_n but_o that_o thou_o may_v be_v refresh_v by_o the_o bless_a seed_n thou_o be_v kill_v by_o the_o law_n life_n that_o through_o christ_n thou_o may_v be_v quicken_v again_o and_o restore_v to_o life_n despair_v not_o therefore_o as_o cain_n saul_n and_o as_o be_v strong_a in_o christ_n will_v glad_o serve_v the_o law_n not_o the_o weak_a and_o beggarly_a but_o the_o mighty_a and_o rich_a law_n that_o be_v to_o say_v so_o far_o forth_o as_o it_o have_v power_n and_o dominion_n over_o the_o body_n for_o than_o we_o serve_v the_o law_n but_o only_o in_o our_o body_n and_o outward_a member_n and_o not_o in_o our_o conscience_n but_o the_o pope_n require_v that_o we_o shall_v obey_v his_o law_n with_o this_o persuasion_n that_o if_o we_o do_v this_o or_o that_o we_o be_v righteteous_a if_o we_o do_v it_o not_o we_o be_v damn_v here_o the_o law_n be_v more_o than_o a_o weak_a and_o beggarly_a element_n for_o while_o this_o bondage_n of_o the_o conscience_n continue_v under_o the_o law_n there_o can_v be_v nothing_o but_o mere_a weakness_n and_o poverty_n wherefore_o all_o the_o weight_n of_o the_o matter_n lie_v in_o this_o word_n to_o serve_v the_o meaning_n therefore_o of_o paul_n be_v this_o that_o he_o will_v not_o have_v the_o conscience_n to_o serve_v under_o the_o law_n as_o a_o captive_a but_o to_o be_v free_a and_o to_o have_v dominion_n over_o the_o law_n for_o the_o conscience_n be_v dead_a to_o the_o law_n through_o christ_n and_o the_o law_n again_o unto_o the_o conscience_n whereof_o we_o have_v more_o large_o entreat_v afore_o in_o the_o second_o chapter_n verse_n 10._o you_o observe_v day_n and_o pervert_v by_o the_o wicked_a doctrine_n of_o the_o sectary_n they_o show_v themselves_o more_o bitter_a enemy_n to_o our_o doctrine_n &_o our_o name_n then_o any_o other_o i_o do_v much_o and_o often_o marvel_v whereupon_o they_o shall_v conceive_v such_o a_o deadly_a hatred_n against_o we_o who_o they_o before_o so_o dear_o and_o so_o tender_o love_v for_o we_o offend_v they_o not_o in_o number_a of_o such_o exaction_n our_o countryman_n be_v now_o deliver_v by_o the_o gospel_n but_o so_o far_o of_o be_v it_o that_o they_o be_v thankful_a unto_o god_n for_o this_o liberty_n that_o of_o prodigal_a giver_n they_o be_v now_o become_v stark_a thief_n and_o robber_n &_o will_v not_o bestow_v one_o farthing_n upon_o the_o gospel_n or_o the_o minister_n thereof_o or_o geve_v any_o thing_n for_o the_o relief_n and_o succour_n of_o the_o poor_a saint_n which_o be_v a_o certain_a token_n that_o they_o have_v lose_v both_o the_o word_n and_o faith_n and_o that_o they_o have_v no_o spiritual_a goodness_n in_o they_o for_o it_o be_v impossible_a that_o such_o as_o be_v godly_a in_o deed_n shall_v suffer_v their_o pastor_n to_o live_v in_o necessity_n &_o penury_n but_o for_o as_o much_o as_o they_o laugh_v and_o rejoice_v when_o their_o pastor_n suffer_v any_o adversity_n and_o withhold_v their_o live_n or_o geve_v it_o not_o with_o such_o faithfulness_n as_o they_o ought_v it_o be_v a_o plain_a token_n that_o they_o be_v worse_o than_o the_o heathen_a but_o they_o shall_v feel_v ere_o it_o be_v long_o what_o calamity_n will_v follow_v this_o unthankfulness_n unthankfulness_n for_o they_o shall_v lose_v both_o temporal_a &_o spiritual_a thing_n for_o this_o sin_n must_v needs_o be_v grievous_o punish_v and_o certain_o i_o think_v that_o the_o church_n in_o galatia_n corinth_n and_o other_o place_n be_v so_o trouble_v by_o the_o false_a apostle_n for_o no_o other_o cause_n but_o for_o that_o they_o little_o regard_v their_o true_a pastor_n &_o preacher_n for_o it_o be_v good_a reason_n that_o he_o which_o refuse_v to_o geve_v a_o penny_n to_o god_n who_o offer_v unto_o he_o all_o good_a thing_n &_o life_n everlasting_a shall_v geve_v a_o piece_n of_o gold_n to_o the_o devil_n the_o author_n of_o all_o evil_n &_o death_n everlasting_a who_o so_o will_v not_o serve_v god_n in_o a_o little_a &_o that_o to_o his_o own_o inestimable_a benefit_n let_v he_o serve_v that_o devil_n in_o much_o to_o his_o extreme_a &_o utter_a confusion_n now_o therefore_o since_o the_o light_n of_o the_o gospel_n begin_v to_o shine_v we_o see_v what_o the_o devil_n be_v &_o what_o the_o world_n be_v thing_n in_o that_o he_o say_v in_o all_o his_o good_n it_o be_v not_o so_o to_o be_v take_v that_o all_o man_n be_v bind_v to_o geve_v all_o that_o they_o have_v to_o their_o minister_n but_o that_o they_o shall_v maintain_v they_o liberal_o and_o geve_v they_o that_o whereby_o they_o may_v be_v well_o able_a to_o live_v verse_n 7._o be_v not_o deceive_v for_o god_n be_v not_o mock_v the_o apostle_n prosecute_v this_o place_n of_o the_o nourish_a and_o maintain_v of_o minister_n so_o earnest_o that_o to_o his_o former_a reprehension_n and_o exhortation_n he_o add_v now_o also_o a_o threaten_a say_v god_n be_v not_o mock_v and_o here_o he_o touch_v to_o the_o quick_a the_o property_n of_o our_o country_n man_n which_o proud_o despise_v our_o ministry_n game_n minister_n and_o therefore_o they_o go_v about_o especial_o the_o gentleman_n to_o make_v their_o pastor_n subject_a unto_o they_o like_o servant_n and_o slave_n and_o if_o we_o have_v not_o so_o godly_a a_o prince_n and_o one_o that_o so_o love_v the_o truth_n they_o have_v ere_o this_o time_n drive_v we_o out_o of_o the_o country_n when_o the_o pastor_n ask_v their_o duty_n or_o complain_v that_o they_o suffer_v penury_n they_o cry_v out_o the_o priest_n be_v covetous_a they_o will_v have_v plenty_n no_o man_n be_v able_a to_o satisfy_v their_o unsatiable_a covetousness_n if_o they_o be_v true_a gospeler_n they_o shall_v have_v nothing_o of_o their_o own_o but_o as_o poor_a man_n ought_v to_o follow_v poor_a christ_n &_o to_o suffer_v all_o adversity_n etc_n etc_n paul_n horrible_o threaten_v here_o such_o tyrant_n &_o such_o mocker_n of_o god_n who_o so_o careless_o &_o proud_o do_v scorn_v the_o miserable_a preacher_n and_o yet_o will_v seem_v to_o be_v gospeler_n and_o not_o to_o be_v mocker_n of_o god_n but_o to_o worship_v he_o very_o devout_o be_v not_o deceive_v say_v he_o god_n be_v not_o mock_v that_o be_v to_o say_v he_o do_v not_o suffer_v himself_o to_o be_v mock_v in_o his_o minister_n for_o he_o say_v he_o that_o despise_v you_o despise_v i_o â—6_o also_o he_o say_v unto_o samuel_n they_o have_v not_o cast_v thou_o away_o but_o i_o 8.7_o therefore_o oh_o you_o mocker_n although_o god_n differre_fw-la his_o punishment_n for_o a_o season_n yet_o when_o he_o see_v time_n he_o will_v find_v you_o out_o and_o will_v punish_v this_o hunger_n but_o even_o when_o the_o rich_a man_n suffer_v scarcity_n and_o hunger_n he_o will_v feed_v they_o and_o in_o the_o day_n of_o famine_n they_o shall_v have_v enough_o verse_n 7._o for_o whatsoever_o a_o man_n sow_v that_o shall_v he_o reap_v all_o these_o thing_n tend_v to_o this_o purpose_n that_o minister_n shall_v be_v nourish_v and_o maintain_v for_o my_o part_n i_o do_v not_o glad_o interpret_v such_o sentence_n for_o they_o seem_v to_o commend_v we_o and_o so_o they_o do_v in_o deed_n moreover_o if_o a_o man_n stand_v much_o in_o repeat_v such_o thing_n to_o his_o hearer_n it_o have_v some_o show_n of_o covetousness_n notwithstanding_o man_n must_v be_v admonish_v hereof_o word_n that_o they_o may_v know_v that_o they_o ought_v to_o yield_v unto_o their_o pastor_n both_o reverence_n and_o a_o necessary_a live_n our_o saviour_n christ_n teach_v the_o same_o thing_n in_o the_o .10_o of_o luke_n eat_v and_o drink_v such_o thing_n as_o they_o have_v for_o the_o labourer_n be_v worthy_a of_o his_o reward_n 9.13.14_o and_o paul_n say_v in_o a_o other_o place_n do_v you_o not_o know_v that_o they_o which_o sacrifice_n in_o the_o temple_n live_v of_o the_o sacrifice_n &_o that_o they_o which_o serve_v at_o the_o altar_n be_v partaker_n of_o the_o altar_n even_o so_o have_v the_o lord_n ordain_v that_o they_o which_o preach_v the_o gospel_n shall_v live_v of_o the_o gospel_n it_o be_v good_a that_o we_o also_o which_o be_v in_o the_o ministry_n shall_v know_v these_o thing_n lest_o for_o our_o labour_n we_o may_v with_o evil_a conscience_n receive_v the_o stipend_n which_o be_v give_v unto_o we_o of_o that_o pope_n good_n and_o although_o such_o good_n be_v heap_v together_o by_o mere_a fraud_n &_o deceit_n yet_o notwithstanding_o god_n spoil_v the_o egyptian_n â—â—_o that_o be_v to_o say_v the_o papist_n of_o their_o good_n turn_v they_o here_o amongst_o we_o to_o a_o good_a and_o holy_a use_n not_o when_o noble_a man_n and_o gentleman_n spoil_v they_o and_o abuse_v they_o but_o when_o they_o which_o set_v forth_o god_n glory_n and_o bring_v up_o youth_n virtuous_o be_v maintain_v therewith_o let_v we_o know_v then_o that_o we_o may_v with_o good_a conscience_n since_o god_n have_v ordain_v and_o command_v that_o they_o which_o preach_v the_o gospel_n shall_v live_v of_o the_o gospel_n use_v those_o thing_n that_o therefore_o make_v any_o scruple_n hereof_o as_o though_o it_o be_v not_o lawful_a for_o he_o to_o use_v such_o good_n verse_n 8._o for_o he_o that_o sow_v in_o the_o flesh_n shall_v of_o the_o flesh_n reap_v corruption_n but_o he_o that_o sow_v in_o the_o spirit_n shall_v of_o the_o spirit_n reap_v everlasting_a life_n he_o add_v a_o similitude_n and_o a_o allegory_n and_o this_o general_a sentence_n of_o sow_v he_o appli_v to_o the_o particular_a matter_n of_o nourish_v and_o maintain_v the_o minister_n of_o the_o word_n say_v he_o that_o sow_v in_o the_o spirit_n spirit_n that_o be_v to_o say_v he_o that_o chearish_v the_o teacher_n of_o god_n word_n do_v a_o spiritual_a work_n and_o shall_v reap_v everlasting_a life_n here_o rise_v a_o question_n whether_o we_o deserve_v eternal_a life_n by_o good_a work_n for_o so_o paul_n seem_v to_o avouch_v in_o this_o place_n as_o touch_v such_o sentence_n which_o speak_v of_o work_n and_o the_o reward_n of_o they_o we_o have_v treat_v very_o large_o before_o in_o the_o .5_o chapter_n and_o very_o necessary_a it_o be_v after_o the_o example_n of_o paul_n to_o exhort_v the_o faithful_a to_o good_a work_n that_o be_v to_o say_v to_o exercise_v their_o faith_n by_o good_a work_n for_o if_o they_o follow_v not_o faith_n it_o be_v a_o manifest_a token_n that_o their_o faith_n be_v no_o true_a faith_n therefore_o the_o apostle_n say_v he_o that_o sow_v in_o the_o flesh_n some_o understand_v it_o in_o his_o own_o flesh_n that_o be_v to_o say_v he_o that_o give_v nothing_o to_o the_o minister_n of_o god_n word_n but_o only_o feed_v and_o care_v for_o himself_o which_o be_v the_o counsel_n of_o the_o flesh_n that_o man_n shall_v of_o the_o flesh_n reap_v corruption_n not_o only_o in_o this_o present_a life_n but_o also_o in_o the_o life_n to_o come_v for_o the_o good_n of_o the_o wicked_a shall_v waste_v away_o and_o they_o themselves_o also_o at_o length_n shall_v shameful_o perish_v the_o apostle_n will_v fain_o stir_v up_o his_o hearer_n to_o be_v liberal_a and_o beneficial_a towards_o their_o pastor_n and_o preacher_n but_o what_o a_o misery_n be_v it_o that_o the_o perverseness_n and_o ingratitude_n of_o man_n shall_v be_v so_o great_a that_o the_o church_n shall_v need_v this_o admonition_n the_o encratite_n abuse_v this_o place_n for_o the_o confirmation_n of_o their_o wicked_a opinion_n against_o marriage_n expound_v it_o after_o this_o manner_n encratites_n he_o that_o sow_v in_o the_o flesh_n shall_v reap_v corruption_n that_o be_v to_o say_v he_o that_o marry_v a_o wife_n shall_v be_v damn_v ergo_fw-la a_o wife_n be_v a_o damnable_a thing_n and_o marriage_n be_v evil_a for_o as_o much_o as_o there_o be_v in_o it_o a_o sow_v in_o the_o flesh_n these_o beast_n be_v so_o destitute_a of_o all_o judgement_n that_o they_o perceive_v not_o whereabout_o the_o apostle_n go_v i_o speak_v this_o to_o the_o end_n you_o may_v see_v how_o easy_o the_o devil_n by_o his_o minister_n can_v turn_v away_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o simple_a from_o the_o truth_n germany_n shall_v short_o have_v a_o infinite_a number_n of_o such_o beast_n yea_o and_o already_o have_v very_o many_o for_o on_o the_o one_o side_n it_o persecute_v and_o kill_v the_o godly_a minister_n and_o on_o the_o other_o side_n it_o neglect_v and_o despise_v they_o and_o suffer_v they_o to_o live_v in_o great_a penury_n let_v we_o arm_v ourselves_o against_o these_o and_o such_o like_a error_n and_o let_v we_o learn_v to_o know_v the_o true_a meaning_n of_o the_o scripture_n for_o paul_n speak_v not_o here_o of_o matrimony_n but_o of_o nourish_v the_o minister_n of_o the_o church_n which_o every_o man_n
