the daily sacrifice and they shall place the abomination that ‖ Or astonisheth maketh desolate 32 And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he ‖ Or cause to dissemble corrupt by flatteries but the people that do know their God shall be strong and do exploits 33 And they that understand among the people shall instruct many yet they shall fall by the sword and by flame by captivity and by spoil many days 34 Now when they shall fall they shall be holpen with a little help but many shall cleave to them with flatteries 35 And some of them of understanding shall fall to try ‖ Or by them VIII 1 The feast of the dedication of the temple 12 54 Solomons blessing 22 Solomons prayer 62 His sacrifice of peace offerings THen * 2 Chro. 5.2 Solomon assembled the elders of Israel and all the heads of the tribes the † Heb. pri●●●● chief of the fathers of the children of Israel unto king Solomon in Jerusalem that they might bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David which is Zion 2 And all the men of Israel assembled themselves unto king Solomon at the feast in the moneth Ethanim which is the seventh moneth 3 And all the elders of Israel came and the priests took up the ark 4 And they brought up the ark of the LORD and the tabernacle of the congregation and all the holy vessels that were in the tabernacle even those did the priests and the Levites bring up 5 And king Solomon and all the congregation of Israel that were assembled unto him were with him before the ark sacrificing sheep and oxen that could not be told nor numbred for multitude 6 And the priest-brought in the ark of the covenant of the LORD unto his place into the oracle of the house to the most holy place even under the wings of the cherubims 7 For the cherubims spread forth their two wings over the place of the ark and the cherubims covered the ark the staves thereof above 8 And they drew out the staves that the † Heb. heard ends of the staves were seen out in the ‖ Or ark● as 2 Chr. 5. ● holy place before the oracle and they were not seen without and there they are unto this day 9 There was nothing in the ark * Deu. 10.5 save the two tables of stone which MOses put there at Horeb ‖ Or where when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel when they came out of the land of Egypt 10 And it came to pass when the priests were come out of the holy place that the cloud * Exod. 4● 34 filled the house of the LORD 11 So that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of the LORD 12 ¶ Then spake Solomon The LORD * 2 Chr. 6.1 said that he would dwell in the thick darkness 13 I have surely built thee an house to dwell in a settled place for thee to abide in for ever 14 And the king turned his face about and blessed all the congregation of Israel and all the congregation of Israel stood 15 And he said Blessed be the LORD God of Israel which spake with his mouth unto David my father and hath with his hand fulfilled it saying 16 Since the day that I brought forth my people Israel out of Egypt I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build an house that my name might be therein but I chose * 2 Sam. 7.8 David to be over my people Israel 17 And it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel 18 And the LORD said unto David my father Whereas it was in thine heart to build an house unto my name thou didst well that it was in thine heart 19 Nevertheless thou shalt not build the house but thy son that shall come forth out of thy loyns he shall build the house unto my name 20 And the LORD hath performed his word that he spake and I am risen up in the room of David my father and sit on the throne of Israel as the LORD promised and have built an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel 21 And I have set there a place for the ark wherein is the covenant of the LORD which he made with our fathers when he brought them out of the land of Egypt 22 ¶ And Solomon stood before * 2 Chr. 6.12 the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the congregation of Israel and spread forth his hands toward heaven 23 And he said * 2 Mac. 2.8 LORD God of Israel there is no God like thee in heaven above or on earth beneath who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk before thee with all their heart 24 Who hast kept with thy servant David my father that thou promisedst him thou spakest also with thy mouth and hast fulfilled it with thine hand as it is this day 25 Therefore now LORD God of Israel keep with thy servant David my father that thou promisedst him saying * Chap. 2.4 2 S●m 7.12 † Heb. IV. 1 The altar of brass 2 The molten sea upon twelve oxen 6 The ten lavers candlesticks and tables 9 The courts and the instrumants of brass 19 The instruments of gold MOreover he made an altar of brass twenty cubits the length thereof and twenty cubits the breadth thereof and ten cubits the height thereof 2 ¶ * 1 King 7.23 Also he made a molten sea of ten cubits † Heb. from his brim to his brim from brim to brim round in compass and five cubits the height thereof and a fine of thirty cubits did compass it round about 3 * 1 King 7.24 And under it was the similitude of oxen which did compass it round about ten in a cubit compassing the sea round about Two rows of oxen were cast when it was cast 4 It stood upon twelve oxen three looking toward the north and three looking toward the west and three looking toward the south and three looking toward the east and the sea was set above upon them and all their hinder parts were inward 5 And the thickness of it was an hand-breadth and the brim of it like the work of the brim of a cup ‖ Or ●●●e a lily-flower with flowers of lilies and it received and held thre● thousand baths 6 ¶ He made also ten lavers and put five on the right hand and five on the left to wash in them † Heb. the work of burnt-offering such things as they offered for the burnt-offering they washed in them but the sea was for the priests to wash in 7 And he made ten candlesticks of gold according to their form and set them in the temple five on the right hand and five on the left 8 He made also ten tables and placed them in the temple five on the right side and five on the left and he made an hundred ‖ Or hands basons of gold 9 ¶ Furthermore he made the court of the priests the great court and doors for the court and overlaid the doors of them with brass 10 And he set the sea on the right side of the east-east-end over against the south 11 And Huram made the pots and the shovels and the ‖ Or bowls basons and Huram † Heb. finished to make finished the work that he was to make for king Solomon for the house of God 12 To wit the two pillars and the pommels and the chapiters which were on the top of the two pillars and the two wreaths to cover the two pommels of the chapiters which were on the top of the pillars 13 And four hundred pomegranates on the two wreaths two rows of pomegranates on each wreath to cover the two pommels of the chapiters which were † Heb. upon the face upon the pillars 14 He made also bases and ‖ Or caldrons lavers made he upon the bases 15 One sea and twelve oxen under it 16 The pots also and the shovels and the flesh hooks and all their instruments did Huram his father make to king Solomon for the house of the LORD of † Heb. made bright or scoured bright brass 17 In the plain of Jordan did the king cast them in the † Heb. thicknesses of the ground clay-ground between Succoth and and Zeredathah 18 Thus Solomon made all these vessels in great abundance for the weight of the brass could not be found out 19 ¶ And Solomon made all the vessels that were for the house of God the golden altar also the tables whereon the shew-bread was set 20 Moreover the candlesticks with their lamps that they should burn after the manner before the oracle of pure gold 21 And the flowers and the lamps and the tongs made he of gold and that † Heb. perfections of gold perfect gold 22 And the snuffers and the ‖ Or bowls basons and the spoons and the censers of pure gold and the entry of the house the inner doors thereof for the most holy place and the doors of the house of the temple were of gold CHAP. V. 1 The dedicated treasures 2 The solemn induction of the ark into the cracle 11 God being praised giveth a visible signe of his favour THus all the work that Solomon made for the house of the LORD was finished * 1 King 7.51 and Solomon brought in all the things that David his father had dedicated and the silver and the gold
