Ch. 59.3 †Heb. blouds bloud 16 ¶ Wash ye make you clean put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes * 1 Pet. 3.11 cease to do evil 17 Learn to do well seek judgement ‖ Or rightâ—â—â— relieve the oppressed judge the fatherless plead for the widow 18 Come now and let us reason together saith the LORD though your sins be as scarlet they shall be as white as snow though they be red like crimson they shall be as wool 19 If ye be willing and obedient ye shall eat the good of the land 20 But if ye refuse and rebel ye shall be devoured with the sword for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it 21 ¶ How is the faithful city become an harlot it was full of judgement righteousness lodged in it but now murderers 22 Thy silver is become dross thy wine mixt with water 23 Thy princes are rebellious and companions of theeves every one loveth gifts and followeth after rewards they * Jer. 5.28 Zech. 7 1â— judge not the fatherless neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them 24 Therefore saith the Lord the LORD of hosts the mighty One of Israel Ah I will ease me of mine adversaries and avenge me of mine enemies 25 ¶ And I will turn my hand upon thee and †Heb. according to pureness purely purge away thy dross and take away all thy tin 26 And I will restore thy judges as at the first and thy counsellours as at the beginning afterward thou shalt be called The city of righteousnes the faithful city 27 Zion shall be redeemed with judgement and ‖ Or they that return of her her converts with righteousness 28 ¶ And the * Job 31.3 Ps 1.6 5.6 73.27 92.9 and 104.35 †Heb. breaking destruction of the transgressours and of the sinners shall be together and they that forsake the LORD shall be consumed 29 For they shall be ashamed of the oaks which ye have desired and ye shall be confounded for the gardens that ye have chosen 30 For ye shall be as an oak whose leaf fadeth and as a garden that hath no water 31 And the strong shall be as tow ‖ Or and his work and the maker of it as a spark and they shall both burn together and none shall quench them CHAP. II. 1 Isaiah prophesieth the coming of Christs kingdom â— Wickedness is the cause of Gods forsaking 10 He exhorteth to fear because of the powerful effect of Gods majesty THe word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem 2 And * Mic. 4 â— c. it shall come to pass in the last days that the mountain of the LORD house shall be ‖ Or prepared established in the top of the mountains and shall be exalted above the hills and all nations shall flow unto it 3 And many people shall go and say Come ye and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD to the house of the God of Jacob and he will teach us of his ways and we will walk in his paths for out of Zion shall go forth the law and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem 4 And he shall judge among the nations and shall rebuke many people and they shall beat their swords into plow-shares and their spears into ‖ Or sithes pruning-hooks nation shall not lift up sword against nation neither shall they learn war any more 5 O house of Jacob come ye and let us walk in the light of the LORD 6 Therefore thou hast forsaken thy people the house of Jacob because they be replenished ‖ Or more then the east from the east and are sooth-sayers like the Philistines and they ‖ Or abound with the children c. please themselves in the children of strangers 7 Their land also is full of silver and gold neither is there any end of their treasures their land is also full of horses neither is there any end of their chariots 8 Their land also is full of idols they worship the work of their own hands that which their own fingers have made 9 And the mean man boweth down and the great man humbleth himself therefore forgive them not 10 ¶ Enter into the rock and hide thee in the dust for fear of the LORD and for the glory of his majesty 11 The * Chap. 5.15 lofty looks of man shall be humbled and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day 12 For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty and upon every one that is lifted up and he shall be brought low 13 And upon all the cedars of Lebanon that are high and lifted up and upon all the oaks of Bashan 14 And upon all the high mountains and upon all the hills that are lifted up 15 And upon every high towre and upon every senced wall 16 And upon all the ships of Tarthish and upâ—n all †Heb. pictures of dâ—sire pleasant pictures 17 And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down and the haughtiness of men shall be made low and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day 18 And ‖ Or the idols shall utterly pass away the idols he shall utterly abolish 19 And they shall go into the * Hoâ— 10.8 Lu. 23.30 Rev. 6.16 9.6 holes of the rocks and into the caves of †Heb. the â—ust the earth for fear of the LORD and for the glory of his majesty when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth 20 In that day a man shall cast †Heb. the idols of his silvâ—r c. his idols of silver and his idols of gold ‖ Or which they made for him which they made each one for himself to worship to the moles and to the bats 21 To go into the clefts of the rocks and into the tops of the ragged rocks for fear of the LORD and for the glory of his majesty when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth 22 Cease ye from man whose breath is in his nostrils for wherein is he to be accounted of CHAP. return and be stirred up even to his fortress 11 And the king of the south shall be moved with choler and shall come forth and fight with him even with the king of the north and he shall set forth a great multitude but the multitude shall be given into his hand 12 And when he hath taken away the multitude his heart shall be lifted up and he shall cast down many ten thousands but he shall not be strengthned by it 13 For the king of the north shall return and shall set forth a multitude greater then the former and shall certainly come †Heb. at the end of times of years after certain years with a great army and with much riches 14 And in those times there shall many stand up against the king of the south also †Heb. the children of robbers the robbers of thy people shall exalt themselves to establish the vision but they shall fall 15 So the king of the north shall come and cast up a mount and take †Heb. the city of munitions the most fenced cities and the arms of the south shall not withstand neither †Heb. the people of his choices his chosen people neither shall there be any strength to withstand 16 But he that cometh against him shall do according to his own will and none shall stand before him and he shall stand in the ‖ Or goodly land †Heb. the land of ornament glorious land which by his hand shall be consumed 17 He shall also set his face to enter with the strength of his whole kingdom and ‖ Or muth uprightness or equal conditions upright ones with him thus shall he do and he shall give him the daughter of women †Heb. to corrupt corrupting her but the shall not stand on his side neither be for him 18 After this shall he turn his face unto the isles and shall take many but a prince †Heb. for him for his own behalf shall cause †Heb. his reproach the reproach offered by him to cease without his own reproach he shall cause it to turn upon him 19 Then he shall turn his face towards the fort of his own land but he shall stumble and fall and not be found 20 Then shall stand up in his estate †Heb. one that causeth an exactour to past over a raiser of taxes in the glory of the kingdom but within few days he shall be destroyed neither in †Heb. angers anger nor in battel 21 And in his estate shall stand up a vile person to whom they shall not give the honour of the kingdom but he shall come in peaceably and obtain the kingdom by flatteries 22 And with the arms of a floud shall they be overflown from before him and shall be broken yea also the prince of the covenant 23 And after the league made with him he shall work deceitfully for he shall come up and shall become strong with a small people 24 He shall enter ‖ Or into the peaceableâ— and fat c. peaceably even upon the fattest places of the province and he shall do that which his fathers have not done nor his fathers fathers he shall scatter among them the prey and spoil and riches yea and he shall †Heb. think his thoughts forecast his devices against the strong holds even for a time 25 And he shall stir up his power and his courage against the king of the south with a great army and the king of the south shall be stirred up to battel with a very great and mighty army but he shall not stand for they shall forecast devices against him 26 Yea they that feed of the portion of his meat shall destroy him and his army shall overflow and many shall fall down slain 27 And both these kings †Heb. their hearts hearts shall be to do mischief and they shall speak lies at one table but it shall not prosper for yet the end shall be at the time appointed 28 Then shall he return into his land with great riches and his heart shall be against the holy covenant and he shall do exploits and return to his own land 29 At the time appointed he shall return and come toward the south but it shall not be as the former or as the latter 30 ¶ For the ships of Chittim shall come against him therefore he shall be grieved and return and have indignation against the holy covenant so shall he do he shall even return and have intelligence with them that forsake the holy covenant 31 And arms shall stand on his part and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength and shall take away the daily sacrifice and they shall place the abomination that ‖ Or astonisheth maketh desolate 32 And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he ‖ Or cause to dissemble corrupt by flatteries but the people that do know their God shall be strong and do exploits 33 And they that understand among the people shall instruct many yet they shall fall by the sword and by flame by captivity and by spoil many days 34 Now when they shall fall they shall be holpen with a little help but many shall cleave to them with flatteries 35 And some of them of understanding shall fall to try ‖ Or by them them and to purge and to make them white even to the time of the end because it is yet for a time appointed 36 And the king shall do according to his will and he shall exalt himself and magnifie himself above every god and
shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished for that that is determined shall be done 37 Neither shall he regard the god of his fathers nor the desire of women nor regard any god for he shall magnifie himself above all 38 But in his estate shall he honour the God of ‖ Or munitions †Heb. Mauzzim or as for the almighty God in his seat he shall honour yea he shall honour a god c. forces and a God whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold and silver and with precious stones and †Heb. things desired pleasant things 39 Thus shall he do in the †Heb. fortresses of munitions most strong holds with a strange God whom he shall acknowledge and increase with glory and he shall cause them to rule over many and shall divide the land for †Heb. a price gain 40 And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind with chariots and with hors men and with many ships and he shall enter into the countreys and shall overflow and pass over 41 He shall enter also into the ‖ Or goodly land †Heb. land of delight or ornament glorious land and many countreys shall be overthrown but these shall escape out of his hand even Edom and Moaâ— and the chief of the children of Ammon 42 He shall †Heb. send forth stretch forth his hand also upon the countreys and the land of Egypt shall not escape 43 But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and silver and over all the precious things of Egypt and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps 44 But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him therefore he sâ—â—ll go forth with great fury to destroy and utterly to make away many 45 And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the ‖ Or goodly †Heb. mountain of delicht of holiness glorious holy mountain yet he shall come to his end and none shall help him CHAP. I. 1 Hosea to shew Gods judgement for spiritual wheredom taketh Gomer 〈◊〉 and hath by her Jezreel 6 Lo-ruhamah 8 and Lo-ammi 10 The restauration of Judah and Israel THe word of the LORD that came unto Hosea the son of Beeri in the days of Uzziah Jotham Ahaz and Hezekiah kings of Judah and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel 2 The beginning of the word of the LORD by Hosea and the LORD said to Hosea Go take unto thee a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms for the land hath committed great whoredom departing from the LORD 3 So he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim which conceived and bare him a son 4 And the LORD said unto him Call his name Jezreel for yet a little while and I will †Heb. visit avenge the bloud of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu and will cause to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel 5 And it shall come to pass at that day that I will break the bowe of Israel in the valley of Jezreel 6 ¶ And she conceived again and bare a daughter and God said unto him Call her name ‖ That is not having obtained mercy Lo-ruhamah for †Heb. XVIII 1 The tabernacle is set up at Shiloh 2 The remainder of the land is described and divided into seven parts 10 Joshua divideth it by lot 11 The lot and border of Benjamin 21 Their cities ANd the whole congregation of the Children of Israel assembled together at Shiloh and set up the tabernacle of the congregation there and the land was subdued before them 2 And there remained among the children of Israel seven tribes which had not yet received their inheritance 3 And Joshua said unto the children of Israel How long are you slack to go to possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers hath given you 4 Give out from among you three men for each tribe and I will send them and they shall rise and go through the land and describe it according to the inheritance of them and they shall come again to me 5 And they shall divide it into seven parts Judah shall abide in their coast on the south and the house of Joseph shall abide in their coasts on the north 6 Ye shall therefore describe the land into seven parts and bring the description hither to me that I may cast lots for you here before the LORD our God 7 But the Levites have no part among you for the priest-hood of the LORD is their inheritance and Gad and Reuben and half the tribe of Manasseh have received their inheritance beyond Jordan on the east which Moses the servant of the LORD gave them 8 ¶ And the men arose and went away and Joshua charged them that went to describe the land saying Go and walk through the land and describe it and come again to me that I may here cast lots for you before the LORD in Shiloh 9 And the men went and passed through the land and described it by cities into seven parts in a book and came again to Joshua to the host at Shiloh 10 ¶ And Joshua cast lots for them in Shiloh before the LORD and there Joshua divided the land unto the children of Israel according to their divisions 11 ¶ And the lot of the tribe of the children of Benjamin came up according to their families and the coast of their lot came forth between the children of Judah and the children of Joseph 12 And their border on the north-side was from Jordan and the border went up to the side of Jericho on the north-side and went up through the mountains west-ward and the goings-out thereof were at the wilderness of Beth-aven 13 And the border went over from thence toward Luz to the side of Luz which is Beth-el south-ward and the border descended to Ataroth-adar near the hill that lieth on the south-side of the nether Beth-horon 14 And the border was drawn thence and compassed the corner of the sea south-ward from the hill that lieth before Beth-horon south-ward and the goings out thereof were at Kirjath-baal which is Kirjath-jearim a city of the children of Judah This was the west-quarter 15 And the south-quarter was from the end of Kirjath-jearim and the border went out on the west and went out to the well of waters of Nephtoah 16 And the border came down to the end of the mountain that lieth before the valley of the son of Hinnom and which is in the valley of the giants on the north and descended to the valley of Hinnom to the side of Jebusi on the south and descended to En-rogel 17 And was drawn from the north and went forth to En-shemesh and went forth toward Geliloth which is over against the going up of Adummim and descended to * Chap. 15.6 the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben 18 And passed along toward the side over against †Or the plain Arabah north-ward and went down unto Arabah 19 And the border passed along to the side of Beth-hoglah north-ward and the out goings of the border were at the north †Heb. tongue bay of the salt-sea at the south-end of Jordan This was the south-coast 20 And Jordan was the border of it on the east-side This was the inheritance of the children of Benjamin by the coasts thereof round about according to their families 21 Now the cities of the tribe of the children of Benjamin according to their families were Jericho and Beth-hoglah and the valley of Keziz 22 And Beth-arabah and Zemaraim and Beth-el 23 And Avim and Parah and Ophrah 24 And Chephar-haamonai and Ophni and Gaba twelve cities with their villages 25 Gibeon and Ramah and Beeroth 26 And Mizpeh and Chephirah and Mozah 27 And Rekem and Irpeel and Taralah 28 And Zelah Eleph and Jebusi which is Jerusalem Gibeath and Kirjath fourteen cities with their villages This is the inheritance of the children of Benjamin according to their families CHAP. XIX 1 The lot of Simeon 10 of Zebulun 17 of Issachar 24 of Asher 32 of Naphtali 40 of Dan.

VIII 1 The feast of the dedication of the temple 12 54 Solomons blessing 22 Solomons prayer 62 His sacrifice of peace offerings THen * 2 Chro. 5.2 Solomon assembled the elders of Israel and all the heads of the tribes the †Heb. priâ—â—â—â— chief of the fathers of the children of Israel unto king Solomon in Jerusalem that they might bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David which is Zion 2 And all the men of Israel assembled themselves unto king Solomon at the feast in the moneth Ethanim which is the seventh moneth 3 And all the elders of Israel came and the priests took up the ark 4 And they brought up the ark of the LORD and the tabernacle of the congregation and all the holy vessels that were in the tabernacle even those did the priests and the Levites bring up 5 And king Solomon and all the congregation of Israel that were assembled unto him were with him before the ark sacrificing sheep and oxen that could not be told nor numbred for multitude 6 And the priest-brought in the ark of the covenant of the LORD unto his place into the oracle of the house to the most holy place even under the wings of the cherubims 7 For the cherubims spread forth their two wings over the place of the ark and the cherubims covered the ark the staves thereof above 8 And they drew out the staves that the †Heb. heard ends of the staves were seen out in the ‖ Or arkâ— as 2 Chr. 5. â— holy place before the oracle and they were not seen without and there they are unto this day 9 There was nothing in the ark * Deu. 10.5 save the two tables of stone which MOses put there at Horeb ‖ Or where when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel when they came out of the land of Egypt 10 And it came to pass when the priests were come out of the holy place that the cloud * Exod. 4â— 34 filled the house of the LORD 11 So that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of the LORD 12 ¶ Then spake Solomon The LORD * 2 Chr. 6.1 said that he would dwell in the thick darkness 13 I have surely built thee an house to dwell in a settled place for thee to abide in for ever 14 And the king turned his face about and blessed all the congregation of Israel and all the congregation of Israel stood 15 And he said Blessed be the LORD God of Israel which spake with his mouth unto David my father and hath with his hand fulfilled it saying 16 Since the day that I brought forth my people Israel out of Egypt I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build an house that my name might be therein but I chose * 2 Sam. 7.8 David to be over my people Israel 17 And it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel 18 And the LORD said unto David my father Whereas it was in thine heart to build an house unto my name thou didst well that it was in thine heart 19 Nevertheless thou shalt not build the house but thy son that shall come forth out of thy loyns he shall build the house unto my name 20 And the LORD hath performed his word that he spake and I am risen up in the room of David my father and sit on the throne of Israel as the LORD promised and have built an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel 21 And I have set there a place for the ark wherein is the covenant of the LORD which he made with our fathers when he brought them out of the land of Egypt 22 ¶ And Solomon stood before * 2 Chr. 6.12 the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the congregation of Israel and spread forth his hands toward heaven 23 And he said * 2 Mac. 2.8 LORD God of Israel there is no God like thee in heaven above or on earth beneath who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk before thee with all their heart 24 Who hast kept with thy servant David my father that thou promisedst him thou spakest also with thy mouth and hast fulfilled it with thine hand as it is this day 25 Therefore now LORD God of Israel keep with thy servant David my father that thou promisedst him saying * Chap. 2.4 2 Sâ—m 7.12 †Heb. IV. 1 The altar of brass 2 The molten sea upon twelve oxen 6 The ten lavers candlesticks and tables 9 The courts and the instrumants of brass 19 The instruments of gold MOreover he made an altar of brass twenty cubits the length thereof and twenty cubits the breadth thereof and ten cubits the height thereof 2 ¶ * 1 King 7.23 Also he made a molten sea of ten cubits †Heb. from his brim to his brim from brim to brim round in compass and five cubits the height thereof and a fine of thirty cubits did compass it round about 3 * 1 King 7.24 And under it was the similitude of oxen which did compass it round about ten in a cubit compassing the sea round about Two rows of oxen were cast when it was cast 4 It stood upon twelve oxen three looking toward the north and three looking toward the west and three looking toward the south and three looking toward the east and the sea was set above upon them and all their hinder parts were inward 5 And the thickness of it was an hand-breadth and the brim of it like the work of the brim of a cup ‖ Or â—â—â—e a lily-flower with flowers of lilies and it received and held threâ— thousand baths 6 ¶ He made also ten lavers and put five on the right hand and five on the left to wash in them †Heb. the work of burnt-offering such things as they offered for the burnt-offering they washed in them but the sea was for the priests to wash in 7 And he made ten candlesticks of gold according to their form and set them in the temple five on the right hand and five on the left 8 He made also ten tables and placed them in the temple five on the right side and five on the left and he made an hundred ‖ Or hands basons of gold 9 ¶ Furthermore he made the court of the priests the great court and doors for the court and overlaid the doors of them with brass 10 And he set the sea on the right side of the east-east-end over against the south 11 And Huram made the pots and the shovels and the ‖ Or bowls basons and Huram †Heb. finished to make finished the work that he was to make for king Solomon for the house of God 12 To wit the two pillars and the pommels and the chapiters which were on the top of the two pillars and the two wreaths to cover the two pommels of the chapiters which were on the top of the pillars 13 And four hundred pomegranates on the two wreaths two rows of pomegranates on each wreath to cover the two pommels of the chapiters which were †Heb. upon the face upon the pillars 14 He made also bases and ‖ Or caldrons lavers made he upon the bases 15 One sea and twelve oxen under it 16 The pots also and the shovels and the flesh hooks and all their instruments did Huram his father make to king Solomon for the house of the LORD of †Heb. made bright or scoured bright brass 17 In the plain of Jordan did the king cast them in the †Heb. thicknesses of the ground clay-ground between Succoth and and Zeredathah 18 Thus Solomon made all these vessels in great abundance for the weight of the brass could not be found out 19 ¶ And Solomon made all the vessels that were for the house of God the golden altar also the tables whereon the shew-bread was set 20 Moreover the candlesticks with their lamps that they should burn after the manner before the oracle of pure gold 21 And the flowers and the lamps and the tongs made he of gold and that †Heb. perfections of gold perfect gold 22 And the snuffers and the ‖ Or bowls basons and the spoons and the censers of pure gold and the entry of the house the inner doors thereof for the most holy place and the doors of the house of the temple were of gold CHAP. V. 1 The dedicated treasures 2 The solemn induction of the ark into the cracle 11 God being praised giveth a visible signe of his favour THus all the work that Solomon made for the house of the LORD was finished * 1 King 7.51 and Solomon brought in all the things that David his father had dedicated and the silver and the gold
