eminent_a physician_n agree_v that_o my_o disease_n be_v the_o hypochondriac_a melancholy_n and_o not_o the_o scurvy_a to_o recite_v a_o catalogue_n of_o my_o symptom_n and_o pain_n from_o head_n to_o foot_n will_v be_v a_o tedious_a interruption_n to_o the_o reader_n i_o shall_v therefore_o only_o say_v this_o that_o the_o symptom_n and_o effect_n of_o my_o general_n indisposition_n be_v very_o terrible_a such_o as_o a_o flatulent_a stomach_n that_o turn_v all_o thing_n into_o wind_n a_o rheumatic_a head_n to_o a_o very_a great_a degree_n and_o great_a sharpness_n in_o my_o blood_n which_o occasion_v i_o no_o small_a trouble_n by_o the_o excoriation_n of_o my_o finger_n end_n which_o upon_o any_o heat_n i_o use_v or_o aromatic_a thing_n i_o take_v will_v be_v raw_a and_o bloody_a and_o every_o spring_n and_o fall_v or_o by_o any_o kind_n of_o heat_n my_o nose_n still_o fall_v a_o bleed_a and_o that_o with_o such_o a_o great_a violence_n and_o in_o such_o excessive_a quantity_n as_o often_o threaten_v my_o life_n which_o i_o then_o ascribe_v to_o such_o cause_n as_o i_o have_v since_o live_v to_o see_v myself_o mistake_v in_o for_o i_o be_o now_o full_o satisfy_v that_o all_o proceed_v from_o latent_fw-la stone_n in_o my_o reins_o occasion_v by_o unsuitable_a diet_n in_o my_o youth_n and_o yet_o two_o wonderful_a mercy_n i_o have_v from_o god_n 1._o that_o i_o be_v never_o overwhelm_v with_o real_a melancholy_n my_o distemper_n never_o go_v so_o far_o as_o to_o possess_v i_o with_o any_o inordinate_a fancy_n or_o damp_n i_o with_o sink_a sadness_n although_o the_o physician_n call_v it_o the_o hypochondriac_a melancholy_n i_o have_v at_o several_a time_n the_o advice_n of_o no_o less_o than_o six_o and_o thirty_o physician_n by_o who_o order_n i_o use_v drug_n without_o number_n almost_o which_o god_n think_v not_o fit_a to_o make_v successful_a for_o a_o cure_n and_o indeed_o all_o author_n that_o i_o read_v acquaint_v i_o that_o my_o disease_n be_v incurable_a whereupon_o i_o at_o last_o forsake_v the_o doctor_n for_o the_o most_o part_n except_o when_o the_o urgency_n of_o a_o symptom_n or_o pain_n constrain_v i_o to_o seek_v some_o present_a ease_n 2._o the_o second_o mercy_n which_o i_o meet_v with_o be_v that_o my_o pain_n though_o daily_o and_o almost_o continual_a do_v not_o very_o much_o disable_v i_o from_o my_o duty_n but_o i_o can_v study_v and_o preach_v and_o walk_v almost_o as_o well_o if_o i_o have_v be_v free_a of_o which_o more_o anon_o at_o last_o fall_v into_o a_o sudden_a and_o great_a decay_n and_o debility_n i_o go_v to_o sir_n theodore_n mayerne_n who_o keep_v i_o in_o a_o long_a course_n of_o physic_n which_o do_v i_o some_o good_a for_o the_o present_a and_o after_o that_o ride_v much_o in_o the_o army_n do_v i_o some_o good_a than_o any_o thing_n but_o have_v one_o symptom_n on_o i_o the_o constant_a excoriation_n of_o my_o three_o foremost_a finger_n end_n on_o both_o hand_n to_o the_o raw_a flesh_n he_o send_v i_o to_o tunbridgewater_n where_o i_o stay_v three_o week_n and_o after_o that_o my_o defluction_n and_o agitation_n of_o the_o serous_a matter_n much_o increase_v though_o the_o excoriation_n cease_v at_o that_o time_n and_o hasten_v my_o great_a ruin_n especial_o one_o error_n of_o his_o do_v i_o hurt_v he_o vehement_o persswade_v i_o to_o the_o eat_n of_o apple_n which_o of_o all_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n have_v ever_o be_v my_o most_o deadly_a enemy_n so_o that_o when_o it_o be_v too_o late_o dr._n mayerne_n perceive_v that_o though_o acrimony_n dispose_v the_o matter_n yet_o mere_a flatulency_n pump_v up_o the_o blood_n and_o be_v the_o most_o immediate_a cause_n of_o the_o haemorrhagie_n have_v take_v cold_a with_o ride_v thin_a clothe_v in_o the_o snow_n and_o have_v but_o two_o day_n eat_v apple_n before_o meat_n as_o he_o persuade_v i_o i_o fall_v into_o such_o a_o bleed_a as_o continue_v six_o day_n with_o some_o fit_n of_o intermission_n so_o that_o about_o a_o gallon_n of_o blood_n that_o we_o note_v be_v lose_v and_o what_o more_o i_o know_v not_o upon_o this_o both_o he_o and_o other_o physician_n give_v i_o up_o as_o hopeless_a through_o the_o weakness_n thereby_o occasion_v and_o conclude_v that_o all_o will_v end_v in_o a_o dropsy_n for_o my_o leg_n begin_v to_o swell●_n by_o a_o friend_n persuasion_n i_o write_v to_o dr._n george_n bates_n archiater_n to_o king_n charles_n the_o second_o as_o sir_n theodore_n mayerne_n be_v to_o king_n charles_n the_o first_o who_o concur_v so_o exact_o in_o all_o point_n with_o dr._n mayerne_n as_o if_o they_o have_v consult_v the_o case_n and_o the_o medicament_n prescribe_v be_v unusual_a that_o i_o marvel_v at_o their_o concord_n and_o by_o both_o their_o counsel_n though_o neither_o of_o they_o have_v any_o considerable_a hope_n of_o my_o life_n i_o be_v necessitate_v beside_o other_o remedy_n to_o be_v oft_o in_o purge_v for_o all_o my_o weakness_n to_o prevent_v a_o dropsy_n within_o a_o quarter_n of_o a_o year_n i_o be_v able_a weak_o to_o preach_v again_o but_o continue_v divers_a year_n in_o languish_a pain_n and_o weakness_n double_a or_o fourfold_o to_o what_o i_o have_v before_o so_o that_o beside_o all_o my_o former_a infirmity_n ever_o after_o this_o bleed_v my_o chief_a disease_n be_v a_o praematura_fw-la senectus_fw-la through_o the_o great_a diminution_n of_o nature_n stock_n and_o just_o the_o same_o symptom_n as_o most_o man_n have_v about_o fourscore_o year_n of_o age_n be_v add_v to_o those_o which_o i_o have_v before_o in_o some_o seem_a necessity_n my_o latter_a physician_n after_o all_o this_o do_v four_o or_o five_o time_n take_v some_o blood_n from_o i_o and_o once_o a_o spoonful_n in_o about_o seven_o ounce_n of_o serum_n do_v coagulate_v but_o at_o no_o other_o time_n will_v one_o jot_n of_o it_o ever_o coagulate_a or_o cohere_v but_o be_v a_o meet_a putrilage_n sine_fw-la fibris_fw-la like_o thin_a ink_n or_o saw-pit_n water_n to_o keep_v this_o blood_n in_o the_o relaxed_a vessel_n be_v now_o all_o my_o care_n which_o daily_o shed_v abroad_o upon_o my_o eye_n and_o tooth_n and_o jaw_n and_o joint_n so_o that_o i_o have_v scarce_o rest_v night_n or_o day_n of_o some_o of_o the_o effect_n and_o my_o remedy_n which_o god_n bless_v to_o my_o ease_n i_o shall_v speak_v more_o afterward_o with_o such_o blood_n in_o a_o kind_n of_o atrophy_n which_o have_v cause_v a_o very_a troublesome_a drowsiness_n to_o seize_v upon_o and_o follow_v i_o i_o have_v live_v now_o these_o many_o year_n and_o write_v all_o the_o book_n that_o ever_o i_o write_v and_o do_v the_o great_a part_n of_o my_o service_n my_o chief_a remedy_n be_v 1._o temperance_n as_o to_o quantity_n and_o quality_n of_o food_n for_o every_o bit_n or_o spoonful_n too_o much_o and_o all_o that_o be_v not_o exceed_v easy_a of_o digestion_n and_o all_o that_o be_v flatulent_a do_v turn_v all_o to_o wind_n and_o disorder_v my_o head_n 2._o exercise_v till_o i_o sweat_v for_o if_o i_o walk_v not_o hard_o with_o almost_o all_o my_o strength_n a_o hour_n before_o dinner_n and_o a_o hour_n before_o super_n till_o i_o sweat_v well_o i_o be_o not_o able_a to_o digest_v two_o meal_n and_o can_v expect_v to_o live_v when_o i_o be_o disable_v for_o exercise_n be_v present_o overwhelm_v with_o chilliness_n flatulency_n and_o serosity_n 3._o a_o constant_a extrinsic_a heat_n by_o a_o great_a fire_n which_o may_v keep_v i_o still_o near_o to_o a_o sweat_n if_o not_o in_o it_o for_o i_o be_o seldom_o well_o at_o ease_n but_o in_o a_o sweat_n 4._o beer_n as_o hot_a as_o my_o throat_n will_v endure_v drink_v all_o at_o once_o to_o make_v i_o sweat_n these_o be_v the_o mean_n which_o god_n have_v use_v to_o draw_v out_o my_o day_n and_o give_v i_o ease_v with_o one_o herb_n inward_o take_v which_o i_o write_v for_o the_o sake_n of_o any_o student_n that_o may_v be_v near_o the_o same_o distemper_n but_o almost_o all_o physic_n do_v i_o harm_n and_o no_o aromatical_a thing_n now_o can_v i_o taste_v but_o it_o set_v my_o nose_n a_o bleed_a though_o since_o i_o bleed_v a_o gallon_n i_o be_o not_o so_o prone_a to_o it_o as_o before_o i_o have_v cast_v in_o all_o this_o here_o together_o that_o the_o reader_n may_v better_o understand_v other_o thing_n and_o may_v not_o too_o oft_o be_v trouble_v with_o such_o matter_n but_o now_o at_o the_o age_n of_o near_a seventy_o year_n what_o change_n and_o sad_a day_n and_o night_n i_o undergo_v i_o after_o tell_v §_o 10._o about_o the_o eighteen_o year_n of_o my_o
