steal_v etc._n etc._n and_o although_o every_o man_n do_v love_v respect_n and_o estimation_n among_o other_o yet_o there_o be_v nothing_o wherein_n more_o liberal_o and_o even_o prodigal_o man_n encroach_v upon_o one_o another_o then_o by_o the_o neglect_n and_o denial_n of_o this_o duty_n and_o by_o the_o contrary_a sin_n though_o it_o be_v most_o direct_o opposite_a to_o love_v and_o that_o and_o darken_v all_o that_o be_v about_o they_o when_o as_o it_o be_v much_o more_o christian_a and_o congruous_a for_o a_o man_n to_o who_o god_n may_v have_v give_v more_o than_o he_o have_v do_v to_o other_o selfdenyed_o to_o vail_v and_o studious_o to_o obscure_v himself_o in_o some_o case_n lest_o he_o sadden_fw-mi or_o eclipse_v other_o or_o draw_v more_o observation_n to_o himself_o 6._o emulation_n which_o be_v a_o seek_v to_o go_v beyond_o another_o in_o esteem_n not_o from_o any_o love_n of_o virtue_n but_o only_o out_o of_o a_o envious_a desire_n of_o have_v the_o pre-eminence_n of_o such_o a_o person_n of_o outstrip_v he_o and_o of_o bear_v he_o down_o in_o his_o reputation_n it_o follow_v on_o the_o former_a 7._o detraction_n a_o vice_n whereby_o man_n underhand_o whisper_v what_o may_v be_v to_o the_o dishonour_n of_o another_o even_o though_o it_o be_v a_o truth_n use_v insinuation_n and_o such_o a_o manner_n of_o seem_a respect_n to_o the_o detract_v as_o may_v make_v the_o blot_n and_o infamy_n to_o stick_v as_o when_o many_o commendation_n be_v give_v â—_o man_n not_o out_o of_o any_o respect_n to_o he_o but_o to_o make_v some_o reproach_n cast_v upon_o he_o go_v down_o the_o better_a and_o be_v the_o more_o easy_o believe_v as_o come_v from_o such_o a_o one_o who_o respect_v and_o love_v the_o man_n as_o he_o be_v discreet_a of_o great_a part_n etc._n etc._n not_o honourable_a neither_o can_v they_o make_v the_o possessor_n such_o but_o riches_n may_v make_v one_o capable_a of_o do_v more_o good_a and_o of_o be_v more_o useful_a in_o church_n and_o commonwealth_n and_o consequent_o of_o be_v deserve_o honour_v and_o no_o doubt_n a_o rich_a man_n be_v to_o be_v respect_v as_o a_o steward_n entrust_v with_o some_o thing_n to_o be_v employ_v for_o the_o honour_n of_o god_n and_o for_o the_o good_a of_o other_o and_o r_o ache_n when_o well_o improve_v to_o these_o end_n they_o become_v useful_a and_o therefore_o in_o that_o case_n the_o possessor_n of_o they_o be_v to_o be_v honour_v but_o when_o abuse_v the_o person_n be_v more_o vile_a so_o david_n at_o first_o honour_a nabal_n as_o a_o father_n and_o call_v himself_o his_o son_n but_o after_o that_o his_o churlishness_n appear_v and_o discover_v itself_o so_o gross_o there_o be_v no_o such_o honour_n due_a to_o he_o nor_o give_v he_o as_o to_o what_o the_o apostle_n james_n discourse_v cap_n 2.1.2_o certain_o he_o do_v not_o there_o simple_o condemn_v all_o reverence_v of_o rich_a man_n but_o the_o do_v of_o it_o 1._o on_o a_o religious_a account_n and_o in_o religious_a have_v much_o more_o religion_n than_o they_o be_v the_o acceptation_n of_o person_n condemn_v here_o by_o the_o apostle_n james_n to_o wit_n when_o a_o rich_a man_n be_v prefer_v as_o more_o godly_a and_o only_o because_o more_o rich_a before_o a_o poor_a man_n alike_o godly_a or_o more_o godly_a than_o he_o quest._n 3._o wherein_o consist_v the_o difference_n that_o be_v betwixt_o the_o testimony_n and_o respect_n such_o as_o paul_n have_v in_o the_o conscience_n general_o of_o all_o but_o especial_o of_o his_o gracious_a hearer_n that_o be_v a_o approbation_n that_o he_o be_v worthy_a of_o honour_n not_o only_o for_o the_o outward_a capacity_n he_o be_v in_o to_o do_v good_a but_o for_o actual_a improve_n of_o it_o to_o that_o end_n which_o be_v a_o far_a other_o thing_n faithfulness_n holiness_n thus_o paul_n disclaim_v seek_v the_o applause_n of_o be_v a_o learned_a or_o eloquent_a or_o wise_a man_n he_o disdain_v these_o seek_v it_o only_o in_o the_o faithful_a single_a and_o zealous_a discharge_n of_o his_o ministry_n among_o the_o corinthian_n 5._o this_o testimony_n or_o respect_n be_v to_o be_v seek_v after_o even_o with_o a_o piece_n of_o holy_a honourable_a in_o itself_o gold_n have_v not_o more_o its_o lustre_n a_o ruby_n or_o diamond_n its_o beauty_n nor_o the_o sun_n its_o light_n and_o glory_n than_o godliness_n and_o virtue_n whereby_o god_n be_v honour_v be_v radiant_a to_o their_o own_o praise_n 2._o if_o after_o by_o reason_n of_o human_a infirmity_n and_o other_o disadvantage_n this_o radiancy_n be_v obscure_v or_o through_o man_n ignorance_n folly_n or_o malignity_n this_o worthiness_n not_o observe_v or_o not_o esteem_v the_o lord_n undertake_v for_o the_o former_a and_o vindicate_v from_o the_o latter_a tell_v we_o be_v by_o humility_n the_o fear_n of_o the_o lord_n obedience_n submission_n and_o selfdenyedness_n whereby_o the_o lord_n as_o it_o be_v to_o make_v honour_n the_o more_o honourable_a will_v have_v not_o this_o promise_n be_v to_o be_v simple_o understand_v and_o the_o accomplishment_n of_o it_o without_o any_o restriction_n expect_v or_o look_v for_o answ._n although_o this_o promise_n seem_v to_o have_v a_o peculiar_a respect_n unto_o that_o dispensation_n wherein_o not_o only_o the_o saint_n everlasting_a rest_n be_v prefigure_v by_o that_o temporal_a rest_n in_o the_o land_n of_o necessary_a and_o not_o occupy_v by_o another_o under_o the_o like_a need_n and_o after_o the_o similitude_n of_o this_o right_n crow_n and_o so_o of_o other_o live_a creature_n may_v take_v their_o meat_n on_o the_o field_n of_o any_o man_n thus_o a_o man_n starve_v may_v for_o himself_o or_o his_o brother_n if_o in_o the_o like_a condition_n when_o the_o proper_a owner_n of_o any_o corn_n can_v
