inward_a action_n of_o the_o heart_n the_o second_o be_v the_o outward_a action_n of_o the_o mouth_n 10._o with_o the_o heart_n man_n believe_v to_o righteousness_n &_o with_o the_o mouth_n he_o confess_v to_o salvation_n now_o the_o apostle_n have_v to_o do_v with_o pastor_n not_o so_o much_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o inward_a disposition_n of_o their_o heart_n as_o of_o their_o outward_a pattern_n therefore_o he_o speak_v not_o a_o word_n of_o the_o inward_a disposition_n of_o the_o heart_n but_o of_o outward_a faithfulness_n and_o this_o be_v that_o which_o principal_o we_o be_v to_o look_v into_o namely_o how_o christ_n profess_v &_o confess_v &_o witness_v this_o his_o confession_n for_o these_o two_o be_v to_o be_v distinguish_v there_o be_v confession_n which_o be_v the_o matter_n &_o there_o be_v witness_v that_o be_v the_o fact_n so_o that_o we_o be_v to_o consider_v his_o confession_n &_o the_o witness_v of_o it_o &_o the_o place_n where_o that_o it_o be_v even_o their_o vanity_n as_o first_o they_o be_v man_n of_o corrupt_a mind_n the_o second_o be_v they_o be_v destitute_a of_o the_o truth_n the_o 3._o be_v this_o they_o suppose_v gain_n be_v godliness_n and_o the_o apostle_n do_v manifest_a that_o this_o show_v it_o to_o be_v the_o plain_a contrary_n and_o that_o godliness_n be_v great_a gain_n and_o this_o he_o show_v by_o a_o strong_a argument_n in_o the_o verse_n follow_v and_o he_o labour_v to_o draw_v all_o pastor_n from_o this_o vice_n of_o coveteousnesse_n and_o he_o teach_v they_o how_o they_o shall_v exercise_v themselves_o continual_o he_o set_v down_o a_o perfect_a pattern_n for_o all_o pastor_n and_o teacher_n to_o practice_n they_o must_v follow_v after_o godliness_n faith_n love_n meekness_n and_o this_o be_v the_o first_o second_o they_o must_v fight_v the_o good_a fight_n of_o faith_n and_o the_o last_o be_v the_o end_n and_o intent_n that_o they_o may_v lay_v hold_n on_o eternal_a life_n and_o he_o subjoin_v 2._o reason_n why_o timothy_n shall_v do_v so_o as_o first_o because_o he_o be_v call_v thereunto_o of_o god_n second_o because_o he_o have_v profess_v a_o good_a profession_n before_o many_o witness_n therefore_o it_o shall_v be_v a_o shame_n for_o he_o to_o faint_v and_o not_o to_o go_v forward_o and_o continue_v now_o the_o apostle_n conclude_v with_o a_o most_o weighty_a charge_n to_o timothy_n and_o in_o his_o person_n unto_o all_o pastor_n and_o teacher_n unto_o the_o end_n of_o the_o world_n and_o this_o charge_n be_v continue_v in_o 4_o verse_n from_o the_o 13_o verse_n unto_o the_o 17._o and_o the_o substance_n of_o the_o charge_n stand_v in_o two_o thing_n the_o first_o be_v in_o keep_v of_o this_o commandment_n without_o spot_n unrebukeable_o and_o the_o second_o be_v the_o constant_a keep_n of_o it_o the_o first_o part_n concern_v the_o matter_n he_o be_v to_o look_v unto_o the_o 2_o be_v concern_v the_o time_n how_o long_o they_o must_v keep_v this_o and_o both_o part_n have_v their_o ground_n and_o reason_n in_o they_o first_o we_o will_v speak_v of_o they_o as_o they_o be_v general_o set_v down_o unto_o we_o in_o the_o first_o &_o 2_o verse_n wherein_o we_o have_v first_o to_o mark_v the_o matter_n of_o the_o charge_n the_o word_n charge_n be_v the_o sane_a word_n which_o the_o apostle_n use_v before_o in_o this_o epistle_n the_o first_o chapter_n wherein_o he_o say_v that_o the_o end_n of_o the_o commandment_n be_v love_n out_o of_o a_o pure_a heart_n where_o the_o word_n here_o call_v a_o commandment_n be_v the_o same_o here_o use_v for_o charge_n so_o that_o this_o be_v not_o a_o exhortation_n or_o request_n but_o it_o be_v a_o straight_a and_o severe_a commandment_n second_o this_o commandment_n be_v strengthen_v by_o a_o double_a authority_n the_o authority_n of_o god_n and_o of_o christ_n first_o i_o charge_v thou_o before_o god_n and_o second_o before_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n three_o this_o authority_n be_v yet_o more_o strengthen_v and_o great_a weyght_n be_v add_v to_o it_o not_o simple_o by_o lay_v god_n or_o christ_n before_o they_o but_o by_o lay_v god_n before_o he_o and_o christ_n before_o he_o each_o of_o they_o in_o the_o particular_a consideration_n of_o they_o which_o be_v this_o that_o he_o do_v quicken_v all_o thing_n the_o particular_a consideration_n of_o christ_n in_o this_o that_o he_o witness_v and_o confess_v a_o good_a confession_n before_o pontius_n pilate_n of_o these_o i_o will_v brief_o speak_v before_o i_o come_v to_o the_o commandment_n itself_o which_o be_v set_v down_o in_o the_o next_o word_n to_o keep_v this_o commandment_n without_o spot_n or_o blameless_a till_o christ_n appear_v again_o first_o concern_v the_o charge_n but_o before_o we_o come_v to_o enter_v into_o the_o particular_n of_o it_o it_o may_v be_v demand_v what_o shall_v move_v the_o apostle_n to_o add_v this_o heavy_a charge_n to_o his_o former_a precept_n especial_o to_o timothy_n who_o he_o so_o much_o commend_v that_o be_v find_v no_o man_n like_o mind_a unto_o he_o what_o be_v the_o reason_n he_o know_v he_o to_o be_v such_o a_o man_n yet_o he_o give_v a_o severe_a charge_n unto_o timothy_n and_o in_o his_o person_n to_o all_o pastor_n and_o teacher_n the_o reason_n i_o take_v to_o be_v twofold_a first_o that_o man_n may_v not_o dally_v with_o this_o doctrine_n as_o though_o it_o may_v be_v alterable_a by_o his_o church_n or_o change_v at_o the_o appointment_n of_o prince_n therefore_o he_o will_v have_v they_o to_o know_v this_o be_v not_o so_o but_o it_o be_v of_o divine_a authority_n which_o none_o dare_v to_o change_v as_o he_o will_v answer_v unto_o god_n and_o to_o christ_n in_o who_o name_n he_o charge_v he_o that_o so_o neither_o timothy_n nor_o any_o other_o potentate_n shall_v think_v these_o precept_n to_o be_v the_o precept_n of_o man_n or_o such_o as_o his_o church_n may_v alter_v at_o their_o discretion_n but_o this_o charge_n be_v give_v we_o to_o this_o end_n to_o force_v we_o all_o and_o most_o chief_o pastor_n to_o observe_v it_o as_o we_o will_v answer_v it_o before_o god_n at_o his_o most_o dreadful_a judgement_n therefore_o no_o command_n of_o prince_n nor_o the_o fear_n of_o the_o loss_n of_o our_o life_n may_v cause_v we_o to_o violate_v this_o truth_n the_o second_o reason_n why_o the_o apostle_n give_v this_o weighty_a charge_n unto_o timothy_n who_o be_v so_o rare_a a_o man_n of_o who_o steadfastness_n
his_o gospel_n these_o thing_n be_v write_v that_o you_o may_v believe_v these_o thing_n we_o witness_v and_o these_o thing_n we_o know_v be_v true_a o_o will_v to_o god_n pastor_n will_v speak_v of_o nothing_o to_o god_n people_n but_o that_o they_o know_v to_o be_v god_n will_v and_o not_o to_o teach_v man_n foolish_a fancy_n but_o god_n truth_n only_o for_o that_o will_v make_v we_o free_a as_o christ_n say_v in_o the_o 17._o of_o john_n if_o you_o abide_v in_o my_o word_n 17._o the_o truth_n shall_v make_v you_o free_a so_o that_o our_o freedom_n in_o god_n sight_n proceed_v from_o his_o truth_n and_o he_o which_o teach_v falsehood_n can_v keep_v himself_o from_o bondage_n do_v what_o he_o can_v the_o last_o point_n of_o this_o confession_n be_v this_o who_o so_o ever_o be_v of_o the_o truth_n hear_v my_o voice_n this_o may_v have_v be_v think_v a_o very_a proud_a word_n of_o christ_n at_o that_o time_n for_o he_o tell_v pilate_n to_o his_o face_n that_o he_o have_v no_o part_n in_o the_o truth_n what_o mean_v he_o by_o the_o truth_n certain_o the_o word_n of_o god_n which_o be_v the_o immortal_a seed_n to_o beget_v man_n to_o be_v the_o son_n of_o god_n this_o be_v that_o christ_n call_v the_o child_n of_o wisdom_n say_v wisdom_n be_v justify_v of_o her_o child_n this_o than_o be_v the_o 4._o part_n of_o christ_n confession_n which_o he_o do_v bold_o witness_v even_o before_o the_o judge_n who_o have_v power_n to_o take_v his_o life_n from_o he_o even_o to_o tell_v he_o to_o his_o face_n that_o he_o have_v no_o part_n in_o the_o truth_n because_o he_o hearken_v not_o to_o his_o voice_n thus_o you_o see_v the_o substance_n of_o christ_n confession_n let_v we_o now_o see_v if_o it_o concern_v not_o we_o in_o every_o point_n &_o that_o as_o be_v minister_n to_o follow_v his_o example_n there_o be_v many_o thing_n that_o we_o be_v to_o confess_v but_o the_o substance_n of_o it_o be_v this_o which_o christ_n confess_v which_o we_o must_v keep_v and_o observe_v to_o the_o loss_n of_o our_o life_n &_o where_o in_o stand_v the_o faithfulness_n of_o a_o pastor_n according_a to_o the_o example_n of_o christ_n when_o no_o fear_n to_o loose_v our_o life_n will_v make_v we_o to_o conceal_v or_o to_o deny_v any_o part_n of_o god_n truth_n but_o we_o will_v witness_v it_o free_o &_o faithful_o and_o if_o this_o be_v among_o we_o at_o this_o day_n there_o will_v not_o be_v find_v such_o eorrupt_n of_o his_o truth_n in_o the_o house_n of_o god_n as_o there_o now_o be_v there_o will_v not_o be_v such_o vain_a invention_n of_o man_n in_o the_o house_n of_o god_n as_o there_o be_v pastor_n dare_v not_o deny_v his_o truth_n as_o they_o do_v if_o they_o make_v conscience_n of_o this_o charge_n to_o be_v short_a i_o will_v add_v one_o word_n more_o &_o so_o end_n that_o be_v from_o the_o circumstance_n of_o the_o place_n where_o he_o do_v make_v this_o confession_n and_o that_o be_v under_o pontius_n pilate_n even_o when_o he_o be_v arraign_v and_o accuse_v and_o the_o sentence_n of_o death_n be_v ready_a to_o be_v pronounce_v against_o he_o so_o as_o there_o be_v no_o escape_n for_o he_o yet_o the_o fear_n of_o the_o judge_n never_o terrify_v he_o nor_o keep_v he_o from_o witness_v that_o he_o be_v the_o son_n of_o god_n this_o be_v that_o the_o apostle_n will_v have_v we_o to_o consider_v it_o be_v a_o easy_a matter_n for_o a_o pastor_n that_o have_v liberty_n as_o i_o have_v now_o to_o speak_v free_o unto_o a_o people_n which_o have_v no_o power_n over_o my_o life_n but_o when_o a_o pastor_n must_v answer_v for_o it_o before_o king_n &_o be_v in_o danger_n of_o his_o life_n then_o to_o stand_v to_o it_o there_o be_v the_o trial_n of_o a_o faithful_a pastor_n a_o faithful_a pastor_n must_v do_v this_o although_o it_o be_v before_o pont._n pil._n a_o faithful_a pastor_n must_v do_v this_o he_o must_v not_o shrink_v for_o the_o terror_n of_o the_o flesh_n but_o we_o must_v open_o bear_v witness_n to_o the_o truth_n of_o god_n so_o the_o circumstance_n of_o the_o danger_n of_o the_o place_n where_o christ_n do_v this_o be_v that_o we_o be_v to_o lay_v before_o we_o how_o many_o be_v there_o of_o we_o that_o all_o though_o we_o have_v preach_v the_o truth_n of_o christ_n yet_o if_o it_o come_v to_o this_o that_o either_o we_o must_v change_v our_o mind_n or_o loose_v our_o live_n how_o many_o be_v there_o that_o base_o falsify_v the_o truth_n of_o god_n because_o they_o will_v not_o loose_v the_o favour_n of_o the_o king_n or_o of_o some_o great_a man_n yea_o they_o will_v rather_o falsify_v the_o truth_n of_o god_n for_o ever_o how_o many_o such_o be_v there_o to_o be_v find_v in_o this_o age_n that_o contrary_a to_o their_o knowledge_n &_o conscience_n do_v bear_v witness_n to_o falsehood_n and_o lie_n only_o to_o uphould_v they_o in_o their_o live_n and_o in_o the_o favour_n of_o man_n let_v these_o man_n think_v of_o that_o sentence_n the_o apostle_n do_v speak_v of_o where_o he_o say_v you_o have_v not_o resist_v unto_o blood_n where_o the_o apostle_n account_v it_o a_o base_a thing_n in_o a_o christian_a that_o will_v deny_v the_o truth_n when_o or_o before_o it_o come_v unto_o blood_n i_o say_v it_o be_v a_o happy_a thing_n if_o professor_n nay_o if_o pastor_n will_v stand_v unto_o the_o truth_n till_o it_o come_v unto_o blood_n that_o other_o allurement_n do_v not_o draw_v they_o from_o the_o truth_n the_o contrary_a hereof_o do_v declare_v how_o few_o faithful_a pastors_n god_n have_v in_o his_o church_n and_o thus_o much_o for_o the_o circumstance_n of_o the_o place_n and_o of_o the_o danger_n that_o christ_n be_v in_o when_o he_o make_v this_o good_a confession_n under_o pontius_n pilate_n let_v we_o make_v use_n of_o all_o here_o we_o see_v that_o of_o all_o whatsoever_o be_v write_v or_o speak_v in_o the_o gospel_n concerinng_a christ_n the_o pastor_n that_o above_o all_o we_o shall_v lay_v this_o confession_n of_o christ_n before_o our_o eye_n for_o the_o carriage_n of_o christ_n before_o pontius_n pilate_n be_v a_o lively_a pattern_n for_o all_o minister_n to_o follow_v and_o it_o be_v set_v down_o not_o only_o to_o let_v we_o see_v the_o manner_n of_o our_o redemption_n but_o it_o be_v likewise_o to_o teach_v pastor_n to_o know_v their_o duty_n and_o to_o teach_v they_o how_o to_o walk_v in_o god_n house_n to_o maintain_v his_o truth_n when_o god_n shall_v call_v they_o to_o suffer_v the_o not_o consideration_n of_o this_o make_v many_o pastor_n and_o christian_n careless_a of_o their_o duty_n because_o they_o look_v not_o upon_o christ_n for_o their_o pattern_n the_o lord_n of_o his_o mercy_n give_v pastors_n grace_n that_o they_o may_v follow_v he_o as_o in_o all_o thing_n so_o in_o this_o constancy_n of_o maintain_v his_o truth_n amen_n vers_fw-la 14._o sermon_n that_o thou_o keep_v this_o commandemt_fw-mi without_o spot_n unrebukable_a until_o the_o appear_a of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n his_o witness_v a_o good_a confession_n before_o pontius_n pilate_n now_o it_o follow_v that_o we_o shall_v speak_v of_o those_o thing_n wherewithal_o pastor_n stand_v charge_v what_o the_o matter_n be_v which_o be_v of_o this_o high_a moment_n which_o the_o apostle_n do_v lay_v with_o such_o authority_n upon_o all_o pastor_n &_o teacher_n &_o this_o be_v lay_v down_o in_o this_o verse_n in_o these_o word_n that_o thou_o keep_v this_o commandment_n without_o spott_n unrebukeable_a until_o the_o appear_a of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n this_o be_v the_o matter_n the_o keep_n of_o this_o commandment_n and_o the_o keep_n of_o it_o without_o spott_n unrekukeable_a and_o continue_v this_o till_o christ_n appear_v again_o now_o to_o encourage_v all_o pastor_n and_o teacher_n in_o the_o performance_n of_o this_o duty_n which_o must_v last_v till_o christ_n appear_v again_o he_o set_v we_o down_o the_o assurance_n of_o his_o come_n again_o in_o the_o next_o verse_n to_o keep_v we_o that_o
