congruous_a both_o from_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o vision_n itself_o and_o from_o the_o follow_a example_n of_o the_o prophecy_n of_o the_o seven_o seal_n and_o the_o open_a book_n we_o shall_v premise_v in_o the_o second_o place_n that_o as_o it_o be_v conspicuous_a that_o four_o of_o the_o name_n of_o these_o seven_o church_n be_v direct_o significant_a of_o some_o state_n and_o condition_n they_o be_v in_o viz._n smyrna_n pergamus_n philadelphia_n and_o laodicea_n so_o it_o be_v exceed_o credible_a that_o the_o other_o three_o name_n may_v allude_v to_o some_o thing_n that_o may_v set_v out_o their_o nature_n and_o condition_n also_o viz._n ephesus_n thyatira_n and_o sardis_n as_o we_o shall_v take_v more_o express_a notice_n in_o the_o process_n of_o our_o exposition_n last_o which_o may_v as_o well_o if_o not_o better_a have_v be_v note_v at_o first_o this_o more_o mystical_a sense_n which_o we_o be_v now_o a-rendring_a of_o the_o seven_o church_n do_v not_o at_o all_o clash_n with_o the_o literal_a sense_n of_o the_o same_o nor_o exclude_v that_o useful_a applicability_n of_o they_o for_o the_o reproof_n or_o praise_n of_o any_o church_n particular_a in_o any_o time_n or_o age_n of_o the_o christian_a world_n that_o be_v for_o the_o like_a thing_n obnoxious_a or_o commendable_a but_o the_o distinct_a providence_n of_o god_n and_o his_o watchfulness_n and_o foresight_n of_o the_o affair_n of_o his_o church_n may_v haply_o be_v more_o illustrate_v and_o display_v by_o this_o mystical_a way_n of_o exposition_n then_o by_o that_o literal_a or_o moral_a 2._o we_o will_v therefore_o distinguish_v the_o whole_a duration_n of_o the_o church_n of_o christ_n especial_o so_o far_o forth_o as_o it_o be_v within_o the_o limit_n of_o the_o roman_a empire_n which_o also_o the_o other_o prophecy_n in_o the_o apocalypse_n seem_v chief_o to_o regard_v into_o seven_o intervall_n and_o will_v suppose_v the_o first_o interval_n to_o end_v where_o the_o second_o begin_v viz._n in_o the_o ten_o year_n of_o nero_n or_o anno_fw-la christi_fw-la 63._o 3._o which_o period_n therefore_o of_o the_o ephesine_n church_n end_v so_o early_o even_o about_o person_n past_a as_o if_o they_o be_v present_a to_o be_v write_v to_o and_o that_o for_o uniformity_n sake_n in_o the_o form_n of_o a_o epistle_n as_o what_o be_v pass_v in_o history_n under_o the_o form_n of_o prophetical_a vision_n as_o the_o rider_n of_o the_o white_a horse_n which_o be_v the_o first_o in_o the_o vision_n of_o the_o seal_n though_o the_o representation_n be_v of_o what_o be_v partly_o past_a and_o partly_o present_a but_o what_o be_v to_o come_v be_v the_o proper_a object_n of_o all_o vision_n prophetical_a but_o now_o beside_o all_o this_o in_o the_o literal_a sense_n
