will_v be_v his_o peculiar_a people_n as_o they_o be_v and_o what_o then_o can_v stand_v in_o the_o way_n man_n doubt_v god_n and_o his_o word_n do_v not_o real_o believe_v he_o to_o be_v a_o god_n of_o truth_n when_o they_o read_v all_o the_o promise_v he_o have_v make_v to_o obedience_n and_o yet_o think_v they_o shall_v not_o be_v make_v good_a to_o those_o who_o sincere_o devote_v themselves_o to_o it_o let_v this_o therefore_o be_v the_o first_o thing_n it_o be_v the_o foundation_n on_o which_o heaven_n itself_o subsist_v and_o nothing_o can_v ever_o shake_v it_o that_o god_n the_o lord_n god_n be_v the_o great_a lawgiver_n it_o be_v his_o work_n that_o of_o the_o law_n which_o the_o magistrate_n engage_v in_o and_o heaven_n and_o earth_n may_v pass_v away_o but_o one_o tittle_n or_o jota_n of_o it_o shall_v never_o fail_v fail_v not_o we_o in_o the_o duty_n the_o reward_n the_o happiness_n and_o success_n that_o must_v attend_v it_o be_v sure_a again_o two_o it_o be_v make_v up_o for_o the_o most_o part_n of_o the_o most_o servile_a and_o mercenary_a part_n of_o mankind_n and_o apt_a to_o be_v seduce_v what_o i_o say_v be_v this_o but_o true_o to_o discipline_n they_o for_o service_n for_o who_o be_v most_o like_a to_o go_v on_o brave_o upon_o any_o attempt_n the_o debauch_a and_o profane_a who_o always_o carry_v with_o they_o that_o enemy_n which_o will_v be_v too_o strong_a for_o they_o in_o the_o guilt_n that_o can_v but_o amaze_v when_o in_o the_o purlieu_n of_o death_n or_o the_o good_a and_o virtuous_a that_o fear_v nothing_o but_o god_n and_o go_v on_o in_o the_o assurance_n of_o victory_n in_o this_o or_o triumph_n and_o glory_n in_o another_o life_n beside_o temperance_n sobriety_n and_o the_o like_a what_o be_v they_o but_o easy_a execution_n his_o law_n will_v find_v there_o where_o all_o that_o be_v profess_v be_v obedience_n to_o his_o will_n to_o live_v or_o die_v at_o his_o command_n the_o reward_n of_o officer_n be_v certain_o as_o fair_a temptation_n to_o be_v good_a as_o to_o be_v bad_a and_o the_o influence_n their_o authority_n and_o good_a example_n must_v have_v on_o the_o private_a soldier_n be_v what_o there_o be_v no_o dispute_v and_o let_v the_o prince_n but_o be_v sure_a he_o engage_v they_o not_o but_o in_o a_o good_a cause_n and_o what_o be_v there_o such_o will_v not_o attempt_v alas_o it_o be_v heaven_n and_o its_o crown_n for_o which_o they_o fight_v and_o they_o have_v too_o much_o sense_n of_o glory_n to_o neglect_v such_o a_o prize_n let_v the_o profane_a fool_n bluster_v and_o swagger_v high_a but_o the_o fear_n of_o that_o hell_n of_o which_o every_o danger_n be_v the_o brink_n will_v damp_n they_o when_o they_o come_v to_o action_n and_o the_o prince_n may_v as_o well_o trust_v the_o master_n he_o let_v they_o serve_v the_o devil_n himself_o i_o mean_v as_o those_o who_o in_o all_o they_o do_v live_v as_o if_o they_o be_v immediate_o act_v by_o he_o such_o man_n the_o best_a cause_n itself_o will_v but_o very_o little_a help_n out_o because_o it_o be_v not_o their_o cause_n it_o be_v only_a sin_n and_o hell_n that_o they_o serve_v and_o whatever_o the_o cause_n be_v they_o die_v in_o there_o it_o be_v they_o can_v but_o expect_v their_o pay_n this_o therefore_o will_v be_v attempt_v with_o respect_n to_o they_o as_o for_o the_o interest_n of_o the_o prince_n so_o of_o all_o who_o be_v concern_v in_o their_o success_n and_o for_o the_o reclaim_n of_o other_o the_o great_a corruption_n of_o who_o manner_n
respect_n to_o the_o law_n grant_v the_o comment_n obligation_n and_o advantage_n of_o it_o to_o be_v as_o this_o discourse_n import_v grant_v too_o that_o no_o pretence_n of_o be_v of_o a_o better_a or_o more_o strict_a religion_n than_o other_o will_v compensate_a any_o defect_n here_o nor_o yet_o that_o any_o other_o expedient_a will_v help_v out_o where_o obedience_n to_o this_o be_v want_v yet_o still_o this_o will_v not_o so_o satisfy_v but_o that_o something_o will_v be_v expect_v to_o be_v say_v with_o reference_n to_o the_o right_n or_o title_n of_o those_o who_o have_v this_o in_o charge_n the_o guardian_n of_o this_o law_n but_o this_o be_v what_o i_o intermeddle_v not_o with_o nor_o be_v it_o material_a to_o our_o question_n we_o shall_v for_o which_o most_o import_v we_o i_o speak_v with_o reference_n to_o god_n and_o our_o own_o conscience_n to_o dispute_v the_o title_n of_o those_o god_n have_v set_v over_o we_o or_o to_o yield_v obedience_n to_o his_o law_n of_o which_o there_o be_v no_o dispute_n beside_o be_v it_o for_o every_o subject_a to_o be_v the_o judge_n or_o arbitrator_n of_o what_o be_v so_o much_o above_o he_o if_o so_o he_o be_v then_o not_o earth_n because_o thus_o take_v upon_o he_o to_o suspend_v his_o obedience_n to_o his_o law_n for_o it_o be_v as_o if_o his_o private_a opinion_n and_o sense_n of_o thing_n can_v at_o any_o time_n make_v it_o void_a no_o whatever_o be_v the_o title_n of_o he_o who_o require_v our_o obedience_n yet_o let_v we_o be_v sure_a to_o set_v god_n on_o the_o throne_n let_v we_o give_v that_o honour_n to_o his_o law_n which_o be_v eternal_a as_o not_o to_o think_v that_o any_o thing_n can_v supersede_n the_o duty_n of_o his_o creature_n to_o it_o it_o be_v duty_n to_o this_o we_o call_v for_o from_o prince_n and_o people_n and_o reserve_v the_o decision_n of_o such_o difference_n that_o may_v occur_v as_o among_o prince_n themselves_o so_o among_o their_o subject_n with_o respect_n to_o such_o a_o right_n reserve_v i_o say_v the_o dicision_n hereof_o to_o his_o providence_n who_o for_o what_o reason_n he_o best_a know_v put_v down_o one_o and_o set_v up_o another_o psal_n 75.7_o agreeable_a to_o this_o standard_n have_v he_o the_o security_n of_o enjoy_v his_o property_n whilst_o himself_o conform_v to_o the_o rule_n of_o it_o may_v he_o go_v on_o quiet_o and_o peaceable_o in_o his_o duty_n hereby_o prescribe_v to_o god_n and_o his_o neighbour_n and_o what_o have_v he_o to_o do_v to_o disturb_v the_o prince_n and_o interest_n his_o title_n in_o the_o case_n or_o what_o on_o the_o other_o hand_n have_v the_o prince_n to_o disturb_v he_o whilst_o he_o thus_o behave_v himself_o or_o after_o all_o do_v any_o thing_n stick_v with_o the_o subject_a so_o that_o he_o can_v so_o well_o satisfy_v himself_o in_o all_o point_n of_o right_a let_v he_o be_v sure_a he_o have_v no_o hand_n in_o what_o he_o be_v not_o thorough_o persuade_v of_o but_o let_v he_o be_v sure_a too_o that_o god_n be_v to_o be_v love_v and_o worship_v under_o all_o government_n the_o duty_n he_o owe_v to_o his_o neighbour_n be_v to_o be_v perform_v whatever_o be_v the_o power_n to_o exact_v it_o but_o still_o it_o will_v be_v hard_a to_o reach_v every_o one_o scruple_n and_o if_o nothing_o of_o this_o obstruct_v yet_o may_v not_o the_o prince_n be_v of_o a_o different_a religion_n as_o whether_o protestant_a or_o papist_n that_o will_v be_v all_o one_o to_o those_o who_o be_v of_o the_o other_o persuasion_n give_v the_o subject_a reason_n to_o think_v that_o such_o be_v too_o high_o attaint_v with_o the_o breach_n of_o this_o law_n to_o expect_v their_o compliance_n with_o it_o but_o neither_o be_v that_o the_o case_n it_o be_v not_o what_o prejudice_n will_v on_o either_o hand_n suggest_v not_o what_o we_o but_o the_o law_n speak_v nor_o yet_o what_o the_o prince_n be_v but_o what_o he_o will_v be_v be_v this_o his_o measure_n but_o after_o all_o how_o shall_v man_n be_v persuade_v to_o act_v by_o this_o measure_n why_o if_o interest_n the_o politic_a reason_n of_o all_o mankind_n prevail_v not_o with_o they_o i_o know_v not_o what_o will_v it_o be_v the_o concern_n of_o the_o prince_n that_o god_n shall_v hold_v the_o sceptre_n in_o his_o hand_n it_o be_v the_o concern_n of_o the_o subject_a that_o he_o shall_v give_v they_o peace_n if_o this_o be_v no_o motive_n then_o let_v strife_n and_o division_n heat_n and_o animosity_n injustice_n oppression_n disorder_n confusion_n and_o every_o evil_a work_n take_v place_n but_o what_o a_o shame_n be_v it_o it_o shall_v do_v so_o when_o the_o remedy_n be_v so_o certain_a and_o all_o that_o we_o plead_v for_o be_v no_o other_o law_n than_o what_o be_v write_v in_o every_o one_o of_o our_o heart_n what_o too_o though_o it_o do_v not_o take_v so_o deep_a root_n as_o it_o ought_v there_o yet_o if_o make_v but_o to_o reach_v the_o outward_a action_n will_v so_o high_o advance_v religion_n property_n and_o liberty_n because_o restrain_v those_o exorbitance_n which_o alone_o can_v disturb_v these_o which_o i_o note_v not_o that_o i_o will_v hereby_o persuade_v any_o to_o be_v hypocrite_n as_o if_o it_o be_v sufficient_a for_o prince_n or_o people_n to_o rest_v in_o a_o external_a obedience_n to_o the_o command_n but_o to_o show_v the_o unreasonableness_n of_o those_o man_n who_o because_o it_o be_v not_o in_o the_o power_n of_o the_o prince_n to_o reach_v the_o heart_n of_o those_o under_o his_o government_n be_v apt_a to_o infer_v that_o therefore_o neither_o shall_v he_o be_v so_o solicitous_a of_o make_v man_n outward_o good_a as_o also_o the_o inexcusableness_n of_o those_o in_o power_n if_o have_v such_o sure_a rule_n of_o policy_n as_o what_o be_v contain_v in_o the_o divine_a law_n they_o shall_v seek_v to_o any_o other_o politic_n and_o to_o those_o who_o shall_v still_o do_v it_o i_o shall_v only_o offer_v the_o word_n of_o the_o prophet_n to_o the_o messenger_n
