devour_v their_o enemy_n that_o be_v the_o word_n of_o their_o prophecy_n shall_v bring_v as_o certain_a destruction_n upon_o their_o injurious_a enemy_n as_o elias_n his_o word_n bring_v fire_n from_o heaven_n upon_o those_o that_o be_v send_v to_o take_v he_o and_o therefore_o the_o word_n be_v here_o double_a as_o before_o be_v note_v for_o the_o certainty_n of_o it_o as_o be_v 41._o be_v gen._n 41._o pharaoh_n dream_n again_o it_o be_v say_v here_o these_o have_v power_n to_o shut_v heaven_n that_o it_o rain_v not_o in_o the_o day_n of_o their_o prophecy_n this_o also_o allude_v to_o elias_n who_o word_n of_o prophecy_n do_v shut_v up_o the_o heaven_n that_o it_o rain_v not_o for_o the_o space_n of_o three_o year_n and_o a_o half_a in_o the_o time_n of_o ahabs_n reign_n so_o as_o here_o again_o be_v set_v forth_o the_o power_n of_o these_o two_o witness_n prophesy_v in_o bring_v judgement_n upon_o the_o land_n where_o god_n word_n be_v not_o receive_v and_o entertain_v in_o that_o love_n and_o respect_n as_o it_o ought_v to_o be_v but_o that_o the_o witness_n even_o for_o no_o other_o cause_n but_o the_o word_n sake_n which_o they_o prophesy_v be_v injurious_o and_o violent_o handle_v against_o all_o law_n and_o justice_n yea_o and_o all_o humanity_n in_o all_o best_a iall_a cruelty_n and_o therefore_o no_o marvel_n if_o in_o the_o time_n of_o their_o prophecy_n be_v thus_o evil_a entreat_v manifold_a judgement_n in_o sundry_a kind_n do_v fall_v upon_o a_o land_n as_o the_o sword_n famine_n pestilence_n or_o the_o like_a yea_o and_o if_o god_n send_v extraordinary_a foul_a weather_n in_o a_o extreme_a abundance_n of_o a_o long_a continue_a rain_n and_o that_o against_o harvest_n as_o we_o have_v see_v late_o this_o very_a last_o summer_n in_o england_n so_o as_o the_o harvest_n suffer_v much_o damage_n thereby_o it_o be_v good_a that_o they_o shall_v inquire_v and_o consider_v what_o be_v the_o cause_n that_o have_v so_o of_o late_o provoke_v god_n to_o send_v forth_o from_o heaven_n so_o many_o token_n of_o his_o wrath_n and_o indignation_n threaten_v even_o desolation_n to_o the_o whole_a land_n if_o they_o repent_v not_o be_v there_o no_o witness_n abroad_o at_o this_o time_n or_o have_v not_o england_n defile_v itself_o with_o the_o violent_a and_o lawless_a cruelty_n of_o shed_v the_o innocent_a blood_n of_o some_o at_o least_o of_o christ_n witness_n if_o it_o be_v so_o as_o england_n can_v neither_o wash_v her_o hand_n from_o the_o guilt_n nor_o stop_v the_o ear_n of_o heaven_n from_o the_o hideous_a cry_n of_o that_o innocent_a blood_n no_o marvel_n i_o say_v if_o england_n be_v many_o way_n plague_v for_o these_o witness_n have_v power_n to_o shut_v heaven_n that_o it_o rain_v not_o in_o the_o day_n of_o their_o prophecy_n as_o elias_n do_v not_o only_o so_o but_o they_o have_v also_o power_n over_o water_n to_o turn_v they_o to_o blood_n and_o to_o smite_v the_o earth_n with_o all_o plague_n as_o often_o as_o they_o wil._n these_o word_n have_v a_o allusion_n to_o moses_n as_o we_o say_v before_o who_o in_o egypt_n have_v power_n give_v he_o of_o god_n with_o his_o rod_n to_o turn_v their_o water_n into_o blood_n and_o so_o smite_v the_o land_n with_o manifold_a plague_n and_o here_o seem_v to_o be_v more_o couch_v then_o so_o in_o this_o parallel_n of_o these_o two_o witness_n power_n to_o that_o of_o moses_n and_o aaron_n for_o the_o word_n here_o imply_v thus_o much_o that_o as_o those_o many_o plague_n which_o moses_n bring_v upon_o egypt_n by_o his_o rod_n &_o word_n of_o prophecy_n be_v so_o many_o forerunner_n of_o the_o utter_a desolation_n of_o hard-hearted_a pharaoh_n &_o his_o obstinate_a egyptian_n who_o will_v not_o suffer_v god_n people_n to_o go_v sacrifice_n to_o the_o lord_n their_o god_n so_o those_o many_o token_n of_o god_n wrath_n which_o have_v be_v pour_v upon_o england_n of_o late_a day_n for_o their_o sore_a afflict_a &_o oppress_v of_o god_n people_n by_o the_o prelate_n and_o their_o officer_n those_o egyptian_a taskmaster_n &_o not_o suffer_v they_o to_o enjoy_v that_o freedom_n &_o liberty_n of_o conscience_n which_o christ_n have_v by_o his_o precious_a blood_n purchase_v for_o they_o but_o hold_v their_o nose_n to_o the_o grindstone_n as_o we_o say_v and_o enslave_v they_o to_o the_o egyptian_a task_n in_o the_o observation_n of_o those_o many_o popish_a ceremony_n so_o tyrannical_o impose_v and_o press_v upon_o they_o as_o also_o for_o that_o most_o impious_a cry_v down_o of_o the_o sanctification_n of_o the_o sabbath_n and_o stop_v minister_n mouth_n for_o preach_v the_o sincere_a word_n of_o god_n throw_v they_o out_o of_o their_o ministry_n and_o many_o such_o like_a worse_o than_o egyptian_a outrage_n and_o such_o as_o be_v never_o do_v in_o any_o christian_a state_n since_o the_o apostle_n time_n to_o this_o present_a those_o token_n i_o say_v do_v plain_o show_v that_o without_o speedy_a repentance_n and_o a_o thorough_a reformation_n of_o these_o intolerable_a iniquity_n god_n will_v certain_o bring_v the_o taskmaster_n to_o desolation_n and_o in_o the_o same_o sea_n of_o destruction_n to_o the_o egyptian_n will_v make_v a_o way_n for_o his_o people_n liberty_n from_o that_o egyptian_a bondage_n wherein_o they_o have_v be_v so_o long_o so_o miserable_o captive_v nor_o let_v it_o seem_v strange_a that_o i_o match_n england_n taskmaster_n with_o those_o of_o egypt_n for_o by_o and_o by_o we_o shall_v find_v a_o spiritual_a egypt_n whereof_o that_o in_o england_n will_v hardly_o acquit_v itself_o from_o be_v apart_o or_o party_n at_o least_o if_o all_o circumstance_n be_v but_o well_o weigh_v and_o so_o we_o pass_v to_o the_o verse_n follow_v 7._o verse_n 7._o verse_n 7._o and_o when_o they_o shall_v have_v finish_v their_o testimony_n the_o beast_n that_o ascend_v out_o of_o the_o bottomless_a pit_n shall_v make_v war_n against_o they_o and_o shall_v overcome_v they_o that_o despise_v i_o shall_v be_v light_o esteem_v now_o bless_v be_v our_o god_n for_o evermore_o for_o this_o his_o great_a and_o glorious_a work_n and_o he_o ever_o bless_v his_o king_n that_o as_o he_o have_v make_v he_o a_o mighty_a instrument_n thereof_o so_o he_o will_v strengthen_v he_o to_o the_o finish_n of_o that_o work_n which_o yet_o remain_v to_o be_v do_v in_o the_o purgation_n and_o reformation_n of_o his_o other_o kingdom_n that_o so_o he_o may_v prove_v the_o most_o glorious_a prince_n that_o ever_o reign_v in_o the_o christian_a world_n and_o it_o be_v say_v here_o and_o great_a fear_n fall_v upon_o they_o which_o see_v they_o that_o be_v when_o they_o on_o the_o beast_n side_n see_v those_o witness_n who_o the_o beast_n have_v cruel_o slay_v and_o who_o dead_a body_n they_o have_v barbarous_o use_v not_o suffer_v they_o to_o have_v common_a burial_n but_o insult_v and_o triumph_v over_o they_o now_o to_o be_v as_o it_o be_v revive_v and_o raise_v from_o the_o dead_a again_o when_o they_o behold_v such_o a_o wonderful_a increase_n to_o come_v of_o their_o blood_n so_o cruel_o shed_v such_o a_o spirit_n of_o life_n from_o god_n so_o to_o possess_v many_o other_o witness_n as_o those_o slay_n seem_v 1_o help_v 1_o here_o let_v the_o reader_n still_o remember_v that_o this_o treatise_n be_v write_v before_o his_o return_n from_o banishment_n and_o so_o towards_o london_n on_o that_o saturday_n the_o solemnity_n whereof_o be_v so_o conspicuous_a and_o glorious_a as_o it_o do_v without_o any_o other_o application_n even_o natural_o apply_v itself_o as_o if_o it_o be_v the_o most_o proper_a fulfil_n of_o this_o prophecy_n if_o either_o we_o consider_v the_o manner_n of_o that_o return_n or_o the_o effect_n it_o wrought_v in_o the_o adversary_n imagine_v that_o the_o slay_v or_o cruel_a handle_n of_o two_o or_o three_o prime_a witness_n make_v they_o sure_o as_o dead_a man_n will_v so_o have_v quell_v all_o the_o rest_n that_o not_o one_o dare_v ever_o after_o peep_n contrary_a to_o their_o expectation_n they_o see_v a_o generation_n of_o witness_n to_o rise_v up_o after_o they_o and_o so_o to_o affright_v their_o enemy_n as_o if_o they_o see_v a_o apparition_n of_o the_o ghost_n of_o the_o former_a witness_n return_v from_o the_o dead_a and_o if_o a_o man_n do_v now_o but_o feel_v the_o pulse_n of_o those_o prelate_n in_o england_n who_o have_v see_v their_o brethren_n prelate_n late_o of_o scotland_n to_o bâ—_n cast_v out_o of_o church_n and_o country_n and_o utter_o cashier_v without_o all_o hope_n of_o restitution_n enemy_n view_n set_v forth_o the_o admirable_a providence_n of_o god_n who_o will_v miraculous_o make_v his_o church_n a_o sure_a and_o safe_a sanctuary_n as_o heaven_n to_o his_o persecute_a once_o say_v when_o the_o kingdom_n of_o the_o beast_n that_o whore_n which_o yet_o desperate_o triumph_v in_o the_o confidence_n of_o her_o stately_a babylon_n 18.7_o babylon_n chap._n 18.7_o sit_v in_o her_o throne_n and_o say_v in_o her_o heart_n i_o sit_v a_o queen_n and_o be_o no_o widow_n and_o shall_v see_v no_o sorrow_n shall_v be_v destroy_v 8._o destroy_v verse_n 8._o who_o plague_n shall_v to_o contradict_v one_o another_o but_o be_v right_o understand_v there_o be_v no_o contradiction_n for_o first_o most_o sure_a it_o be_v that_o the_o ten_o king_n aforesaid_a shall_v hate_v the_o whore_n and_o be_v the_o instrument_n of_o her_o desolation_n god_n will_v sure_o bring_v his_o word_n to_o pass_v but_o yet_o some_o of_o those_o king_n may_v at_o first_o be_v bring_v to_o it_o against_o their_o will_n or_o with_o a_o ill_a will_n have_v be_v former_o so_o much_o enamour_v on_o the_o gay_a paint_a whore_n and_o make_v drink_v with_o the_o wine_n of_o her_o fornication_n we_o see_v those_o two_o milk-cow_n of_o the_o philistine_n by_o a_o strange_a instinct_n carry_v god_n ark_n to_o his_o place_n yet_o lowed_a all_o the_o way_n after_o their_o calf_n 1_o sam._n 6._o so_o the_o lord_n will_v have_v his_o work_n do_v upon_o the_o whore_n though_o some_o of_o the_o chief_a instrument_n may_v have_v still_o a_o yearning_n of_o affection_n after_o the_o whore_n for_o old_a acquaintance_n sake_n yet_o though_o some_o for_o their_o own_o person_n may_v do_v this_o for_o a_o time_n and_o because_o the_o whore_n fall_v with_o her_o goodly_a babylon_n notwithstanding_o because_o the_o king_n alone_o shall_v not_o make_v babylon_n desolate_a but_o their_o kingdom_n to_o wit_n their_o people_n take_v altogether_o therefore_o the_o particular_a pity_n of_o some_o for_o a_o time_n shall_v not_o hinder_v the_o general_a hatred_n of_o the_o whore_n and_o so_o the_o kingdom_n of_o this_o world_n main_o and_o universal_o shall_v become_v the_o kingdom_n of_o our_o lord_n and_o of_o his_o christ_n and_o this_o make_v desolate_a of_o the_o whore_n by_o the_o king_n and_o their_o people_n shall_v be_v with_o such_o violence_n of_o passion_n and_o zeal_n which_o god_n shall_v kindle_v in_o their_o heart_n and_o breast_n as_o when_o it_o be_v do_v they_o shall_v stand_v amaze_v to_o behold_v the_o smoke_n of_o her_o burn_a and_o spend_v some_o human_a compassion_n and_o pity_n upon_o those_o terrible_a and_o sudden_a desolation_n even_o as_o titus_n that_o noble_a roman_a general_n when_o through_o the_o obdurate_a obstinacy_n of_o the_o jew_n in_o their_o extreme_a misery_n his_o soldier_n be_v so_o enrage_v that_o not_o only_o the_o city_n jerusalem_n but_o the_o most_o beautiful_a temple_n itself_o be_v set_v on_o fire_n he_o behold_v it_o weep_v over_o it_o to_o see_v such_o a_o goodly_a and_o glorious_a building_n so_o miserable_o destroy_v the_o like_a compassion_n may_v even_o those_o king_n have_v in_o weep_v over_o babylon_n when_o they_o shall_v behold_v the_o ruin_n thereof_o wherein_o themselves_o notwithstanding_o with_o their_o people_n be_v the_o chief_a actor_n thus_o the_o same_o king_n who_o the_o lord_n shall_v employ_v in_o the_o make_n desolate_a of_o babylon_n may_v be_v move_v with_o humane_a compassion_n when_o they_o behold_v even_o those_o ruin_n which_o themselves_o by_o divine_a instigation_n have_v make_v and_o as_o the_o same_o titus_n though_o he_o cry_v to_o his_o soldier_n to_o save_v that_o glorious_a monument_n the_o temple_n and_o not_o to_o burn_v it_o and_o see_v it_o notwithstanding_o all_o on_o a_o flame_n cry_v out_o the_o more_o vehement_o to_o quench_v it_o but_o can_v not_o prevail_v to_o rescue_v it_o so_o the_o king_n of_o the_o earth_n when_o they_o shall_v see_v the_o smoke_n of_o babylon_n burn_a and_o shall_v thereupon_o be_v move_v to_o lament_v she_o say_v alas_o alas_o that_o great_a citiy_n babylon_n that_o mighty_a city_n yet_o such_o be_v the_o lord_n fury_n kindle_v against_o she_o that_o they_o shall_v not_o be_v able_a with_o all_o their_o power_n though_o they_o will_v never_o so_o fain_o to_o rescue_v she_o out_o of_o the_o flame_n for_o the_o lord_n will_v have_v it_o so_o and_o therefore_o as_o he_o have_v put_v in_o their_o mind_n to_o fulfil_v his_o will_n in_o give_v their_o strength_n and_o kingdom_n to_o the_o beast_n until_o the_o babylon_n and_o from_o this_o time_n christ_n shall_v reign_v for_o evermore_o over_o his_o people_n when_o the_o usurp_a beast_n with_o all_o his_o power_n shall_v be_v put_v down_o and_o so_o when_o all_o king_n prince_n and_o state_n shall_v submit_v their_o sceptre_n to_o christ_n authority_n as_o before_o be_v show_v then_o shall_v be_v great_a joy_n and_o thanksgiving_n in_o the_o church_n as_o verse_n 16.17_o and_o in_o the_o end_n of_o this_o last_o trumpet_n which_o how_o long_o it_o shall_v sound_v and_o the_o sound_v thereof_o last_o he_o only_o know_v 36._o act_n 1.7_o matth._n twenty_o chapter_n of_o this_o book_n but_o because_o they_o be_v very_o obscure_a and_o will_v require_v long_a time_n and_o strong_a prayer_n for_o assist_v and_o illuminate_v grace_n in_o the_o open_n of_o they_o therefore_o i_o will_v here_o put_v a_o end_n for_o the_o present_a till_o it_o shall_v please_v god_n to_o give_v a_o further_a opportunity_n in_o the_o mean_a time_n 11.17_o time_n chap._n 11.17_o we_o give_v thou_o thanks_o o_o lord_n god_n almighty_a which_o art_n and_o waste_v and_o be_v to_o come_v because_o thou_o have_v take_v to_o thou_o thy_o great_a power_n and_o have_v reign_v even_o so_o amen_o
