lift_v up_o the_o ark_n from_o the_o earth_n and_o by_o the_o water_n still_o increase_n it_o be_v bear_v up_o fifteen_o cubit_n above_o the_o top_n of_o the_o high_a mountain_n and_o how_o it_o decrease_v likewise_o and_o the_o earth_n become_v habitable_a again_o and_o so_o continue_v his_o relation_n of_o all_o the_o posterity_n of_o noah_n till_o he_o come_v to_o abraham_n and_o his_o generation_n unto_o who_o at_o their_o come_n out_o of_o egypt_n god_n give_v by_o this_o moses_n law_n and_o ordinance_n as_o i_o say_v before_o which_o be_v his_o peculiar_a favour_n to_o the_o people_n of_o israel_n as_o for_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o world_n god_n suffer_v all_o nation_n to_o walk_v in_o their_o own_o way_n nevertheless_o he_o leave_v not_o himself_o without_o witness_n now_o doubt_v but_o that_o the_o son_n of_o righteousness_n have_v so_o enlighten_v all_o the_o world_n by_o himself_o and_o his_o bless_a apostle_n and_o teach_v we_o all_o thing_n not_o only_o thing_n necessary_a to_o our_o salvation_n but_o all_o knowledge_n require_v to_o perfection_n certain_o than_o no_o man_n can_v think_v that_o the_o infinite_a goodness_n of_o god_n who_o have_v thus_o enlighten_v we_o with_o all_o knowledge_n to_o perfection_n shall_v leave_v his_o people_n unto_o this_o day_n ignorant_a in_o the_o first_o principle_n of_o religion_n even_o the_o very_a as_o a_o new_a light_n come_v into_o it_o to_o show_v we_o how_o that_o the_o whole_a world_n have_v be_v mistake_v unto_o this_o day_n in_o the_o true_a knowledge_n of_o the_o creation_n deluge_n etc._n etc._n and_o pretend_v to_o deliver_v to_o we_o a_o new_a and_o strange_a interpretation_n of_o scripture_n which_o neither_o we_o nor_o our_o father_n before_o we_o ever_o hear_v of_o and_o by_o his_o philosophy_n will_v not_o only_o confute_v all_o other_o philosopher_n before_o he_o but_o also_o christian_n in_o their_o divinity_n and_o will_v make_v it_o as_o plain_a unto_o they_o as_o the_o sun_n at_o noonday_n that_o they_o have_v not_o yet_o have_v a_o right_a understanding_n of_o these_o thing_n and_o though_o david_n say_v the_o heaven_n declare_v the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o the_o firmament_n show_v his_o handiwork_n he_o will_v be_v so_o bold_a as_o to_o tell_v david_n that_o neither_o these_o heaven_n nor_o this_o earth_n be_v the_o same_o which_o they_o be_v at_o the_o creation_n and_o so_o continue_v till_o the_o deluge_n but_o quite_o another_o thing_n and_o therefore_o neither_o
the_o vast_a quantity_n of_o water_n which_o be_v requisite_a to_o make_v such_o a_o deluge_n and_o according_a to_o his_o computation_n make_v up_o a_o sum_n of_o eight_o ocean_n that_o be_v eight_o time_n as_o much_o water_n as_o all_o the_o sea_n in_o the_o world_n contain_v you_o must_v suppose_v this_o man_n a_o rare_a hydrographer_n and_o can_v tell_v we_o exact_o to_o a_o fathom_n the_o depth_n of_o all_o the_o sea_n in_o the_o world_n not_o only_o near_o the_o shore_n but_o in_o the_o main_a fathomless_a ocean_n nay_o his_o skill_n reach_v above_o the_o heaven_n and_o can_v tell_v you_o the_o quantity_n of_o water_n there_o by_o what_o art_n or_o instrument_n this_o be_v compute_v be_v best_o know_v to_o himself_o but_o not_o intelligible_a to_o any_o body_n else_o but_o let_v we_o hear_v the_o rest_n he_o than_o affirm_v that_o all_o the_o water_n upon_o or_o under_o the_o earth_n together_o with_o the_o water_n above_o the_o firmament_n will_v not_o amount_v to_o much_o above_o one_o ocean_n so_o that_o there_o will_v be_v above_o six_o want_v to_o fill_v up_o the_o valley_n to_o the_o mountain_n top_n and_o fifteen_o cubit_n upward_o you_o must_v know_v this_o man_n be_v a_o rare_a geographer_n also_o and_o have_v take_v the_o height_n of_o every_o mountain_n and_o the_o depth_n of_o every_o valley_n in_o the_o whole_a world_n and_o can_v tell_v you_o what_o quantity_n of_o water_n be_v requisite_a to_o fill_v they_o up_o and_o make_v a_o even_a sphere_n with_o the_o whole_a earth_n and_o then_o conclude_v that_o it_o be_v not_o intelligible_a from_o whence_o so_o great_a a_o quantity_n of_o water_n shall_v be_v produce_v and_o whither_o it_o shall_v be_v convey_v after_o the_o deluge_n well_o let_v it_o be_v unintelligible_a be_v it_o a_o good_a consequence_n therefore_o to_o say_v it_o be_v incredible_a this_o man_n profess_v to_o believe_v that_o god_n create_v all_o this_o whole_a world_n from_o nothing_o not_o only_o the_o earth_n but_o the_o vast_a incomprehensible_a heaven_n with_o sun_n and_o moon_n and_o all_o the_o innumerable_a star_n and_o believe_v this_o can_v not_o doubt_v but_o god_n have_v a_o mind_n to_o overflow_v this_o whole_a earth_n can_v far_o more_o easy_o find_v water_n enough_o to_o make_v such_o a_o flood_n and_o shall_v i_o say_v he_o do_v create_v water_n on_o this_o occasion_n what_o can_v he_o say_v to_o confute_v it_o where_o have_v god_n in_o scripture_n confine_v himself_o from_o any_o new_a creation_n for_o ever_o no_o where_o as_o i_o know_v of_o for_o to_o say_v that_o god_n rest_v the_o seven_o day_n from_o all_o his_o work_n certain_o can_v imply_v that_o god_n must_v never_o work_v more_o john_n 5._o 17._o christ_n faith_n my_o father_n work_v hitherto_o and_o i_o work_v we_o find_v in_o the_o gospel_n our_o saviour_n feed_v five_o thousand_o man_n with_o five_o loaf_n and_o two_o fish_n i_o may_v as_o well_o say_v this_o be_v unintelligible_a and_o consequent_o incredible_a yet_o no_o good_a christian_a doubt_n of_o the_o truth_n and_o why_o then_o may_v not_o god_n multiply_v the_o water_n in_o that_o deluge_n as_o well_o as_o multiply_v the_o loaf_n in_o the_o gospel_n wherefore_o if_o we_o say_v that_o the_o water_n in_o this_o great_a deluge_n be_v multiply_v methinks_v a_o true_a believer_n shall_v rest_v satisfy_v with_o such_o a_o answer_n for_o this_o way_n of_o multiplication_n better_o satisfy_v a_o objection_n of_o he_o make_v pag._n 19_o that_o moses_n say_v the_o water_n increase_v by_o degree_n for_o when_o our_o saviour_n multiply_v the_o loaf_n he_o do_v not_o at_o once_o create_v as_o many_o as_o will_v satisfy_v the_o five_o thousand_o but_o multiply_v they_o by_o degree_n as_o the_o disciple_n distribute_v they_o and_o when_o they_o return_v they_o still_o find_v more_o to_o distribute_v and_o so_o the_o water_n by_o degree_n increase_v and_o decrease_v likewise_o by_o degree_n but_o say_v he_o what_o become_v of_o all_o these_o water_n after_o the_o deluge_n where_o be_v they_o dispose_v a_o strange_a question_n for_o a_o believer_n to_o ask_v as_o if_o the_o same_o power_n that_o multiply_v can_v not_o also_o lessen_v and_o thus_o he_o may_v have_v eight_o or_o eighteen_o ocean_n if_o it_o be_v requisite_a to_o make_v up_o his_o deluge_n which_o say_v he_o be_v unintelligible_a yet_o be_v very_o intelligible_a to_o any_o true_a believer_n though_o the_o mean_n whereby_o so_o much_o water_n be_v produce_v be_v unintelligible_a and_o i_o will_v glad_o know_v of_o any_o man_n what_o absurdity_n or_o what_o inconvenience_n there_o will_v be_v to_o religion_n in_o this_o way_n of_o multiplication_n i_o profess_v i_o can_v see_v why_o any_o one_o shall_v scruple_n at_o the_o unintelligibleness_n of_o this_o if_o he_o believe_v the_o other_o of_o multiply_a loaf_n in_o the_o gospel_n and_o therefore_o i_o require_v our_o theorist_n to_o show_v we_o some_o inconvenience_n or_o unintelligibleness_n in_o the_o one_o more_o than_o in_o the_o other_o vii_o but_o he_o bring_v a_o rule_n out_o of_o s._n austin_n that_o in_o the_o difficulty_n of_o scripture_n we_o shall_v not_o easy_o make_v use_n of_o god_n omnipotency_n for_o their_o interpretation_n let_v it_o be_v so_o we_o be_v not_o easy_o to_o make_v use_n of_o god_n omnipotency_n must_v we_o therefore_o never_o use_v it_o be_v there_o not_o a_o hundred_o miracle_n in_o scripture_n which_o neither_o st._n austin_n nor_o this_o man_n with_o all_o his_o philosophy_n can_v show_v how_o they_o can_v be_v do_v in_o a_o natural_a way_n and_o therefore_o when_o our_o reason_n can_v find_v out_o how_o such_o a_o thing_n can_v be_v effect_v by_o any_o other_o mean_n than_o by_o god_n omnipotency_n we_o aseribe_v it_o unto_o that_o this_o say_v he_o be_v to_o make_v god_n march_v forward_o and_o backward_o create_v and_o annihilate_v multiply_v and_o lessen_v according_a to_o our_o will_n and_o pleasure_n not_o so_o but_o according_a to_o his_o own_o word_n when_o he_o tell_v we_o such_o a_o thing_n be_v do_v by_o he_o and_o we_o can_v in_o reason_n find_v out_o how_o it_o be_v do_v by_o any_o other_o mean_n than_o by_o creation_n or_o multiplication_n we_o do_v not_o then_o vain_o make_v use_n of_o his_o omnipotency_n but_o only_o to_o make_v good_a his_o own_o word_n and_o i_o conceive_v we_o can_v never_o full_o satisfy_v our_o reason_n and_o answer_v every_o objection_n that_o may_v be_v make_v in_o this_o matter_n of_o the_o deluge_n and_o in_o many_o other_o thing_n contain_v in_o scripture_n without_o some_o such_o way_n and_o give_v i_o leave_v to_o say_v further_o we_o do_v in_o this_o deal_n much_o more_o mannerly_a with_o the_o deity_n than_o he_o do_v for_o we_o leave_v god_n to_o his_o own_o liberty_n to_o create_v or_o multiply_v when_o he_o see_v occasion_n but_o this_o man_n will_v bind_v up_o god_n hand_n and_o manacle_v they_o so_o as_o he_o must_v not_o by_o any_o mean_n create_v anew_o or_o multiply_v be_v the_o occasion_n ever_o so_o great_a even_o the_o deluge_n of_o the_o whole_a world_n and_o true_o this_o man_n seem_v to_o i_o and_o i_o believe_v to_o all_o man_n else_o a_o very_a miracle_n who_o allow_v no_o miracle_n in_o the_o deluge_n but_o will_v needs_o have_v all_o do_v by_o intelligible_a and_o rational_a way_n as_o he_o call_v it_o but_o we_o may_v rather_o call_v it_o a_o fictitious_a and_o romantic_a way_n as_o we_o shall_v see_v by_o and_o by_o when_o we_o come_v to_o it_o viii_o but_o i_o think_v it_o fit_a at_o present_a to_o give_v a_o answer_n to_o a_o objection_n make_v by_o he_o i_o shall_v make_v bold_a to_o say_v very_o frivolous_a moses_n say_v he_o in_o the_o description_n of_o the_o deluge_n ascribe_v it_o unto_o two_o express_a cause_n the_o break_v open_o the_o fountain_n of_o the_o great_a deep_a and_o open_v the_o window_n of_o heaven_n and_o by_o these_o two_o mean_n the_o deluge_n arise_v and_o overflow_v the_o world_n here_o you_o may_v see_v moses_n tell_v you_o the_o mean_n whereby_o the_o deluge_n be_v effect_v moses_n make_v no_o mention_n of_o create_v or_o multiply_v power_n and_o what_o of_o all_o this_o be_v there_o therefore_o no_o extraordinary_a power_n make_v use_v of_o in_o the_o deluge_n job_n 9_o 6._o it_o be_v say_v our_o saviour_n spit_v on_o the_o ground_n and_o make_v clay_n of_o the_o spittle_n and_o anoint_v the_o eye_n of_o the_o blind_a man_n with_o the_o clay_n and_o say_v unto_o he_o go_v wash_v in_o the_o pool_n of_o siloam_n he_o go_v his_o way_n therefore_o and_o wash_v and_o come_v see_v here_o you_o see_v the_o mean_n express_v whereby_o this_o man_n eye_n be_v open_v viz._n by_o anoint_v his_o eye_n with_o clay_n and_o wash_n in_o the_o pool_n of_o siloam_n be_v this_o
relation_n of_o the_o world_n mention_n all_o particular_o and_o how_o that_o the_o earth_n with_o the_o great_a abyss_n about_o it_o be_v frame_v first_o and_o some_o day_n after_o that_o mention_n the_o creation_n of_o sun_n moon_n star_n etc._n etc._n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v a_o strange_a thing_n that_o this_o be_v do_v in_o the_o middle_n of_o the_o creation_n he_o frame_v his_o world_n and_o take_v no_o notice_n of_o they_o when_o or_o how_o they_o have_v their_o be_v but_o this_o be_v a_o mystery_n we_o must_v be_v ignorant_a of_o and_o pass_v it_o over_o in_o silence_n however_o if_o he_o think_v not_o sit_v to_o meddle_v with_o these_o thing_n yet_o methinks_v he_o may_v have_v tell_v we_o something_o more_o plain_o of_o the_o creature_n below_o how_o they_o be_v produce_v and_o first_o for_o fish_n he_o pass_v they_o over_o in_o silence_n as_o not_o sit_v to_o be_v mention_v in_o his_o black_a sea_n under_o the_o earth_n and_o as_o for_o fowl_n and_o beast_n he_o seem_v not_o full_o resolve_v whether_o they_o be_v produce_v all_o at_o one_o stroke_n or_o no_o as_o he_o phrase_n it_o that_o be_v all_o at_o their_o full_a growth_n but_o seem_v rather_o to_o believe_v that_o the_o earth_n of_o itself_o spawn_v they_o forth_o in_o their_o first_o seed_n and_o that_o in_o time_n they_o grow_v up_o to_o more_o strength_n and_o perfection_n here_o he_o mention_n not_o 〈◊〉_d all_o god_n command_v impower_v the_o earth_n to_o produce_v they_o that_o be_v contrary_a to_o his_o course_n who_o will_v needs_o have_v nature_n alone_a act_n in_o all_o thing_n and_o true_o for_o my_o part_n i_o have_v not_o faith_n enough_o to_o believe_v that_o his_o fine_a fat_a oily_a earth_n ever_o so_o fat_a be_v able_a to_o produce_v creature_n of_o itself_o alone_o and_o as_o far_o as_o my_o old_a head_n can_v remember_v i_o take_v it_o to_o be_v against_o philosophy_n also_o that_o vegetate_v power_n alone_o can_v produce_v animal_n and_o i_o shall_v wonder_v much_o to_o see_v a_o horse_n grow_v out_o of_o a_o tree_n or_o the_o earth_n but_o let_v it_o be_v his_o earth_n produce_v animal_n if_o then_o the_o earth_n natural_o of_o itself_o produce_v these_o various_a creature_n methinks_v the_o same_o earth_n have_v the_o same_o principle_n of_o life_n in_o it_o shall_v still_o have_v go_v on_o to_o produce_v more_o and_o more_o creature_n till_o at_o length_n the_o whole_a earth_n shall_v be_v cover_v by_o they_o but_o i_o leave_v he_o to_o confider_v more_o of_o this_o matter_n vii_o we_o will_v rather_o hearken_v to_o moses_n who_o plain_o tell_v we_o that_o both_o the_o earth_n and_o the_o water_n produce_v these_o creature_n by_o god_n special_a command_n and_o when_o his_o command_n cease_v their_o production_n also_o cease_v and_o far_o tell_v we_o god_n command_v the_o sea_n to_o produce_v all_o sort_n of_o fish_n among_o other_o the_o great_a whale_n do_v all_o these_o swim_v up_o and_o down_o in_o his_o sea_n under_o the_o earth_n and_o the_o great_a leviathan_n take_v his_o pastime_n therein_o as_o the_o scripture_n say_v he_o have_v but_o a_o dark_a place_n to_o sport_n himself_o in_o nor_o any_o room_n to_o spout_v up_o the_o water_n into_o the_o air_n as_o he_o have_v in_o our_o sea_n sure_o he_o rejoice_v much_o when_o this_o earth_n break_v and_o let_v the_o water_n go_v abroad_o to_o flow_v over_o it_o but_o doubtless_o many_o of_o they_o be_v knock_v in_o the_o head_n by_o those_o great_a mountain_n of_o stone_n fall_v into_o his_o deep_a yet_o we_o will_v let_v all_o this_o pass_n and_o be_v it_o so_o that_o the_o fish_n be_v all_o imprison_v in_o his_o dark_a sea_n under_o the_o earth_n but_o i_o must_v needs_o tell_v he_o though_o he_o pass_v this_o over_o in_o silence_n this_o business_n of_o fish_n loud_o and_o full_o consute_v his_o sea_n under_o the_o earth_n but_o we_o will_v proceed_v to_o fowl_n we_o find_v ver_fw-la 20._o god_n say_v let_v the_o water_n bring_v forth_o abundant_o the_o move_a creature_n that_o have_v life_n and_o fowl_n that_o may_v fly_v above_o the_o earth_n in_o the_o open_a firmament_n of_o heaven_n be_v then_o all_o the_o sort_n of_o fowl_n under_o heaven_n produce_v by_o his_o sea_n shut_v up_o under_o the_o earth_n true_o i_o can_v as_o little_o believe_v that_o water_n of_o itself_o shall_v produce_v a_o eagle_n as_o the_o earth_n a_o horse_n yet_o we_o must_v believe_v nature_n can_v do_v all_o thing_n but_o if_o water_n natural_o produce_v fowl_n at_o the_o begin_n of_o his_o world_n why_o shall_v it_o not_o go_v on_o to_o produce_v to_o this_o day_n i_o have_v hear_v indeed_o that_o there_o be_v in_o the_o sea_n about_o the_o coast_n of_o africa_n a_o kind_n of_o fly_a fish_n that_o be_v able_a to_o raise_v themselves_o up_o a_o spirit_n from_o the_o sea_n but_o i_o never_o meet_v with_o any_o traveller_n who_o tell_v we_o that_o either_o sea_n lakes_n or_o river_n produce_v eagle_n swan_n kite_n or_o raven_n or_o any_o other_o fowl_n the_o earth_n perchance_o he_o will_v say_v be_v grow_v more_o barren_a since_o the_o fraction_n but_o the_o water_n sure_o must_v be_v the_o fat_a that_o fat_a oily_a earth_n have_v fall_v in_o to_o enrich_v it_o beside_o it_o have_v now_o the_o warmth_n of_o the_o sun_n to_o help_v forward_o its_o production_n but_o he_o will_v have_v it_o otherwise_o and_o we_o must_v submit_v yet_o i_o desire_v he_o to_o tell_v we_o how_o the_o fowl_n be_v produce_v by_o his_o water_n under_o the_o earth_n how_o they_o get_v out_o certain_o they_o can_v not_o get_v out_o till_o the_o deluge_n when_o the_o earth_n break_v and_o let_v they_o also_o fly_v abroad_o at_o liberty_n his_o earth_n be_v firm_o close_v up_o on_o every_o side_n not_o one_o loophole_n to_o fly_v out_o at_o for_o he_o will_v not_o allow_v so_o much_o as_o a_o spring_n in_o his_o earth_n to_o arise_v from_o the_o sea_n and_o by_o this_o mean_v they_o must_v needs_o have_v be_v drown_v as_o soon_o as_o they_o be_v make_v have_v no_o place_n to_o fly_v abroad_o under_o heaven_n no_o nor_o any_o space_n of_o air_n between_o the_o water_n and_o his_o oily_a have_v of_o the_o deluge_n that_o the_o earth_n be_v whole_o overflow_v and_o quite_o encompass_v with_o so_o much_o water_n all_o at_o once_o as_o to_o extend_v to_o the_o top_n of_o the_o high_a mountain_n and_o fifteen_o cubit_n over_o foe_o so_o we_o understand_v moses_n description_n of_o it_o this_o seem_v to_o he_o a_o thing_n not_o intelligible_a and_o consequent_o not_o credible_a as_o we_o shall_v see_v hereafter_o the_o second_o thing_n that_o trouble_v he_o be_v the_o misshape_a form_n of_o our_o present_a earth_n as_o he_o think_v not_o become_v the_o omnipotent_a power_n of_o god_n who_o create_v all_o thing_n and_o after_o every_o work_n affirm_v that_o it_o be_v good_a which_o no_o man_n can_v say_v of_o this_o imperfect_a world_n for_o it_o have_v scarce_o any_o thing_n in_o it_o of_o form_n or_o order_n but_o lie_v like_o a_o confuse_a mass_n of_o ruin_n but_o though_o the_o creation_n be_v the_o first_o thing_n in_o order_n yet_o in_o his_o book_n he_o put_v it_o in_o the_o second_o place_n and_o begin_v with_o the_o deluge_n as_o most_o to_o his_o purpose_n show_v the_o impossibility_n of_o it_o according_a to_o his_o scheme_n of_o philosophy_n for_o by_o that_o we_o be_v to_o rule_v our_o thought_n and_o word_n in_o all_o thing_n appertain_v to_o the_o natural_a world_n as_o he_o call_v it_o but_o the_o plain_a truth_n be_v both_o these_o difficulty_n be_v but_o pretend_v to_o bring_v in_o his_o new_a devise_a fancy_n of_o make_v another_o world_n very_o different_a from_o that_o which_o moses_n describe_v in_o the_o creation_n this_o be_v his_o belove_a darling_n which_o he_o will_v glad_o compel_v we_o to_o receive_v by_o show_v we_o first_o the_o impossibility_n of_o such_o a_o deluge_n in_o this_o world_n as_o now_o it_o appear_v and_o from_o thence_o he_o introduce_v a_o world_n of_o his_o own_o frame_n and_o show_v thereby_o his_o admirable_a wit_n and_o part_n as_o he_o conceive_v in_o its_o composure_n which_o we_o shall_v see_v when_o we_o come_v to_o it_o at_o present_a we_o will_v follow_v his_o method_n and_o begin_v with_o the_o deluge_n the_o common_a opinion_n whereof_o he_o reject_v because_o it_o be_v not_o intelligible_a iv._o he_o lay_v down_o this_o rule_n that_o in_o all_o thing_n appertain_v to_o this_o natural_a world_n which_o consist_v of_o matter_n and_o form_n we_o must_v not_o allow_v of_o any_o thing_n that_o be_v not_o agreeable_a to_o the_o ordinary_a course_n of_o nature_n which_o he_o suppose_v may_v be_v conceive_v in_o a_o rational_a way_n as_o for_o example_n that_o two_o material_a body_n can_v penetrate_v the_o one_o into_o the_o other_o this_o be_v against_o the_o principle_n of_o his_o philosophy_n and_o therefore_o we_o ought_v not_o to_o allow_v that_o the_o bless_a virgin_n continue_v a_o virgin_n in_o bring_v forth_o our_o saviour_n into_o the_o world_n and_o that_o accident_n can_v subsist_v without_o a_o subject_a to_o support_v they_o this_o also_o be_v unintelligible_a and_o therefore_o we_o allow_v not_o the_o popish_a transubstantiation_n so_o likewise_o we_o reject_v their_o purgatory_n because_o it_o be_v unintelligible_a how_o the_o soul_n separate_v from_o the_o body_n be_v a_o pure_a spiritual_a substance_n can_v suffer_v by_o material_a fire_n and_o suchlike_a their_o tenet_n yet_o we_o believe_v the_o first_o that_o the_o bless_a virgin_n continue_v a_o virgin_n in_o partu_fw-la that_o be_v in_o bring_v forth_o our_o saviour_n as_o well_o as_o in_o conceive_v he_o because_o we_o have_v a_o sufficient_a ground_n for_o this_o in_o scripture_n both_o in_o the_o prophet_n isaiah_n and_o in_o the_o gospel_n a_o virgin_n shall_v conceive_v and_o bear_v a_o son_n her_o virginity_n be_v joint_o affirm_v both_o of_o her_o conceive_n and_o bear_v and_o therefore_o all_o the_o christian_a church_n have_v ever_o affirm_v it_o and_o say_v according_a to_o the_o creed_n call_v the_o apostle_n bear_v of_o the_o virgin_n mary_n but_o we_o find_v no_o compel_a scripture_n to_o make_v we_o believe_v the_o popish_a tenet_n we_o mention_v if_o the_o papist_n can_v show_v we_o as_o plain_o in_o scripture_n their_o transubstantiation_n as_o we_o can_v that_o the_o virgin_n both_o conceive_v and_o bear_v a_o son_n we_o shall_v as_o ready_o believe_v the_o one_o as_o the_o other_o wherefore_o our_o rule_n of_o belief_n be_v the_o scripture_n and_o whatsoever_o be_v plain_o declare_v there_o we_o present_o submit_v unto_o whether_o the_o manner_n of_o it_o be_v intelligible_a or_o not_o intelligible_a whether_o it_o relate_v to_o the_o material_a world_n or_o the_o spiritual_a world_n for_o i_o know_v no_o reason_n why_o we_o shall_v make_v that_o distinction_n of_o material_a and_o spiritual_a and_o memory_n and_o how_o they_o be_v distinguish_v how_o material_a accident_n of_o the_o body_n work_n upon_o the_o soul_n and_o disorder_n sometime_o the_o understanding_n sometime_o the_o memory_n nay_o in_o thing_n whole_o material_a how_o little_a do_v man_n understand_v or_o can_v give_v a_o reason_n why_o a_o dry_a yellow_a seed_n of_o wheat_n shall_v spring_v up_o in_o a_o green_a moist_a blade_n and_o that_o grow_v into_o a_o ear_n and_o become_v wheat_n again_o or_o who_o do_v understand_v the_o various_a flow_n and_o ebbing_n of_o the_o sea_n these_o be_v thing_n our_o very_a sense_n tell_v we_o be_v so_o yet_o our_o reason_n do_v not_o at_o all_o understand_v how_o they_o come_v to_o be_v so_o shall_v man_n then_o who_o understand_v not_o himself_o nor_o the_o mean_a work_n of_o god_n by_o his_o shallow_a weak_a reason_n examine_v and_o determine_v the_o great_a and_o wonderful_a work_n of_o god_n god_n forbid_v v._o but_o this_o man_n perchance_o will_v say_v that_o he_o have_v find_v out_o a_o explication_n of_o scripture_n in_o this_o business_n of_o the_o deluge_n which_o never_o be_v find_v before_o and_o such_o as_o may_v accord_v as_o well_o with_o moses_n relation_n as_o that_o we_o common_o receive_v to_o this_o i_o answer_v if_o his_o way_n of_o interpret_n the_o scripture_n be_v extravagant_a romantic_a and_o ridiculous_a in_o itself_o not_o any_o thing_n become_v the_o gravity_n of_o scripture_n and_o also_o put_v a_o sense_n extreme_o force_v and_o even_o contrary_a to_o the_o word_n as_o they_o have_v be_v understand_v by_o the_o whole_a world_n hitherto_o we_o have_v reason_n to_o reject_v it_o and_o now_o let_v any_o know_v serious_a person_n not_o light_n and_o giddy_a person_n who_o be_v please_v with_o any_o
