for_o any_o other_o glory_n except_o that_o which_o it_o receive_v by_o be_v honour_v by_o the_o presence_n of_o the_o messiah_n it_o be_v certain_a that_o in_o all_o other_o respect_v it_o come_v far_o short_a of_o solomon_n temple_n for_o who_o can_v with_o any_o reason_n suppose_v that_o a_o conquer_a nation_n new_o return_v out_o of_o captivity_n from_o under_o the_o hand_n of_o a_o potent_a enemy_n shall_v have_v so_o much_o wealth_n and_o riches_n as_o to_o be_v able_a to_o build_v a_o temple_n that_o may_v vie_v with_o that_o of_o solomon_n who_o exceed_v all_o the_o king_n second_o temple_n yet_o be_v it_o not_o to_o be_v imagine_v that_o artaxerxes_n a_o heathen_a king_n either_o take_v so_o much_o care_n or_o bestow_v so_o much_o cost_v about_o the_o build_n of_o be_v of_o his_o residence_n and_o especial_a presence_n here_o upon_o earth_n the_o place_n where_o his_o honour_n dwell_v and_o that_o far_o more_o visible_o and_o eminent_o than_o ever_o it_o do_v in_o the_o second_o temple_n before_o the_o come_n of_o christ_n for_o beside_o that_o at_o the_o dedication_n of_o solomon_n temple_n we_o read_v that_o fire_n come_v down_o in_o a_o wonderful_a nonsense_n which_o be_v the_o second_o absurdity_n contain_v in_o this_o assertion_n of_o the_o jew_n which_o i_o say_v be_v obvious_a enough_o to_o be_v discern_v by_o a_o ordinary_a capacity_n for_o sign_n he_o will_v give_v such_o a_o one_o as_o be_v worthy_a of_o himself_o one_o that_o be_v exceed_o wonderful_a and_o extraordinary_a but_o after_o all_o as_o the_o jew_n will_v interpret_v the_o present_a purpose_n which_o be_v to_o show_v that_o there_o be_v not_o any_o one_o prophecy_n in_o the_o old_a testament_n concern_v the_o messiah_n which_o we_o find_v not_o punctual_o fulfil_v even_o to_o the_o least_o tittle_n in_o the_o person_n of_o our_o saviour_n in_o that_o account_n which_o the_o evangelist_n have_v give_v we_o of_o he_o which_o sufficient_o demonstrate_v he_o to_o be_v the_o true_a messiah_n and_o their_o write_n to_o be_v of_o divine_a authority_n this_o manner_n of_o our_o saviour_n birth_n be_v very_o emphatical_o express_v by_o our_o apostle_n in_o my_o text._n god_n send_v forth_o his_o son_n make_v of_o a_o woman_n as_o he_o be_v god_n he_o be_v not_o make_v but_o beget_v of_o the_o father_n by_o a_o eternal_a and_o unspeakable_a generation_n and_o as_o he_o be_v man_n he_o be_v not_o beget_v but_o make_v of_o a_o woman_n after_o a_o unconceivable_a manner_n by_o the_o omnipotent_a power_n of_o god_n and_o thus_o it_o be_v necessary_a that_o the_o messiah_n shall_v make_v his_o entry_n into_o the_o world_n who_o be_v to_o be_v conceive_v and_o bear_v without_o sin_n sanctify_v from_o the_o womb_n holy_a harmless_a undefiled_a separate_a from_o sinner_n thus_o much_o of_o the_o four_o circumstance_n relate_v to_o the_o manner_n of_o the_o messiah_n his_o appear_v in_o the_o world_n he_o be_v to_o be_v bear_v of_o a_o virgin_n and_o so_o be_v our_o saviour_n the_o next_o thing_n to_o be_v consider_v be_v in_o what_o quality_n and_o condition_n he_o be_v to_o come_v this_o be_v that_o grand_a stumbling-block_n at_o which_o the_o jew_n be_v irreconcilable_o scandalize_v they_o be_v very_o ready_a to_o acknowledge_v that_o our_o saviour_n appear_v in_o the_o world_n in_o a_o very_a poor_a and_o despicable_a state_n and_o thus_o far_o they_o believe_v the_o gospel_n as_o well_o as_o we_o but_o because_o he_o do_v appear_v in_o such_o a_o condition_n they_o utter_o deny_v he_o to_o be_v the_o messiah_n who_o they_o still_o expect_v to_o come_v with_o exceed_v great_a pomp_n and_o splendour_n and_o glory_n become_v so_o great_a a_o king_n as_o be_v to_o sit_v for_o ever_o upon_o the_o throne_n of_o david_n and_o to_o subdue_v all_o the_o nation_n of_o the_o earth_n and_o to_o reduce_v they_o to_o his_o obedience_n have_v our_o saviour_n come_v in_o this_o manner_n and_o make_v their_o nation_n the_o head_n of_o the_o world_n it_o be_v more_o than_o probable_a that_o this_o one_o circumstance_n will_v have_v full_o satisfy_v they_o and_o without_o any_o scrupulous_a enquiry_n of_o what_o tribe_n he_o be_v bear_v of_o what_o family_n in_o what_o place_n and_o in_o what_o manner_n they_o will_v have_v unanimous_o proclaim_v he_o to_o be_v the_o true_a messiah_n the_o son_n of_o david_n and_o the_o redeemer_n of_o israel_n but_o that_o a_o person_n of_o so_o mean_a and_o obscure_v a_o birth_n as_o our_o saviour_n be_v one_o who_o as_o to_o his_o external_a condition_n make_v so_o inconsiderable_a a_o figure_n in_o the_o world_n that_o the_o carpenter_n the_o son_n of_o mary_n as_o they_o scornful_o call_v he_o shall_v declare_v himself_o to_o be_v the_o great_a of_o all_o the_o son_n of_o man_n their_o so_o long_o expect_v and_o earnest_o desire_a messiah_n the_o son_n of_o god_n and_o the_o king_n of_o israel_n they_o look_v upon_o to_o be_v so_o great_a a_o affront_n to_o their_o nation_n that_o instead_o of_o own_v he_o to_o be_v the_o messiah_n they_o reject_v he_o as_o a_o impostor_n and_o cut_v he_o off_o by_o a_o ignominious_a death_n little_o know_v that_o in_o all_o this_o they_o fulfil_v the_o scripture_n and_o that_o their_o very_a opposition_n rejection_n and_o crucifixion_n of_o he_o be_v all_o necessary_a and_o material_a argument_n which_o we_o and_o mean_a condition_n far_o different_a from_o that_o wherein_o the_o jew_n expect_v the_o messiah_n shall_v appear_v in_o such_o a_o condition_n indeed_o in_o which_o humane_a reason_n will_v little_o imagine_v that_o god_n will_v send_v into_o the_o world_n his_o only_o beget_v son_n the_o son_n of_o his_o eternal_a love_n in_o who_o he_o be_v well_o please_v him_z who_o be_v to_o be_v as_o this_o will_v come_v attend_v with_o the_o most_o pompous_a and_o magnificent_a circumstance_n imaginable_a suitable_a to_o the_o grandeur_n and_o glory_n of_o he_o who_o be_v to_o be_v high_a chief_a priest_n and_o pharisee_n a_o council_n and_o say_v what_o do_v we_o for_o this_o man_n do_v many_o miracle_n if_o we_o let_v he_o thus_o alone_o all_o man_n will_v believe_v on_o he_o and_o the_o roman_n shall_v come_v and_o take_v away_o both_o our_o place_n and_o nation_n to_o these_o miracle_n we_o may_v add_v also_o his_o prediction_n of_o future_a event_n very_o strange_a and_o unexpected_a and_o yet_o all_o punctual_o fulfil_v to_o a_o tittle_n in_o the_o very_a same_o manner_n and_o order_n as_o he_o foretell_v they_o shall_v be_v all_o these_o thing_n which_o i_o only_o name_n presume_v they_o to_o be_v well_o know_v to_o all_o that_o live_v within_o the_o sound_n of_o the_o gospel_n evident_o demonstrate_v our_o bless_a saviour_n to_o be_v far_o the_o great_a prophet_n that_o ever_o come_v into_o the_o world_n even_o such_o a_o one_o as_o all_o the_o prophet_n before_o he_o foretell_v that_o the_o messiah_n shall_v be_v and_o as_o he_o be_v a_o prophet_n so_o he_o be_v also_o a_o priest_n as_o eminent_a in_o that_o office_n as_o in_o the_o other_o superior_a to_o all_o those_o of_o the_o aaronical_a priesthood_n even_o to_o aaron_n himself_o who_o as_o well_o as_o his_o successor_n be_v but_o a_o type_n of_o our_o great_a highpriest_n jesus_n christ_n and_o that_o he_o be_v such_o a_o priest_n as_o this_o be_v frequent_o declare_v in_o the_o new_a testament_n and_o most_o clear_o demonstrate_v by_o his_o perform_v the_o office_n belong_v to_o such_o a_o priest_n which_o be_v especial_o these_o two_o first_o to_o offer_v up_o unto_o god_n a_o most_o holy_a perfect_a and_o sufficient_a sacrifice_n to_o satisfy_v his_o justice_n and_o to_o make_v a_o atonement_n for_o the_o sin_n of_o all_o mankind_n second_o to_o appear_v continual_o in_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n make_v most_o powerful_a and_o effectual_a intercession_n for_o all_o true_a believer_n that_o he_o have_v already_o perform_v one_o of_o these_o office_n and_o that_o he_o do_v still_o perform_v the_o other_o we_o be_v assure_v by_o all_o the_o holy_a penman_n who_o business_n it_o be_v to_o give_v we_o a_o true_a and_o faithful_a account_n of_o these_o matter_n first_o he_o have_v offer_v up_o unto_o god_n such_o a_o sacrifice_n
cross_n despise_v the_o shame_n and_o be_v set_v down_o at_o the_o right_a hand_n of_o the_o throne_n of_o god_n let_v we_o continual_o lift_v up_o our_o heart_n with_o most_o devout_a and_o ardent_a affection_n unto_o he_o who_o be_v our_o prophet_n our_o priest_n and_o our_o king_n yield_v as_o far_o as_o we_o be_v able_a a_o entire_a and_o impartial_a obedience_n to_o all_o his_o law_n submit_v of_o the_o second_o adam_n can_v deliver_v we_o the_o former_a utter_o ruin_v and_o undo_v we_o when_o we_o be_v once_o happy_a the_o latter_a come_v on_o purpose_n to_o seek_v and_o to_o save_v we_o when_o we_o be_v lose_v the_o former_a hang_v upon_o our_o neck_n the_o heavy_a and_o intolerable_a yoke_n of_o satan_n a_o burden_n under_o which_o the_o whole_a creation_n groan_n and_o which_o if_o we_o shake_v it_o not_o off_o will_v at_o the_o last_o sink_v we_o down_o into_o the_o bottomless_a pit_n the_o latter_a come_v to_o rescue_v we_o from_o this_o bondage_n and_o to_o lay_v upon_o we_o be_v heavy_a lade_v and_o that_o not_o some_o few_o of_o they_o only_o but_o all_o without_o any_o exception_n all_o such_o be_v welcome_a guest_n unto_o christ_n come_v unto_o i_o say_v he_o all_o you_o that_o labour_n and_o be_v heavy_a lade_v this_o invitation_n than_o seem_v to_o be_v make_v without_o respect_n of_o person_n to_o all_o mankind_n for_o nothing_o be_v more_o certain_a than_o that_o all_o mankind_n be_v heavy_a lade_v with_o the_o burden_n of_o sin_n which_o be_v the_o thing_n here_o mean_v in_o these_o word_n this_o be_v so_o evident_a from_o innumerable_a text_n of_o scripture_n that_o i_o need_v not_o produce_v argument_n to_o prove_v it_o for_o all_o have_v sin_v and_o come_v short_a of_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n but_o though_o nothing_o be_v more_o plain_a than_o that_o all_o have_v sin_v and_o consequent_o that_o all_o be_v lade_v with_o this_o burden_n yet_o nothing_o be_v more_o plain_a also_o than_o that_o all_o do_v not_o labour_v under_o it_o many_o man_n indeed_o most_o man_n be_v so_o far_o from_o labour_v under_o the_o burden_n of_o sin_n that_o they_o delight_v and_o take_v pleasure_n in_o it_o and_o can_v by_o no_o mean_n be_v persuade_v to_o think_v of_o part_v with_o it_o such_o person_n as_o these_o be_v so_o far_o from_o seek_v rest_n in_o be_v ease_v of_o their_o sin_n that_o on_o the_o contrary_a they_o seek_v for_o rest_n and_o happiness_n in_o sin_n itself_o where_o it_o be_v certain_a that_o it_o never_o can_v be_v find_v for_o there_o be_v no_o peace_n say_v my_o god_n to_o the_o wicked_a such_o therefore_o be_v exclude_v from_o this_o invitation_n of_o our_o saviour_n who_o though_o he_o call_v sinner_n unto_o he_o yet_o call_v none_o but_o such_o as_o be_v weary_a of_o their_o sin_n and_o desire_v to_o be_v deliver_v from_o they_o second_o such_o be_v exclude_v likewise_o who_o trust_v in_o their_o own_o righteousness_n and_o presume_v that_o they_o have_v little_a or_o no_o need_n of_o a_o merit_v heaven_n by_o their_o own_o work_n nay_o more_o than_o so_o that_o they_o can_v do_v work_n of_o supererrogation_n and_o sell_v they_o also_o for_o the_o benefit_n of_o other_o that_o stand_v in_o need_n of_o they_o contrary_a to_o the_o express_a command_n of_o our_o saviour_n to_o his_o disciple_n luk._n 17.10_o when_o you_o have_v do_v all_o those_o thing_n which_o be_v command_v you_o say_v we_o be_v unprofitable_a servant_n we_o have_v do_v that_o which_o be_v our_o duty_n to_o do_v and_o contrary_a to_o the_o example_n of_o the_o wise_a virgin_n matt._n 25.9_o who_o refuse_v to_o part_v with_o any_o of_o their_o oil_n unto_o the_o foolish_a lest_o there_o be_v not_o enough_o say_v they_o for_o we_o and_o you_o but_o go_v you_o rather_o to_o they_o that_o sell_v and_o buy_v for_o yourselves_o such_o person_n as_o these_o then_o both_o such_o as_o delight_v in_o sin_n and_o such_o as_o trust_v in_o their_o own_o righteousness_n be_v utter_o exclude_v from_o this_o invitation_n of_o our_o saviour_n there_o be_v no_o promise_n no_o hope_n of_o rest_n for_o any_o such_o but_o all_o they_o that_o will_v be_v welcome_a guest_n unto_o christ_n must_v be_v sensible_a of_o the_o heavy_a load_n and_o burden_n of_o their_o sin_n so_o as_o to_o be_v hearty_o weary_a of_o it_o and_o most_o earnest_o to_o desire_v to_o be_v rid_v of_o it_o so_o that_o here_o be_v a_o double_a qualification_n require_v in_o all_o those_o person_n who_o christ_n here_o so_o gracious_o call_v unto_o he_o first_o they_o must_v feel_v the_o burden_n of_o their_o sin_n so_o as_o to_o labour_v under_o it_o to_o be_v extreme_o weary_v and_o oppress_v with_o it_o second_o they_o must_v unfeigned_o desire_v to_o be_v rid_v of_o this_o burden_n so_o as_o to_o be_v deliver_v not_o only_o from_o the_o punishment_n that_o be_v due_a unto_o sin_n but_o from_o the_o gild_n also_o and_o pollution_n of_o sin_n that_o it_o may_v no_o long_o reign_v in_o their_o mortal_a body_n that_o they_o shall_v obey_v it_o in_o the_o lust_n thereof_o first_o i_o say_v all_o that_o will_v come_v unto_o christ_n must_v feel_v the_o burden_n of_o their_o sin_n so_o as_o to_o labour_v under_o it_o and_o to_o be_v extreme_o weary_v and_o oppress_v with_o it_o this_o be_v evident_a from_o the_o express_a word_n of_o our_o saviour_n invitation_n
