thing_n to_o thou_o to_o live_v like_o a_o dog_n in_o this_o world_n and_o then_o to_o boast_v thyself_o of_o thy_o election_n justification_n etc._n etc._n now_o thou_o be_v as_o far_o from_o heaven_n as_o a_o dog_n except_o in_o one_o time_n or_o other_o thou_o have_v a_o sense_n of_o this_o holiness_n in_o thou_o he_o say_v not_o simple_o we_o be_v call_v to_o sanctification_n but_o he_o say_v god_n have_v call_v us._n there_o be_v a_o great_a motive_n to_o holiness_n it_o be_v god_n who_o call_v us._n so_o there_o be_v two_o thing_n in_o this_o verse_n that_o shall_v move_v we_o to_o holiness_n the_o first_o our_o call_n which_o be_v to_o holiness_n holiness_n god_n the_o caller_n a_o great_a motive_n to_o holiness_n the_o second_o the_o caller_n it_o be_v god_n that_o call_v us._n the_o worthiness_n of_o such_o a_o person_n as_o have_v call_v we_o have_v no_o small_a weight_n and_o moment_n to_o move_v us._n the_o glorious_a god_n call_v on_o we_o and_o strain_n himself_o to_o speak_v to_o we_o with_o his_o own_o mouth_n if_o any_o king_n shall_v call_v a_o man_n to_o any_o thing_n no_o doubt_n the_o man_n will_v think_v himself_o bind_v to_o obey_v not_o only_o for_o the_o commodity_n he_o will_v get_v by_o obey_v that_o call_n but_o also_o because_o of_o the_o personage_n of_o he_o that_o have_v call_v he_o who_o he_o be_v bind_v to_o obey_v so_o then_o if_o it_o be_v a_o sin_n not_o to_o obey_v a_o glorious_a personage_n on_o the_o earth_n when_o he_o call_v how_o great_a sin_n be_v it_o not_o to_o obey_v the_o son_n of_o god_n when_o he_o call_v thou_o to_o holiness_n brethren_n think_v of_o god_n calling_n and_o of_o his_o person_n who_o have_v call_v you_o as_o you_o will_v this_o be_v most_o sure_a when_o god_n call_v thou_o to_o holiness_n it_o be_v impossible_a but_o that_o call_v must_v be_v effectual_a in_o you_o either_o one_o way_n or_o other_o and_o that_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o caller_n no_o that_o glorious_a person_n can_v open_v his_o mouth_n in_o vain_a for_o god_n word_n must_v take_v effect_n no_o word_n ever_o come_v out_o of_o his_o mouth_n but_o it_o his_fw-mi the_o full_a effect_n when_o he_o call_v thou_o to_o be_v holy_a constancy_n in_o denâ—oncing_v and_o threaten_a judgement_n that_o you_o find_v in_o those_o who_o speak_v in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n they_o will_v denounce_v once_o twice_o and_o thrice_o that_o same_o judgement_n tell_v you_o the_o lord_n will_v be_v avenge_v on_o ungodliness_n the_o ground_n be_v in_o god_n himself_o the_o lord_n be_v constant_a in_o his_o vengeance_n on_o impenitent_a sinner_n he_o alter_v not_o howbeit_o he_o delay_v the_o vengeance_n unto_o his_o appoint_a time_n yet_o the_o vengeance_n stand_v fast_o he_o be_v not_o like_o man_n man_n be_v changeable_a he_o will_v brag_v the_o night_n and_o say_v i_o will_v be_v avenge_v to_o morrow_n all_o be_v away_o man_n be_v vain_a and_o inconstant_a the_o lord_n be_v a_o unchangeable_a god_n he_o their_o call_n for_o god_n his_fw-mi not_o call_v we_o to_o uncleanness_n but_o to_o holiness_n this_o calling_n be_v our_o christian_n calling_n whereby_o we_o be_v translate_v out_o of_o the_o kingdom_n of_o darkness_n to_o the_o kingdom_n of_o jesus_n christ_n we_o be_v call_v out_o of_o hell_n to_o heaven_n from_o darkness_n to_o light_v we_o be_v call_v to_o a_o kingdom_n and_o glory_n call_v a_o christian_a the_o fair_a name_n that_o ever_o man_n get_v to_o become_v a_o harlote_n a_o oppressor_n a_o deceyver_n a_o murderer_n lay_v not_o the_o fault_n on_o the_o holy_a call_n but_z on_o the_o foul_a person_n that_o be_v unworthy_a of_o the_o call_n for_o he_o be_v but_o a_o vile_a creature_n that_o be_v so_o call_v that_o christian_a calling_n permit_v not_o such_o vile_a sin_n earth_n he_o shall_v oppone_v himself_o both_o against_o the_o majesty_n of_o god_n in_o heaven_n and_o against_o the_o majesty_n of_o king_n and_o prince_n on_o earth_n again_o in_o pride_n of_o his_o hart_n he_o shall_v lift_v himself_o above_o every_o thing_n call_v god_n more_n in_o the_o pride_n of_o hart_n he_o shall_v sit_v in_o the_o temple_n of_o god_n as_o god_n in_o god_n seat_n upon_o the_o conscience_n of_o man_n to_o control_v they_o which_o thing_n proper_o pertain_v to_o god_n no_o creature_n his_fw-mi power_n over_o the_o conscience_n of_o man_n it_o be_v proper_a to_o god_n only_o more_o he_o shall_v show_v himself_o in_o all_o his_o style_n dignity_n and_o name_n as_o god_n he_o shall_v reave_v these_o from_o god_n and_o shall_v clothe_v himself_o with_o they_o last_o he_o be_v descryve_v from_o that_o effectualness_n and_o powerful_a work_n which_o he_o shall_v receive_v of_o satan_n and_o which_o at_o his_o come_n he_o shall_v have_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n partly_o by_o work_a wonder_n partly_o by_o false_a and_o fraudulent_a doctrine_n but_o in_o who_o he_o say_v in_o they_o that_o perish_v that_o be_v in_o they_o that_o be_v ordain_v to_o destruction_n before_o the_o foundation_n of_o the_o world_n be_v lay_v in_o these_o he_o shall_v be_v powerful_a they_o shall_v believe_v he_o in_o all_o that_o he_o do_v and_o say_v then_o he_o set_v down_o one_o cause_n of_o the_o perdition_n of_o these_o man_n in_o who_o the_o antichrist_n be_v and_o shall_v be_v effectual_a to_o wit_n their_o own_o merit_n and_o desert_n they_o will_v not_o receive_v the_o love_n of_o the_o truth_n they_o contemn_v the_o light_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o therefore_o perish_v shall_v they_o god_n indeed_o have_v decree_v from_o all_o eternity_n that_o they_o shall_v perish_v but_o before_o the_o decreete_a be_v put_v in_o execution_n their_o merit_n shall_v intervene_v and_o in_o time_n they_o shall_v contemn_v the_o truth_n of_o god_n which_o shall_v procure_v that_o damnation_n to_o the_o which_o from_o all_o eternity_n they_o be_v predestinate_a in_o the_o first_o verse_n we_o read_v the_o apostle_n show_v by_o what_o order_n damnation_n and_o perdition_n shall_v follow_v upon_o the_o contempt_n of_o the_o light_n of_o god_n in_o jesus_n christ_n mark_v this_o damnation_n shall_v not_o follow_v upon_o the_o contempt_n of_o be_v he_o shall_v hound_n out_o the_o antichrist_n with_o his_o effectualness_n and_o he_o come_v with_o the_o effectualness_n of_o satan_n shall_v deceive_v they_o he_o shall_v blind_v they_o as_o it_o be_v and_o put_v out_o their_o eye_n what_o shall_v follow_v on_o that_o be_v blind_v they_o shall_v go_v forward_o in_o their_o sin_n and_o so_o go_v down_o towards_o hell_n as_o it_o be_v by_o another_o step_n and_o as_o they_o contemn_v the_o light_n before_o so_o now_o be_v deceive_v they_o shall_v embrace_v greedy_o lie_v and_o what_o shall_v follow_v upon_o this_o embrace_v lie_n and_o vanity_n damnation_n shall_v ensue_v this_o be_v the_o meaning_n of_o this_o verse_n then_o you_o see_v a_o man_n be_v not_o shoot_v in_o hell_n at_o the_o first_o no_o when_o a_o man_n have_v commit_v one_o sin_n god_n will_v not_o put_v he_o in_o hell_n at_o that_o same_o instant_n but_o he_o shall_v make_v he_o go_v to_o hell_n by_o degree_n from_o step_n to_o step_n and_o from_o sin_n to_o sin_n in_o his_o just_a judgement_n he_o shall_v make_v he_o stop_v from_o a_o small_a sin_n to_o a_o great_a sin_n and_o this_o he_o will_v do_v by_o plague_v of_o he_o and_o inflict_v on_o he_o either_o spiritual_a or_o temporal_a judgement_n and_o be_v beat_a he_o will_v not_o amend_v no_o mark_v this_o a_o reprobate_n will_v never_o mend_v all_o the_o temporal_a judgement_n in_o the_o world_n will_v not_o better_v he_o but_o he_o will_v be_v ay_o worse_o and_o worse_o so_o that_o if_o he_o sin_v before_o now_o be_v plague_v he_o shall_v go_v to_o a_o great_a sin_n and_o shall_v not_o make_v a_o end_n of_o sin_v till_o he_o end_v in_o judgement_n mark_v another_o thing_n here_o you_o see_v what_o the_o antichrist_n be_v with_o all_o his_o force_n and_o effectualness_n his_o
