common_a both_o to_o man_n and_o beast_n and_o a_o preservation_n more_o peculiar_a to_o man_n and_o yet_o more_o special_a to_o the_o people_n of_o god_n those_o among_o the_o son_n of_o man_n who_o god_n have_v set_v apart_o for_o himself_o 3._o that_o there_o be_v a_o preserve_a providence_n respect_v the_o body_n and_o outward_a man_n and_o a_o preserve_a providence_n respect_v the_o inward_a man_n 4._o that_o as_o to_o man_n he_o be_v considerable_a in_o a_o threefold_a capacity_n 1._o in_o his_o personal_a capacity_n as_o a_o reasonable_a creature_n endue_v with_o all_o the_o power_n and_o faculty_n of_o vegetive_a and_o sensitive_a creature_n and_o further_o with_o several_a power_n and_o faculty_n suit_v to_o his_o reasonable_a nature_n 2._o in_o his_o political_a capacity_n as_o he_o make_v up_o a_o member_n of_o a_o kingdom_n or_o civil_a society_n 3._o in_o his_o ecclesiastical_a capacity_n as_o in_o society_n with_o other_o he_o make_v up_o that_o body_n of_o people_n which_o be_v call_v the_o church_n of_o god_n god_n preserve_v he_o in_o all_o these_o capacity_n of_o which_o when_o i_o come_v to_o it_o i_o shall_v speak_v more_o particular_o and_o distinct_o i_o shall_v lay_v down_o several_a conclusion_n the_o first_o of_o which_o shall_v be_v more_o general_a and_o extensive_a to_o such_o creature_n as_o have_v mere_o be_v and_o no_o life_n the_o other_o will_v concern_v live_v creature_n and_o among_o they_o man_n as_o the_o noble_a and_o more_o excellent_a of_o they_o 1._o concl._n god_n by_o the_o word_n of_o his_o power_n uphold_v the_o being_n order_n and_o course_n of_o all_o his_o creature_n so_o as_o not_o only_o their_o natural_a inclination_n and_o quality_n and_o affection_n by_o which_o they_o be_v mutual_o serviceable_a to_o each_o other_o and_o to_o the_o uphold_v of_o the_o universe_n do_v not_o fail_v abate_v or_o decay_n but_o so_o that_o their_o power_n and_o opposite_a quality_n work_v not_o to_o the_o ruin_n and_o destruction_n of_o the_o whole_a this_o now_o to_o he_o who_o will_v give_v his_o thought_n leave_v to_o stand_v upon_o it_o will_v appear_v a_o great_a and_o wonderful_a work_n of_o god_n and_o no_o less_o than_o a_o wonderful_a miracle_n of_o divine_a providence_n when_o god_n give_v a_o be_v to_o the_o world_n and_o to_o all_o the_o thing_n therein_o he_o endue_v they_o all_o with_o several_a they_o with_o several_a quality_n by_o which_o they_o be_v mutual_o serviceable_a each_o to_o other_o 3._o he_o set_v the_o several_a creature_n in_o their_o order_n and_o station_n so_o as_o they_o may_v be_v best_a serviceable_a now_o i_o say_v the_o providence_n of_o god_n work_v in_o the_o preserve_n of_o they_o 1._o by_o uphold_v these_o quality_n and_o keep_v they_o in_o this_o order_n that_o they_o do_v not_o dislocate_v and_o fall_v out_o of_o joint_n but_o abide_v both_o in_o their_o station_n and_o in_o their_o full_a vigour_n and_o virtue_n 2._o by_o keep_v they_o that_o the_o quality_n in_o they_o which_o be_v opposite_a one_o to_o another_o and_o will_v natural_o incline_v they_o to_o a_o dislocation_n and_o fall_v out_o of_o order_n yet_o have_v no_o such_o operation_n nor_o produce_v any_o such_o effect_n but_o even_o inanimate_a being_n move_v and_o work_v orderly_o according_a to_o the_o creator_n intention_n though_o they_o do_v nothing_o out_o of_o any_o counsel_n choice_n or_o deliberation_n let_v i_o but_o illustrate_v this_o a_o little_a in_o the_o four_o great_a inanimate_a body_n of_o the_o world_n the_o heaven_n the_o air_n the_o earth_n and_o the_o mighty_a water_n all_o exceed_v great_a and_o vast_a body_n yet_o without_o life_n sense_n or_o reason_n so_o as_o their_o motion_n can_v be_v from_o reason_n and_o counsel_n of_o their_o own_o the_o order_n in_o which_o god_n set_v these_o thing_n in_o the_o day_n of_o creation_n be_v this_o the_o heaven_n he_o place_v uppermost_a the_o air_n in_o the_o midst_n betwixt_o they_o and_o the_o earth_n then_o he_o place_v the_o earth_n and_o the_o sea_n in_o the_o midst_n contiguous_a one_o to_o another_o in_o the_o heaven_n he_o place_v water_n the_o sun_n the_o moon_n the_o star_n all_o great_a body_n now_o all_o these_o body_n have_v several_a quality_n gravity_n or_o weight_n levity_n heat_n cold_a moisture_n etc._n etc._n who_o know_v not_o that_o active_a quality_n in_o creature_n be_v subject_a to_o spend_v waste_n and_o decay_v to_o instance_n but_o in_o that_o one_o body_n of_o the_o sun_n who_o great_a quality_n be_v light_a and_o heat_n we_o see_v candle_n and_o torch_n and_o fire_n give_v light_a and_o heat_n but_o they_o spend_v themselves_o their_o light_n go_v out_o their_o heat_n waste_v and_o spend_v itself_o in_o a_o short_a time_n how_o be_v it_o that_o it_o be_v not_o so_o with_o the_o sun_n and_o the_o star_n but_o from_o the_o power_n
of_o god_n that_o uphold_v these_o quality_n that_o they_o neither_o waste_v nor_o abate_v from_o their_o continual_a motion_n the_o candle_n be_v feed_v from_o the_o tallow_n and_o wax_n the_o torch_n and_o taper_n from_o pitch_n wax_z rozin_n and_o other_o combustible_a matter_n when_o that_o fail_v it_o expire_v whence_o be_v the_o sun_n moon_n and_o star_n feed_v but_o from_o the_o immediate_a uphold_v power_n and_o hand_n of_o god_n again_o these_o great_a body_n be_v not_o indeed_o so_o gross_a and_o heavy_a as_o mere_a sublunary_a and_o terrene_a body_n be_v but_o yet_o they_o must_v not_o be_v deny_v something_o of_o weight_n especial_o the_o water_n in_o the_o heaven_n we_o know_v weight_n and_o heaviness_n be_v of_o the_o nature_n of_o water_n yea_o of_o that_o water_n which_o fall_v from_o heaven_n how_o come_v the_o cloud_n which_o be_v a_o thin_a body_n to_o contain_v and_o restrain_v it_o and_o keep_v it_o as_o in_o bottle_n how_o come_v those_o vast_a body_n of_o water_n to_o be_v contain_v in_o the_o thin_a body_n of_o the_o cloud_n and_o to_o diffuse_v themselves_o so_o gradual_o upon_o the_o earth_n 2._o let_v we_o look_v upon_o the_o air_n from_o the_o agitation_n of_o which_o proceed_v the_o great_a and_o boisterous_a stormy_a wind_n the_o air_n be_v cold_a and_o moist_a only_o heat_v and_o warm_v from_o the_o sun_n how_o come_v it_o to_o pass_v that_o it_o be_v not_o in_o that_o continual_a agitation_n which_o we_o see_v it_o in_o sometime_o sometime_o we_o hardly_o discern_v it_o move_v at_o all_o sometime_o more_o violent_o and_o that_o sometime_o from_o one_o quarter_n sometime_o from_o another_o be_v this_o a_o natural_a a_o mere_a natural_a motion_n then_o it_o be_v necessary_a and_o will_v be_v uniform_a so_o we_o see_v it_o be_v not_o who_o can_v give_v a_o reason_n sufficient_a to_o satisfy_v a_o inquisitive_a philosopher_n of_o the_o heat_n and_o cold_a in_o the_o air_n in_o several_a country_n nay_o in_o our_o own_o country_n or_o a_o sufficient_a reason_n of_o drought_n and_o moisture_n in_o the_o air_n whence_o be_v it_o think_v you_o that_o it_o be_v not_o always_o dry_a nor_o always_o moist_a not_o always_o stormy_a nor_o always_o calm_a none_o of_o which_o will_v suit_v the_o conservation_n of_o the_o world_n but_o from_o god_n uphold_v those_o quality_n in_o those_o body_n which_o influence_n it_o and_o by_o which_o these_o thing_n be_v cause_v so_o that_o unless_o when_o the_o ordinary_a providence_n of_o god_n be_v not_o withhold_v from_o the_o creature_n in_o some_o particular_a place_n for_o the_o chastisement_n of_o the_o wickedness_n of_o they_o that_o dwell_v therein_o the_o air_n keep_v its_o motion_n and_o course_n the_o wind_n their_o course_n for_o the_o preservation_n of_o our_o body_n and_o the_o advantage_n of_o humane_a affair_n god_n i_o say_v by_o a_o daily_a providence_n uphold_v these_o being_n to_o those_o motion_n and_o measure_n of_o motion_n which_o he_o at_o first_o set_v for_o they_o in_o order_n to_o keep_v the_o world_n in_o joint_n the_o air_n putrifi_v not_o nor_o grow_v infectious_a the_o wind_n sometime_o blow_v sometime_o be_v still_o etc._n etc._n the_o psalmist_n give_v god_n the_o great_a glory_n of_o his_o providence_n in_o this_o particular_a very_o plentiful_o he_o raise_v the_o stormy_a wind_n psalm_n 107._o v._o 25._o he_o walk_v upon_o the_o wing_n of_o the_o wind_n psalm_n 104.3_o he_o bring_v the_o wind_n out_o of_o his_o treasure_n psalm_n 133.7_o he_o cause_v his_o wind_n to_o blow_v psalm_n 147.18_o the_o stormy_a wind_n fulfil_v his_o word_n psalm_n 148.8_o the_o heathen_n have_v such_o a_o sense_n of_o the_o necessity_n of_o a_o divine_a providence_n to_o rule_v this_o creature_n
