that_o be_v the_o principle_n on_o which_o he_o depend_v for_o his_o whole_a theory_n which_o this_o of_o moses_n plain_o confute_v xix_o now_o the_o sum_n of_o all_o this_o discourse_n lie_v here_o moses_n as_o plain_o as_o a_o man_n can_v express_v it_o declare_v that_o the_o water_n whole_o encompass_v the_o earth_n all_o at_o once_o to_o the_o height_n of_o fifteen_o cubit_n above_o the_o and_o press_v down_o so_o that_o unless_o this_o our_o planet_n be_v surround_v quite_o about_o with_o other_o planet_n no_o force_n can_v make_v it_o extend_v into_o a_o oblong_a but_o it_o will_v as_o i_o say_v extend_v into_o a_o equal_a circumference_n and_o if_o they_o be_v so_o place_v round_o about_o than_o all_o the_o planet_n must_v be_v equal_o oblong_v on_o their_o press_a side_n yet_o none_o of_o they_o do_v appear_v unto_o we_o in_o a_o oblong_a but_o in_o a_o round_a form_n and_o further_o he_o himself_o acknowledge_v the_o planet_n all_o to_o lie_v one_o above_o another_o and_o so_o they_o can_v only_o press_v one_o another_o into_o a_o round_a circumference_n as_o i_o say_v before_o we_o find_v yet_o no_o cause_n for_o a_o oblong_a form_n and_o how_o know_v our_o theorist_n of_o what_o matter_n the_o other_o planet_n be_v compose_v whether_o they_o all_o proceed_v from_o such_o fluid_a mass_n as_o we_o do_v and_o settle_v all_o alike_o at_o the_o same_o time_n and_o whether_o their_o outward_a circumference_n be_v of_o air_n or_o fire_n and_o if_o they_o be_v than_o those_o outward_a part_n will_v yield_v one_o to_o another_o and_o stretch_v out_o very_o far_o before_o they_o come_v to_o operate_v upon_o the_o more_o solid_a body_n of_o the_o earth_n many_o more_o be_v the_o difficulty_n which_o will_v arise_v from_o this_o his_o planet_n press_v one_o upon_o another_o but_o i_o will_v not_o trouble_v my_o head_n to_o object_v any_o further_a than_o only_o to_o show_v he_o that_o this_o his_o planet_n press_v one_o upon_o another_o can_v possible_o cause_v a_o oblong_a form_n in_o this_o our_o earth_n it_o can_v only_o force_v it_o into_o a_o flat_a circumference_n xii_o but_o i_o will_v pass_v from_o this_o to_o another_o matter_n in_o his_o new-found_a world_n which_o he_o have_v make_v void_a of_o fountain_n or_o any_o other_o mean_n to_o water_n and_o refresh_v it_o and_o have_v bring_v in_o a_o new_a invention_n of_o river_n towards_o the_o pole_n cause_v by_o vapour_n descend_v from_o the_o superior_a region_n and_o run_v towards_o the_o torrid_a zone_n by_o degree_n branch_a themselves_o out_o with_o several_a as_o it_o be_v vein_n and_o thus_o to_o afford_v moisture_n to_o all_o the_o part_n of_o his_o new_a earth_n i_o observe_v that_o he_o mention_n several_a pool_n and_o lake_n make_v by_o these_o river_n as_o they_o run_v southward_o for_o so_o he_o describe_v they_o and_o set_v they_o forth_o in_o a_o map_n pag._n 231._o i_o have_v now_o a_o great_a difficulty_n which_o i_o desire_v he_o to_o resolve_v i_o in_o how_o these_o hollow_n for_o lake_n and_o channel_n for_o so_o great_a river_n as_o they_o must_v needs_o be_v when_o one_o river_n divide_v itself_o as_o it_o go_v into_o so_o many_o part_n towards_o the_o torrid_a zone_n i_o say_v how_o these_o hollow_n and_o channel_n come_v to_o be_v in_o his_o perfect_a spherical_a world_n for_o i_o hope_v he_o will_v not_o desert_v his_o own_o principle_n that_o all_o fluid_a body_n be_v congeal_v or_o concrete_v rest_n in_o the_o same_o form_n as_o they_o be_v in_o before_o concretion_n who_o then_o make_v these_o channel_n for_o the_o river_n to_o run_v in_o or_o hollow_n for_o his_o lake_n to_o settle_v in_o true_o this_o do_v not_o seem_v to_o i_o coherent_a with_o his_o new_a form_n of_o earth_n for_o the_o vapour_n come_v down_o from_o above_o upon_o his_o new_a earth_n suppose_v it_o to_o be_v perfect_a spherical_a must_v needs_o either_o disperse_v abroad_o or_o sink_v equal_o in_o all_o place_n where_o they_o fall_v and_o can_v have_v no_o descent_n to_o carry_v they_o any_o way_n and_o thus_o can_v make_v up_o so_o great_a a_o body_n as_o we_o suppose_v his_o river_n must_v be_v towards_o the_o north_n where_o they_o fall_v nor_o will_v i_o allow_v any_o declivity_n from_o his_o pole_n towards_o the_o torrid_a zone_n have_v show_v he_o already_o that_o it_o be_v impossible_a by_o his_o principle_n to_o shape_v his_o earth_n into_o a_o oblong_a form_n but_o all_o must_v be_v spherical_a beside_o when_o river_n run_v in_o a_o channel_n they_o never_o part_v but_o meet_v with_o some_o obstruction_n of_o high_a ground_n that_o force_v they_o to_o divide_v and_o then_o his_o river_n divide_v into_o so_o many_o several_a part_n plain_o show_v his_o earth_n have_v many_o hilly_a obstruction_n which_o force_v they_o to_o divide_v into_o several_a branch_n and_o this_o business_n of_o river_n will_v whole_o destroy_v this_o new_a fabric_n of_o the_o earth_n for_o there_o can_v be_v no_o run_v of_o water_n where_o the_o earth_n by_o reason_n of_o its_o spherical_a form_n can_v have_v no_o channel_n to_o receive_v the_o river_n nor_o any_o declivity_n or_o sink_a ground_n to_o convey_v they_o from_o the_o place_n they_o be_v in_o if_o he_o answer_v to_o the_o business_n of_o channel_n that_o though_o there_o be_v none_o at_o the_o first_o frame_v of_o his_o new_a earth_n yet_o the_o fall_n of_o those_o vapour_n which_o arise_v in_o the_o south_n and_o come_v fly_v into_o the_o north_n and_o there_o descend_v may_v in_o time_n work_v down_o channel_n into_o it_o and_o so_o make_v a_o current_n for_o river_n to_o run_v in_o i_o grant_v a_o strong_a fall_n of_o water_n continue_v in_o one_o place_n may_v make_v the_o earth_n sink_v into_o a_o hole_n and_o theorist_n conclude_v his_o preface_n with_o viz._n his_o sincere_a intention_n of_o his_o theory_n be_v to_o justify_v the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o universal_a deluge_n and_o of_o paradise_n and_o protect_v they_o from_o the_o cavil_n of_o those_o that_o be_v no_o wellwisher_n to_o sacred_a history_n and_o how_o that_o upon_o this_o account_n he_o may_v well_o expect_v fair_a usage_n and_o acceptance_n with_o all_o that_o be_v well_o dispose_v and_o true_o for_o my_o part_n can_v i_o find_v but_o the_o least_o appearance_n of_o sincere_a intention_n in_o he_o or_o that_o he_o have_v any_o way_n clear_v these_o doctrine_n i_o shall_v upon_o either_o account_n have_v pass_v over_o in_o silence_n any_o or_o all_o his_o extravagancy_n but_o in_o my_o poor_a judgement_n he_o have_v
