doctr._n as_o the_o general_n of_o a_o field_n appoint_v every_o one_o their_o place_n and_o stand_n call_n horseman_n footman_n gunner_n pikeman_n etc._n etc._n according_o require_v and_o expect_v of_o each_o the_o performance_n of_o his_o duty_n in_o his_o several_a place_n so_o have_v the_o lord_n appoint_v some_o superior_n other_o inferior_n and_o according_o every_o man_n must_v show_v his_o goodness_n as_o in_o all_o thing_n so_o in_o his_o particular_a call_n especial_o and_o be_v faithful_a in_o the_o trust_n repose_v in_o he_o therein_o as_o one_o friend_n shall_v be_v to_o another_o especial_o in_o great_a and_o weighty_a business_n every_o place_n whereunto_o a_o man_n be_v call_v as_o to_o be_v a_o husband_n magistrate_n minister_n housholder_n etc._n etc._n have_v a_o special_a trust_n go_v along_o therewith_o so_o that_o whoso_o will_v show_v himself_o godly_a if_o he_o be_v a_o magistrate_n he_o must_v be_v a_o godly_a magistrate_n if_o he_o be_v a_o zealous_a courageous_a captain_n so_o david_n jehoshaphat_n hezekiah_n josiah_n in_o be_v godly_a king_n suppress_v idolatry_n and_o set_v up_o the_o true_a worship_n of_o god_n 1._o this_o show_v and_o unvizard_v many_o to_o be_v bad_a which_o will_v be_v count_v honest_a man_n 1_o they_o be_v magistrate_n do_v alas_o either_o take_v against_o goodness_n and_o defend_v evil_a or_o at_o least_o like_a gallio_n care_v for_o nothing_o so_o be_v minister_n have_v no_o will_n nor_o skill_n gift_n or_o ability_n to_o teach_v the_o people_n nor_o give_v example_n of_o true_a godliness_n so_o householder_n if_o they_o be_v not_o ill_a example_n of_o swear_v idle-talking_a profane_v the_o lordsday_n and_o the_o like_a yet_o make_v no_o account_n to_o govern_v their_o family_n aright_o in_o read_v the_o word_n instruct_v they_o therein_o pray_v with_o they_o and_o the_o like_a therefore_o let_v none_o so_o think_v of_o themselves_o as_o of_o honest_a man_n and_o godly_a which_o be_v not_o godly_a in_o their_o special_a call_v neither_o let_v other_o commend_v such_o for_o such_o though_o haply_o endue_v with_o some_o good_a quality_n o_o he_o be_v a_o very_a honest_a man_n it_o their_o utmost_a endeavour_n so_o if_o a_o man_n be_v godly_a he_o will_v be_v a_o good_a housholder_n and_o where_o game_n and_o the_o devil_n book_n be_v wont_a to_o be_v rife_o there_o have_v god_n book_n read_v and_o prayer_n exercise_v therefore_o whereas_o the_o godly_a preacher_n and_o christian_n be_v wont_a to_o be_v blame_v as_o man_n that_o can_v abide_v government_n and_o will_v pull_v the_o sceptre_n out_o of_o the_o magistrate_n hand_n as_o korah_n with_o his_o companion_n this_o must_v needs_o be_v a_o foul_a slander_n for_o be_v they_o godly_a man_n yea_o in_o the_o conscience_n of_o their_o adversary_n then_o can_v they_o not_o but_o be_v good_a subject_n and_o be_v indeed_o the_o best_a subject_n who_o pay_v to_o the_o king_n according_a to_o their_o ability_n most_o willing_o that_o pray_v for_o the_o king_n most_o often_o and_o hearty_o that_o break_v few_o of_o his_o law_n and_o they_o lead_v a_o godly_a life_n to_o keep_v god_n wrath_n away_o from_o the_o king_n and_o realm_n whereas_o other_o live_v bad_o and_o thereby_o provoke_v god_n against_o both_o 2._o it_o be_v necessary_a that_o man_n labour_v first_o to_o be_v godly_a 2._o ere_o they_o enter_v into_o their_o particular_a calling_n o_o then_o will_v they_o be_v godly_a magistrate_n minister_n householder_n and_o the_o contrary_n be_v the_o cause_n of_o so_o much_o wrack_n in_o church_n and_o commonwealth_n why_o be_v there_o so_o many_o wicked_a husband_n and_o lewd_a and_o disobedient_a wife_n so_o many_o careless_a householder_n that_o care_v not_o for_o the_o soul_n of_o their_o servant_n and_o child_n and_o why_o so_o many_o bad_a minister_n even_o because_o they_o be_v bad_a man_n and_o have_v not_o first_o endeavour_v to_o be_v holy_a the_o second_o the_o reason_n why_o the_o apostle_n be_v so_o earnest_a with_o they_o for_o duty_n in_o the_o place_n of_o inferior_n its_o twofold_a partly_o upon_o a_o conceit_n that_o be_v in_o the_o mind_n of_o the_o gentile_n that_o christ_n apostle_n and_o their_o follower_n be_v enemy_n to_o government_n and_o can_v not_o abide_v caesar_n which_o come_v to_o pass_v as_o well_o through_o wicked_a man_n raise_v up_o by_o good_a handle_v they_o very_o ill_o and_o have_v be_v of_o a_o rail_n scoff_a spirit_n but_o let_v it_o be_v know_v to_o all_o that_o be_v so_o mind_v that_o the_o faithful_a minister_n and_o christian_n usual_o thus_o slander_v be_v as_o true_a lover_n &_o as_o much_o subject_n to_o government_n as_o any_o other_o whatsoever_o and_o so_o teach_v the_o people_n by_o who_o ministry_n people_n be_v both_o bring_v to_o be_v good_a subject_n and_o likewise_o to_o continue_v in_o subjection_n 2._o minister_n must_v speak_v to_o the_o purpose_n obs._n and_o apply_v themselves_o to_o the_o state_n and_o necessity_n of_o the_o people_n they_o live_v among_o people_n observe_v what_o duty_n be_v most_o neglect_v and_o what_o sin_n be_v rife_a among_o they_o according_o persuade_v to_o the_o former_a and_o dissuade_v from_o the_o latter_a submit_v yourselves_o to_o every_o ordinance_n of_o man_n he_n say_v not_o love_n that_o have_v be_v too_o familiar_a 1._o nor_o obey_v their_o business_n and_o keep_v in_o with_o the_o licentious_a youth_n of_o these_o day_n will_v be_v count_v unreasonable_a but_o grant_v they_o be_v somewhat_o unreasonable_a see_v whether_o you_o by_o your_o negligence_n crossness_n and_o unfaithfulness_n have_v not_o make_v they_o so_o as_o some_o do_v if_o so_o you_o can_v do_v little_a if_o you_o can_v bear_v what_o you_o have_v deserve_v but_o say_v they_o be_v unreasonable_a and_o you_o have_v not_o deserve_v all_o you_o meet_v with_o yet_o for_o all_o that_o it_o be_v your_o duty_n to_o remember_v your_o place_n you_o must_v not_o sin_v for_o company_n o_o who_o can_v do_v it_o why_o be_v god_n so_o unreasonable_a to_o require_v of_o you_o that_o which_o can_v be_v do_v best_o charge_v god_n with_o unreasonableness_n by_o and_o by_o true_a it_o be_v no_o easy_a matter_n but_o servant_n must_v labour_v for_o grace_n 13._o that_o they_o may_v be_v able_a to_o say_v as_o paul_n i_o be_o able_a to_o do_v all_o thing_n but_o pleasure_n and_o they_o may_v be_v godly_a all_o in_o time_n and_o so_o they_o be_v void_a of_o goodness_n hence_o arise_v such_o stir_v in_o family_n which_o be_v there_o grace_n in_o servant_n may_v be_v prevent_v oh_o no_o body_n can_v please_v they_o say_v they_o no_o careless_a body_n it_o may_v be_v whereas_o a_o little_a more_o than_o ordinary_a diligence_n and_o carefulness_n will_v please_v indeed_o but_o though_o servant_n must_v do_v their_o duty_n to_o such_o froward_a master_n yet_o this_o be_v no_o justification_n of_o they_o that_o be_v so_o or_o encouragement_n toother_n worth_a a_o servant_n themselves_o or_o else_o shall_v be_v plague_v with_o such_o as_o themselves_o be_v nay_o who_o know_v whether_o for_o their_o pride_n and_o unconscionableness_n they_o may_v not_o come_v to_o rag_n and_o a_o bit_n of_o bread_n 3._o now_o what_o be_v here_o require_v of_o servant_n towards_o bad_a master_n 3_o must_v also_o be_v perform_v by_o we_o to_o those_o we_o have_v any_o way_n to_o deal_v withal_o thus_o subject_n be_v to_o do_v the_o duty_n of_o subject_n towards_o their_o prince_n though_o they_o shall_v be_v tyrant_n or_o deal_v hardly_o with_o they_o thus_o they_o must_v serve_v god_n and_o come_v to_o church_n and_o must_v be_v save_v by_o jesus_n christ_n but_o to_o prove_v that_o he_o be_v the_o true_a christ_n or_o that_o they_o must_v be_v save_v church_n at_o all_o but_o set_v up_o any_o ignorant_a person_n to_o take_v upon_o they_o the_o office_n of_o preach_v so_o some_o among_o ourselves_o be_v just_o blame_v for_o be_v too_o proud_a give_v to_o censure_v and_o meddle_v with_o matter_n that_o concern_v they_o not_o so_o some_o poor_a man_n that_o have_v nothing_o but_o their_o labour_n and_o a_o family_n depend_v upon_o they_o that_o yet_o be_v negligent_a in_o their_o calling_n and_o look_v to_o live_v of_o other_o and_o it_o may_v be_v go_v to_o three_o or_o four_o sermon_n in_o a_o week_n and_o tarry_v abroad_o a_o day_n or_o two_o here_o three_o or_o four_o there_o or_o as_o some_o go_v from_o house_n to_o house_n and_o live_v of_o other_o who_o though_o they_o can_v talk_v well_o yet_o must_v not_o be_v negligent_a in_o their_o call_v or_o of_o their_o family_n so_o a_o number_n of_o servant_n that_o profess_v religion_n be_v very_o desirous_a to_o hear_v every_o sermon_n who_o yet_o be_v idle_a lazy_a careless_a and_o untrusty_a think_v that_o a_o little_a profession_n of_o goodness_n shall_v bear_v out_o all_o when-as_a thereupon_o there_o be_v more_o require_v at_o their_o hand_n these_o cause_n whether_o it_o be_v by_o word_n or_o deed_n as_o to_o be_v apprehend_v imprison_v put_v in_o iron_n whip_v etc._n etc._n be_v not_o shameful_a but_o glorious_a the_o apostle_n paul_n may_v have_v boast_v more_o of_o his_o iron_n chain_n than_o other_o can_v have_v of_o their_o golden_a chain_n no_o suffering_n be_v base_a if_o it_o be_v for_o a_o good_a cause_n if_o one_o shall_v be_v put_v in_o a_o vile_a dungeon_n drag_v at_o a_o horse_n tale_n etc._n etc._n yet_o be_v for_o the_o cause_n of_o christ_n he_o need_v not_o be_v ashamed_a 1._o this_o rebuke_v all_o such_o that_o be_v and_o then_o how_o will_v they_o answer_v that_o to_o god_n 2._o it_o rebuke_n those_o also_o that_o live_n among_o their_o people_n 2._o yet_o care_v not_o thus_o but_o think_v themselves_o discharge_v that_o they_o meet_v they_o at_o church_n on_o the_o sabbath_n and_o then_o preach_v they_o a_o sermon_n whereas_o all_o the_o week_n after_o they_o consider_v not_o of_o they_o nay_o scarce_o visit_v the_o sick_a but_o either_o be_v so_o entangle_v with_o care_n and_o business_n of_o the_o world_n 4._o that_o they_o can_v or_o so_o addict_v to_o their_o pleasure_n that_o they_o will_v not_o mind_v this_o thus_o they_o be_v less_o fit_a for_o preach_v do_v the_o less_o good_a and_o receive_v all_o at_o a_o venture_n to_o the_o sacrament_n which_o be_v a_o fearful_a thing_n 3._o as_o people_n must_v be_v careful_a for_o their_o minister_n who_o have_v need_n of_o no_o worldly_a care_n hang_v on_o they_o that_o they_o may_v attend_v on_o their_o care_n of_o they_o 3_o so_o they_o must_v be_v willing_a that_o their_o minister_n have_v a_o care_n of_o they_o and_o deal_v private_o with_o they_o and_o they_o this_o many_o can_v away_o with_o but_o will_v that_o the_o minister_n shall_v content_v himself_o with_o see_v they_o at_o church_n but_o not_o to_o look_v into_o their_o behaviour_n in_o their_o family_n or_o to_o pry_v into_o their_o life_n or_o deal_v private_o or_o particular_o who_o yet_o if_o they_o have_v a_o shepherd_n look_v that_o he_o shall_v diligent_o tend_v their_o sheep_n all_o day_n and_o look_v to_o they_o particular_o as_o well_o as_o feed_v they_o they_o shall_v be_v glad_a when_o the_o minister_n will_v come_v to_o their_o house_n and_o sit_v with_o they_o confer_v with_o they_o and_o they_o of_o heavenly_a thing_n etc._n
