it_o be_v refuse_v you_o it_o be_v your_o part_n to_o seek_v for_o help_v that_o be_v real_o unable_a and_o it_o lie_v on_o you_o to_o see_v to_o it_o yourselves_o who_o be_v able_a and_o while_o you_o neither_o do_v yourselves_o nor_o seek_v help_n from_o other_o you_o be_v utter_o in-excusable_a 2._o i_o will_v commend_v to_o you_o the_o necessity_n of_o use_v private_a mean_n and_o that_o have_v under_o his_o charge_n how_o little_a time_n we_o have_v to_o go_v through_o you_o all_o particular_o and_o what_o abound_v ignorance_n there_o be_v in_o the_o great_a part_n of_o the_o as_o intercessor_n appear_v in_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n for_o we_o we_o shall_v speak_v here_o to_o these_o five_o thing_n 1._o wherein_o this_o be_v comfortable_a or_o to_o the_o extent_n of_o it_o 2._o to_o the_o advantage_n that_o follow_v on_o it_o 3._o to_o the_o ground_n of_o this_o consolation_n which_o be_v confirmation_n of_o it_o 4._o to_o this_o at_o what_o time_n and_o particular_a occasion_n the_o people_n of_o god_n may_v and_o aught_o in_o a_o special_a manner_n to_o make_v use_n of_o and_o comfort_v themselves_o in_o it_o and_o 5._o on_o what_o term_n this_o consolation_n be_v allow_v that_o they_o grow_v not_o vain_a and_o proud_a of_o it_o for_o the_o first_o our_o lord_n intercession_n give_v a_o fourfold_a extent_n of_o consolation_n that_o make_v it_o wonderful_a 1._o in_o its_o universality_n as_o to_o the_o person_n to_o who_o it_o be_v extend_v not_o indeed_o to_o all_o man_n in_o the_o world_n but_o to_o all_o that_o will_v make_v use_n vanity_n of_o the_o arminian_o that_o extend_v christ_n death_n and_o intercession_n to_o all_o can_v true_o say_v no_o more_o for_o so_o in_o comfort_n for_o they_o be_v force_v to_o say_v that_o christ_n die_v and_o intend_v his_o death_n for_o many_o that_o will_v never_o get_v good_a of_o he_o but_o we_o say_v all_o that_o he_o intend_v shall_v get_v good_a of_o his_o death_n do_v get_v the_o intend_a good_a of_o it_o yea_o we_o say_v that_o whoever_o will_v make_v use_n of_o he_o shall_v get_v good_a both_o of_o his_o death_n and_o of_o his_o intercession_n so_o heb._n 7.25_o he_o be_v able_a to_o save_v to_o the_o uttermost_a all_o that_o come_v unto_o god_n through_o he_o though_o the_o cause_n seem_v to_o be_v desperate_a and_o the_o sentence_n pronounce_v curse_v be_v he_o live_v long_o in_o security_n hypocrisy_n or_o profanity_n or_o be_v a_o sit_v up_o professor_n whether_o he_o be_v young_a or_o old_a if_o any_o of_o you_o all_o that_o be_v here_o will_v come_v to_o he_o he_o will_v not_o refuse_v to_o be_v employ_v by_o you_o by_o he_o therefore_o as_o the_o apostle_n exhort_v heb._n 1â—_n 15_o let_v we_o offer_v praise_n to_o god_n continual_o and_o as_o praise_v so_o the_o sacrifice_n of_o other_o duty_n and_o they_o shall_v be_v accept_v as_o the_o offer_n oâ—_n the_o gospel_n run_v on_o a_o universality_n and_o exclude_v none_o but_o these_o that_o by_o their_o unbelief_n exclude_v themselves_o so_o his_o intercession_n run_v on_o a_o universality_n if_o any_o man_n sin_n and_o will_v employ_v he_o he_o be_v a_o advocate_n at_o hand_n and_o and_o divide_v godliness_n they_o will_v not_o be_v papist_n puritan_n nor_o sectary_n but_o there_o be_v much_o unholinesse_n in_o their_o practice_n much_o self-seeking_a pride_n hypocrisy_n formality_n deceive_v cozen_a falsehood_n and_o they_o cover_v all_o with_o this_o that_o they_o be_v sound_v as_o to_o their_o profession_n though_o only_o hear_v and_o not_o do_v profess_v and_o not_o practise_v but_o they_o will_v consider_v that_o christ_n say_v not_o bless_a be_v they_o that_o hear_v only_o but_o bless_v be_v they_o that_o do_v the_o will_n of_o god_n o_o beware_v of_o this_o great_a deceit_n it_o be_v a_o piece_n of_o christ_n innocency_n and_o holiness_n that_o no_o violence_n be_v in_o his_o hand_n there_o be_v no_o sinful_a thing_n in_o his_o practice_n no_o his_o mouth_n 2._o because_o this_o word_n of_o god_n prescrive_v the_o doctrine_n of_o faith_n to_o be_v believe_v as_o well_o as_o duty_n to_o be_v perform_v and_o the_o right_n ground_v of_o faith_n be_v a_o main_a if_o not_o the_o main_a thing_n wherein_o the_o image_n of_o god_n consist_v to_o wit_n in_o knowledge_n and_o error_n be_v as_o inconsistent_a with_o knowledge_n as_o ignorance_n be_v yea_o more_o in_o so_o far_o as_o it_o leave_v a_o contrary_a impression_n of_o untruth_n on_o the_o soul_n which_o be_v worse_o than_o simple_a ignorance_n 3._o because_o when_o a_o the_o ground_n of_o our_o faith_n and_o the_o rule_n of_o our_o practice_n as_o for_o instance_n let_v once_o the_o conceit_n and_o fancy_v come_v in_o of_o folk_n be_v above_o ordinance_n no_o conscience_n be_v thenceforth_o make_v of_o sanctify_v the_o sabbath_n or_o lord_n day_n nor_o of_o any_o other_o duty_n of_o worship_n but_o man_n become_v almost_o if_o not_o altogether_o atheist_n yea_o 4._o the_o incoming_a of_o error_n beget_v a_o sort_n of_o presumptuous_a confidence_n therefore_o christ_n say_v he_o that_o break_v one_o of_o these_o commandment_n and_o teach_v man_n so_o therefore_o serious_o on_o this_o whoever_o will_v be_v pure_a as_o christ_n

we_o may_v learn_v in_o speak_v to_o these_o truth_n not_o only_o to_o get_v some_o light_n for_o inform_v of_o our_o judgement_n but_o also_o some_o help_n for_o our_o practice_n take_v two_o or_o three_o uses_n ere_o we_o proceed_v any_o further_a the_o 1._o use_v then_o be_v to_o let_v you_o see_v the_o absolute_a necessity_n of_o believe_v in_o christ_n jesus_n and_o that_o it_o be_v as_o necessary_a for_o the_o attain_n of_o our_o justification_n as_o christ_n die_n be_v for_o our_o justification_n be_v a_o effect_n flow_v from_o several_a cause_n and_o the_o want_n of_o any_o of_o they_o will_v mar_v it_o there_o must_v necessary_o be_v a_o concurrence_n of_o they_o all_o to_o bring_v it_o about_o and_o therefore_o though_o their_o be_v a_o excellent_a worth_n in_o christ_n righteousness_n yet_o there_o be_v a_o necessity_n of_o faith_n to_o lay_v hold_n upon_o it_o and_o to_o make_v it_o we_o god_n order_n in_o the_o covenant_n bear_v this_o out_o wherein_o he_o have_v knit_v the_o promise_n of_o pardon_n of_o sin_n and_o of_o justification_n to_o faith_n and_o rest_v on_o christ_n and_o there_o be_v good_a reason_n for_o it_o as_o 1._o the_o lord_n will_v have_v a_o sinner_n to_o know_v what_o he_o be_v oblige_v to_o christ_n which_o faith_n contribut_v much_o unto_o for_o faith_n stand_v not_o in_o the_o way_n of_o the_o freedom_n of_o justification_n but_o one_o unbeliever_n find_v that_o shall_v have_v it_o to_o say_v that_o the_o blame_n lie_v on_o god_n or_o on_o christ_n because_o the_o offer_n be_v make_v to_o they_o on_o condition_n of_o receive_v it_o by_o faith_n and_o they_o not_o perform_v the_o condition_n their_o gild_n be_v aggrege_v by_o their_o slight_n of_o the_o offer_n it_o be_v true_a that_o we_o be_v not_o now_o deal_v with_o they_o who_o downright_o deny_v the_o truth_n of_o this_o doctrine_n but_o alace_o what_o better_a be_v they_o who_o do_v in_o their_o practice_n deny_v it_o and_o live_v sensles_o and_o secure_o under_o the_o gospel_n we_o conceive_v that_o there_o be_v three_o sort_n of_o person_n that_o have_v need_n of_o a_o word_n to_o be_v speak_v to_o they_o here_o 1._o such_o as_o live_v careless_o and_o secure_o as_o we_o just_a now_o say_v as_o if_o god_n require_v nothing_o of_o they_o at_o all_o as_o they_o be_v bear_v they_o know_v not_o how_o so_o they_o live_v they_o know_v not_o how_o and_o when_o they_o be_v press_v to_o a_o change_n of_o their_o state_n and_o way_n they_o make_v excuse_n partly_o from_o the_o sinfulness_n of_o their_o nature_n that_o they_o can_v do_v nothing_o partly_o from_o the_o abundant_a grace_n of_o god_n that_o he_o must_v do_v all_o but_o it_o will_v never_o excuse_v you_o that_o you_o want_v grace_n and_o have_v a_o sinful_a nature_n for_o who_o i_o pray_v can_v you_o blame_v for_o it_o you_o that_o make_v a_o bachel_n of_o his_o mercy_n if_o you_o continue_v to_o do_v so_o shall_v never_o get_v good_a of_o it_o for_o he_o have_v say_v that_o know_v that_o you_o shall_v believe_v and_o receive_v the_o offer_n of_o christ_n in_o the_o gospel_n renunce_v your_o own_o righteousness_n and_o betake_v you_o to_o christ_n righteousness_n otherways_o you_o can_v on_o good_a ground_n expect_v to_o be_v justify_v 2._o other_o will_v set_v about_o many_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a but_o the_o work_n of_o believe_v they_o can_v never_o be_v bring_v to_o mind_n or_o own_o they_o will_v make_v a_o sort_n of_o conscience_n of_o prayer_n of_o keep_v the_o church_n of_o read_v the_o scripture_n etc._n etc._n but_o to_o give_v obedience_n to_o the_o command_n of_o believe_v they_o mind_v it_o not_o they_o can_v live_v and_o die_v without_o it_o this_o be_v the_o woeful_a and_o soul-ruining_a practice_n of_o the_o jew_n of_o old_a as_o we_o be_v tell_v rom._n 9_o they_o take_v much_o pain_n to_o come_v by_o righteousness_n but_o they_o attain_v it_o not_o because_o they_o seek_v it_o not_o by_o faith_n but_o as_o it_o be_v by_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n for_o they_o stumble_v at_o that_o stumble_a stone_n when_o they_o have_v go_v part_n of_o the_o way_n as_o it_o be_v and_o come_v to_o the_o stone_n of_o believe_v there_o they_o fall_v and_o break_v their_o neck_n hence_o there_o be_v many_o who_o promise_v heaven_n to_o themselves_o and_o think_v that_o they_o have_v do_v something_o for_o it_o who_o yet_o never_o lay_v hold_v on_o christ_n for_o their_o justification_n but_o let_v i_o tell_v you_o that_o though_o you_o can_v go_v the_o great_a length_n in_o holiness_n that_o ever_o any_o do_v since_o adam_n fall_n it_o will_v not_o avail_v you_o if_o you_o neglect_v faith_n in_o christ_n i_o say_v not_o this_o to_o dissuade_v you_o from_o the_o duty_n of_o holiness_n god_n forbid_v but_o to_o divert_v you_o from_o seek_v justification_n by_o they_o study_v the_o duty_n of_o holiness_n but_o seek_v always_o by_o any_o mean_n to_o be_v find_v in_o christ_n and_o in_o his_o righteousness_n
