lay_v their_o ear_n to_o your_o soul_n can_v hear_v it_o yet_o in_o your_o ear_n it_o speak_v as_o loud_a as_o thunder_n and_o no_o less_o terrible_a it_o be_v in_o vain_a to_o wound_v it_o it_o be_v in_o vain_a to_o stop_v its_o mouth_n for_o that_o will_v but_o make_v it_o break_v out_o with_o the_o more_o violence_n and_o outrage_n nothing_o can_v appease_v it_o but_o duty_n and_o work_n why_o find_v so_o much_o sweetness_n as_o engage_v it_o to_o a_o constant_a performance_n of_o duty_n all_o its_o day_n here_o say_v the_o soul_n god_n be_v wont_a to_o walk_v in_o his_o sanctuary_n here_o have_v i_o hear_v his_o voice_n here_o have_v i_o see_v his_o face_n his_o spirit_n have_v here_o breathe_v upon_o i_o his_o consolation_n have_v here_o refresh_v i_o and_o therefore_o here_o will_v i_o wait_v upon_o he_o as_o long_o as_o i_o live_v i_o remember_v well_o say_v the_o soul_n when_o in_o prayer_n and_o meditation_n my_o heart_n have_v be_v fill_v by_o he_o pour_v out_o to_o he_o and_o accept_v with_o he_o i_o remember_v when_o he_o fill_v i_o first_o with_o sigh_n and_o then_o with_o song_n and_o both_o alike_o unutterable_a and_o therefore_o i_o will_v keep_v to_o the_o performance_n of_o these_o duty_n wait_v for_o the_o further_a discovery_n and_o manifestation_n of_o my_o god_n unto_o i_o second_o as_o love_n to_o god_n so_o a_o regular_a self-love_n will_v much_o help_v and_o further_a our_o obedience_n and_o duty_n and_o then_o be_v
from_o he_o he_o that_o ask_v timorous_o only_o beg_v a_o denial_n from_o god_n but_o yet_o that_o this_o boldness_n may_v not_o degenerate_a into_o rudeness_n and_o irreverence_n he_o require_v that_o our_o freedom_n with_o he_o be_v temper_v with_o a_o awful_a fear_n of_o he_o we_o must_v come_v in_o all_o humility_n and_o prostration_n of_o soul_n with_o break_a heart_n and_o bend_a knee_n expectation_n of_o wrath_n and_o indignation_n that_o shall_v devour_v they_o as_o adversary_n this_o kind_n of_o horrid_a fear_n i_o doubt_v not_o but_o be_v common_a to_o most_o wicked_a man_n and_o though_o they_o brave_v it_o out_o and_o most_o of_o they_o speak_v high_a matter_n of_o their_o hope_n of_o heaven_n and_o salvation_n yet_o at_o the_o same_o time_n their_o own_o heart_n and_o conscience_n tell_v they_o sad_a and_o misgive_a story_n of_o hell_n and_o everlasting_a wrath._n but_o now_o a_o true_a and_o filial_a fear_n of_o god_n look_v at_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n with_o to_o sin_n sin_n 1._o as_o to_o sin_n slavish_a fear_n dread_v nothing_o but_o hell_n and_o punishment_n but_o godly_a fear_n dread_v sin_n itself_o the_o one_o fear_n only_o to_o burn_v the_o other_o fear_n for_o to_o sin_n as_o austin_n say_v well_o he_o fear_v hell_n only_o who_o fear_v not_o to_o sin_n but_o fear_n to_o burn_v but_o he_o fear_v to_o sin_n who_o hate_v sin_n as_o he_o will_v hate_v hell_n 2._o slavish_a fear_n usual_o restrain_v only_o from_o external_a and_o those_o also_o the_o more_o gross_a and_o notorious_a act_n of_o sin_n but_o holy_a fear_v over-awes_a the_o heart_n from_o inward_a and_o secret_a sin_n yea_o from_o the_o least_o sin_n whatsoever_o and_o then_o as_o for_o duty_n also_o duty_n 2._o as_o to_o duty_n in_o two_o thing_n brief_o first_o a_o slavish_a fear_n of_o god_n make_v man_n to_o consult_v how_o they_o may_v fly_v from_o god_n as_o adam_n do_v when_o he_o have_v bring_v gild_n upon_o his_o conscience_n by_o his_o fall_n he_o hide_v himself_o from_o god_n in_o the_o garden_n gild_n love_v not_o the_o presence_n of_o its_o judge_n but_o godly_a fear_n be_v still_o exciting_a the_o soul_n to_o approach_v near_o to_o god_n in_o duty_n and_o therefore_o david_n say_v psal_n 5.7_o in_o thy_o fear_n will_v i_o worship_v towards_o thy_o holy_a temple_n the_o fear_n of_o god_n encourage_v the_o soul_n in_o the_o performance_n overwhelm_v with_o fear_n and_o grief_n what_o sweet_a retreat_n than_o to_o betake_v ourselves_o to_o our_o god_n and_o to_o our_o father_n into_o who_o bosom_n we_o may_v unload_v all_o our_o burden_n it_o be_v the_o great_a solace_n of_o a_o afflict_a mind_n to_o lie_v prostrate_a before_o the_o lord_n and_o melt_v itself_o down_o in_o holy_a tear_n and_o in_o holy_a affection_n at_o it_o spirit_n 1._o the_o efficient_a cause_n of_o prayer_n be_v the_o spirit_n first_o the_o efficient_a cause_n of_o prayer_n be_v the_o holy_a ghost_n then_o we_o pray_v when_o we_o breathe_v out_o those_o request_n unto_o god_n that_o the_o holy_a ghost_n have_v breathe_v unto_o we_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v say_v rom._n 8.26_o the_o spirit_n help_v our_o infirmity_n 8.26_o rom._n 8.26_o for_o we_o know_v not_o what_o we_o shall_v pray_v for_o as_o we_o ought_v but_o the_o spirit_n itself_o make_v intercession_n for_o we_o with_o sigh_n and_o groan_n that_o can_v be_v utter_v all_o if_o thou_o do_v but_o whisper_v thy_o prayer_n god_n will_v hear_v it_o that_o which_o be_v but_o whisper_v on_o earth_n it_o ring_v and_o echo_n in_o the_o court_n of_o heaven_n and_o if_o christ_n be_v present_a in_o the_o room_n with_o i_o even_o in_o the_o congregation_n with_o i_o and_o likewise_o in_o my_o closet_n and_o in_o all_o my_o converse_n and_o deal_n in_o the_o world_n how_o can_v it_o be_v possible_a for_o that_o man_n to_o be_v frothy_a and_o vain_a that_o keep_v this_o thought_n alive_a in_o his_o heart_n if_o the_o presence_n of_o some_o earthly_a person_n strike_v a_o awe_n in_o our_o heart_n when_o we_o come_v before_o they_o how_o much_o more_o shall_v the_o consideration_n of_o god_n presence_n affect_v we_o with_o a_o holy_a fear_n suppose_v a_o angel_n shall_v fly_v in_o the_o midst_n of_o we_o that_o be_v here_o present_a with_o a_o rush_n and_o dazzle_a glory_n how_o will_v it_o make_v all_o our_o heart_n beat_v and_o throb_v within_o we_o it_o will_v make_v we_o soon_o abandon_v all_o those_o vain_a thought_n that_o now_o we_o feed_v upon_o those_o thought_n that_o eat_v out_o the_o heart_n and_o life_n of_o duty_n how_o much_o more_o shall_v it_o
