god_n never_o hear_v his_o prayer_n nor_o no_o more_o respect_n it_o than_o he_o respect_v the_o low_v of_o ox_n or_o the_o gruntle_n of_o hog_n he_o be_v find_v in_o his_o prayer_n as_o the_o wild_a she_o be_v so_o sleepy_a and_o dumpish_a that_o any_o man_n may_v take_v she_o in_o her_o month_n you_o shall_v find_v she_o so_o a_o wicked_a man_n have_v his_o prayer_n month_n his_o prayer_n fit_v it_o may_v be_v in_o the_o morning_n or_o in_o the_o evening_n or_o day_n of_o his_o affliction_n and_o misery_n you_o shall_v have_v he_o at_o his_o prayer_n at_o his_o prayer_n fit_v then_o you_o shall_v find_v he_o at_o it_o but_o otherwise_o his_o mind_n be_v about_o other_o matter_n but_o the_o child_n of_o god_n what_o ever_o he_o ail_v he_o go_v with_o his_o petition_n present_o to_o the_o throne_n of_o grace_n and_o there_o he_o never_o remove_v till_o he_o have_v it_o grant_v he_o as_o here_o we_o see_v the_o prayer_n of_o the_o church_n consist_v of_o many_o year_n yet_o be_v count_v but_o one_o suit_n try_v therefore_o and_o examine_v whether_o thy_o prayer_n be_v unsatiable_a prayer_n yea_o or_o no_o and_o for_o help_v herein_o take_v these_o mark_n first_o if_o thy_o prayer_n be_v unsatiable_a prayer_n than_o it_o be_v a_o beg_a prayer_n thou_o praie_v as_o if_o thou_o have_v never_o pray_v before_o as_o if_o thou_o have_v never_o begin_v to_o pray_v and_o thou_o never_o think_v that_o thou_o have_v do_v any_o thing_n till_o thou_o have_v do_v the_o deed_n as_o a_o h●ngrie_a man_n eat_v as_o if_o he_o have_v never_o eat_v before_o so_o the_o unsatiable_a soul_n pray_v as_o if_o he_o have_v never_o pray_v before_o till_o he_o have_v obtain_v that_o he_o have_v pray_v for_o but_o a_o wicked_a man_n he_o pray_v not_o thus_o job_n speak_v of_o carnal_a professor_n job_n 27._o 10._o will_v he_o call_v upon_o god_n at_o all_o time_n see_v thou_o a_o wicked_a man_n go_v to_o a_o good_a duty_n go_v to_o prayer_n do_v you_o think_v that_o he_o will_v hold_v out_o always_o he_o will_v n●ver_o do_v it_o for_o a_o wicked_a man_n he_o reason_n with_o himself_o i_o have_v call_v upon_o god_n thus_o &_o thus_o long_o i_o hope_v i_o need_v not_o pray_v any_o more_o for_o this_o thing_n &_o so_o he_o give_v over_o but_o a_o godly_a man_n he_o will_v be_v always_o call_v upon_o god_n beloved_n there_o be_v a_o beginning_n to_o a_o action_n and_o a_o beginning_n of_o a_o action_n thou_o never_o begin_v to_o lift_v up_o a_o weight_n till_o thou_o stir_v it_o from_o ground_n indeed_o thou_o may_v begin_v towards_o the_o action_n by_o pull_v at_o it_o by_o reach_v at_o it_o but_o thou_o never_o begin_v the_o lift_n up_o of_o the_o weight_n till_o thou_o stir_v it_o from_o its_o place_n thou_o may_v give_v a_o pull_n at_o prayer_n and_o ●ugge_v at_o a_o grace_n but_o thou_o have_v not_o so_o much_o as_o begin_v that_o duty_n till_o thou_o see_v god_n begin_v to_o hear_v thou_o till_o thou_o see_v the_o grace_n a_o come_n therefore_o the_o prophet_n david_n when_o he_o pray_v and_o have_v not_o that_o he_o pray_v for_o his_o prayer_n return_v into_o his_o own_o bosom_n psal_n 35._o 13._o there_o to_o lie_v to_o be_v a_o continual_a he_o gain_v something_o he_o wind_v up_o his_o heart_n high_o or_o something_o or_o other_o he_o get_v as_o a_o child_n that_o see_v the_o mother_n have_v a_o apple_n in_o her_o hand_n and_o it_o will_v fain_o have_v it_o it_o will_v come_v and_o pull_v at_o the_o mother_n hand_n for_o it_o now_o she_o let_v go_v one_o finger_n and_o yet_o she_o hold_v it_o and_o then_o he_o pull_v again_o and_o then_o she_o let_v go_v another_o finger_n and_o yet_o she_o keep_v it_o and_o then_o the_o child_n pull_v again_o and_o will_v never_o leave_v pull_v and_o cry_v till_o it_o have_v get_v it_o from_o his_o mother_n so_o a_o child_n of_o god_n see_v all_o grace_n to_o be_v in_o god_n he_o draw_v near_o to_o the_o throne_n of_o grace_n beg_v for_o it_o &_o by_o his_o earnest_n &_o faithful_a pray_v though_o he_o have_v not_o get_v the_o thing_n total_a that_o he_o desire_v yet_o he_o be_v near_a god_n than_o he_o be_v before_o his_o heart_n grow_v every_o day_n better_o than_o other_o by_o his_o prayer_n he_o obtain_v still_o something_o as_o the_o prophet_n hoseah_n speak_v of_o knowledge_n hos_n 6._o 3._o then_o shall_v we_o know_v if_o we_o follow_v on_o to_o know_v the_o lord_n the_o cause_n that_o many_o fumble_v about_o grace_n but_o never_o get_v it_o they_o be_v ever_o repent_v but_o never_o repent_v ever_o learning_n but_o never_o learn_v the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o truth_n everlasting_a ever_o strive_v but_o never_o get_v power_n over_o their_o corruption_n etc._n etc._n because_o they_o fumble_v about_o it_o in_o their_o own_o strength_n and_o take_v it_o not_o in_o the_o right_a method_n let_v the_o soul_n come_v with_o faith_n in_o christ_n and_o believe_v it_o shall_v speed_v and_o have_v grace_n and_o power_n from_o christ_n his_o grace_n and_o from_o christ_n power_n and_o then_o it_o shall_v speed_v christ_n have_v promise_v john_n 16._o that_o whatsoever_o we_o ask_v the_o father_n in_o his_o name_n he_o will_v give_v it_o we_o christ_n belove_v be_v a_o excellent_a surety_n indeed_o our_o credit_n be_v crack_v in_o heaven_n we_o may_v think_v to_o go_v and_o fetch_v this_o and_o that_o grace_n in_o our_o own_o name_n and_o miss_v of_o it_o as_o the_o servant_n may_v go_v to_o the_o merchant_n for_o ware_n in_o his_o own_o name_n but_o the_o merchant_n will_v not_o deliver_v they_o to_o he_o in_o his_o own_o name_n unless_o he_o come_v for_o in_o his_o master_n name_n so_o when_o a_o soul_n go_v to_o the_o throne_n of_o grace_n with_o a_o ticket_n from_o christ_n if_o he_o can_v say_v lord_n it_o be_v for_o the_o honour_n of_o christ_n i_o come_v for_o grace_n and_o holiness_n and_o strength_n against_o my_o corruption_n lord_n here_o be_v a_o ticket_n from_o christ_n most_o certain_o he_o shall_v speed_v but_o man_n must_v take_v heed_n that_o they_o foist_v not_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n that_o they_o foist_v not_o a_o ticket_n to_o say_v that_o christ_n send_v they_o when_o it_o be_v their_o own_o self-love_n and_o their_o own_o lust_n that_o send_v they_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o to_o pray_v and_o at_o the_o end_n to_o say_v through_o christ_n our_o lord_n amen_n no_o for_o this_o may_v be_v a_o mere_a foist_v of_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n but_o can_v thou_o pray_v and_o show_v that_o christ_n send_v thou_o and_o say_v as_o the_o servant_n i_o come_v from_o my_o master_n and_o he_o send_v i_o lord_n it_o false_a and_o unsound_a as_o that_o the_o viper_n die_v when_o they_o bring_v forth_o their_o young_a for_o say_v they_o the_o young_a eat_v out_o the_o old_a one_o bowel_n that_o bear_v shape_v all_o their_o young_a by_o lick_v of_o they_o that_o the_o swan_n sing_v sweet_a at_o her_o death_n that_o the_o adamant_n stone_n be_v soften_v by_o goat_n blood_n etc._n etc._n these_o thing_n be_v not_o that_o many_o christian_n be_v always_o weep_v and_o mourning_n and_o sigh_v and_o sob_v from_o day_n to_o day_n all_o their_o life_n time_n and_o will_v not_o be_v comfort_v because_o of_o these_o discouragement_n 1_o thes_n 4._o 13._o sorrow_n not_o say_v the_o apostle_n as_o those_o that_o have_v no_o hope_n as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v sorrow_n if_o you_o will_v but_o do_v not_o sorrow_n as_o it_o a_o little_a i_o say_v that_o a_o wicked_a man_n if_o he_o be_v in_o heaven_n he_o can_v find_v no_o delight_n there_o as_o for_o example_n take_v a_o beast_n for_o so_o be_v every_o man_n by_o his_o own_o knowledge_n in_o regard_n of_o the_o life_n of_o grace_n as_o say_v the_o prophet_n jeremy_n though_o a_o man_n take_v a_o ox_n or_o a_o ass_n and_o bring_v he_o unto_o the_o king_n table_n and_o set_v before_o he_o all_o the_o delicate_n which_o appertain_v unto_o king_n let_v he_o have_v a_o dinner_n before_o he_o that_o cost_v a_o hundred_o pound_n yet_o he_o have_v rather_o be_v in_o the_o field_n among_o his_o fellow_n eat_v grass_n or_o set_v a_o crown_n of_o gold_n upon_o a_o beast_n head_n he_o will_v not_o regard_v it_o but_o cast_v it_o off_o into_o the_o mire_n for_o so_o long_o as_o the_o beast_n be_v not_o transform_v and_o make_v capable_a of_o the_o honour_n that_o be_v in_o a_o man_n he_o can_v conceive_v of_o the_o pleasure_n and_o delight_n that_o do_v belong_v unto_o man_n even_o so_o let_v a_o wicked_a man_n enjoy_v all_o the_o glory_n of_o heaven_n and_o what_o will_v he_o say_v we_o ●ay_v perceive_v a_o little_a by_o bring_v he_o to_o the_o word_n and_o ordinance_n of_o god_n tie_v he_o to_o the_o constant_a use_n of_o they_o to_o meditate_v on_o heaven_n and_o to_o walk_v circumspect_o and_o precise_o in_o his_o whole_a course_n of_o life_n and_o he_o will_v say_v this_o be_v more_o than_o needs_o this_o he_o think_v be_v too_o precise_a too_o austere_a a_o life_n for_o he_o he_o can_v away_o with_o such_o purity_n and_o strictness_n but_o if_o he_o think_v this_o so_o strange_a which_o be_v nothing_o in_o comparison_n and_o be_v but_o a_o shadow_n or_o poor_a resemblance_n of_o the_o holiness_n and_o purity_n that_o shall_v be_v what_o think_v you_o will_v he_o do_v if_o he_o be_v in_o heaven_n where_o there_o be_v nothing_o but_o continual_a praise_v and_o glorify_v of_o god_n for_o evermore_o where_o there_o shall_v not_o be_v so_o much_o as_o one_o earthly_a thought_n or_o word_n pertain_v to_o the_o world_n or_o the_o affair_n of_o this_o life_n but_o a_o continual_a sound_v forth_o of_o the_o praise_n of_o god_n there_o be_v nothing_o but_o grace_n and_o speak_v of_o heaven_n all_o their_o word_n be_v heavenly_a their_o joy_n be_v heavenly_a and_o their_o whole_a delight_n be_v nothing_o but_o sound_v forth_o uncessant_a hallelujah_n unto_o god_n for_o evermore_o now_o if_o a_o wicked_a man_n be_v there_o what_o will_v he_o say_v sure_o he_o will_v say_v they_o be_v all_o puritan_n and_o will_v never_o endure_v it_o alas_o in_o this_o life_n there_o be_v but_o a_o little_a pray_v a_o little_a grace_n a_o little_a holiness_n in_o comparison_n of_o that_o which_o shall_v be_v here_o be_v any_o man_n weary_a of_o good_a duty_n of_o the_o worship_n and_o service_n of_o god_n let_v he_o know_v then_o that_o he_o can_v never_o endure_v the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n for_o if_o he_o be_v weary_a of_o a_o little_a what_o will_v he_o do_v when_o he_o shall_v come_v into_o a_o place_n where_o there_o shall_v be_v nothing_o but_o continual_a praise_v of_o god_n be_v it_o so_o that_o glorious_a apparel_n but_o what_o be_v these_o sin_n dead_a in_o he_o no_o but_o the_o strength_n of_o they_o be_v carry_v up_o into_o a_o high_a lust_n for_o if_o he_o shall_v follow_v whore_v or_o game_n &c._n &c._n the_o lust_n of_o his_o covetousness_n will_v be_v curb_v and_o his_o gain_n will_v not_o come_v in_o with_o such_o a_o full_a career_n unto_o he_o now_o all_o these_o sin_n forenamed_a be_v but_o attendant_n and_o slave_n unto_o this_o one_o lust_n so_o many_o man_n it_o may_v be_v will_v give_v over_o a_o thousand_o sin_n yea_o all_o except_o this_o one_o yet_o all_o those_o thousand_o sin_n be_v not_o mortify_v nay_o it_o may_v be_v he_o scarce_o think_v upon_o any_o of_o they_o why_o because_o they_o be_v take_v up_o with_o a_o high_a lust_n even_o so_o it_o be_v with_o many_o civil_a formal_a professor_n they_o will_v come_v to_o church_n miss_v never_o a_o sermon_n that_o they_o can_v come_v unto_o they_o will_v talk_v of_o heaven_n they_o will_v not_o omit_v any_o holy_a communication_n they_o will_v read_v the_o scripture_n pray_v in_o their_o family_n neglect_v no_o holy_a duty_n why_o then_o what_o be_v their_o sin_n it_o be_v not_o the_o omit_v of_o these_o thing_n but_o the_o careless_a practice_n of_o they_o in_o their_o life_n and_o conversation_n for_o although_o these_o sin_n be_v in_o a_o swoon_n the_o strength_n of_o they_o be_v go_v up_o to_o maintain_v a_o high_a lust_n for_o suppose_v he_o go_v not_o to_o church_n how_o shall_v he_o maintain_v his_o profession_n and_o if_o he_o can_v not_o now_o and_o then_o speak_v of_o heaven_n it_o be_v impossible_a he_o shall_v have_v his_o depth_n of_o selfe-deceipt_n therefore_o we_o conclude_v these_o sin_n be_v not_o mortify_v they_o only_o be_v civilise_a three_o sin_n may_v be_v say_v to_o be_v civilise_a when_o the_o sap_n of_o sin_n be_v take_v away_o and_o no_o contrary_a grace_n infuse_v as_o for_o example_n suppose_v a_o man_n give_v over_o drunkenness_n yet_o if_o this_o man_n be_v not_o fill_v with_o the_o spirit_n his_o drunkenness_n be_v not_o mortify_v though_o he_o live_v sober_o afterward_o all_o the_o day_n of_o his_o life_n again_o suppose_v a_o man_n give_v over_o his_o intemperate_a anger_n he_o be_v not_o touchy_a nor_o choleric_a nor_o subject_n to_o passion_n yet_o if_o he_o have_v not_o turn_v his_o anger_n against_o himself_o for_o every_o one_o of_o his_o corruption_n which_o break_v out_o against_o god_n his_o anger_n be_v not_o mortify_v suppose_v a_o man_n be_v not_o give_v over_o to_o worldly_a grief_n but_o have_v give_v it_o over_o yet_o if_o his_o grief_n be_v not_o turn_v another_o way_n as_o to_o grieve_v for_o his_o sin_n his_o grief_n be_v not_o mortify_v again_o suppose_v a_o man_n be_v not_o set_v upon_o a_o merry_a pin_n ever_o jest_v or_o tell_v forth_o merry_a tale_n but_o now_o he_o have_v give_v they_o over_o yet_o if_o he_o have_v not_o set_v his_o joy_n on_o the_o way_n of_o god_n and_o learn_v true_o to_o be_v merry_a in_o the_o lord_n it_o be_v impossible_a we_o can_v say_v his_o carnal_a mirth_n be_v mortify_v for_o as_o the_o schoolman_n say_v there_o be_v nothing_o corrupt_v till_o another_o thing_n be_v produce_v there_o be_v no_o dissolution_n of_o wood_n until_o it_o be_v turn_v into_o ash_n so_o sin_n be_v never_o take_v away_o nor_o utter_o dissolve_v until_o there_o be_v contrary_a grace_n bring_v into_o the_o heart_n instead_o thereof_o so_o than_o unless_o therebe_n contrary_a grace_n wrought_v in_o the_o heart_n as_o the_o contrary_n of_o all_o those_o sin_n forego_v they_o be_v but_o only_o civilise_a and_o not_o mortify_v four_o sin_n may_v be_v say_v to_o be_v civilise_a when_o it_o be_v overwharted_a by_o a_o high_a principle_n as_o when_o a_o man_n be_v sensible_a of_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n and_o have_v the_o flash_n of_o a_o accuse_a conscience_n fly_v daily_o into_o his_o face_n lie_v under_o the_o guilt_n of_o many_o horrible_a sin_n it_o be_v impossible_a for_o he_o to_o go_v on_o with_o rest_n and_o quietness_n in_o those_o his_o unholy_a course_n wherein_o he_o use_v to_o walk_v he_o may_v forsake_v they_o for_o a_o while_n but_o yet_o he_o can_v mortify_v they_o but_o as_o a_o schoolboy_n that_o play_v the_o truant_n while_o he_o be_v under_o the_o rod_n he_o will_v confess_v his_o fault_n and_o promise_v to_o do_v so_o no_o
