in_o it_o so_o then_o here_o be_v the_o trial_n of_o thyself_o god_n punish_v that_o we_o may_v amend_v and_o we_o do_v not_o then_o sure_o we_o be_v such_o as_o profit_v not_o in_o his_o school_n on_o the_o other_o side_n god_n lay_v his_o cross_n upon_o i_o i_o feel_v it_o i_o acknowledge_v it_o his_o rod_n for_o my_o offence_n and_o i_o be_o bring_v to_o a_o more_o carefulness_n and_o heede-taking_a unto_o my_o way_n then_o may_v i_o conceive_v comfort_n unto_o my_o own_o hart_n in_o that_o i_o profit_n by_o the_o lord_n correction_n the_o second_o sermon_n vers._n 3._o tell_v this_o life_n also_o again_o we_o see_v that_o it_o be_v enjoin_v they_o not_o only_o to_o know_v and_o consider_v those_o thing_n themselves_o but_o also_o to_o make_v they_o know_v and_o teach_v the_o right_a use_n of_o they_o to_o their_o child_n which_o be_v speak_v to_o they_o in_o one_o particular_a be_v also_o enjoin_v unto_o we_o in_o regard_n of_o y_fw-fr e_o whole_a word_n of_o god_n in_o general_a that_o be_v that_o we_o have_v a_o care_n to_o instruct_v and_o bring_v up_o our_o child_n in_o the_o knowledge_n and_o fear_n of_o god_n that_o the_o honour_n of_o god_n may_v be_v retain_v among_o man_n and_o to_o their_o posterity_n as_o also_o that_o we_o may_v leave_v behind_o we_o a_o godly_a seed_n the_o which_o albeit_o it_o be_v enjoin_v unto_o they_o under_o the_o 6.7_o law_n and_o confirm_v unto_o we_o in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o 6.4_o gospel_n that_o it_o may_v appear_v to_o be_v a_o duty_n for_o ever_o require_v of_o the_o people_n of_o god_n yet_o we_o see_v how_o little_a it_o be_v almost_o every_o where_n regard_v in_o so_o much_o that_o for_o lack_v of_o godly_a education_n the_o parent_n let_v they_o run_v at_o random_n the_o youth_n of_o this_o land_n do_v seem_v already_o to_o have_v receive_v unto_o themselves_o the_o profession_n of_o atheism_n and_o all_o impiety_n which_o if_o parent_n think_v it_o their_o duty_n to_o instruct_v they_o otherwise_o shall_v among_o we_o be_v redress_v but_o let_v all_o that_o fear_n god_n and_o make_v a_o conscience_n to_o obey_v his_o will_n look_v unto_o their_o duty_n in_o this_o behalf_n and_o take_v heed_n that_o they_o pass_v not_o over_o with_o carelessness_n the_o education_n of_o their_o child_n as_o be_v the_o manner_n of_o the_o wicked_a among_o who_o they_o do_v dwell_v beside_o this_o we_o see_v that_o the_o prophet_n will_v this_o to_o be_v make_v know_v to_o the_o generation_n follow_v and_o so_o from_o one_o to_o a_o other_o and_o yet_o it_o be_v a_o particular_a action_n the_o force_n whereof_o they_o only_o feel_v rest_n which_o teach_v unto_o we_o that_o the_o work_n of_o god_n that_o he_o bring_v to_o pass_v in_o extraordinary_a manner_n upon_o the_o face_n of_o the_o earth_n be_v in_o regard_n of_o the_o use_n and_o end_n of_o they_o to_o be_v consider_v and_o regard_v in_o all_o generation_n for_o if_o they_o be_v the_o work_n of_o his_o wrath_n in_o the_o punishemente_n of_o his_o foe_n or_o sharp_a and_o bitter_a affliction_n upon_o his_o people_n fall_v from_o obedience_n to_o his_o truth_n or_o yet_o of_o his_o mercy_n show_v unto_o penitent_a sinner_n or_o revenge_v for_o the_o injury_n do_v unto_o his_o saint_n the_o lord_n be_v always_o the_o same_o they_o be_v to_o be_v look_v for_o upon_o the_o like_a occasion_n and_o especial_o those_o that_o it_o have_v please_v the_o holie-ghost_n to_o register_v in_o the_o holy_a scripture_n which_o be_v therefore_o set_v down_o that_o we_o may_v learn_v by_o they_o the_o punishment_n that_o we_o sin_v not_o as_o they_o do_v that_o feel_v they_o lest_o we_o feel_v they_o also_o and_o the_o mercy_n that_o we_o may_v take_v the_o same_o course_n which_o they_o do_v that_o in_o the_o love_n of_o god_n we_o may_v find_v the_o like_a favour_n and_o so_o make_v the_o word_n of_o god_n both_o in_o the_o precept_n and_o also_o example_n thereof_o a_o continual_a direction_n for_o the_o course_n of_o our_o whole_a life_n 6_o that_o which_o be_v leave_v of_o the_o palmerworm_n etc._n etc._n this_o be_v the_o thing_n that_o he_o have_v make_v so_o much_o preparation_n for_o the_o sum_n whereof_o be_v thus_o much_o that_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n be_v so_o upon_o they_o with_o punishment_n by_o famine_n and_o dearth_n that_o not_o their_o superfluity_n or_o a_o part_n of_o their_o necessary_a food_n be_v keep_v from_o they_o but_o the_o lord_n have_v send_v his_o several_a punishemente_n upon_o they_o one_o after_o a_o other_o that_o among_o they_o they_o have_v devour_v all_o and_o leave_v nothing_o now_o if_o we_o look_v into_o this_o that_o the_o prophet_n speak_v according_a to_o the_o action_n do_v there_o be_v none_o of_o the_o people_n that_o need_v to_o be_v so_o prepare_v that_o they_o may_v understand_v it_o for_o it_o be_v apparent_a even_o before_o their_o eye_n so_o that_o the_o prophet_n seem_v after_o so_o great_a speech_n afore_o hand_n at_o the_o end_n to_o say_v in_o effect_n nothing_o for_o if_o a_o man_n shall_v come_v among_o we_o and_o call_v man_n in_o the_o marketplace_n to_o draw_v near_o and_o call_v for_o attention_n to_o a_o solemn_a proclamation_n shall_v in_o the_o end_n tell_v the_o people_n that_o corn_n be_v dear_a and_o so_o depart_v a_o number_n will_v condemn_v he_o of_o folly_n and_o yet_o he_o shall_v say_v as_o much_o in_o effect_n as_o the_o word_n of_o this_o prophet_n do_v express_v but_o we_o must_v understand_v and_o that_o it_o be_v not_o simple_o the_o thing_n that_o the_o prophet_n name_v they_o to_o consider_v of_o and_o no_o more_o but_o it_o be_v their_o sencelessenesse_n and_o security_n in_o that_o they_o be_v thus_o smite_v of_o the_o lord_n be_v not_o yet_o move_v with_o repentance_n nor_o care_v any_o whit_n to_o seek_v reconciliation_n with_o his_o majesty_n so_o that_o the_o meaning_n of_o the_o holy_a ghoost_n be_v evident_a it_o remain_v that_o we_o observe_v those_o thing_n out_o of_o the_o word_n that_o be_v to_o be_v note_v for_o our_o instruction_n first_o these_o so_o diverse_a and_o present_a punishment_n one_o after_o another_o to_o execute_v that_o part_n of_o the_o lord_n determination_n which_o y_o e_z former_a have_v leave_v undo_v do_v commend_v to_o we_o y_fw-mi e_fw-it power_n that_o god_n be_v of_o to_o punish_v y_z e_o sinner_n &_o transgressor_n of_o his_o law_n to_o y_z e_z end_n that_o we_o may_v learn_v to_o take_v heed_n &_o beware_v that_o we_o cast_v not_o behind_o our_o back_n as_o many_o man_n do_v y_z e_z consideration_n of_o god_n high_a of_o the_o east_n country_n to_o go_v in_o long_o garmence_v which_o when_o they_o be_v to_o do_v any_o labour_n of_o importance_n they_o do_v gird_v up_o to_o the_o end_n that_o they_o may_v no_o way_n be_v hinder_v but_o may_v perform_v the_o same_o with_o more_o readiness_n and_o more_o effectual_o now_o the_o prophet_n by_o this_o kind_n of_o speech_n do_v teach_v the_o minister_n first_o that_o they_o employ_v themselves_o in_o the_o execution_n of_o those_o mean_n that_o may_v turn_v away_o the_o judgement_n of_o god_n from_o the_o people_n with_o all_o expedition_n and_o teach_v we_o this_o lesson_n that_o whatsoever_o the_o lord_n command_v we_o out_o of_o his_o word_n day_n we_o take_v heed_n of_o defer_v or_o put_v of_o from_o day_n to_o day_n for_o that_o the_o wrath_n of_o the_o lord_n come_v of_o a_o sudden_a and_o with_o all_o speedines_n endeavour_n to_o do_v the_o same_o not_o consult_v with_o flesh_n and_o blood_n but_o propound_v before_o our_o eye_n the_o authority_n of_o he_o that_o command_v and_o the_o punishment_n which_o do_v abide_v the_o transgressiâ—ours_n and_o disobedient_a secondlie_o in_o this_o kind_n of_o speech_n he_o will_v the_o whereby_o we_o learn_v godliness_n that_o the_o lord_n our_o god_n do_v not_o only_o require_v at_o our_o hand_n in_o a_o general_a sort_n that_o we_o do_v his_o will_n but_o also_o that_o we_o do_v wax_v wise_a by_o observation_n and_o diligent_o mark_v by_o experience_n what_o thing_n they_o be_v that_o be_v any_o way_n a_o hindrance_n unto_o we_o in_o the_o discharge_n of_o that_o duty_n that_o we_o owe_v unto_o god_n &_o careful_o to_o use_v all_o those_o mean_n that_o may_v direct_v we_o to_o avoid_v they_o which_o be_v a_o lesson_n that_o be_v very_o needful_a to_o be_v learn_v of_o every_o christian_a and_o be_v right_o use_v shall_v great_o increase_v we_o in_o true_a spiritual_a wisdom_n and_o holiness_n for_o in_o this_o regard_n it_o be_v that_o christian_n be_v call_v soldier_n not_o only_o that_o they_o may_v fight_v against_o the_o enemy_n of_o their_o soul_n but_o also_o that_o by_o experience_n they_o may_v wax_v wise_a and_o spiritual_o politic_a to_o observe_v diligent_o wherein_o it_o be_v that_o they_o be_v most_o overtake_v and_o careful_o to_o fortify_v themselves_o there_o not_o only_o by_o strengthen_v their_o spiritual_a armour_n but_o also_o by_o lessen_v the_o power_n of_o the_o old_a man_n in_o take_v away_o all_o those_o allurement_n or_o bait_n that_o he_o have_v feed_v himself_o upon_o to_o fight_v against_o the_o soul_n he_o will_v they_o to_o lament_v which_o be_v that_o earnest_a grief_n which_o be_v conceive_v in_o the_o heart_n by_o the_o livelie_a sense_n of_o any_o misery_n and_o this_o be_v not_o only_o enjoin_v unto_o they_o as_o they_o be_v a_o part_n of_o the_o people_n and_o therefore_o subject_a to_o the_o general_a punishment_n but_o especial_o for_o that_o they_o be_v the_o minister_n of_o god_n to_o stand_v as_o it_o be_v in_o the_o gap_n between_o god_n and_o his_o people_n to_o entreat_v the_o lord_n for_o they_o and_o to_o speak_v in_o the_o name_n of_o all_o for_o which_o cause_n it_o be_v requisite_a that_o the_o minister_n of_o god_n be_v such_o as_o have_v a_o especial_a sense_n of_o the_o thing_n that_o the_o people_n stand_v in_o need_n of_o and_o that_o in_o more_o measure_n than_o any_o common_a christian_a for_o else_o shall_v they_o never_o deal_v effectual_o with_o the_o lord_n for_o they_o nor_o faithful_o with_o they_o from_o he_o again_o he_o bid_v they_o lie_v in_o sackcloth_n which_o be_v also_o a_o phrase_n of_o speech_n express_v the_o manner_n of_o their_o behaviour_n in_o the_o action_n of_o grief_n and_o sorrow_n for_o they_o be_v wont_v in_o such_o the_o godly_a for_o ever_o be_v that_o as_o we_o be_v teach_v out_o of_o the_o word_n gird_n to_o remove_v from_o we_o all_o impediment_n that_o may_v let_v we_o from_o well-dooing_a so_o in_o this_o we_o learn_v godliness_n that_o we_o must_v take_v unto_o ourselves_o all_o provoke_a mean_n whereby_o we_o may_v be_v make_v more_o fit_n and_o able_a to_o discharge_v our_o duty_n the_o more_o he_o from_o all_o goodness_n if_o they_o be_v not_o wise_o look_v unto_o so_o have_v it_o on_o the_o other_o side_n by_o reason_n of_o the_o dulness_n that_o it_o be_v of_o unto_o any_o goodness_n need_v of_o many_o spur_n and_o prick_v to_o stir_v he_o uppe_o without_o which_o he_o shall_v not_o only_o keep_v himself_o from_o the_o perform_v of_o many_o duty_n that_o be_v require_v at_o his_o hand_n but_o also_o freeze_v and_o wax_v cold_a in_o that_o which_o he_o have_v begin_v so_o that_o join_v the_o former_a and_o this_o together_o he_o that_o determine_v to_o become_v a_o christian_a indeed_o and_o ever_o look_v to_o attain_v unto_o any_o acceptable_a measure_n of_o godliness_n or_o have_v attain_v thereunto_o to_o continue_v therein_o unto_o the_o end_n must_v careful_o watch_v to_o remove_v all_o thing_n that_o he_o see_v may_v hynder_n he_o and_o diligent_o take_v uppe_o all_o those_o help_n which_o may_v further_o he_o in_o the_o same_o the_o lack_n of_o observation_n church_n be_v guide_v by_o a_o council_n of_o minister_n be_v to_o be_v prepare_v to_o a_o fast_o by_o the_o authority_n of_o the_o whole_a you_o may_v further_o say_v unto_o i_o what_o if_o the_o eldership_n of_o minister_n do_v not_o or_o will_v not_o proclaim_v it_o whether_o ought_v a_o particular_a minister_n who_o in_o that_o case_n be_v as_o a_o private_a man_n to_o do_v it_o or_o no_o answer_v i_o answer_v that_o if_o other_o man_n will_v not_o do_v their_o duty_n yet_o i_o may_v not_o meddle_v with_o it_o but_o the_o example_n or_o authority_n of_o other_o must_v not_o make_v i_o leave_v my_o own_o duty_n undo_v so_o that_o it_o be_v true_a a_o general_n fast_o in_o a_o whole_a kingdom_n or_o in_o many_o part_n thereof_o may_v not_o be_v proclaim_v by_o one_o minister_n yet_o may_v he_o and_o by_o the_o word_n of_o god_n he_o ought_v when_o god_n threaten_v or_o punish_v fast_o call_v his_o own_o charge_n unto_o this_o same_o exercise_n last_o he_o show_v in_o the_o speech_n not_o only_o express_v a_o great_a and_o heavy_a grief_n but_o also_o a_o mind_n exceed_o trouble_v in_o the_o same_o for_o the_o word_n alas_o this_o day_n which_o shall_v go_v together_o do_v in_o effect_n signify_v thus_o much_o great_a and_o grievous_a be_v our_o misery_n and_o the_o burden_n thereof_o lie_v so_o heavy_a upon_o we_o that_o this_o day_n we_o be_v as_o utter_o cast_v humble_a soul_n and_o what_o greeved_a heart_n we_o be_v to_o be_v of_o when_o the_o lord_n threaten_v to_o punish_v we_o we_o be_v employ_v in_o this_o exercise_n to_o the_o end_n that_o we_o may_v learn_v even_o as_o it_o be_v to_o break_v our_o own_o heart_n and_o to_o enforce_v they_o unto_o a_o more_o deep_a meditation_n of_o our_o forlorn_a condition_n than_o ever_o have_v enter_v into_o we_o heretofore_o again_o whereas_o they_o be_v will_v to_o say_v the_o day_n of_o the_o lord_n be_v at_o hand_n he_o do_v not_o mean_a that_o general_a day_n wherein_o he_o will_v call_v to_o
