law_n and_o thus_o they_o separate_v christ_n from_o their_o sacrifice_n think_v they_o have_v discharge_v their_o duty_n very_o well_o when_o they_o have_v sacrifice_v and_o offer_v their_o unable_a to_o do_v the_o one_o and_o the_o other_o be_v as_o unsufficient_a to_o help_v they_o and_o thus_o israel_n which_o follow_v the_o law_n of_o righteousness_n do_v not_o attain_v to_o the_o law_n of_o righteousness_n because_o they_o seek_v it_o not_o by_o faith_n 9.31.32_o but_o as_o it_o be_v by_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n for_o they_o be_v ignorant_a of_o the_o righteousness_n do_v otherwise_o but_o alas_o the_o number_n of_o they_o be_v very_o few_o especial_o in_o the_o future_a age_n after_o moses_n for_o their_o blind_a guide_n have_v so_o leven_v the_o people_n with_o their_o corrupt_a doctrine_n that_o at_o the_o time_n of_o our_o saviour_n come_v in_o the_o flesh_n we_o reâ—dâ—_n but_o of_o two_o to_o wit_n simeon_n and_o anna_n that_o desire_v he_o or_o look_v for_o he_o for_o although_o all_o of_o they_o have_v in_o their_o mouth_n the_o messiah_n 87._o and_o the_o bless_a estate_n of_o the_o kingdom_n of_o david_n yet_o they_o dream_v that_o this_o yea_o such_o a_o covenant_n as_o they_o be_v able_a to_o keep_v and_o fulfil_v if_o noâ—_n by_o do_v yet_o by_o make_v satisfaction_n with_o their_o sacrifice_n and_o though_o jesus_n christ_n himself_o for_o the_o remove_n of_o this_o veil_n do_v in_o the_o five_o of_o matthew_n take_v occasion_n true_o to_o expound_v the_o law_n as_o it_o be_v the_o covenant_n of_o work_n show_v that_o it_o do_v not_o only_o require_v external_a righteousness_n but_o internal_a also_o of_o they_o that_o will_v be_v justify_v by_o the_o work_v thereof_o and_o so_o remove_v that_o false_a gloss_n week_n or_o in_o the_o year_n they_o must_v fast_o etc._n etc._n or_o else_o their_o soul_n can_v have_v no_o rest_n but_o mistake_v i_o not_o i_o pray_v in_o imagine_v that_o i_o speak_v against_o the_o do_n of_o these_o thing_n for_o i_o do_v they_o all_o myself_o but_o against_o rest_v in_o the_o do_n of_o they_o the_o which_o i_o desire_v not_o to_o do_v and_o thus_o you_o see_v that_o man_n blind_a understanding_n do_v not_o only_o present_a unto_o the_o sensual_a appetite_n sensual_a object_n but_o also_o to_o the_o rational_a appetite_n rational_a object_n so_o that_o man_n poor_a soul_n be_v not_o only_o keep_v from_o rest_n in_o god_n by_o mean_n of_o sensuality_n but_o also_o by_o mean_n of_o formality_n if_o satan_n can_v keep_v we_o from_o seek_v rest_n in_o god_n by_o feede_v our_o sense_n with_o our_o mother_n evahs_n apple_n than_o he_o set_v we_o to_o seek_v he_o in_o away_o where_o we_o shall_v never_o find_v he_o if_o he_o can_v do_v it_o more_o gross_o than_o he_o attempt_v to_o do_v it_o more_o close_o nom._n but_o sir_n i_o be_o persuade_v that_o many_o man_n that_o be_v so_o religious_o exercise_v and_o do_v perform_v such_o duty_n as_o you_o have_v mention_v do_v find_v true_a rest_n for_o their_o soul_n in_o god_n evan._n ineeed_o i_o be_o persuade_v there_o be_v some_o man_n that_o be_v careful_a to_o perform_v such_o duty_n in_o obedience_n to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n as_o conceive_v they_o to_o be_v the_o way_n wherein_o he_o be_v accustom_v to_o meet_v his_o people_n and_o give_v they_o a_o extraordinary_a visit_n as_o also_o conceive_v they_o to_o be_v the_o mean_n whereby_o he_o do_v ordinary_o beget_v and_o increase_v faith_n whereby_o they_o be_v enable_v to_o draw_v near_o to_o god_n in_o christ_n and_o so_o to_o have_v peace_n and_o rest_n in_o he_o and_o therefore_o if_o they_o do_v omit_v any_o of_o these_o duty_n when_o they_o conceive_v that_o god_n call_v they_o thereunto_o they_o be_v trouble_v in_o their_o mind_n and_o vex_v at_o themselves_o for_o be_v disobedient_a to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n and_o for_o miss_v his_o kind_a visit_n and_o omit_v the_o mean_n of_o increase_v their_o faith_n now_o such_o man_n as_o these_o may_v and_o doubtless_o do_v find_v true_a rest_n to_o their_o soul_n in_o god_n in_o the_o performance_n of_o religious_a exercise_n but_o alas_o i_o fear_v i_o that_o the_o most_o part_n of_o such_o man_n as_o be_v so_o religious_o exercise_v and_o be_v of_o such_o disposition_n as_o i_o have_v show_v do_v rather_o conceive_v that_o as_o they_o have_v offend_v and_o displease_v god_n by_o their_o former_a disobedience_n so_o they_o must_v pacify_v and_o please_v he_o by_o their_o future_a obedience_n and_o therefore_o they_o be_v careful_a to_o exercise_v themselves_o in_o this_o way_n of_o duty_n and_o that_o way_n of_o worship_n and_o all_o to_o that_o end_n yea_o and_o they_o conceive_v that_o they_o have_v corrupt_v defile_v and_o pollute_a themselves_o by_o their_o fall_n into_o sin_n they_o must_v also_o purge_v cleanse_v and_o purify_v themselves_o by_o rise_v out_o of_o sin_n and_o walk_v in_o new_a obedience_n and_o so_o all_o the_o good_a they_o do_v and_o all_o the_o evil_a they_o eschew_v be_v to_o pacify_v god_n and_o appease_v their_o own_o conscience_n and_o if_o they_o seek_v rest_n to_o their_o soul_n this_o way_n why_o it_o be_v the_o way_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n where_o they_o shall_v never_o be_v able_a to_o reach_v god_n nay_o it_o be_v the_o way_n to_o come_v to_o god_n out_o of_o christ_n
