take_v his_o direction_n how_o to_o demean_v themselves_o towards_o his_o law_n which_o be_v so_o holy_a just_a and_o good_a to_o which_o purpose_n it_o shall_v not_o be_v amiss_o to_o lay_v these_o ground_n in_o our_o conscience_n and_o order_n ourselves_o by_o they_o first_o that_o in_o the_o liberty_n from_o the_o law_n consist_v the_o chief_a stay_n and_o comfort_n of_o a_o christian_a because_o be_v now_o free_v from_o the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n from_o the_o curse_n of_o sin_n and_o from_o exaction_n of_o a_o inherent_a and_o personal_a righteousness_n to_o justification_n he_o may_v now_o without_o respect_n of_o his_o own_o obedience_n and_o without_o regard_n of_o any_o righteousness_n of_o his_o own_o rely_v upon_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n and_o merit_n of_o christ_n and_o challenge_v his_o righteousness_n before_o god_n with_o the_o the_o apostle_n phil_n 3_o 9_o second_o that_o upon_o this_o liberty_n of_o justification_n wherein_o be_v no_o respect_n at_o all_o of_o our_o personal_a obedience_n issue_v another_o liberty_n of_o sanctification_n which_o be_v a_o freedom_n from_o the_o bondage_n and_o stain_n of_o sin_n not_o whole_o and_o at_o once_o as_o be_v our_o justification_n but_o in_o part_n and_o degree_n and_o here_o although_o the_o obedience_n of_o the_o law_n be_v quite_o shut_v out_o of_o our_o justification_n yet_o it_o be_v require_v unto_o sanctification_n and_o we_o necessary_o bind_v unto_o it_o but_o not_o to_o be_v thereby_o justify_v see_v we_o must_v necessary_o be_v justify_v before_o we_o can_v be_v obedient_a three_o that_o the_o law_n be_v a_o eternal_a doctrine_n 89._o and_o abide_v for_o ever_o yea_o david_n say_v it_o endure_v for_o ever_o in_o heaven_n that_o be_v not_o only_o his_o decree_n appear_v stable_n by_o the_o government_n and_o perpetual_a law_n which_o he_o have_v set_v in_o the_o heaven_n and_o can_v be_v break_v but_o as_o saint_n basil_n expound_v it_o it_o abide_v inviolable_o observe_v by_o earth_n so_o perfect_a as_o they_o be_v loose_a from_o it_o have_v not_o christ_n do_v as_o much_o for_o they_o as_o for_o these_o four_o that_o the_o law_n of_o god_n be_v the_o rule_n of_o godly_a life_n 24_o in_o which_o regard_n holy_a david_n call_v it_o a_o counsellor_n and_o a_o direct_a unto_o good_a duty_n and_o therefore_o we_o must_v acknowledge_v the_o necessity_n of_o this_o part_n of_o the_o word_n the_o sun_n be_v not_o more_o necessary_a for_o the_o day_n nor_o the_o moon_n to_o govern_v the_o night_n 105._o nor_o a_o lantern_n or_o candle_n for_o a_o dark_a house_n than_o this_o part_n of_o the_o word_n so_o long_o as_o we_o be_v in_o the_o night_n of_o the_o world_n for_o without_o this_o light_n we_o grope_v in_o the_o dark_a nothing_o can_v be_v see_v no_o action_n can_v be_v well_o do_v nothing_o want_v can_v be_v find_v no_o crooked_a thing_n can_v be_v straighten_v no_o straight_a thing_n try_v nay_o all_o our_o way_n in_o which_o this_o light_n of_o god_n shine_v not_o be_v darkness_n and_o tend_v to_o utter_v darkness_n the_o pillar_n of_o the_o cloud_n and_o of_o fire_n be_v not_o more_o necessary_a to_o israel_n in_o the_o wilderness_n for_o their_o station_n or_o motion_n towards_o canaan_n than_o be_v this_o shine_a pillar_n of_o god_n law_n to_o guide_v we_o unto_o heaven_n and_o as_o it_o be_v their_o happiness_n that_o their_o pillar_n last_v they_o till_o they_o enter_v canaan_n and_o it_o have_v not_o be_v for_o their_o ease_n to_o have_v reject_v it_o in_o their_o way_n so_o ought_v we_o to_o esteem_v ourselves_o happy_a in_o the_o fruition_n of_o this_o holy_a doctrine_n and_o direction_n and_o on_o the_o contrary_a these_o libertine_n to_o be_v unhappy_a man_n who_o be_v in_o as_o dark_a as_o heavy_a and_o dangerous_a a_o way_n and_o wilderness_n put_v out_o their_o light_n and_o break_v to_o piece_n and_o cast_v away_o their_o lantern_n five_o be_v the_o rule_n of_o godly_a life_n we_o must_v square_v all_o our_o duty_n thereby_o even_o as_o a_o workman_n apply_v his_o rule_n to_o every_o part_n of_o his_o work_n and_o decline_v not_o to_o the_o right_a hand_n or_o to_o the_o left_a and_o holy_a wisdom_n require_v no_o less_o but_o that_o that_o shall_v be_v the_o square_n of_o all_o which_o must_v be_v the_o judge_n of_o all_o thing_n do_v in_o the_o flesh_n be_v it_o good_a or_o evil_n and_o hence_o be_v it_o that_o the_o lord_n write_v his_o law_n by_o his_o spirit_n in_o the_o spirit_n of_o the_o elect_a and_o imprint_v it_o in_o the_o fleshly_a table_n of_o their_o heart_n that_o all_o their_o motion_n action_n and_o affection_n shall_v be_v conformable_a unto_o it_o but_o how_o do_v these_o lawless_a man_n affirm_v the_o law_n to_o be_v whole_o abolish_v deny_v it_o to_o be_v write_v in_o their_o own_o heart_n and_o consequent_o that_o they_o want_v the_o spirit_n promise_v to_o be_v send_v into_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o elect_a for_o this_o purpose_n and_o that_o either_o themselves_o be_v none_o of_o the_o elect_a or_o that_o the_o spirit_n be_v want_v in_o his_o office_n which_o be_v a_o high_a blasphemy_n six_o that_o as_o the_o law_n be_v a_o reveiler_n of_o duty_n so_o it_o be_v a_o reveiler_n of_o sin_n too_o and_o discover_v the_o sinful_a defect_n of_o our_o best_a obedience_n and_o because_o by_o the_o law_n be_v the_o knowledge_n of_o sin_n therefore_o by_o the_o obedience_n and_o work_n of_o the_o law_n can_v no_o flesh_n be_v justify_v that_o same_o law_n that_o discover_v and_o condemn_v a_o traitor_n can_v acquit_v he_o and_o it_o be_v madness_n for_o he_o to_o expect_v life_n from_o that_o law_n which_o have_v sentence_v he_o with_o death_n shall_v frantic_a papist_n ever_o find_v life_n and_o righteousness_n by_o the_o work_n of_o that_o law_n which_o condemn_v that_o very_a fact_n and_o be_v not_o they_o next_o to_o frâ—nzy_n that_o after_o all_o this_o so_o open_a disclaim_v it_o will_v fasten_v upon_o we_o that_o because_o we_o teach_v the_o law_n we_o therefore_o teach_v justification_n by_o the_o law_n nay_o we_o be_v so_o far_o from_o consent_v to_o any_o such_o poison_a assertion_n that_o when_o the_o gospel_n promise_v salvation_n and_o eternal_a life_n to_o repentance_n and_o good_a work_n we_o deny_v they_o promise_v to_o these_o as_o performance_n of_o the_o law_n but_o only_o as_o they_o be_v fruit_n of_o lively_a faith_n by_o which_o the_o promise_n of_o eternal_a life_n be_v apprehend_v seven_o that_o the_o law_n be_v a_o constant_a reveiler_n of_o sin_n we_o must_v by_o the_o law_n be_v still_o draw_v near_o unto_o christ_n not_o only_o by_o the_o law_n to_o see_v our_o sin_n and_o in_o our_o sin_n our_o need_n of_o christ_n but_o we_o must_v see_v the_o law_n fulfil_v for_o we_o in_o christ_n else_o can_v we_o never_o look_v comfortable_o towards_o the_o law_n and_o because_o it_o revell_v sin_n not_o only_o before_o we_o come_v to_o christ_n to_o bring_v we_o first_o unto_o he_o but_o it_o
