duty_n keep_v thy_o thought_n of_o business_n from_o come_v to_o maturity_n and_o the_o thought_n of_o worldly_a thing_n keep_v thy_o prayer_n from_o do_v thou_o any_o good_a so_o that_o they_o spoil_v one_o another_o i_o mean_v of_o those_o wander_a thought_n that_o we_o let_v lie_v in_o our_o duty_n for_o those_o that_o be_v resist_v and_o remove_v and_o mourn_v for_o do_v somewhat_o hinder_v but_o not_o putrify_v the_o duty_n for_o as_o the_o wise_a man_n say_v that_o dead_a fly_n cause_v the_o ointment_n of_o the_o apothecary_n to_o send_v forth_o a_o stink_a savour_n if_o one_o take_v out_o a_o fly_n as_o soon_o as_o it_o be_v come_v into_o it_o so_o much_o of_o the_o ointment_n that_o stick_v about_o the_o fly_n be_v lose_v but_o the_o rest_n remain_v sweet_a and_o pure_a as_o it_o be_v before_o so_o wander_a thought_n spoil_v something_o of_o our_o prayer_n though_o they_o be_v resist_v and_o remove_v they_o make_v a_o little_a hole_n in_o our_o prayer_n by_o take_v shall_v know_v that_o if_o our_o thought_n be_v not_o employ_v upon_o spiritual_a thing_n when_o they_o may_v it_o be_v the_o worst_a idleness_n of_o all_o and_o very_o few_o worldly_a business_n there_o be_v that_o stand_v in_o need_n of_o the_o continual_a intention_n of_o our_o thought_n upon_o they_o for_o it_o be_v rather_o our_o love_n of_o the_o world_n that_o fix_v our_o thought_n upon_o worldly_a matter_n while_o we_o be_v employ_v about_o they_o then_o because_o they_o may_v not_o be_v do_v without_o half_a that_o intention_n of_o mind_n doubtless_o there_o

say_v to_o thyself_o that_o for_o the_o why_n and_o how_o be_v of_o god_n word_n and_o truth_n it_o be_v curiosity_n and_o pride_n to_o inquire_v of_o they_o except_o god_n do_v reveal_v they_o and_o we_o ought_v to_o mortify_v our_o desire_n of_o know_v they_o as_o that_o of_o our_o saviour_n take_v place_n in_o this_o case_n bless_v be_v they_o that_o believe_v and_o see_v not_o three_o think_v with_o thyself_o if_o thou_o can_v remember_v any_o other_o place_n or_o place_n that_o confirm_v the_o truth_n that_o thou_o doubt_v of_o four_o know_v that_o that_o which_o thou_o be_v main_o to_o inquire_v of_o be_v of_o the_o meaning_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n not_o of_o the_o truth_n of_o it_o for_o we_o be_v serious_o to_o consider_v whether_o such_o a_o place_n hold_v forth_o such_o a_o point_n not_o it_o appear_v to_o be_v the_o plain_a meaning_n of_o the_o text_n whether_o it_o be_v true_a or_o no_o if_o it_o be_v a_o thing_n that_o thou_o do_v not_o which_o thou_o shall_v do_v or_o do_v which_o thou_o shall_v not_o do_v then_o serious_o consider_v what_o be_v the_o reason_n and_o ground_n of_o thy_o disobedience_n and_o thou_o shall_v find_v they_o to_o be_v either_o the_o pleasure_n profit_n or_o honour_n of_o the_o world_n and_o say_v alas_o o_o my_o soul_n can_v we_o be_v so_o deceive_v as_o to_o be_v put_v off_o with_o vanity_n such_o as_o by_o experience_n we_o have_v know_v to_o be_v vanity_n and_o by_o faith_n much_o more_o shall_v we_o leave_v a_o heaven_n of_o joy_n the_o god_n of_o mercy_n shall_v we_o leave_v christ_n who_o have_v so_o love_v we_o that_o he_o leave_v all_o even_o the_o bosom_n of_o his_o father_n and_o empty_v himself_o of_o all_o his_o glory_n and_o fill_v himself_o with_o our_o misery_n shall_v we_o leave_v all_o these_o for_o these_o vanity_n which_o we_o must_v leave_v and_o will_v leave_v we_o consider_v the_o impediment_n that_o hinder_v thou_o from_o do_v thy_o duty_n consider_v the_o temptation_n and_o occasion_n of_o thy_o sin_n consider_v the_o mean_n and_o motive_n to_o avoid_v it_o remove_v the_o impediment_n avoid_v the_o occasion_n use_v the_o mean_n and_o think_v of_o the_o motive_n to_o do_v that_o which_o the_o lord_n command_v but_o thou_o must_v neither_o think_v to_o find_v out_o these_o nor_o to_o use_v the_o mean_n or_o avoid_v the_o occasion_n etc._n etc._n without_o implore_v humble_o and_o earnest_o the_o direction_n and_o assistance_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n to_o assist_v and_o direct_v thou_o in_o the_o premise_n for_o you_o must_v know_v that_o you_o must_v sure_a place_n that_o his_o word_n may_v not_o be_v a_o dry_a breast_n unto_o thou_o nor_o thou_o a_o barren_a wilderness_n unto_o it_o second_o thou_o be_v to_o bless_v god_n for_o any_o spiritual_a frame_n of_o heart_n that_o be_v either_o wrought_v or_o discover_v in_o thou_o by_o this_o exercise_n last_o choose_v some_o special_a truth_n or_o point_n in_o which_o thou_o be_v either_o most_o defective_a or_o wherein_o thou_o have_v find_v most_o relish_n which_o thou_o have_v most_o occasion_n to_o make_v use_n of_o that_o day_n and_o keep_v it_o by_o thou_o to_o think_v of_o and_o do_v as_o those_o that_o walk_v in_o a_o garden_n of_o fragrant_a flower_n if_o one_o may_v have_v leave_n general_o he_o take_v some_o along_o with_o he_o to_o smell_v to_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o day_n christian_n for_o be_v we_o not_o call_v christian_n from_o the_o very_a name_n and_o doubtless_o if_o we_o have_v not_o a_o right_a knowledge_n of_o christ_n we_o shall_v make_v up_o a_o christ_n to_o ourselves_o of_o our_o prayer_n and_o fast_n and_o alm_n and_o repentance_n and_o woe_n be_v to_o that_o soul_n that_o at_o the_o last_o day_n shall_v have_v nothing_o to_o trust_v to_o but_o his_o grace_n and_o duty_n which_o will_v accuse_v he_o in_o stead_n of_o plead_v his_o cause_n and_o two_o thing_n especial_o we_o shall_v endeavour_v to_o know_v of_o christ_n first_o the_o
