not_o be_v already_o produce_v by_o other_o and_o as_o large_o and_o strenuous_o manage_v as_o by_o himself_o and_o that_o too_o in_o the_o same_o manner_n it_o be_v no_o great_a prudence_n in_o a_o combatant_n to_o make_v use_n of_o the_o same_o weapon_n modes_n and_o art_n against_o his_o antagonist_n which_o have_v be_v frequent_o baffle_v defeat_v break_v and_o retort_v into_o his_o own_o bowel_n wherefore_o it_o be_v strange_a to_o i_o if_o any_o victory_n over_o any_o considerate_a studious_a person_n can_v be_v hope_v for_o by_o such_o a_o cast_n of_o the_o gauntlet_n 3._o but_o ecclesiastical_a and_o civil_a will_v follow_v his_o dictate_v or_o receive_v new_a light_n from_o his_o torch_n and_o acknowledge_v themselves_o to_o have_v be_v in_o gross_a error_n and_o in_o a_o sinful_a practice_n ever_o since_o and_o always_o before_o the_o reformation_n since_o they_o profess_v faith_n in_o the_o lord_n christ_n and_o that_o they_o shall_v alter_v all_o their_o act_n and_o statute_n all_o their_o canon_n and_o article_n in_o this_o particular_a and_o herein_o acknowledge_v he_o to_o be_v the_o infallible_a apostle_n
or_o at_o least_o the_o only_a happy_a doctor_n of_o this_o great_a part_n of_o the_o christian_a world_n no_o nor_o of_o the_o great_a or_o any_o considerable_a part_n thereof_o but_o only_o of_o a_o few_o here_o and_o there_o of_o unsettle_a scruplous_a superstitious_a mind_n no_o person_n can_v have_v a_o rational_a and_o probable_a prospect_n of_o a_o great_a return_n from_o such_o a_o adventure_n or_o crop_n from_o such_o a_o sow_v and_o so_o wise_o have_v judge_v that_o all_o his_o expectation_n will_v never_o quit_v his_o cost_n nor_o be_v worth_a his_o risk_n especial_o have_v no_o inclination_n to_o separate_v any_o day_n as_o holy_a to_o the_o holy_a god_n in_o a_o performance_n of_o holy_a duty_n will_v take_v advantage_n from_o hence_o to_o decry_v the_o strict_a observance_n of_o the_o lordsday_n and_o to_o fortify_v themselves_o in_o their_o idleness_n recreation_n worldliness_n and_o sinfulness_n thereon_o and_o withal_o slight_a and_o deride_v the_o seventh-day-sabbath_n as_o judaical_a fanatical_a and_o singular_a and_o so_o be_v take_v off_o from_o the_o first-day-sabbath_n they_o will_v acknowledge_v none_o but_o give_v that_o and_o all_o the_o follow_a day_n of_o the_o week_n to_o their_o interest_n and_o to_o their_o lust_n to_o earth_n and_o to_o hell_n and_o we_o have_v hear_v that_o this_o book_n have_v already_o produce_v this_o fearful_a effect_n in_o our_o city_n 2._o a_o offence_n and_o stumbling-block_n to_o sincere_a and_o affectionate_a saint_n who_o have_v their_o heart_n establish_v in_o grace_n and_o their_o head_n in_o the_o grand_a fundamental_o of_o faith_n and_o practice_n but_o be_v not_o acquaint_v with_o disputation_n about_o such_o remote_a thing_n as_o these_o and_o therefore_o have_v very_o tender_a conscience_n and_o dread_v to_o offend_v god_n and_o to_o approach_v unto_o any_o moral_a evil_n hear_v of_o such_o a_o piece_n as_o this_o from_o such_o a_o author_n so_o know_v to_o some_o of_o themselves_o their_o family_n and_o the_o humane_a society_n of_o which_o they_o be_v member_n upon_o the_o other_o in_o the_o work_n of_o their_o particular_a calling_n have_v be_v provocation_n and_o evil_n to_o be_v repent_v of_o for_o we_o know_v what_o aggravation_n scrupulous_a conscience_n and_o a_o tempt_a devil_n be_v apt_a to_o make_v of_o small_a thing_n and_o to_o live_v in_o perpetual_a fear_n and_o doubt_n in_o their_o continuance_n in_o attendance_n upon_o god_n ordinance_n on_o those_o day_n whereon_o they_o be_v only_o to_o be_v have_v in_o the_o most_o solemn_a author_n of_o a_o needless_a schism_n and_o separation_n and_o of_o inevitable_a feud_n rancour_n and_o mutual_a reproach_n and_o condemnation_n the_o observer_n of_o the_o lord_n day_n will_v decry_v and_o exclaim_v against_o the_o other_o as_o jew_n and_o proud_a schismatic_n and_o the_o keeper_n of_o the_o seven_o day_n will_v censure_v and_o condemn_v the_o other_o as_o wilful_a breaker_n of_o god_n express_a command_n and_o profane_a complier_n with_o the_o will_n and_o tradition_n of_o men._n and_o he_o that_o have_v not_o the_o gift_n of_o prophecy_n may_v easy_o foretell_v what_o sinful_a and_o dismal_a fruit_n will_v grow_v upon_o such_o a_o root_n of_o bitterness_n man_n shall_v be_v cautious_a how_o they_o disturb_v the_o peace_n of_o the_o church_n and_o rend_v our_o article_n of_o agreement_n and_o how_o unseasonable_a and_o inconvenient_a it_o be_v therefore_o to_o broach_v new_a opinion_n among_o they_o and_o to_o increase_v their_o division_n and_o animosity_n and_o so_o also_o give_v a_o advantange_n to_o their_o observer_n to_o increase_v their_o prejudices_fw-la and_o augment_v their_o accusation_n against_o they_o and_o their_o insulting_n over_o they_o as_o fickle_a inconstant_a and_o heady_a not_o know_v where_o to_o fix_v nor_o what_o to_o hold_v and_o practise_v now_o that_o they_o have_v forsake_v a_o universal_a and_o uninterrupted_a conformity_n unto_o they_o such_o a_o stout_a nonconformist_a to_o the_o church_n of_o england_n aught_o to_o have_v use_v all_o caution_n not_o to_o have_v give_v the_o least_o occasion_n of_o weaken_v or_o vilify_n his_o own_o party_n 6_o last_o all_o these_o thing_n lay_v together_o in_o the_o balance_n of_o a_o sound_a judgement_n will_v have_v inform_v he_o that_o no_o such_o thing_n it_o not_o about_o what_o proportion_n of_o time_n god_n shall_v have_v consecrate_a to_o his_o service_n for_o that_o be_v agree_v to_o be_v the_o seven_o but_o only_o what_o day_n of_o two_o of_o they_o must_v be_v that_o day_n of_o the_o week_n and_o therefore_o he_o that_o observe_v the_o firstday_n give_v and_o devote_v to_o god_n the_o seven_o part_n of_o his_o time_n as_o well_o and_o as_o much_o as_o he_o that_o do_v the_o seventh-day_n wherefore_o though_o the_o author_n integrity_n and_o intent_n may_v not_o be_v question_v yet_o certain_o his_o prudence_n in_o this_o work_n and_o not_o the_o seven_o in_o order_n or_o the_o last_o day_n of_o the_o week_n this_o we_o say_v be_v not_o express_o command_v therein_o and_o may_v be_v alter_v for_o another_o day_n of_o the_o seven_o upon_o very_o good_a and_o authentic_a reason_n and_o ground_n as_o it_o be_v from_o it_o to_o the_o first_o in_o this_o same_o page_n he_o return_v to_o our_o saviour_n confirmation_n of_o the_o decalogue_n from_o mat._n 5.17_o 19_o luke_n 16.17_o and_o then_o ask_v why_o those_o place_n confirm_v all_o the_o 10_o command_n and_o not_o the_o seventh-day-sabbath_n and_o tell_v we_o that_o he_o can_v assign_v no_o other_o reason_n for_o it_o but_o the_o marvellous_a corruption_n of_o our_o nature_n which_o incline_v we_o to_o be_v god_n etc._n etc._n when_o yet_o he_o know_v that_o they_o that_o be_v for_o the_o change_n of_o the_o seven_o into_o the_o first-day-sabbath_n have_v give_v he_o many_o reason_n and_o good_a scriptural_a ground_n and_o argument_n which_o do_v amount_v in_o their_o esteem_n to_o a_o divine_a authority_n for_o that_o change_n though_o they_o do_v not_o produce_v a_o express_a command_n for_o it_o as_o that_o which_o he_o seem_v to_o require_v in_o this_o paragraph_n yet_o what_o amount_v thereto_o but_o it_o seem_v all_o these_o be_v not_o reason_n to_o he_o be_v not_o so_o much_o as_o show_v of_o reason_n but_o the_o only_a reason_n be_v man_n corruption_n pride_n and_o rebellion_n whereas_o he_o can_v but_o know_v that_o many_o of_o those_o who_o in_o doctrine_n and_o practice_n admit_v of_o this_o change_n be_v as_o free_v from_o these_o vice_n and_o have_v as_o much_o mortify_v they_o as_o himself_o and_o be_v as_o eminent_a for_o holiness_n and_o humility_n and_o obedience_n to_o god_n as_o any_o sabbatarian_n can_v pretend_v to_o be_v and_o their_o earnestness_n for_o the_o first_o day_n do_v not_o spring_n from_o the_o looseness_n of_o other_o thereon_o nor_o main_o and_o chief_o from_o their_o education_n and_o custom_n but_o because_o they_o know_v it_o be_v not_o moral_a as_o other_o part_n and_o appendix_n of_o the_o ten_o commandment_n be_v not_o and_o therefore_o not_o confirm_v by_o christ_n in_o those_o expression_n with_o many_o other_o good_a and_o solid_a ground_n and_o here_o i_o shall_v ask_v he_o by_o way_n of_o requital_n if_o the_o seventh-day-sabbath_n be_v real_o and_o primary_o moral_a and_o by_o christ_n confirm_v as_o well_o as_o all_o the_o other_o command_v which_o be_v undeniable_o so_o whence_o come_v it_o to_o pass_v that_o in_o all_o his_o sermon_n and_o discourse_n that_o he_o make_v to_o the_o jew_n about_o the_o moral_a law_n he_o do_v not_o so_o much_o as_o ever_o mention_v the_o sabbath_n to_o his_o hearer_n either_o by_o way_n of_o recommendation_n of_o it_o to_o they_o or_o commend_v of_o they_o for_o their_o zeal_n for_o it_o and_o tthe_v strict_a observance_n of_o it_o nor_o yet_o command_v of_o its_o observance_n or_o teach_v they_o how_o they_o shall_v keep_v and_o sanctify_v it_o according_a to_o its_o first_o institution_n see_v it_o be_v clear_a that_o he_o in_o his_o discourse_n do_v particularize_v every_o other_o duty_n of_o the_o moral_a law_n and_o exhort_v and_o require_v obedience_n thereto_o in_o all_o his_o most_o copious_a and_o glorious_a sermon_n upon_o the_o mount_n where_o he_o explain_v in_o their_o condemn_v he_o and_o his_o disciple_n as_o profaner_n of_o the_o sabbath_n etc._n etc._n to_o expound_v the_o duty_n of_o the_o sabbath_n and_o to_o show_v they_o wherein_o the_o due_a religious_a and_o acceptable_a observance_n of_o the_o seventh-day-sabbath_n consist_v there_o be_v not_o the_o least_o word_n appertain_v hereunto_o utter_v by_o he_o only_o a_o vindication_n of_o his_o own_o and_o his_o disciple_n practice_n from_o a_o profanation_n thereof_o if_o i_o may_v judge_v at_o the_o reason_n i_o think_v they_o may_v be_v such_o as_o these_o 1_o because_o he_o know_v that_o it_o be_v not_o of_o the_o same_o nature_n with_o the_o other_o not_o moral_a as_o they_o nor_o necessary_a to_o be_v keep_v to_o salvation_n as_o they_o 2._o because_o he_o see_v the_o jew_n from_o his_o mouth_n that_o may_v have_v the_o least_o colour_n of_o confirm_v that_o sabbath-day_n 4._o because_o he_o design_v its_o speedy_a absolution_n as_o the_o seven_o day_n and_o its_o conversion_n into_o the_o first_o day_n 5._o because_o as_o place_n priesthood_n mode_n outward_a ceremony_n of_o divine_a worship_n which_o be_v before_o his_o come_n into_o the_o flesh_n be_v to_o be_v alter_v by_o his_o authority_n as_o king_n of_o the_o church_n so_o be_v time_n also_o the_o day_n on_o which_o those_o be_v chief_o and_o most_o slemn_o observe_v into_o another_o day_n wherein_o his_o own_o institution_n be_v to_o be_v chief_o and_o general_o practise_v by_o his_o church_n and_o for_o these_o and_o such_o like_a reason_n he_o do_v not_o only_o particular_o recommend_v and_o enjoin_v but_o do_v also_o speak_v and_o do_v as_o have_v be_v former_o hint_v and_o may_v be_v future_o evince_v such_o word_n and_o thing_n as_o have_v a_o doctrinal_a and_o practical_a tendency_n towards_o its_o expiration_n page_n 33._o he_o impute_v the_o observation_n of_o the_o first_o day_n but_o to_o a_o good_a intention_n which_o have_v be_v the_o cause_n of_o god_n and_o the_o pattern_n in_o the_o mount_n shall_v mean_v as_o one_o if_o not_o the_o chy_a of_o those_o particular_n the_o removal_n of_o the_o first-day-sabbath_n and_o the_o reversion_n of_o the_o seven_o day_n in_o lieu_n thereof_o when_o he_o know_v that_o all_o the_o divine_n and_o doctor_n that_o be_v orthodox_n and_o his_o adversary_n in_o this_o opinion_n prescribe_v the_o same_o rule_n for_o the_o reformation_n and_o call_v upon_o those_o in_o authority_n to_o subserviate_v all_o their_o own_o law_n ecclesiastical_a and_o civil_a to_o a_o observance_n of_o the_o law_n of_o the_o first_o day_n now_o name_v and_o the_o seven_o never_o after_o as_o the_o solemn_a dedicate_v day_n to_o their_o worship_n but_o because_o it_o be_v never_o so_o from_o that_o time_n but_o yet_o this_o be_v not_o all_o the_o condition_n upon_o which_o he_o will_v be_v so_o exceed_o kind_a to_o we_o as_o to_o grant_v the_o first_o day_n of_o the_o week_n to_o be_v sunday_n or_o our_o lord_n day_n but_o it_o must_v be_v buy_v with_o another_o information_n even_o on_o what_o part_n of_o the_o sunday_n it_o be_v that_o this_o assembly_n be_v and_o st._n paul_n associate_a in_o they_o no_o religious_a duty_n upon_o the_o morning_n of_o that_o day_n at_o all_o but_o as_o soon_o as_o ever_o the_o first_o daylight_n begin_v to_o dawn_n he_o betake_v himself_o to_o what_o be_v profane_a and_o travel_v which_o i_o think_v be_v a_o beg_n of_o the_o question_n and_o in_o a_o scriptural_a sense_n be_v to_o say_v that_o he_o perform_v no_o religious_a duty_n at_o all_o thereon_o for_o it_o be_v the_o light_n that_o god_n call_v day_n and_o the_o dakness_n he_o call_v night_n gen._n 1.5_o and_o so_o to_o contradict_v the_o express_a word_n of_o the_o text._n beside_o i_o that_o all_o the_o disciple_n shall_v come_v together_o to_o feast_n it_o with_o paul_n and_o that_o too_o in_o the_o night-season_n as_o he_o will_v fain_o have_v it_o they_o have_v house_n of_o their_o own_o to_o eat_v and_o drink_v in_o and_o they_o will_v doubtless_o rather_o choose_v to_o receive_v the_o consecrate_a bread_n from_o the_o apostle_n that_o day_n be_v the_o last_o he_o be_v honour_n by_o his_o authority_n then_o be_v a_o common_a day_n common_a work_n be_v proper_a for_o it_o which_o may_v seem_v to_o be_v the_o proper_a intention_n of_o this_o expression_n to_o the_o jew_n for_o when_o they_o blame_v he_o as_o a_o tolerator_n of_o the_o profanation_n of_o the_o sabbath_n by_o his_o disciple_n he_o take_v a_o double_a medium_fw-la to_o refute_v their_o slander_n
