the_o glory_n of_o god_n as_o it_o be_v with_o young_a tree_n in_o the_o transplant_n of_o they_o usual_o most_o of_o they_o wither_v and_o come_v to_o nothing_o so_o take_v a_o company_n of_o legal_a walker_n and_o go_v about_o to_o transplant_v they_o bring_v they_o from_o the_o law_n to_o the_o gospel_n and_o there_o be_v but_o few_o of_o they_o that_o will_v not_o miscarry_v and_o come_v to_o and_o when_o he_o have_v pray_v he_o will_v say_v to_o himself_o now_o devil_n do_v thy_o worst_a and_o all_o the_o day_n long_o will_v haunt_v the_o alehouse_n tavern_n and_o whore-house_n and_o come_v home_o again_o at_o night_n and_o go_v to_o pray_v take_v the_o generation_n of_o professor_n throughout_o the_o world_n and_o their_o religion_n be_v such_o a_o kind_n of_o religion_n as_o this_o man_n be_v though_o i_o will_v not_o say_v they_o be_v so_o profane_a as_o he_o every_o legal_a conscience_n be_v not_o so_o large_a yet_o usual_o they_o go_v on_o in_o a_o tract_n of_o duty_n they_o will_v serve_v god_n morning_n and_o evening_n and_o if_o this_o be_v do_v though_o the_o world_n and_o devil_n have_v their_o heart_n all_o the_o day_n beside_o yet_o they_o think_v all_o be_v well_o and_o that_o by_o their_o morning_n and_o evening_n prayer_n they_o make_v god_n amends_o for_o all_o their_o sin_n their_o pride_n their_o worldliness_n wantonness_n uncleanness_n all_o the_o day_n beside_o there_o be_v some_o papist_n they_o say_v that_o always_o carry_v a_o crucifix_n about_o with_o they_o and_o when_o they_o have_v be_v drink_v or_o unclean_a or_o blaspheme_v god_n etc._n etc._n their_o manner_n be_v to_o take_v their_o crucifix_n and_o kiss_n that_o and_o howl_v over_o it_o a_o while_n and_o when_o they_o have_v so_o do_v they_o will_v return_v to_o their_o sin_n again_o so_o there_o be_v many_o professor_n who_o though_o they_o have_v not_o their_o crucifix_n yet_o somewhat_o they_o have_v which_o serve_v they_o instead_o thereof_o which_o ordinary_o be_v some_o outward_a duty_n and_o when_o they_o have_v commit_v any_o sin_n they_o run_v to_o their_o duty_n and_o there_o lick_v themselves_o whole_a and_o have_v so_o do_v back_o from_o their_o duty_n to_o their_o sin_n again_o you_o therefore_o that_o be_v professor_n look_v to_o yourselves_o i_o say_v look_v to_o yourselves_o for_o as_o a_o godly_a man_n say_v there_o be_v many_o hundred_o professor_n which_o bear_v forth_o a_o broad_a profession_n and_o make_v a_o glorious_a show_n in_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o world_n who_o will_v be_v find_v to_o be_v son_n of_o ishmael_n at_o the_o whether_o it_o be_v legal_a or_o gospel-ground_n lest_o after_o you_o have_v travel_v many_o mile_n as_o you_o come_v heaven-ward_n you_o be_v find_v to_o be_v near_a hell_n then_o when_o you_o principle_n be_v a_o gospel-principle_n though_o the_o action_n be_v ever_o so_o poor_a weak_a and_o mean_v in_o itself_o and_o despicable_a in_o the_o eye_n of_o other_o yet_o the_o action_n be_v good_a and_o accept_v of_o god_n if_o the_o law_n be_v the_o principle_n though_o the_o action_n be_v ever_o so_o glorious_a yet_o it_o be_v flesh_n and_o abominable_a to_o god_n why_o do_v the_o apostle_n heb._n 11._o so_o high_o commend_v the_o work_n of_o the_o godly_a patriarch_n many_o of_o which_o for_o the_o outward_a act_n be_v poor_a and_o low_a and_o mean_v but_o because_o the_o principle_n whence_o they_o do_v flow_v be_v a_o gospel-principle_n they_o spring_v from_o faith_n the_o worthiness_n of_o the_o principle_n make_v the_o action_n though_o ever_o so_o poor_a and_o low_a in_o itself_o worthy_a and_o why_o be_v the_o howl_n of_o cain_n the_o tear_n of_o esau_n the_o humiliation_n of_o ahab_n the_o confession_n and_o repentance_n of_o judas_n so_o brand_v in_o scripture_n but_o because_o the_o principle_n whence_o they_o do_v flow_v be_v legal_a the_o principle_n be_v flesh_n though_o ever_o so_o shine_v and_o glorious_a otherwise_o to_o be_v filthy_a and_o abominable_a to_o god_n the_o apostle_n tell_v we_o rom._n 8._o those_o that_o be_v in_o the_o flesh_n can_v please_v god_n so_o let_v i_o say_v there_o be_v never_o a_o action_n which_o be_v a_o action_n of_o the_o flesh_n as_o every_o pure_a legal_a action_n be_v that_o either_o be_v or_o can_v be_v please_v to_o god_n yea_o the_o action_n of_o saint_n themselves_o have_v flesh_n in_o they_o will_v be_v abhor_v to_o god_n do_v not_o christ_n the_o high_a priest_n of_o the_o saint_n separate_v between_o the_o precious_a and_o the_o vile_a in_o their_o action_n and_o present_v only_o the_o before_o he_o be_v a_o pharisee_n and_o the_o pharisee_n use_v to_o make_v long_a prayer_n they_o make_v a_o trade_n of_o pray_v why_o because_o though_o he_o pray_v before_o yet_o so_o long_o as_o he_o be_v a_o pharisee_n and_o walk_v legal_o all_o his_o pray_n be_v but_o a_o little_a of_o the_o flesh_n and_o god_n will_v not_o own_v it_o by_o the_o name_n of_o pray_v but_o now_o when_o there_o be_v a_o beam_n of_o gospel-light_n dart_v into_o his_o soul_n and_o a_o little_a of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o his_o prayer_n god_n straightway_o own_v it_o behold_v he_o pray_v paul_n make_v many_o prayer_n before_o whilst_o he_o be_v a_o legalist_n and_o god_n will_v not_o own_o one_o of_o they_o and_o now_o he_o make_v but_o one_o with_o a_o little_a of_o the_o spirit_n and_o god_n straightway_o own_v that_o so_o there_o be_v many_o a_o man_n and_o woman_n that_o say_v over_o a_o prayer_n sometime_o and_o think_v god_n indebt_v to_o he_o when_o alas_o poor_a soul_n when_o the_o reckon_a day_n come_v wherein_o he_o expect_v his_o reward_n for_o his_o work_n he_o shall_v find_v to_o his_o woe_n that_o god_n will_v not_o own_o any_o of_o these_o his_o prayer_n but_o god_n will_v say_v to_o he_o as_o to_o those_o hypocritical_a faster_n the_o prophet_n speak_v of_o when_o you_o fast_v fast_v you_o at_o all_o to_o i_o even_o to_o i_o say_v the_o lord_n so_o will_v god_n say_v man_z woman_n thou_o have_v pray_v but_o do_v thou_o pray_v to_o i_o at_o all_o to_o i_o be_v not_o all_o thy_o prayer_n because_o thou_o be_v afraid_a of_o hell_n or_o because_o thy_o conscience_n whip_v thou_o to_o it_o or_o thou_o have_v a_o design_n hereby_o to_o get_v credit_n among_o thy_o friend_n and_o neighbour_n etc._n etc._n be_v this_o pray_n to_o i_o or_o will_v god_n that_o the_o way_n for_o a_o saint_n to_o be_v deliver_v from_o the_o error_n and_o evil_n of_o the_o time_n he_o live_v in_o be_v to_o have_v his_o heart_n as_o much_o as_o may_v be_v take_v up_o with_o and_o his_o spirit_n exercise_v about_o high_a and_o spiritual_a thing_n yet_o because_o our_o heart_n be_v so_o dull_a of_o hear_v that_o a_o great_a deal_n say_v move_v they_o but_o a_o little_a i_o shall_v therefore_o beside_o the_o doctrine_n lay_v some_o few_o other_o motive_n before_o you_o to_o stir_v up_o to_o this_o to_o have_v our_o heart_n more_o exercise_v in_o and_o take_v up_o with_o spiritual_a thing_n 1_o consider_v this_o be_v the_o way_n a_o special_a way_n to_o maintain_v peace_n in_o thy_o own_o soul_n be_v a_o man_n abode_n in_o the_o upper_a region_n of_o the_o air_n he_o shall_v neither_o be_v trouble_v with_o storm_n or_o clouding_n because_o he_o shall_v be_v above_o all_o so_o soul_n be_v thy_o heart_n and_o mind_n always_o take_v up_o with_o spiritual_a thing_n in_o a_o spiritual_a manner_n we_o shall_v be_v more_o free_a from_o storm_n within_o more_o free_a from_o the_o clouding_n of_o god_n face_n than_o now_o we_o be_v we_o shall_v have_v more_o inward_a calm_a and_o sunshine_n of_o god_n love_n in_o a_o day_n than_o now_o perhaps_o we_o have_v in_o a_o month_n 2_o this_o also_o be_v the_o way_n to_o end_v division_n among_o saint_n the_o way_n to_o cure_v a_o disease_n be_v to_o take_v away_o the_o cause_n what_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o division_n among_o saint_n but_o the_o not_o exercise_v of_o our_o heart_n about_o spiritual_a thing_n the_o root_n of_o our_o division_n be_v our_o carnality_n 1_o cor._n 3.3_o 4._o for_o you_o be_v yet_o carnal_a for_o whereas_o there_o be_v among_o you_o envy_v and_o strife_n and_o division_n be_v you_o not_o carnal_a and_o walk_v as_o man_n for_o while_o one_o say_v i_o be_o of_o paul_n and_o another_o i_o be_o of_o apollo_n be_v you_o not_o carnal_a when_o christian_n who_o shall_v be_v one_o divide_v themselves_o and_o make_v party_n one_o party_n set_v themselves_o might_n and_o main_a against_o the_o other_o it_o be_v a_o sign_n that_o they_o be_v carnal_a but_o now_o as_o saint_n come_v to_o be_v more_o spiritual_a and_o more_o take_v up_o with_o spiritual_a thing_n they_o come_v to_o see_v their_o own_o folly_n and_o childishness_n in_o these_o thing_n they_o come_v to_o look_v upon_o and_o have_v fellowship_n with_o saint_n as_o they_o be_v saint_n as_o they_o have_v the_o image_n of_o god_n upon_o they_o christ_n in_o they_o the_o spiritual_a christian_a love_n what_o god_n love_v and_o where_o god_n love_v now_o god_n love_v his_o own_o image_n in_o all_o and_o all_o as_o they_o have_v this_o image_n upon_o they_o thus_o the_o spiritual_a christian_a who_o be_v take_v up_o with_o spiritual_a thing_n love_n and_o have_v fellowship_n with_o saint_n as_o they_o be_v saint_n whoever_o they_o be_v which_o he_o see_v to_o be_v such_o if_o there_o be_v not_o some_o eminent_a blot_n either_o upon_o their_o conversation_n or_o judgement_n which_o after_o admonition_n remain_v so_o as_o that_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o the_o honour_n of_o the_o gospel_n call_v aloud_o for_o withdraw_a communion_n from_o they_o he_o dare_v not_o but_o to_o love_v they_o own_z they_o and_o have_v fellowship_n with_o they_o as_o god_n do_v and_o as_o he_o himself_o hereafter_o in_o heaven_n shall_v do_v now_o this_o exceed_o heal_v and_o make_v up_o breach_n among_o the_o saint_n 3_o the_o exercise_v of_o the_o heart_n about_o spiritual_a thing_n be_v the_o way_n to_o dis-enamour_a a_o man_n heart_n of_o the_o world_n the_o way_n to_o dis-enamour_a a_o man_n of_o a_o base_a and_o vulgar_a person_n be_v to_o have_v his_o heart_n enamour_v with_o a_o person_n of_o great_a worth_n and_o excellency_n so_o the_o way_n to_o dis-enamour_a our_o heart_n of_o low_a carnal_a and_o earthly_a thing_n be_v to_o have_v they_o enamour_v with_o high_a spiritual_a and_o heavenly_a thing_n paul_n say_v col._n 3.1_o if_o you_o be_v rise_v with_o christ_n seek_v thing_n above_o where_o christ_n sit_v at_o the_o right_a hand_n of_o god_n christ_n sit_v these_o to_o their_o duty_n whereas_o this_o heart_n that_o be_v take_v up_o with_o spiritual_a thing_n be_v ready_a for_o the_o duty_n when_o ever_o it_o call_v and_o as_o to_o a_o duty_n so_o also_o it_o do_v sweet_o dispose_v the_o heart_n in_o a_o duty_n it_o be_v say_v of_o mr._n bradford_n that_o he_o never_o come_v off_o from_o a_o duty_n without_o enjoy_v somewhat_o of_o god_n therein_o a_o spiritual_a heart_n enjoy_v more_o of_o god_n many_o time_n in_o one_o duty_n than_o another_o do_v in_o twenty_o and_o so_o after_o a_o duty_n a_o spiritual_a heart_n walk_v sweet_o and_o brave_o that_o the_o people_n of_o god_n in_o the_o day_n of_o the_o old_a testament_n be_v under_o a_o twofold_a covenant_n at_o the_o same_o time_n viz._n the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n make_v with_o abraham_n and_o a_o covenant_n of_o work_n give_v forth_o at_o mount_n sinai_n by_o the_o hand_n of_o moses_n to_o the_o nation_n of_o israel_n now_o be_v under_o both_o these_o covenant_n at_o once_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o a_o covenant_n of_o work_n both_o which_o have_v influence_n upon_o their_o spirit_n their_o action_n be_v oftentimes_o mix_v be_v neither_o pure_o gospel_n nor_o pure_o legal_a so_o much_o as_o they_o keep_v their_o eye_n upon_o the_o covenant_n of_o abraham_n so_o much_o they_o be_v of_o gospel_n spirit_n and_o their_o work_n be_v gospel_n work_n and_o on_o the_o contrary_a so_o much_o as_o the_o covenant_n of_o moses_n have_v command_v over_o they_o and_o do_v reach_v their_o spirit_n and_o conscience_n so_o much_o their_o spirit_n be_v legal_a and_o their_o act_n legal_a so_o that_o there_o do_v plain_o appear_v something_o of_o grace_n and_o legality_n in_o the_o spirit_n and_o act_n of_o most_o of_o the_o old_a testament_n saint_n and_o yet_o notwithstanding_o though_o there_o be_v somewhat_o of_o legality_n in_o their_o spirit_n and_o act_n by_o virtue_n of_o their_o be_v under_o the_o old_a covenant_n yet_o be_v not_o their_o act_n pure_o legal_a nor_o their_o walk_n a_o pure_a legal_a walk_n because_o they_o have_v in_o their_o walk_n and_o act_v respect_n too_o unto_o that_o other_o covenant_n make_v with_o abraham_n which_o be_v a_o covenant_n of_o grace_n now_o although_o this_o old_a covenant_n be_v abrogate_a upon_o the_o come_n of_o christ_n and_o be_v now_o of_o no_o long_o force_v to_o the_o saint_n in_o the_o new_a testament_n yet_o in_o regard_n this_o covenant_n be_v more_o natural_a to_o we_o than_o the_o other_o and_o also_o be_v once_o in_o be_v in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o old_a testament_n and_o the_o people_n of_o god_n in_o the_o new_a testament_n time_n follow_v too_o much_o the_o natural_a way_n and_o read_n of_o the_o old_a testament_n of_o such_o a_o kind_n of_o covenant_n that_o once_o new_a testament_n saint_n but_o of_o a_o old_a testament_n spirit_n use_v 1_o be_v it_o so_o that_o legal_a walk_n be_v walk_v after_o the_o flesh_n then_o this_o discover_v to_o we_o that_o there_o be_v abundance_n of_o rotten-hearted_a professor_n in_o the_o world_n how_o many_o person_n be_v there_o who_o walk_v after_o the_o flesh_n i_o mean_v who_o be_v pure_a legal_a walker_n shall_v we_o come_v to_o those_o who_o be_v professor_n the_o general_a bulk_n of_o professor_n who_o walk_v in_o a_o way_n of_o duty_n and_o search_v they_o narrow_o we_o shall_v find_v ten_o to_o one_o to_o be_v legal_a walker_n all_o their_o religion_n their_o duty_n their_o prayer_n tear_n repentance_n etc._n etc._n it_o spring_v from_o the_o law_n the_o law_n be_v principle_n and_o motive_n in_o their_o obedience_n the_o great_a and_o only_a wheel_n and_o engine_n that_o turn_v all_o and_o carry_v they_o to_o all_o that_o they_o do_v such_o a_o man_n pray_v in_o his_o family_n be_v a_o frequenter_a of_o sermon_n etc._n etc._n but_o why_o alas_o he_o dare_v not_o do_v otherwise_o the_o law_n overrule_v he_o the_o law_n have_v get_v command_n in_o his_o conscience_n so_o that_o shall_v he_o not_o pray_v etc._n etc._n and_o do_v some_o good_a and_o avoid_v some_o evil_n he_o shall_v have_v no_o peace_n nor_o quiet_a within_o his_o conscience_n will_v be_v his_o tormentor_n and_o continual_o lash_v he_o and_o therefore_o he_o do_v these_o thing_n not_o out_o of_o any_o love_n to_o the_o thing_n he_o do_v no_o he_o hate_v they_o count_v they_o his_o burden_n and_o intolerable_a task_n and_o will_v glad_o can_v he_o find_v a_o way_n to_o avoid_v hell_n and_o get_v heaven_n without_o do_v of_o any_o of_o these_o thing_n throw_v off_o all_o but_o because_o he_o know_v no_o other_o be_v rich_a have_v its_o hand_n full_a or_o mercy_n and_o blessing_n but_o will_v give_v forth_o none_o but_o upon_o condition_n as_o there_o be_v nothing_o in_o the_o new_a covenant_n so_o great_a but_o that_o covenant_n give_v it_o forth_o free_o so_o there_o be_v nothing_o in_o the_o old_a covenant_n so_o small_a which_o it_o will_v part_v with_o or_o let_v go_v without_o the_o performance_n of_o some_o condition_n by_o he_o who_o will_v enjoy_v its_o gift_n this_o will_v better_o appear_v if_o we_o consider_v how_o that_o this_o old_a covenant_n have_v two_o great_a gift_n to_o bestow_v 1_o a_o gift_n of_o blessing_n which_o it_o give_v forth_o upon_o condition_n of_o exact_a and_o perfect_a obedience_n to_o all_o those_o thing_n that_o those_o under_o the_o same_o do_v by_o virtue_n either_o of_o moral_a or_o judicial_a precept_n stand_v oblige_v to_o perform_v 2_o a_o gift_n of_o grace_n by_o which_o in_o case_n their_o blessing_n through_o disobedience_n either_o to_o any_o
