herein_o be_v no_o more_o but_o of_o a_o crier_n or_o preacher_n as_o our_o divine_n urge_v against_o the_o papist_n in_o point_n of_o the_o church_n authority_n to_o determine_v what_o book_n be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n to_o declare_v and_o pronounce_v and_o then_o consequent_o to_o use_v her_o authority_n over_o her_o member_n to_o urge_v they_o to_o the_o observation_n of_o it_o as_o much_o for_o all_o its_o member_n the_o consequence_n have_v be_v prove_v before_o at_o large_a in_o the_o former_a chapter_n that_o the_o continuance_n of_o the_o chief_a time_n must_v be_v so_o large_a as_o not_o only_o to_o allow_v but_o to_o necessitate_v before_o and_o after_o the_o public_a worship_n family_n worship_n also_o where_o it_o may_v be_v have_v and_o however_o to_o necessitate_v as_o public_a ministry_n unless_o the_o matter_n do_v very_o much_o suit_n with_o their_o present_a affection_n and_o so_o sink_v more_o than_o ordinary_o deep_a into_o they_o or_o that_o they_o special_o call_v themselves_o to_o a_o serious_a account_n the_o next_o free_a hour_n they_o have_v to_o settle_v it_o upon_o their_o mind_n and_o conscience_n by_o meditation_n and_o prayer_n and_o this_o they_o have_v often_o no_o leisure_n for_o on_o the_o week_n day_n till_o they_o have_v even_o forget_v the_o most_o of_o what_o they_o have_v hear_v but_o now_o in_o the_o continuance_n of_o a_o whole_a day_n they_o have_v not_o only_a leisure_n but_o in_o a_o manner_n a_o necessity_n of_o lay_v to_o heart_n what_o special_o they_o have_v learn_v in_o the_o public_a ministry_n for_o all_o worldly_a business_n discourse_n or_o even_a cogitation_n be_v then_o unseasonable_a and_o unlawful_a they_o have_v now_o no_o manner_n of_o excuse_n if_o they_o meditate_v not_o of_o what_o special_o may_v and_o do_v concern_v their_o conscience_n and_o of_o which_o they_o have_v be_v that_o day_n instruct_v and_o put_v in_o mind_n and_o if_o they_o live_v among_o any_o that_o regard_n god_n at_o of_o this_o position_n concern_v a_o day_n to_o be_v determine_v by_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n we_o distinguish_v natural_a ability_n from_o corruption_n for_o we_o take_v it_o for_o a_o most_o undeniable_a truth_n that_o corruption_n do_v not_o hinder_v the_o law_n of_o nature_n from_o command_v to_o the_o utmost_a of_o natural_a ability_n as_o long_o at_o least_o as_o it_o exceed_v not_o for_o religion_n be_v determine_v by_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n from_o ground_n and_o principle_n in_o nature_n which_o we_o have_v former_o make_v use_v of_o if_o it_o be_v sin_n against_o the_o argument_n yet_o they_o will_v certain_o admit_v one_o day_n in_o a_o man_n life_n we_o mean_v ordinary_a business_n will_v and_o for_o extraordinary_a necessity_n we_o grant_v as_o before_o reservation_n for_o they_o if_o they_o shall_v fall_v out_o when_o a_o man_n be_v upon_o that_o one_o day_n devotion_n therefore_o

any_o other_o business_n for_o if_o sleep_n be_v so_o necessary_a as_o it_o be_v ordinary_o to_o all_o man_n within_o that_o time_n which_o be_v a_o most_o formal_a interruption_n or_o break_v of_o the_o continuance_n of_o any_o business_n as_o that_o not_o one_o of_o a_o hundred_o perhaps_o do_v or_o can_v watch_v at_o any_o time_n a_o whole_a 24_o hour_n together_o then_o much_o less_o can_v natural_a rule_n even_o without_o art_n among_o all_o man_n all_o the_o world_n over_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n do_v determine_v even_o conclusive_o the_o frequency_n of_o every_o day_n that_o be_v so_o often_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n do_v require_v for_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n from_o all_o man_n by_o way_n of_o command_n but_o no_o often_o though_o not_o forbid_v often_o but_o only_o seldome_a because_o nature_n seem_v to_o have_v no_o frequenter_a distinct_a revolution_n than_o a_o day_n and_o that_o it_o have_v and_o be_v able_a to_o observe_v and_o take_v notice_n of_o and_z according_o be_v able_a to_o worship_n god_n even_o solemn_o so_o often_o there_o be_v no_o impediment_n imaginable_a why_o within_o the_o revolution_n of_o every_o day_n a_o man_n may_v not_o give_v god_n some_o solemn_a worship_n but_o we_o say_v though_o this_o seem_v a_o fair_a assertion_n and_o suitable_a to_o what_o we_o have_v before_o of_o the_o natural_a continuance_n of_o a_o day_n yet_o if_o we_o shall_v speak_v practical_o and_o ethical_o as_o we_o do_v partly_o before_o of_o the_o continuance_n we_o must_v deliver_v ourselves_o somewhat_o otherwise_o and_o indeed_o so_o we_o must_v also_o in_o a_o mere_a physical_a or_o astronomical_a consideration_n of_o the_o revolution_n of_o a_o day_n and_o 1._o least_o xxxii_o twice_o a_o day_n at_o least_o then_o in_o that_o consideration_n we_o say_v that_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n if_o it_o make_v any_o conclusive_a determination_n of_o the_o frequency_n of_o time_n for_o god_n worship_n it_o must_v be_v of_o twice_o every_o day_n because_o there_o be_v indeed_o a_o twofold_a revolution_n or_o frequency_n observable_a in_o every_o day_n naturally_n the_o beginning_n and_o the_o end_n in_o each_o of_o which_o it_o be_v undoubted_o possible_a to_o tender_v to_o god_n some_o worship_n and_o so_o it_o be_v practical_o a_o man_n first_o wake_v and_o his_o lie_v down_o to_o sleep_v be_v two_o distinct_a observable_a revolution_n appliable_a to_o god_n worship_n we_o do_v not_o now_o here_o speak_v of_o the_o quando_fw-la whether_o nature_n law_n do_v command_v to_o take_v the_o first_o time_n of_o wake_v and_o the_o last_o time_n before_o sleep_n for_o solemn_a worship_n that_o may_v be_v consider_v afterward_o but_o we_o say_v that_o these_o two_o be_v distinct_a and_o observable_a revolution_n of_o time_n in_o every_o day_n and_o so_o each_o of_o they_o afford_v a_o remarkable_a possibility_n of_o worship_v god_n the_o law_n of_o nature_n upon_o the_o former_a ground_n of_o god_n be_v our_o happiness_n and_o the_o sovereign_a lord_n of_o all_o our_o time_n can_v but_o determine_v both_o those_o time_n to_o make_v a_o conclusive_a determination_n of_o the_o frequency_n if_o any_o such_o may_v be_v make_v or_o at_o least_o a_o initial_a determination_n that_o be_v so_o often_o at_o least_o as_o twice_o in_o every_o day_n once_o in_o the_o morning_n and_o once_o towards_o night_n the_o law_n of_o nature_n do_v determine_v for_o solemn_a worship_n to_o every_o man_n this_o we_o mean_v of_o such_o day_n as_o we_o call_v work_v day_n out_o of_o which_o nature_n law_n determine_v twice_o every_o such_o day_n to_o tender_v some_o solemn_a worship_n to_o god_n as_o well_o as_o it_o do_v the_o whole_a of_o one_o day_n in_o a_o man_n life_n as_o we_o discourse_v before_o of_o which_o day_n or_o any_o such_o day_n we_o speak_v not_o in_o this_o argument_n because_o though_o the_o particular_a duty_n be_v divers_a on_o such_o a_o day_n and_o some_o to_o be_v repeat_v twice_o or_o often_o as_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n do_v determine_v a_o double_a frequency_n of_o religious_a service_n every_o such_o day_n of_o every_o man_n life_n only_o we_o say_v not_o that_o any_o continuance_n be_v strict_o determine_v with_o this_o frequency_n that_o so_o long_a a_o man_n must_v continue_v at_o his_o devotion_n twice_o every_o day_n but_o that_o so_o oft_o at_o least_o for_o the_o frequency_n so_o oft_o some_o worship_n be_v against_o that_o acknowledgement_n and_o so_o a_o sin_n against_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n which_o also_o it_o be_v more_o than_o probable_a god_n mean_v to_o teach_v his_o people_n by_o the_o appointment_n of_o the_o daily_a morning_n and_o evening_n sacrifice_n and_o this_o frequency_n of_o twice_o every_o day_n for_o some_o solemn_a worship_n of_o god_n though_o it_o primary_o respect_n solitary_n worship_n worship_n xxxiv_o 1_o with_o respect_n to_o solitary_a worship_n which_o be_v as_o we_o say_v in_o a_o former_a chapter_n the_o most_o essential_o and_o proper_o morall-naturall_a solemn_a worship_n and_o perpetual_o necessary_a as_o be_v perpetual_o possible_a for_o even_o while_o a_o man_n be_v in_o the_o midst_n of_o a_o crowd_n it_o be_v possible_a for_o he_o to_o present_v to_o god_n such_o solitary_a and_o secret_a worship_n as_o we_o have_v describe_v to_o be_v solemn_a even_o the_o whole_a man_n be_v intent_n on_o no_o other_o thing_n for_o that_o while_n how_o short_a so_o ever_o the_o continuance_n prove_v so_o that_o we_o can_v possible_o conceive_v what_o can_v hinder_v a_o man_n and_o so_o what_o can_v excuse_v he_o from_o such_o tender_a of_o some_o solemn_a worship_n to_o god_n solitary_a and_o single_a by_o himself_o twice_o every_o day_n namely_o between_o morning_n and_o noon_n and_o between_o noon_n and_o his_o sleep_v at_o night_n yet_o withal_o worship_n 2._o as_o also_o to_o family_n worship_n we_o wish_v all_o those_o that_o have_v or_o may_v have_v company_n to_o join_v with_o they_o in_o family_n even_o dispute_v against_o by_o very_a many_o as_o no_o where_n command_v in_o scripture_n therefore_o we_o only_o propound_v it_o again_o to_o all_o conscience_n to_o weigh_v in_o sobriety_n what_o require_v for_o solitary_a worship_n and_o twice_o for_o family_n worship_n also_o we_o have_v already_o get_v to_o four_o time_n a_o day_n instead_o of_o twice_o we_o add_v yet_o further_o that_o we_o can_v absolute_o rest_v here_o for_o a_o certain_a definite_a and_o determinate_a number_n or_o frequency_n for_o if_o we_o speak_v still_o practical_o as_o we_o must_v in_o matter_n of_o our_o happiness_n and_o so_o to_o be_v infinite_o prefer_v before_o ourselves_o and_o all_o our_o worldly_a business_n will_v be_v constant_o call_v upon_o we_o in_o all_o those_o revolution_n of_o time_n to_o â—ender_v to_o he_o some_o worship_n how_o short_a soever_o and_o from_o this_o no_o consideration_n of_o god_n not_o only_a dispensation_n but_o command_v to_o employ_v ourselves_o in_o worldly_a calling_n and_o perform_v such_o worldly_a business_n as_o be_v necessary_a according_o can_v be_v pretend_v to_o be_v a_o sufficient_a discharge_n absolute_o and_o always_o for_o we_o have_v before_o prove_v in_o the_o chapter_n of_o solemn_a worship_n and_o it_o be_v not_o deny_v by_o any_o that_o we_o know_v that_o it_o be_v oftentimes_o a_o duty_n which_o we_o now_o say_v be_v some_o family_n duty_n prepare_v every_o one_o for_o the_o public_a and_o take_v they_o off_o from_o worldliness_n and_o secular_a cogitation_n and_o possess_v they_o with_o a_o awe_n of_o the_o duty_n they_o be_v go_v to_o perform_v more_o public_o 3._o no_o less_o but_o rather_o much_o more_o the_o improvement_n of_o the_o public_a worship_n necessary_o call_v for_o consequent_a family_n worship_n for_o memory_n and_o further_o affect_v of_o every_o one_o by_o repetition_n and_o prayer_n and_o conference_n every_o one_o have_v needs_o of_o this_o the_o best_a memory_n and_o the_o most_o zealous_a heart_n how_o much_o more_o the_o weak_a in_o both_o respect_n and_o if_o any_o be_v able_a and_o zealous_a it_o be_v so_o much_o the_o more_o a_o necessary_a duty_n in_o they_o to_o help_v other_o as_o much_o as_o may_v be_v this_o also_o we_o mean_v particular_o repetition_n will_v quicken_v the_o attention_n of_o all_o sort_n neither_o the_o servant_n nor_o yet_o the_o governor_n will_v afford_v themselves_o leisure_n to_o sleep_n or_o gaze_v or_o muse_v of_o other_o matter_n during_o the_o public_a worship_n if_o the_o one_o must_v give_v account_n and_o the_o nor_o slight_a or_o seem_v to_o slight_v the_o service_n of_o god_n and_o render_v it_o contemptible_a by_o appoint_v too_o little_a they_o seem_v to_o fancy_v that_o the_o proportion_n of_o one_o day_n of_o seven_o though_o by_o no_o mean_n necessary_a to_o be_v perpetuate_v may_v be_v a_o convenient_a direction_n that_o thereabouts_o it_o shall_v be_v among_o christian_n and_o according_o in_o the_o christian_a church_n ever_o one_o day_n in_o a_o week_n have_v be_v observe_v which_o with_o the_o addition_n of_o holy_a day_n more_o rare_o appoint_v they_o count_v a_o sufficient_a time_n for_o religion_n equal_a if_o not_o superior_a to_o the_o time_n that_o god_n have_v from_o the_o jew_n under_o the_o old_a testament_n now_o to_o this_o we_o have_v divers_a thing_n to_o say_v though_o we_o will_v not_o offer_v to_o follow_v their_o extravagancy_n in_o and_o out_o step_n by_o step_n in_o this_o dispute_n but_o only_o show_v somewhat_o the_o insufficiency_n and_o absurdity_n of_o this_o pretence_n absurd_a liii_o this_o be_v prove_v absurd_a we_o say_v then_o 1._o that_o for_o other_o holy_a day_n beside_o the_o weekly_a solemn_a day_n they_o come_v not_o proper_o into_o this_o dispute_n about_o the_o ordinary_a chief_a time_n for_o religion_n they_o be_v 1._o extraordinary_a day_n of_o which_o kind_n the_o jew_n also_o have_v some_o of_o god_n appoint_v and_o some_o of_o their_o own_o more_o than_o many_o christian_a church_n have_v though_o not_o so_o many_o as_o some_o other_o also_o 2._o these_o be_v take_v up_o without_o any_o such_o rule_n as_o may_v either_o urge_v the_o conscience_n to_o judge_v they_o necessary_a or_o conclude_v they_o together_o to_o be_v sufficient_a therefore_o 3._o also_o herein_o the_o christian_a church_n great_o differ_v which_o as_o we_o have_v argue_v before_o must_v not_o be_v in_o the_o proportion_n of_o the_o chief_a solemn_a time_n necessary_a and_o sufficient_a for_o all_o christian_n likewise_o 4._o no_o church_n reform_v that_o have_v retain_v holy_a day_n have_v speak_v full_o and_o clear_o about_o the_o continuance_n of_o they_o and_o how_o necessary_o they_o be_v to_o be_v observe_v to_o religion_n and_o employ_v whole_o in_o religious_a duty_n or_o not_o and_o so_o they_o come_v not_o proper_o into_o this_o dispute_n about_o the_o necessary_a chief_a time_n for_o religion_n 2._o adversary_n make_v to_o be_v now_o abrogate_a by_o christ_n that_o be_v both_o the_o number_n one_o day_n of_o seven_o and_o the_o continuance_n one_o whole_a day_n of_o both_o these_o we_o must_v the_o frequency_n for_o the_o number_n of_o one_o day_n in_o seven_o which_o be_v from_o christ_n time_n to_o this_o day_n observe_v and_o perpetuate_v among_o all_o christian_n by_o all_o confession_n some_o keep_v as_o be_v say_v more_o day_n but_o all_o keep_v the_o lord_n day_n the_o first_o day_n of_o the_o week_n and_o
be_v now_o no_o time_n necessary_a to_o religion_n and_o so_o in_o stead_n of_o answer_v our_o argument_n which_o proceed_v on_o that_o supposition_n they_o whole_o pervert_v the_o state_n of_o the_o question_n now_o between_o we_o 2._o that_o this_o assertion_n of_o they_o be_v express_o contradictory_n as_o we_o conceive_v to_o their_o own_o tenet_n so_o often_o set_v down_o in_o their_o book_n that_o some_o sufficient_a time_n a_o day_n or_o day_n to_o be_v observe_v and_o even_o determine_v for_o religion_n be_v morall-naturall_a that_o be_v necessary_a to_o religion_n for_o all_o man_n by_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n how_o they_o will_v reconcile_v these_o two_o let_v they_o consider_v till_o we_o have_v leisure_n to_o speak_v more_o of_o it_o in_o the_o promise_a place_n answer_v lxiv_o a_o question_n answer_v if_o any_o now_o ask_v what_o commandment_n we_o mean_v all_o this_o while_n within_o who_o general_a meaning_n this_o be_v which_o we_o have_v speak_v of_o we_o answer_v 1._o if_o we_o can_v not_o assign_v direct_o and_o certain_o the_o particular_a commandment_n yet_o will_v the_o thing_n upon_o the_o forego_n ground_n be_v no_o less_o certain_a there_o be_v divers_a other_o matter_n which_o be_v undoubted_o within_o the_o decalogue_n about_o which_o divine_n differ_v in_o what_o commandment_n they_o be_v as_o appear_v by_o compare_v the_o exposition_n observe_v as_o necessary_a to_o religion_n which_o god_n himself_o appoint_v and_o so_o though_o we_o prove_v as_o we_o doubt_v not_o but_o we_o shall_v in_o the_o next_o part_n that_o the_o word_n of_o the_o 4_o the_o commandment_n be_v only_o for_o one_o whole_a day_n in_o seven_o and_o not_o for_o the_o particular_a day_n of_o the_o seven_o last_o or_o first_o yet_o the_o particular_a day_n both_o of_o old_a the_o seven_o in_o order_n from_o the_o creation_n and_o now_o the_o first_o of_o the_o seven_o come_v within_o the_o compass_n of_o the_o four_o commandment_n within_o this_o general_a meaning_n because_o they_o be_v appoint_v by_o god_n though_o elsewhere_o and_o not_o in_o the_o formal_a word_n of_o the_o commandment_n and_o so_o also_o the_o other_o jewish_a festival_n appoint_v by_o god_n shall_v proper_o belong_v to_o the_o same_o four_o commandment_n fall_v under_o the_o general_a meaning_n mention_v and_o indeed_o they_o be_v usual_o by_o divine_n reduce_v thither_o who_o yet_o can_v no_o way_n defend_v their_o assign_v they_o to_o that_o predicament_n or_o place_n if_o this_o be_v not_o assign_v to_o be_v the_o general_a meaning_n of_o the_o four_o commandment_n 3._o yet_o if_o any_o will_v not_o admit_v this_o than_o we_o say_v we_o know_v not_o how_o they_o will_v be_v able_a to_o deny_v but_o that_o this_o be_v though_o not_o the_o whole_a yet_o a_o part_n of_o the_o general_a meaning_n of_o the_o second_o commandment_n which_o under_o the_o prohibition_n of_o worship_v god_n by_o a_o image_n and_o promise_v of_o a_o blessing_n to_o they_o that_o keep_v his_o commandment_n namely_o that_o worship_n he_o with_o that_o worship_n that_o he_o have_v command_v carry_v this_o general_a meaning_n certain_o that_o god_n shall_v be_v worship_v with_o those_o thing_n and_o action_n and_o those_o only_a which_o himself_o have_v appoint_v and_o so_o as_o under_o this_o all_o the_o ceremonial_a worship_n of_o old_a sacrifice_n and_o other_o rite_n and_o law_n belong_v to_o god_n worship_n and_o our_o two_o sacrament_n now_o be_v comprise_v and_o so_o the_o prohibition_n of_o all_o superstition_n and_o will-worship_n invent_v by_o man_n by_o the_o usual_a vote_n of_o divine_n and_o can_v indeed_o come_v proper_o under_o any_o other_o so_o the_o observation_n of_o any_o time_n as_o necessary_a to_o religion_n and_o god_n worship_n and_o of_o those_o time_n and_o those_o only_a as_o so_o necessary_a which_o god_n himself_o appoint_v must_v needs_o fall_v under_o the_o same_o general_n mean_v of_o the_o second_o commandment_n if_o it_o belong_v not_o peculiar_o to_o the_o four_o as_o be_v say_v before_o and_o perhaps_o how_o ever_o if_o a_o exact_a inquiry_n be_v make_v into_o the_o latitude_n of_o the_o commandment_n of_o the_o first_o table_n they_o will_v all_o be_v find_v in_o a_o subordination_n the_o latter_a more_o particular_a than_o the_o former_a and_o partly_o at_o least_o include_v in_o it_o undoubted_o the_o first_o conclude_v with_o in_o it_o the_o three_o latter_a even_o all_o the_o second_o table_n also_o and_o we_o think_v the_o second_o contain_v some_o part_n of_o the_o three_o and_o four_o also_o and_o again_o that_o the_o three_o do_v contain_v part_n of_o the_o four_o namely_o the_o manner_n of_o the_o observation_n of_o the_o holy_a time_n that_o it_o be_v not_o in_o vain_a etc._n etc._n but_o we_o leave_v this_o notion_n to_o the_o judicious_a reader_n consideration_n and_o maintain_v our_o argument_n sufficient_o without_o it_o whether_o the_o general_a law_n about_o time_n we_o be_v now_o scan_v be_v in_o the_o four_o or_o part_n of_o the_o second_o or_o even_o belong_v to_o the_o first_o as_o so_o much_o as_o be_v moral_a natural_a difinite_o concern_v time_n for_o religion_n we_o have_v former_o assert_v to_o be_v within_o the_o first_o commandment_n still_o as_o long_o as_o it_o be_v within_o the_o decalogue_n our_o cause_n be_v safe_a and_o if_o it_o be_v refer_v to_o the_o second_o commandment_n than_o we_o shall_v have_v gain_v this_o particular_a advantage_n certain_o and_o clear_o though_o we_o suppose_v we_o shall_v anon_o prove_v it_o will_v follow_v from_o any_o of_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o commandment_n of_o the_o first_o table_n within_o which_o it_o unquestionable_o come_v that_o then_o the_o necessary_a time_n of_o religion_n and_o god_n worship_n be_v not_o mere_o circumstance_n or_o adjunct_n of_o worship_n but_o propor_o part_n of_o worship_n and_o be_v to_o be_v observe_v as_o part_n of_o worship_n as_o all_o other_o specialty_n of_o the_o second_o commandment_n be_v but_o we_o must_v now_o proceed_v to_o another_o argument_n in_o our_o present_a business_n thus_o we_o frame_v it_o of_o lxv_o arg_n 2._o all_o time_n be_v god_n to_o dispose_v of_o if_o all_o time_n be_v god_n and_o none_o mens_fw-la own_o for_o worldly_a business_n but_o by_o god_n indulgence_n then_o the_o determination_n of_o the_o necessary_a sufficient_a chief_a solemn_a time_n for_o religion_n can_v belong_v to_o man_n but_o it_o be_v god_n own_o peculiar_a but_o all_o time_n be_v god_n and_o none_o mens_fw-la own_o for_o worldly_a business_n but_o by_o god_n indulgence_n ergo_fw-la the_o determination_n of_o the_o necessary_a sufficient_a chief_a solemn_a time_n for_o religion_n can_v belong_v to_o man_n but_o be_v god_n peculiar_a the_o antecedent_n can_v reasonable_o be_v deny_v by_o any_o conscience_n that_o acknowledge_v god_n the_o creator_n of_o all_o man_n and_o all_o time_n and_o so_o the_o undoubted_a and_o absolute_a sovereign_n and_o lord_n of_o all_o and_o that_o consider_v that_o even_o the_o most_o necessary_a worldly_a time_n as_o for_o sleep_v eat_a and_o the_o like_a be_v not_o otherwise_o we_o but_o by_o his_o indulgence_n grant_v indeed_o in_o nature_n ordinary_o and_o so_o manifest_v sufficient_o by_o the_o light_n of_o nature_n yet_o can_v it_o not_o be_v deny_v but_o even_o these_o time_n be_v still_o subject_a to_o his_o pleasure_n which_o may_v make_v exception_n against_o they_o as_o indeed_o he_o sundry_a time_n do_v enjoin_v man_n as_o we_o former_o note_v by_o his_o providence_n and_o by_o general_a rule_n of_o his_o word_n to_o watch_v whole_a night_n and_o day_n and_o to_o fast_o likewise_o in_o religious_a reference_n to_o he_o and_o their_o own_o and_o other_o soul_n to_o perform_v solemn_a and_o extraordinary_a duty_n of_o piety_n and_o charity_n and_o sometime_o even_o with_o respect_n to_o the_o bodily_a life_n and_o comfort_n of_o themselves_o or_o other_o moreover_o it_o can_v again_o be_v deny_v but_o if_o it_o please_v he_o he_o may_v command_v man_n altother_n to_o forbear_v their_o meat_n and_o wait_v upon_o he_o for_o a_o miraculous_a preservation_n like_o that_o of_o moses_n and_o elias_n and_o our_o bless_a saviour_n for_o whole_a forty_o day_n and_o forty_o night_n together_o and_o as_o it_o shall_v be_v with_o we_o all_o
therefore_o and_o be_v ever_o very_o necessary_a that_o god_n by_o his_o own_o law_n &_o word_n shall_v determine_v all_o and_o so_o without_o all_o doubt_n than_o he_o have_v and_o now_o it_o remain_v that_o we_o shall_v examine_v the_o argument_n or_o pretence_n for_o the_o church_n power_n to_o determine_v this_o chief_a time_n for_o religion_n in_o all_o the_o respect_n or_o in_o any_o but_o we_o can_v find_v none_o particular_a and_o proper_a to_o the_o matter_n in_o hand_n but_o only_o general_a presumption_n upon_o the_o supposition_n which_o they_o will_v needs_o suppose_v that_o god_n have_v make_v void_a all_o his_o own_o former_a determination_n and_o so_o leave_v in_o his_o word_n all_o time_n and_o day_n equal_a under_o the_o gospel_n as_o also_o that_o assertion_n come_v most_o frequent_o forth_o that_o time_n and_o place_n be_v equal_a circumstance_n in_o religion_n and_o so_o place_v be_v leave_v to_o the_o church_n determination_n time_n be_v so_o too_o in_o like_a sort_n all_o which_o we_o shall_v encounter_v more_o particular_o in_o their_o proper_a station_n and_o namely_o in_o the_o next_o chapter_n by_o way_n of_o corrollary_n to_o our_o whole_a discourse_n about_o religious_a time_n we_o shall_v endeavour_v to_o manifest_v distinct_o 1._o that_o all_o time_n and_o day_n be_v not_o equal_a in_o religion_n under_o the_o gospel_n 2._o that_o time_n and_o place_n be_v not_o equal_a circumstance_n in_o religion_n and_o therefore_o the_o leave_v of_o the_o one_o that_o be_v place_n to_o the_o church_n will_v infer_v nothing_o at_o all_o for_o the_o time_n to_o be_v so_o leave_v and_o then_o we_o shall_v conclude_v all_o our_o general_a discourse_n and_o first_o part_n with_o assert_v that_o this_o chief_a time_n thus_o determine_v by_o god_n be_v not_o a_o mere_a circumstance_n or_o adjunct_n of_o worship_n but_o a_o proper_a and_o essential_a part_n of_o it_o a_o part_n of_o religion_n to_o be_v observe_v with_o the_o same_o mind_n that_o any_o other_o part_n of_o religion_n be_v which_o will_v help_v we_o hope_v not_o a_o little_a to_o the_o conscionable_a and_o careful_a observation_n of_o it_o answer_v lxxxi_o a_o objection_n answer_v only_o one_o objection_n though_o of_o two_o branch_n we_o have_v meet_v with_o against_o the_o necessity_n of_o the_o determination_n to_o be_v make_v by_o god_n which_o we_o must_v give_v a_o particular_a satisfaction_n unto_o lest_o some_o reader_n shall_v yet_o stumble_v or_o be_v gravel_v at_o they_o but_o brief_o for_o many_o word_n will_v not_o now_o need_v thus_o it_o be_v say_v it_o seem_v to_o be_v necessary_a that_o god_n shall_v determine_v the_o sufficient_a time_n for_o his_o public_a worship_n even_o on_o the_o solemn_a day_n and_o again_o the_o sufficient_a time_n for_o family_n and_o solitary_a worship_n every_o day_n as_o well_o as_o the_o determination_n we_o have_v all_o this_o while_n be_v argue_v for_o and_o see_v it_o be_v clear_a he_o have_v not_o do_v those_o it_o may_v seem_v not_o necessary_a he_o shall_v do_v the_o other_o we_o answer_v 1._o suppose_v that_o god_n have_v determine_v the_o chief_a sol._n 1_o time_n of_o worship_n there_o be_v no_o such_o necessity_n that_o out_o of_o that_o he_o shall_v determine_v particular_o a_o proportion_n for_o the_o public_a worship_n for_o when_o man_n know_v they_o must_v spend_v the_o whole_a continuance_n of_o the_o time_n the_o whole_a day_n in_o religious_a worship_n either_o public_a or_o domestic_a or_o solitary_a the_o governor_n of_o the_o church_n may_v now_o be_v well_o enough_o trust_v to_o determine_v the_o hour_n for_o the_o public_a duty_n their_o wisdom_n unless_o in_o perverse_a spirit_n that_o will_v purposely_o shut_v out_o some_o of_o the_o ordinance_n of_o prayer_n or_o preach_v or_o the_o like_a or_o curtail_v they_o that_o man_n may_v be_v sure_a to_o have_v no_o benefit_n by_o the_o public_a will_v easy_o suffice_v to_o allot_v season_n of_o the_o year_n and_o the_o like_a without_o any_o remarkable_a prejudice_n to_o religion_n god_n honour_n and_o the_o good_a of_o man_n soul_n any_o where_o because_o still_o the_o residue_n of_o the_o day_n before_o and_o after_o the_o public_a remain_v devote_v to_o religion_n whereas_o there_o will_v be_v manifest_a and_o certain_a danger_n of_o prejudice_n to_o religion_n even_o the_o ruin_n of_o it_o as_o we_o have_v show_v if_o the_o whole_a of_o the_o chief_a time_n be_v leave_v to_o man_n discretion_n to_o any_o number_n of_o man_n whatsoever_o 2._o we_o say_v the_o like_a for_o the_o continuance_n of_o time_n for_o religion_n on_o sol_n 2_o the_o work_a day_n either_o in_o domestic_a or_o solitary_a worship_n that_o god_n have_v strict_o determine_v the_o chief_a time_n namely_o one_o whole_a day_n in_o a_o week_n according_a to_o the_o four_o commandment_n there_o be_v no_o such_o necessity_n that_o he_o shall_v determine_v beside_o the_o continuance_n of_o the_o weekday_n devotion_n he_o may_v have_v do_v these_o also_o we_o confess_v if_o it_o have_v so_o be_v his_o pleasure_n but_o we_o have_v intimate_v former_o fair_a reason_n which_o we_o may_v conceive_v why_o he_o will_v not_o namely_o 1._o his_o gracious_a indulgence_n to_o try_v man_n affection_n and_o zeal_n and_o spiritual_a wisdom_n in_o redeem_v of_o time_n ordinary_o and_o extraordinary_o on_o those_o weekday_n for_o their_o family_n and_o themselves_o to_o wait_v upon_o god_n and_o their_o soul_n with_o which_o they_o may_v be_v convenient_o trust_v if_o they_o conscionable_o observe_v the_o chief_a time_n the_o sabbath_n of_o god_n own_o peremptory_a determination_n special_o remember_v what_o we_o say_v a_o while_n ago_o of_o the_o blessing_n make_v over_o to_o such_o that_o they_o shall_v thereby_o come_v to_o delight_v more_o and_o more_o in_o the_o lord_n and_o such_o than_o will_v not_o be_v want_v to_o god_n and_o their_o soul_n or_o other_o soul_n even_o on_o the_o weekday_n when_o they_o convenient_o can_v redeem_v any_o time_n 2._o as_o also_o to_o make_v evil_a man_n the_o more_o inexcusable_a who_o be_v not_o tie_v so_o strict_o on_o the_o weekday_n will_v yet_o rob_v god_n and_o their_o soul_n and_o the_o soul_n of_o other_o under_o they_o of_o the_o time_n of_o the_o sabbath_n the_o time_n that_o god_n himself_o have_v make_v to_o be_v the_o necessary_a and_o ordinary_o sufficient_a chief_a time_n for_o religion_n to_o all_o man_n such_o we_o say_v will_v never_o have_v obey_v any_o determination_n on_o the_o weekday_n for_o any_o continuance_n if_o they_o shall_v have_v be_v tie_v to_o that_o also_o which_o think_v the_o sabbath_n one_o day_n in_o seven_o so_o intolerable_a a_o burden_n now_o that_o they_o be_v so_o much_o at_o liberty_n on_o the_o other_o day_n for_o also_o such_o on_o the_o weekday_n do_v scarce_o give_v god_n any_o time_n at_o all_o many_z or_o most_o of_o they_o with_o their_o family_n or_o alone_o therefore_o we_o say_v we_o can_v see_v reason_n why_o god_n be_v please_v not_o to_o tie_v man_n in_o all_o the_o parcel_n of_o time_n when_o yet_o he_o will_v and_o have_v in_o some_o in_o the_o chief_a and_o like_v unto_o this_o he_o have_v do_v at_o least_o in_o the_o opinion_n of_o all_o or_o most_o of_o our_o english_a adversary_n in_o another_o point_n namely_o in_o matter_n of_o our_o good_n all_o our_o estate_n and_o good_n be_v he_o as_o well_o as_o our_o time_n therefore_o out_o of_o they_o out_o of_o the_o increase_n of_o corn_n and_o cattle_n and_o the_o like_a he_o have_v by_o a_o express_a determination_n challenge_v to_o himself_o a_o portion_n by_o way_n of_o tribute_n or_o homage_n namely_o the_o tithe_n the_o ten_o part_n it_o be_v
