god_n he_o be_v we_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o meditate_v of_o god_n n_o his_o attribute_n and_o then_o meditate_v of_o the_o weight_n of_o our_o duty_n and_o the_o nature_n of_o they_o and_o the_o rule_n of_o they_o and_o the_o end_n of_o they_o get_v your_o heart_n possess_v with_o meditation_n of_o this_o nature_n and_o in_o this_o as_o a_o special_a thing_n do_v consist_v your_o preparation_n to_o holy_a duty_n and_o that_o be_v the_o first_o thing_n 2_o the_o second_o thing_n wherein_o the_o preparation_n to_o a_o duty_n consist_v it_o be_v in_o this_o in_o the_o take_n god_n now_o i_o must_v labour_v to_o separate_v my_o heart_n from_o a_o common_a use_n at_o other_o time_n god_n give_v i_o liberty_n to_o let_v out_o my_o heart_n to_o common_a use_n but_o now_o when_o i_o come_v to_o worship_v he_o i_o must_v separate_v my_o heart_n from_o all_o common_a use_n that_o my_o heart_n may_v be_v whole_o for_o god_n i_o remember_v it_o be_v say_v in_o the_o profession_n a_o long_a time_n but_o yet_o have_v not_o have_v the_o weight_n of_o this_o duty_n upon_o your_o spirit_n now_o be_v careful_a for_o a_o while_n to_o prepare_v for_o every_o duty_n of_o god_n worship_n that_o god_n call_v you_o to_o and_o i_o say_v within_o a_o little_a time_n thou_o may_v bring_v thy_o heart_n into_o such_o a_o temper_n as_o thou_o may_v be_v ready_a at_o all_o time_n to_o perform_v holy_a duty_n because_o you_o shall_v be_v able_a to_o come_v to_o that_o temper_n and_o frame_v that_o the_o apostle_n exhort_v to_o pray_v continual_o for_o indeed_o so_o it_o first_o those_o that_o first_o set_v upon_o the_o duty_n of_o religion_n young_a beginner_n that_o begin_v at_o first_o to_o set_v their_o face_n towards_o heaven_n to_o worship_n god_n they_o have_v need_n look_v to_o their_o heart_n they_o shall_v spend_v some_o time_n in_o preparation_n when_o they_o come_v to_o holy_a duty_n and_o the_o truth_n be_v when_o the_o conscience_n of_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n be_v at_o first_o enlighten_v and_o awaken_v they_o will_v be_v very_o careful_a in_o prepare_v to_o holy_a duty_n the_o fear_n of_o god_n it_o be_v mighty_a upon_o their_o spirit_n at_o they_o find_v their_o heart_n to_o be_v in_o at_o this_o time_n now_o if_o it_o be_v so_o with_o thou_o it_o be_v a_o good_a sign_n that_o thy_o heart_n may_v be_v upright_o with_o god_n though_o never_o help_v to_o further_a preparation_n but_o will_v make_v the_o soul_n more_o unfit_a for_o duty_n it_o be_v a_o excellent_a speech_n that_o i_o read_v that_o luther_n have_v concern_v himself_o i_o have_v learn_v this_o by_o experience_n that_o the_o often_o i_o do_v omit_v duty_n the_o often_o do_v i_o make_v myself_o the_o more_o unfit_a for_o duty_n and_o cause_n i_o have_v to_o abhor_v myself_o it_o be_v not_o the_o defer_v that_o make_v thou_o the_o more_o fit_a 2_o therefore_o consider_v that_o this_o be_v but_o a_o temptation_n and_o that_o be_v the_o second_o thing_n that_o i_o will_v propound_v to_o those_o that_o shall_v omit_v a_o duty_n because_o they_o be_v not_o prepare_v that_o this_o be_v but_o a_o temptation_n to_o keep_v thou_o from_o it_o to_o tell_v thou_o that_o thou_o be_v not_o prepare_v and_o if_o thou_o shall_v forbear_v it_o because_o thou_o be_v not_o prepare_v in_o this_o thing_n thou_o do_v gratify_v the_o devil_n and_o the_o devil_n have_v what_o a_o little_a converse_n with_o god_n at_o first_o when_o god_n begin_v to_o acquaint_v my_o soul_n with_o his_o way_n but_o through_o his_o mercy_n now_o i_o find_v more_o communion_n with_o he_o and_o so_o thou_o can_v bless_v thyself_o in_o god_n in_o that_o converse_n that_o thou_o have_v in_o communion_n with_o he_o thou_o will_v not_o lose_v that_o communion_n thou_o have_v with_o god_n in_o holy_a duty_n for_o all_o the_o world_n other_o have_v their_o companion_n that_o they_o have_v their_o communion_n withal_o much_o good_a may_v do_v they_o but_o the_o lord_n have_v show_v i_o another_o manner_n of_o communion_n which_o my_o soul_n can_v have_v with_o himself_o in_o which_o it_o have_v sweet_a satisfaction_n and_o thus_o you_o have_v have_v seven_o particular_n for_o the_o gracious_a heart_n be_v in_o the_o way_n of_o god_n worship_n it_o find_v the_o very_a duty_n of_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n to_o be_v strength_n to_o it_o and_o so_o it_o fit_v it_o for_o another_o duty_n 5_o further_n a_o natural_a conscience_n limit_n its_o self_n and_o be_v bound_v that_o be_v so_o much_o as_o will_v serve_v the_o turn_n for_o it_o be_v own_o peace_n and_o quiet_a so_o much_o it_o will_v do_v and_o no_o more_o but_o when_o one_o be_v act_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n one_o be_v enlarge_v without_o any_o limit_n at_o all_o not_o bound_v to_o one_o own_o peace_n for_o the_o more_o peace_n a_o gracious_a heart_n have_v in_o duty_n the_o more_o it_o be_v enlarge_v in_o duty_n now_o a_o natural_a conscience_n that_o put_v to_o duty_n and_o will_v act_v you_o when_o you_o want_v peace_n when_o you_o be_v in_o trouble_n and_o fear_n but_o when_o you_o be_v not_o in_o trouble_n and_o fear_n than_o it_o put_v not_o on_o the_o heart_n to_o performance_n of_o duty_n but_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n put_v on_o the_o soul_n to_o duty_n when_o there_o be_v most_o peace_n and_o comfort_n 6_o a_o little_a will_v serve_v the_o turn_n to_o satisfy_v a_o natural_a conscience_n so_o be_v it_o they_o perform_v the_o duty_n it_o be_v enough_o but_o one_o that_o be_v act_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o duty_n must_v meet_v with_o much_o of_o god_n or_o else_o there_o be_v much_o difference_n between_o the_o act_n of_o natural_a part_n and_o conscience_n in_o duty_n and_o the_o act_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n there_o be_v only_o now_o two_o thing_n more_o for_o the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_n in_o duty_n and_o then_o we_o be_v to_o come_v to_o show_v how_o we_o shall_v sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o duty_n in_o reference_n to_o the_o several_a attribute_n of_o god_n but_o first_o for_o those_o two_o head_n further_o 8_o the_o eight_o thing_n be_v this_o when_o you_o come_v to_o perform_v holy_a duty_n if_o you_o will_v sanctify_v god_n name_n you_o must_v consecrate_v yourselves_o to_o god_n there_o must_v be_v a_o resignation_n of_o soul_n and_o body_n estate_n liberty_n name_n and_o all_o you_o be_v have_v or_o can_v do_v unto_o be_v a_o very_a good_a thing_n actual_o to_o profess_v yourselves_o to_o be_v god_n to_o profess_v that_o you_o do_v give_v up_o all_o that_o you_o be_v have_v or_o can_v do_v to_o god_n lord_n i_o be_o thy_o servant_n take_v all_o faculty_n of_o soul_n and_o member_n of_o body_n and_o improve_v all_o lay_v out_o all_o to_o thy_o own_o praise_n to_o the_o uttermost_a to_o bring_v glory_n to_o thy_o great_a name_n if_o every_o time_n you_o come_v to_o god_n in_o prayer_n you_o do_v this_o this_o be_v to_o sanctify_v yourselves_o to_o god_n i_o speak_v before_o of_o a_o sanctify_a heart_n but_o now_o this_o be_v in_o a_o profession_n of_o yourselves_o to_o god_n do_v it_o secret_o at_o least_o in_o your_o own_o thought_n if_o you_o do_v not_o every_o time_n express_v it_o in_o word_n yet_o in_o your_o own_o thought_n do_v it_o devote_v yourselves_o to_o god_n every_o day_n of_o admirable_a use_n it_o will_v be_v if_o every_o day_n when_o man_n and_o woman_n worship_n god_n either_o in_o their_o closert_n or_o family_n they_o do_v profess_o devote_v and_o consecrate_v themselves_o to_o god_n and_o so_o likewise_o every_o time_n they_o come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n or_o to_o receive_v sacrament_n god_n will_v account_v his_o name_n to_o be_v sanctify_v in_o such_o a_o work_n as_o this_o be_v 9_o last_o that_o that_o must_v make_v all_o up_o and_o witout_a which_o all_o the_o other_o be_v nothing_o it_o be_v that_o you_o must_v tender_v up_o all_o your_o worship_n in_o the_o name_n of_o jesus_n christ_n let_v a_o man_n or_o woman_n worship_n god_n never_o so_o it_o the_o very_a joy_n of_o their_o life_n for_o the_o present_a to_o be_v worship_v of_o god_n but_o it_o be_v not_o so_o with_o they_o now_o as_o it_o be_v yea_o they_o be_v fall_v off_o it_o may_v be_v from_o their_o very_a profession_n of_o religion_n and_o turn_v loose_v and_o now_o to_o be_v in_o vain_a company_n to_o drink_v or_o play_v be_v better_a to_o they_o than_o any_o service_n or_o worship_n of_o god_n they_o prize_v more_o to_o be_v in_o company_n with_o their_o sport_n than_o to_o hear_v a_o sermon_n or_o to_o be_v in_o communion_n with_o the_o people_n of_o god_n in_o prayer_n heretofore_o they_o will_v not_o have_v change_v one_o short_a time_n of_o private_a communion_n with_o god_n for_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o pleasure_n and_o content_a in_o the_o world_n but_o now_o it_o be_v otherwise_o with_o they_o how_o come_v it_o to_o pass_v that_o these_o be_v apostatise_v thus_o from_o god_n sure_o here_o be_v the_o ground_n of_o it_o that_o soul_n and_o to_o make_v it_o fall_v off_o oh_o no_o as_o we_o say_v the_o last_o day_n there_o be_v not_o any_o one_o thing_n that_o have_v be_v open_v for_o the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_n in_o duty_n that_o any_o gracious_a heart_n can_v tell_v how_o to_o miss_v and_o the_o more_o we_o do_v sanctify_v his_o name_n the_o more_o we_o shall_v be_v in_o love_n with_o worship_n for_o it_o be_v from_o hence_o that_o those_o that_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o worship_n will_v hold_v out_o because_o they_o will_v find_v the_o sweetness_n of_o worship_n they_o will_v meet_v with_o god_n in_o holy_a duty_n and_o so_o they_o come_v to_o be_v encourage_v in_o worship_n but_o as_o for_o other_o who_o do_v worship_n god_n in_o a_o formal_a way_n their_o worship_n will_v prove_v to_o be_v tedious_a to_o they_o for_o they_o perform_v the_o duty_n but_o do_v not_o find_v god_n in_o the_o duty_n in_o that_o spiritual_a way_n as_o the_o saint_n do_v if_o they_o think_v they_o meet_v with_o god_n it_o be_v but_o a_o imagination_n rather_o than_o any_o real_a meeting_n with_o he_o they_o do_v not_o find_v the_o influence_n of_o god_n in_o their_o soul_n in_o holy_a duty_n so_o as_o those_o do_v that_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n here_o than_o you_o see_v the_o reason_n why_o we_o be_v to_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n now_o then_o for_o the_o application_n of_o all_o this_o 1_o if_o all_o this_o which_o you_o have_v hear_v be_v require_v of_o we_o for_o the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_n hence_o we_o see_v how_o little_a cause_n we_o have_v to_o rest_v upon_o any_o duty_n of_o worship_n that_o we_o do_v perform_v certain_o the_o duty_n of_o worship_n that_o we_o perform_v be_v no_o such_o thing_n as_o be_v fit_a to_o be_v rest_v upon_o for_o life_n and_o for_o salvation_n and_o yet_o for_o the_o most_o part_n there_o be_v scarce_o any_o thing_n that_o people_n have_v to_o rest_v upon_o or_o to_o tender_v up_o to_o god_n for_o acception_n to_o eternal_a life_n but_o only_o their_o prayer_n and_o their_o come_n to_o hear_v and_o receive_v of_o the_o communion_n and_o such_o duty_n that_o they_o perform_v this_o be_v all_o they_o have_v to_o tender_v up_o for_o life_n and_o for_o salvation_n perhaps_o they_o may_v sometime_o speak_v of_o christ_n but_o the_o truth_n be_v that_o which_o their_o heart_n rest_v upon_o for_o acceptation_n to_o eternal_a life_n be_v this_o and_o be_v it_o but_o this_o it_o be_v a_o weak_a prop_n a_o rot_a reed_n that_o thou_o have_v to_o rest_v upon_o let_v the_o duty_n of_o worship_n be_v perform_v never_o so_o well_o suppose_v we_o do_v sanctify_v god_n name_n to_o the_o uttermost_a that_o be_v possible_a for_o any_o creature_n to_o do_v in_o this_o world_n yet_o such_o duty_n be_v not_o to_o be_v rest_v upon_o abraham_n isaac_n and_o jacob_n and_o the_o apostle_n the_o most_o holy_a man_n that_o ever_o do_v perform_v duty_n in_o the_o most_o holy_a manner_n yet_o woe_n to_o they_o if_o they_o have_v nothing_o to_o rest_v upon_o but_o their_o duty_n consider_v therefore_o of_o this_o that_o what_o thou_o must_v rest_v upon_o for_o acceptation_n to_o eternal_a life_n it_o must_v be_v that_o that_o must_v have_v so_o much_o worth_n in_o it_o as_o must_v satisfy_v for_o all_o thy_o sin_n that_o former_o thou_o have_v commit_v yea_o and_o for_o all_o the_o sin_n that_o ever_o thou_o shall_v commit_v now_o i_o appeal_v unto_o any_o one_o conscience_n be_v that_o which_o thou_o perform_v as_o prayer_n or_o receive_v the_o sacrament_n or_o hear_v of_o the_o word_n such_o a_o work_n as_o in_o thy_o conscience_n thou_o can_v think_v it_o have_v so_o much_o worth_n in_o it_o as_o to_o satisfy_v god_n for_o all_o the_o sin_n that_o ever_o thou_o do_v or_o shall_v commit_v i_o be_o persuade_v if_o people_n that_o have_v rest_v upon_o duty_n heretofore_o will_v but_o serious_o have_v this_o thought_n in_o their_o mind_n that_o i_o must_v rest_v upon_o nothing_o for_o my_o acceptation_n for_o life_n and_o salvation_n but_o that_o that_o must_v have_v such_o worth_n in_o it_o as_o to_o satisfy_v god_n for_o all_o my_o sin_n that_o ever_o have_v be_v commit_v or_o shall_v be_v commit_v this_o will_v take_v they_o off_o for_o ever_o from_o rest_v in_o duty_n yea_o and_o it_o must_v be_v such_o as_o must_v be_v the_o object_n of_o the_o infinite_a holiness_n of_o god_n to_o take_v content_a in_o sure_o the_o duty_n that_o we_o perform_v be_v no_o such_o duty_n to_o rest_n upon_o the_o truth_n be_v if_o we_o will_v serious_o consider_v what_o they_o be_v as_o they_o come_v from_o we_o we_o will_v even_o abhor_v ourselves_o in_o dust_n and_o ash_n and_o account_v of_o they_o as_o the_o prophet_n speak_v of_o his_o own_o righteousness_n as_o menstruous_a clothes_n they_o be_v such_o as_o if_o god_n shall_v deal_v with_o we_o as_o just_o he_o may_v do_v he_o may_v cast_v they_o and_o we_o to_o the_o dog_n for_o they_o be_v as_o the_o prophet_n say_v tear_v and_o rend_v sacrifice_n now_o if_o a_o man_n in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o law_n shall_v bring_v to_o the_o lord_n a_o sacrifice_n that_o be_v all_o tear_v and_o perform_v be_v of_o themselves_o such_o as_o be_v tear_v by_o our_o beastly_a lust_n many_o time_n how_o many_o be_v there_o that_o bring_v sacrifice_n to_o god_n that_o be_v as_o a_o carrion_n that_o swine_n have_v be_v tear_v before_o hand_n and_o yet_o these_o be_v the_o sacrifice_n that_o they_o bring_v to_o god_n and_o not_o only_o think_v that_o god_n shall_v accept_v of_o they_o but_o they_o do_v rest_n upon_o they_o for_o their_o acceptation_n to_o eternal_a life_n
unto_o the_o point_n in_o the_o general_n the_o last_o day_n we_o finish_v it_o i_o do_v not_o intend_v to_o look_v back_o to_o any_o thing_n that_o be_v say_v but_o we_o be_v to_o proceed_v to_o show_v how_o the_o name_n of_o god_n shall_v be_v sanctify_v in_o the_o particular_a duty_n of_o his_o worship_n now_o the_o duty_n of_o god_n worship_n be_v especial_o these_o three_o 1_o the_o hear_v of_o the_o word_n 2_o receive_v of_o the_o sacrament_n 3_o and_o prayer_n other_o thing_n come_v under_o worship_n but_o yet_o these_o be_v the_o three_o chief_n duty_n of_o worship_n and_o i_o intend_v to_o speak_v to_o all_o these_o three_o and_o to_o show_v how_o we_o shall_v sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o draw_v nigh_o unto_o he_o in_o the_o word_n sacrament_n and_o prayer_n we_o may_v choose_v several_a text_n for_o all_o these_o but_o they_o fall_v full_a within_o the_o general_n and_o therefore_o it_o shall_v be_v sufficient_a for_o to_o ground_v the_o sanctify_a of_o of_o god_n name_n in_o these_o duty_n of_o worship_n upon_o this_o text_n 1_o of_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o the_o hear_n of_o the_o word_n that_o which_o we_o be_v to_o speak_v to_o this_o morning_n it_o be_v the_o sanctify_a of_o the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o the_o hear_n of_o his_o word_n if_o you_o will_v have_v the_o ground_n of_o what_o we_o be_v to_o say_v concern_v this_o in_o a_o particular_a scripture_n you_o may_v have_v it_o in_o luke_n 8.18_o take_v heed_n therefore_o how_o you_o hear_v it_o be_v not_o enough_o to_o come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n that_o be_v good_a and_o no_o question_n but_o god_n be_v please_v with_o the_o willingness_n of_o people_n to_o come_v to_o hear_v his_o word_n but_o you_o must_v not_o rest_v bare_o in_o hear_v but_o take_v heed_n how_o you_o hear_v now_o this_o be_v a_o point_n of_o great_a consequence_n and_o i_o hope_v it_o may_v do_v good_a to_o help_v to_o make_v many_o sermon_n to_o be_v profitable_a to_o you_o &_o the_o point_n i_o hope_n be_v seasonable_a and_o will_v be_v very_o suitable_a unto_o you_o for_o those_o that_o come_v to_o hear_v so_o soon_o in_o a_o morning_n and_o be_v willing_a even_o in_o hard_a weather_n to_o come_v out_o of_o their_o bed_n they_o give_v some_o good_a testimony_n that_o they_o do_v desire_n to_o honour_n god_n in_o their_o hear_n and_o to_o get_v good_a by_o their_o hear_n and_o it_o be_v pity_v that_o labour_n and_o pain_n shall_v be_v bestow_v and_o no_o profit_n but_o hurt_v rather_o get_v by_o it_o which_o god_n forbid_v therefore_o now_o i_o be_o to_o speak_v to_o a_o point_n that_o may_v help_v you_o so_o to_o hear_v as_o may_v recompense_v all_o your_o labour_n and_o pain_n in_o hear_v in_o preach_v to_o those_o that_o come_v to_o hear_v that_o so_o they_o may_v get_v good_a and_o benefit_n by_o it_o there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n more_o encouragement_n than_o to_o such_o as_o come_v in_o a_o formal_a way_n because_o they_o use_v to_o come_v therefore_o this_o point_n be_v a_o great_a point_n i_o shall_v open_v it_o somewhat_o large_o and_o shall_v cast_v it_o into_o this_o method_n first_o i_o shall_v show_v you_o that_o the_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o the_o hear_n of_o his_o word_n either_o in_o regard_n of_o preparation_n unto_o it_o or_o one_o behaviour_n in_o the_o hear_n of_o the_o word_n three_o why_o it_o be_v that_o god_n will_v be_v sanctify_v in_o this_o ordinance_n of_o he_o four_o how_o god_n will_v sanctify_v himself_o in_o such_o that_o do_v not_o sanctify_v his_o name_n in_o the_o hear_n of_o his_o word_n five_o how_o god_n will_v sanctify_v his_o name_n in_o way_n of_o mercy_n to_o those_o that_o be_v careful_a to_o sanctify_v his_o name_n in_o the_o hear_n of_o the_o word_n these_o be_v the_o five_o principal_a thing_n that_o concern_v this_o argument_n for_o the_o first_o that_o the_o hear_n of_o god_n word_n it_o be_v a_o part_n of_o god_n worship_n you_o hear_v in_o the_o open_n of_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n in_o the_o general_n what_o it_o be_v i_o tell_v you_o it_o be_v a_o tender_v up_o of_o the_o creature_n homage_n to_o god_n a_o testimony_n of_o the_o respect_n that_o the_o creature_n do_v owe_v to_o god_n now_o if_o that_o be_v the_o nature_n of_o worship_n certain_o the_o hear_n of_o god_n word_n it_o be_v a_o part_n of_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n for_o in_o in_o the_o mean_n itself_o this_o make_v it_o worship_n when_o i_o be_o bufy_v in_o natural_a and_o civil_a action_n there_o i_o must_v profess_v that_o these_o thing_n can_v do_v i_o no_o good_a without_o god_n but_o i_o do_v not_o wait_v upon_o god_n in_o a_o ordinance_n for_o the_o conveyance_n of_o natural_a good_a beyond_o what_o god_n have_v put_v into_o the_o creature_n it_o be_v his_o blessing_n with_o it_o that_o god_n in_o the_o ordinary_a course_n of_o his_o providence_n do_v convey_v such_o natural_a or_o civil_a good_a in_o the_o use_n of_o those_o creature_n but_o now_o when_o i_o come_v to_o hear_v his_o word_n i_o here_o come_v to_o wait_v upon_o god_n in_o the_o way_n of_o a_o ordinance_n for_o the_o conveyance_n of_o some_o spiritual_a good_a that_o this_o ordinance_n have_v not_o in_o its_o self_n take_v it_o material_o but_o mere_o as_o it_o have_v a_o institution_n in_o it_o and_o be_v appoint_v by_o god_n for_o the_o conveyance_n of_o such_o and_o such_o thing_n god_n do_v appoint_v meat_n to_o nourish_v i_o and_o together_o with_o his_o appointment_n he_o have_v give_v a_o natural_a power_n to_o meat_n to_o nourish_v my_o body_n that_o in_o a_o ordinary_a course_n of_o providence_n be_v enough_o for_o the_o nourishment_n of_o my_o body_n but_o now_o when_o i_o come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n i_o must_v look_v upon_o that_o not_o only_o as_o a_o thing_n appoint_v to_o work_v upon_o my_o soul_n and_o to_o save_v my_o soul_n by_o not_o as_o a_o thing_n that_o have_v any_o efficacy_n put_v into_o it_o in_o a_o natural_a way_n as_o the_o other_o have_v it_o be_v not_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o thing_n that_o carry_v such_o a_o power_n in_o it_o but_o it_o be_v the_o institution_n of_o god_n and_o the_o ordinance_n of_o god_n in_o it_o now_o then_o when_o i_o come_v to_o wait_v upon_o god_n in_o a_o ordinance_n for_o the_o spiritual_a good_a that_o be_v beyond_o the_o virtue_n of_o any_o creature_n to_o convey_v to_o i_o certain_o god_n shall_v have_v no_o place_n in_o the_o heart_n if_o a_o temptation_n to_o sin_n come_v that_o have_v a_o place_n in_o the_o heart_n but_o when_o the_o word_n come_v that_o have_v no_o place_n particular_a my_o brethren_n there_o be_v no_o such_o way_n to_o honour_n god_n or_o get_v good_a to_o your_o own_o soul_n as_o the_o application_n of_o the_o word_n unto_o yourselves_o as_o a_o man_n that_o be_v asleep_a if_o there_o be_v annoise_n make_v it_o will_v not_o awake_v he_o so_o soon_o but_o come_v and_o call_v he_o by_o his_o name_n and_o say_v john_n or_o thomas_n and_o that_o will_v too_o in_o the_o congregation_n but_o themselves_o this_o be_v a_o mercy_n when_o the_o lord_n do_v it_o unto_o you_o but_o it_o be_v a_o great_a mercy_n when_o the_o lord_n give_v you_o a_o heart_n to_o apply_v it_o to_o yourselves_o and_o although_o it_o may_v trouble_v you_o a_o little_a for_o the_o present_a yet_o be_v willing_a to_o apply_v it_o and_o account_v it_o a_o great_a mercy_n do_v we_o but_o little_a good_a apply_v it_o and_o then_o believe_v it_o in_o heb._n 4.2_o it_o be_v say_v that_o the_o word_n preach_v do_v not_o profit_v they_o not_o be_v mix_v with_o faith_n in_o they_o that_o hear_v it_o wherefore_o there_o must_v be_v a_o mixture_n of_o faith_n to_o believe_v the_o word_n that_o the_o lord_n bring_v unto_o you_o now_o concern_v that_o i_o will_v but_o propound_v these_o few_o particular_n you_o will_v say_v must_v we_o believe_v every_o thing_n that_o be_v speak_v sometime_o there_o be_v some_o thing_n speak_v that_o we_o can_v tell_v how_o to_o cor._n 10.6_o the_o cup_n of_o blessing_n which_o we_o bless_v be_v it_o not_o the_o communion_n of_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n the_o bread_n which_o we_o break_v be_v it_o not_o the_o communion_n of_o the_o body_n of_o christ_n i_o say_v we_o be_v now_o treat_v about_o this_o point_n how_o we_o be_v to_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o that_o which_o the_o scripture_n call_v the_o communion_n of_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n and_o now_o for_o the_o open_n of_o that_o first_o we_o must_v know_v that_o this_o be_v a_o part_n of_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n and_o we_o come_v to_o present_v ourselves_o before_o god_n and_o we_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o god_n himself_o in_o a_o service_n that_o he_o himself_o require_v of_o we_o in_o a_o holy_a in_o a_o divine_a service_n we_o come_v to_o present_v ourselves_o to_o god_n for_o blessing_n for_o communication_n of_o some_o high_a good_a unto_o we_o then_o possible_o those_o creature_n that_o we_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o be_v able_a of_o themselves_o to_o covey_n to_o we_o we_o come_v for_o a_o high_a good_a than_o to_o taste_v a_o piece_n of_o bread_n or_o to_o drink_v a_o draught_n of_o wine_n we_o come_v i_o say_v to_o present_v ourselves_o to_o god_n that_o we_o may_v have_v communion_n with_o he_o and_o that_o we_o may_v have_v the_o blessing_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n convey_v unto_o we_o through_o these_o thing_n now_o certain_o this_o be_v a_o draw_v nigh_o to_o god_n for_o to_o present_v ourselves_o for_o the_o conveyance_n of_o the_o blessing_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n through_o these_o creature_n yea_o that_o we_o may_v have_v communion_n with_o god_n himself_o in_o they_o this_o be_v draw_v nigh_o to_o he_o when_o we_o come_v to_o his_o table_n therefore_o we_o draw_v nigh_o to_o god_n have_v not_o god_n institute_v and_o appoint_v these_o creature_n bread_n and_o wine_n and_o the_o action_n about_o they_o to_o be_v the_o mean_n of_o conveyance_n of_o blessing_n unto_o as_o it_o have_v be_v will-worship_n for_o we_o to_o have_v expect_v any_o further_a presence_n of_o god_n in_o such_o creature_n than_o there_o be_v in_o the_o nature_n of_o they_o it_o be_v true_a god_n be_v present_a with_o every_o creature_n when_o we_o eat_v and_o drink_v at_o our_o table_n god_n be_v present_a there_o but_o we_o can_v be_v say_v to_o draw_v nigh_o to_o god_n and_o worship_n god_n there_o for_o we_o there_o look_v for_o no_o further_a presence_n of_o god_n with_o we_o in_o they_o to_o convey_v further_a good_a than_o the_o lord_n have_v put_v into_o the_o nature_n of_o those_o thing_n only_o when_o godly_a people_n take_v they_o and_o receive_v they_o as_o blessing_n sanctify_v by_o the_o word_n they_o take_v they_o as_o the_o blessing_n of_o god_n that_o come_v out_o of_o love_n to_o they_o but_o now_o when_o we_o come_v to_o receive_v that_o which_o be_v call_v the_o communion_n there_o we_o expect_v thing_n that_o be_v beyond_o the_o nature_n of_o these_o creature_n to_o convey_v that_o that_o be_v by_o a_o institution_n of_o god_n set_v a_o part_n for_o supernatural_a use_n and_o end_n not_o to_o convey_v in_o any_o natural_a way_n such_o and_o such_o thing_n but_o in_o a_o supernatural_a way_n through_o the_o institution_n of_o god_n and_o so_o it_o come_v to_o be_v worship_n have_v we_o not_o i_o say_v a_o command_n for_o this_o it_o be_v superstition_n and_o idolatry_n for_o we_o to_o make_v use_n of_o such_o creature_n for_o such_o end_n if_o any_o man_n in_o the_o world_n shall_v have_v appoint_v a_o piece_n of_o bread_n or_o a_o draught_n of_o wine_n to_o have_v signify_v and_o seal_v the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n it_o have_v be_v superstition_n in_o any_o and_o will-worship_n and_o sinful_a and_o abominable_a to_o you_o but_o we_o be_v to_o look_v upon_o god_n set_v apart_o these_o creature_n for_o such_o holy_a and_o solemn_a end_n and_o therefore_o when_o we_o come_v to_o be_v exercise_v in_o they_o we_o come_v to_o worship_n god_n and_o we_o come_v likewise_o to_o tender_v up_o our_o homage_n to_o god_n when_o we_o come_v to_o attend_v upon_o he_o in_o such_o ordinance_n as_o these_o be_v to_o tender_v up_o that_o homage_n that_o be_v due_a from_o we_o poor_a creature_n unto_o such_o a_o infinite_a and_o glorious_a god_n and_o therefore_o we_o draw_v nigh_o to_o he_o in_o these_o second_o we_o must_v sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o draw_v nigh_o to_o he_o whatsoever_o we_o do_v whether_o we_o eat_v or_o drink_v we_o must_v do_v all_o to_o the_o owe_v unto_o god_n and_o so_o every_o time_n you_o come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n there_o be_v a_o profession_n that_o you_o come_v to_o tender_v up_o that_o respect_n and_o homage_n that_o you_o when_o i_o come_v to_o worship_n god_n i_o come_v to_o set_v myself_o before_o the_o lord_n in_o those_o way_n that_o god_n do_v let_v out_o the_o choice_n of_o his_o mercy_n to_o his_o people_n in_o i_o have_v many_o mercy_n from_o god_n in_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o the_o creature_n but_o when_o i_o come_v to_o worship_v he_o i_o expect_v the_o communication_n of_o his_o mercy_n in_o another_o way_n then_o through_o any_o creature_n in_o the_o world_n the_o duty_n of_o his_o worship_n be_v the_o chief_n chamnel_n that_o god_n do_v let_v out_o the_o choice_a of_o his_o mercy_n to_o the_o heart_n of_o his_o people_n through_o and_o now_o i_o be_o go_v to_o worship_n he_o i_o be_o go_v to_o present_v myself_o fore_o god_n indeed_o there_o be_v a_o little_a glimmer_n of_o the_o light_n of_o god_n through_o other_o creature_n to_o i_o but_o the_o glorious_a beam_n of_o the_o light_n of_o god_n be_v through_o the_o duty_n of_o his_o worship_n 3._o and_o then_o three_o i_o be_o now_o go_v to_o act_v my_o soul_n upon_o god_n so_o that_o if_o i_o have_v any_o ability_n to_o close_v with_o god_n to_o act_v my_o soul_n upon_o he_o it_o must_v be_v put_v forth_o now_o at_o this_o have_v a_o enlighten_v conscience_n and_o be_v under_o the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n the_o come_n to_o god_n in_o holy_a duty_n be_v a_o very_a grievous_a burden_n to_o they_o why_o here_o be_v the_o be_v with_o adam_n when_o god_n appear_v in_o the_o garden_n and_o call_v to_o he_o he_o run_v to_o hide_v himself_o why_o because_o he_o have_v guiltiness_n upon_o he_o oh_o the_o evil_a that_o the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n bring_v upon_o the_o soul_n it_o make_v the_o presence_n of_o god_n terrible_a the_o presence_n of_o god_n it_o shall_v be_v more_o comfortable_a to_o we_o than_o our_o life_n but_o our_o sin_n make_v god_n presence_n grievous_a and_o terrible_a a_o child_n sometime_o when_o it_o have_v offend_v the_o father_n and_o be_v conscious_a to_o its_o self_n of_o the_o offence_n that_o it_o have_v give_v the_o father_n it_o have_v rather_o be_v in_o the_o kitchen_n among_o the_o servant_n than_o to_o come_v into_o the_o hall_n or_o parlour_n where_o the_o father_n be_v because_o it_o have_v offend_v he_o and_o so_o it_o be_v with_o a_o guilty_a conscience_n when_o it_o be_v conscious_a to_o its_o self_n of_o some_o haunt_n of_o evil_n that_o it_o have_v give_v itself_o unto_o it_o have_v no_o mind_n at_o all_o of_o come_v into_o the_o presence_n of_o the_o father_n but_o hang_v off_o my_o brethren_n the_o very_a presence_n of_o god_n in_o the_o communion_n of_o his_o saint_n be_v terrible_a to_o a_o guilty_a conscience_n the_o very_a look_v upon_o a_o godly_a man_n be_v terrible_a to_o a_o guilty_a conscience_n when_o as_o thou_o have_v be_v abroad_o &_o be_v loose_a and_o wicked_a in_o thy_o way_n i_o appeal_v to_o thy_o conscience_n when_o thou_o come_v into_o the_o presence_n of_o some_o holy_a gracious_a man_n or_o woman_n that_o live_v close_o with_o god_n do_v it_o not_o daunt_v thou_o now_o be_v the_o presence_n of_o god_n in_o the_o very_a face_n of_o his_o saint_n terrible_a to_o a_o guilty_a conscience_n how_o terrible_a be_v the_o presence_n of_o god_n in_o his_o ordinance_n then_o indeed_o those_o man_n and_o woman_n who_o conscience_n be_v not_o enlighten_v but_o be_v ignorant_a and_o sottish_a they_o can_v sin_v against_o god_n and_o go_v into_o his_o presence_n without_o any_o trouble_n you_o shall_v have_v man_n swear_v and_o be_v drunken_a overnight_o and_o come_v to_o the_o sacrament_n the_o next_o day_n what_o be_v the_o reason_n because_o there_o be_v no_o light_n in_o their_o conscience_n their_o conscience_n be_v in_o darkness_n they_o be_v besot_v in_o their_o sin_n but_o i_o speak_v now_o of_o one_o who_o have_v a_o enlighten_v conscience_n the_o presence_n of_o god_n be_v terrible_a to_o such_o a_o one_o a_o three_o use_n be_v this_o here_o be_v the_o reason_n why_o hypocrite_n do_v meet_v with_o such_o vengeance_n from_o god_n as_o they_o do_v i_o confess_v we_o shall_v meet_v with_o this_o more_o especial_o afterward_o only_o by_o the_o way_n take_v notice_n of_o it_o hypocrite_n above_o all_o man_n may_v expect_v the_o severe_a judgement_n of_o god_n upon_o they_o because_o they_o come_v so_o nigh_o god_n for_o they_o come_v often_o to_o the_o duty_n of_o god_n worship_n now_o they_o that_o will_v come_v so_o nigh_o god_n presence_n and_o come_v with_o base_a and_o ungodly_a heart_n to_o cloak_v their_o villainy_n of_o all_o in_o the_o world_n they_o must_v expect_v to_o have_v the_o severe_a vengeance_n of_o god_n let_v down_o upon_o they_o they_o that_o stand_v nigh_a the_o bullet_n must_v expect_v to_o have_v the_o strength_n of_o it_o to_o be_v the_o more_o upon_o they_o so_o when_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n proceed_v out_o upon_o sinner_n wicked_a man_n that_o stand_v nigh_a he_o they_o have_v the_o great_a stroke_n of_o god_n wrath_n but_o of_o that_o more_o when_o
