and_o that_o be_v the_o person_n against_o who_o we_o commit_v it_o and_o that_o be_v the_o lord_n and_o sin_n so_o look_v upon_o come_v to_o have_v another_o relation_n put_v upon_o it_o not_o only_o as_o a_o obliquity_n and_o deformity_n but_o as_o a_o injury_n as_o a_o rebellion_n a_o unkindness_n recompense_v evil_a for_o good_a the_o first_o way_n sin_n be_v consider_v as_o a_o obliquity_n from_o a_o straight_a rule_n but_o in_o this_o latter_a as_o against_o the_o person_n of_o god_n as_o against_o thy_o husband_n now_o therefore_o to_o humble_v thou_o do_v thus_o go_v humiliation_n he_o as_o i_o find_v that_o he_o in_o the_o word_n have_v a_o full_a consent_n to_o take_v i_o then_o certain_o thou_o be_v humble_v else_o not_o if_o thou_o have_v take_v he_o only_o in_o a_o fit_a and_o not_o out_o of_o judgement_n thou_o will_v have_v repent_v thou_o ere_o now_o the_o second_o end_n which_o humiliation_n serve_v to_o be_v for_o sanctification_n as_o the_o other_o help_v he_o in_o his_o justification_n sanctification_n that_o every_o unruly_a lust_n may_v be_v break_v and_o mortify_v in_o thou_o that_o thou_o may_v fear_v to_o offend_v and_o be_v pliable_a to_o the_o lord_n in_o every_o thing_n whereas_o another_o that_o be_v unbroken_a quarrel_n with_o every_o thing_n think_v his_o work_n too_o much_o and_o his_o wage_n too_o little_a and_o know_v not_o why_o he_o shall_v go_v a_o contrary_a way_n to_o the_o world_n but_o a_o humble_a man_n simile_n will_v do_v all_o this_o cheerful_o like_o a_o break_a horse_n that_o turn_v at_o every_o check_n of_o the_o bridle_n when_o another_o cast_v his_o rider_n do_v thou_o find_v that_o thou_o tremble_v at_o the_o word_n and_o fear_v sin_n and_o dare_v not_o venture_v in_o it_o and_o so_o for_o duty_n thou_o dare_v not_o neglect_v they_o and_o this_o thou_o have_v experience_n of_o in_o the_o whole_a course_n of_o thy_o life_n then_o sure_o this_o work_n of_o humiliation_n have_v be_v in_o thy_o heart_n though_o thou_o see_v not_o the_o fire_n yet_o if_o thou_o find_v the_o heat_n it_o have_v be_v there_o for_o these_o be_v the_o effect_n of_o it_o and_o as_o i_o speak_v this_o for_o the_o comfort_n of_o those_o that_o have_v not_o feel_v such_o violent_a sorrow_n so_o let_v i_o on_o the_o contrary_n say_v to_o other_o who_o it_o may_v be_v have_v have_v such_o fit_n of_o sorrow_n yet_o if_o thou_o find_v a_o unwillingnes_n to_o submit_v thus_o to_o christ_n find_v thy_o neck_n stiff_a to_o the_o lord_n yoke_n and_o such_o a_o unbrokennesse_n in_o thou_o that_o thou_o can_v not_o live_v be_v none_o excuse_v there_o may_v be_v a_o let_v in_o preparative_n humiliation_n a_o man_n may_v be_v swallow_v of_o two_o humiliation_n much_o sorrow_n but_o not_o in_o this_o which_o be_v a_o duty_n of_o sanctification_n and_o know_v this_o that_o all_o degree_n of_o grace_n arise_v from_o the_o degree_n of_o this_o true_a humiliation_n which_o i_o make_v good_a to_o you_o thus_o faith_n and_o love_n be_v the_o great_a radical_a grace_n all_o elseare_n but_o branch_n spring_v out_o of_o they_o now_o they_o be_v strengthen_v by_o this_o humiliation_n and_o grace_n the_o more_o they_o grow_v there_o be_v a_o addition_n still_o make_v to_o they_o as_o there_o be_v a_o addition_n make_v to_o our_o humiliation_n first_o for_o faith_n know_v that_o the_o more_o strong_o faith_n a_o man_n lay_v hold_v on_o christ_n and_o prize_v he_o the_o more_o he_o go_v on_o to_o apprehend_v his_o sin_n and_o be_v empty_v of_o himself_o and_o though_o a_o man_n take_v christ_n true_o at_o his_o first_o conversion_n yet_o there_o be_v degree_n of_o prize_v he_o when_o a_o husband_n take_v a_o wife_n though_o at_o their_o feast_n marriage_n there_o be_v such_o love_n between_o they_o as_o they_o will_v have_v choose_v each_o other_o before_o any_o other_o in_o the_o world_n yet_o so_o as_o this_o their_o love_n may_v admit_v degree_n after_o marriage_n they_o may_v see_v more_o ground_n of_o love_v each_o other_o more_o so_o that_o though_o the_o match_n be_v make_v yet_o they_o may_v be_v more_o confirm_v in_o their_o choice_n which_o may_v be_v make_v more_o full_a and_o absolute_a so_o towards_o christ_n the_o will_n and_o affection_n may_v be_v wind_v up_o to_o a_o high_a peg_n which_o be_v do_v by_o a_o further_a degree_n of_o humiliation_n what_o be_v faith_n but_o a_o lay_v hold_n of_o christ_n now_o the_o empty_a the_o hand_n be_v the_o further_a what_o hold_v it_o take_v and_o the_o more_o we_o be_v take_v off_o our_o own_o bottom_n the_o further_o we_o will_v cleave_v to_o christ._n a_o man_n in_o a_o river_n that_o be_v like_a to_o be_v drown_v and_o have_v a_o rope_n cast_v to_o he_o he_o will_v be_v sure_a to_o catch_v as_o fast_o hold_v simile_n as_o he_o can_v you_o shall_v not_o need_v to_o bid_v he_o and_o to_o this_o end_n it_o be_v that_o christian_n be_v still_o teach_v more_o and_o more_o by_o the_o spirit_n to_o see_v the_o vanity_n of_o the_o creature_n the_o vileness_n of_o their_o nature_n and_o they_o be_v lead_v through_o this_o wilderness_n to_o humble_v they_o that_o so_o christ_n may_v have_v the_o high_a place_n in_o their_o heart_n again_o the_o great_a the_o thirst_n be_v the_o great_a will_v a_o man_n draught_n be_v and_o the_o more_o you_o add_v to_o your_o humiliation_n the_o more_o will_v your_o thirst_n be_v after_o christ_n and_o you_o will_v drink_v deep_o of_o the_o fountain_n of_o life_n and_o draw_v more_o sap_n from_o he_o and_o second_o it_o increase_v your_o love_n for_o thereby_o love_n we_o come_v to_o see_v ourselves_o more_o behold_v to_o god_n as_o have_v a_o great_a debt_n forgive_v we_o what_o make_v mary_n love_n much_o but_o because_o she_o be_v sensible_a much_o be_v forgive_v she_o therefore_o labour_n more_o and_o more_o to_o be_v humble_v especial_o as_o you_o fall_v into_o new_a sin_n which_o the_o lord_n oft_o let_v he_o to_o do_v that_o they_o may_v be_v humble_v more_o and_o the_o more_o light_a a_o christian_n get_v to_o discover_v his_o own_o vileness_n and_o the_o vanity_n of_o the_o creature_n the_o strong_a he_o will_v grow_v in_o grace_n and_o the_o observe_v these_o two_o rule_n first_o labour_n to_o see_v the_o greatness_n of_o sin_n second_o to_o see_v your_o own_o weakness_n and_o unability_n to_o help_v yourselves_o for_o the_o first_o do_v not_o weigh_v sin_n by_o common_a opinion_n but_o in_o a_o right_a balance_n do_v not_o do_v with_o sin_n your_o soul_n as_o some_o do_v with_o their_o body_n when_o their_o beauty_n be_v decay_v they_o desire_v to_o hide_v it_o from_o themselves_o by_o false_a glass_n and_o from_o other_o by_o paint_n so_o do_v we_o for_o the_o most_o part_n
you_o have_v lose_v thou_o may_v seek_v salvation_n and_o deliverance_n from_o hell_n out_o of_o the_o strength_n of_o natural_a wisdom_n because_o it_o be_v for_o thy_o good_a and_o also_o be_v convince_v of_o the_o necessity_n of_o faith_n and_o repentance_n to_o escape_v hell_n and_o obtain_v salvation_n man_n may_v thereupon_o go_v far_o in_o the_o performance_n of_o many_o duty_n and_o be_v constant_a a_o while_n in_o they_o and_o yet_o not_o seek_v the_o lord_n face_n in_o all_o these_o and_o then_o the_o lord_n regard_v they_o not_o take_v a_o thief_n that_o be_v arraign_v simile_n at_o the_o bar_n he_o will_v cry_v earnest_o for_o his_o life_n but_o yet_o he_o seek_v not_o the_o face_n of_o the_o judge_n i._n e._n he_o do_v it_o without_o love_n to_o the_o judge_n but_o only_o out_o of_o the_o love_n of_o life_n so_o we_o may_v do_v much_o to_o escape_v hell_n and_o to_o attain_v the_o life_n opposite_a to_o it_o and_o yet_o all_o this_o while_n not_o seek_v the_o presence_n of_o god_n and_o then_o god_n regard_v it_o not_o you_o find_v this_o disposition_n in_o yourselves_o and_o see_v it_o in_o other_o if_o a_o man_n be_v never_o so_o observant_a of_o any_o of_o you_o and_o perform_v never_o so_o many_o office_n of_o friendship_n to_o you_o yet_o if_o a_o man_n can_v say_v he_o love_v i_o not_o for_o all_o this_o he_o do_v not_o prize_v i_o nor_o desire_v my_o love_n and_o favour_n so_o much_o for_o itself_o but_o for_o his_o own_o end_n in_o this_o case_n you_o care_v not_o for_o what_o he_o do_v so_o the_o lord_n he_o know_v the_o heart_n be_v a_o mark_n set_v upon_o god_n people_n alone_o to_o seek_v god_n face_n 24._o we_o will_v therefore_o further_o and_o more_o particular_o consider_v what_o it_o be_v to_o seek_v god_n face_n or_o presence_n and_o there_o be_v three_o way_n to_o find_v it_o out_o first_o by_o what_o be_v here_o join_v with_o it_o if_o they_o humble_v i_o themselves_o and_o seek_v my_o face_n and_o so_o by_o consider_v the_o connexion_n that_o these_o two_o have_v together_o find_v out_o what_o seek_v of_o god_n face_n be_v now_o there_o be_v a_o twofold_a humiliation_n wrought_v in_o man_n the_o one_o be_v for_o that_o bitterness_n and_o punishment_n twofold_a that_o sin_n bring_v with_o it_o and_o this_o never_o bring_v forth_o either_o faithful_a prayer_n or_o seek_v god_n face_n but_o there_o be_v another_o kind_n of_o humiliation_n which_o have_v a_o further_a ingredient_n in_o it_o and_o that_o be_v the_o sight_n of_o the_o foulness_n of_o sin_n when_o god_n open_v a_o crevise_n of_o light_a to_o look_v upon_o sin_n not_o only_o as_o that_o which_o bring_v bitterness_n with_o it_o but_o as_o that_o which_o in_o itself_o be_v most_o filthy_a and_o abominable_a and_o by_o that_o light_n it_o be_v make_v such_o in_o his_o account_n for_o it_o be_v one_o thing_n to_o flee_v from_o the_o sting_n of_o the_o serpent_n a_o other_o thing_n to_o hate_v the_o serpent_n itself_o and_o so_o to_o take_v heed_n of_o the_o wolf_n because_o of_o his_o cruelty_n and_o to_o hate_v the_o wolf_n itself_o be_v differ_v thing_n other_o creature_n may_v hate_v the_o property_n and_o condition_n of_o a_o wolf_n but_o a_o lamb_n only_o hate_v the_o wolf_n itself_o now_o with_o this_o latter_a kind_n of_o humiliation_n there_o go_v and_o be_v conjunct_a with_o it_o a_o enlighten_v whereby_o god_n show_v to_o a_o man_n his_o own_o glorious_a face_n the_o lustre_n whereof_o help_v he_o further_a to_o see_v the_o foulness_n excellency_n of_o sin_n god_n by_o the_o same_o light_n of_o the_o spirit_n whereby_o he_o show_v a_o man_n the_o ugliness_n of_o sin_n discover_v withal_o his_o own_o excellency_n which_o make_v the_o sinner_n thus_o humble_v to_o seek_v his_o face_n to_o seek_v grace_n as_o well_o as_o mercy_n but_o other_o man_n either_o see_v not_o god_n face_n at_o all_o or_o only_o see_v his_o angry_a countenance_n only_o those_o who_o the_o lord_n call_v
