possible_a opportunity_n while_o we_o be_v yet_o here_o below_o and_o at_o this_o distance_n from_o he_o to_o do_v this_o in_o remembrance_n of_o he_o how_o can_v we_o think_v that_o our_o other_o devotion_n shall_v be_v prevalent_a with_o or_o acceptable_a to_o the_o holy_a god_n without_o the_o intercession_n of_o our_o saviour_n and_o the_o merit_n of_o his_o suffering_n and_o yet_o this_o be_v the_o way_n he_o have_v appoint_v to_o give_v our_o prayer_n a_o interest_n in_o his_o sacrifice_n can_v we_o reasonable_o suppose_v that_o indeed_o any_o duty_n whatever_a and_o the_o performance_n of_o they_o shall_v be_v accept_v when_o this_o great_a and_o solemn_a act_n of_o religious_a worship_n shall_v be_v refuse_v omit_v and_o neglect_v o_o let_v we_o in_o our_o next_o retirement_n when_o we_o be_v withdraw_v from_o the_o noise_n and_o tumult_n and_o business_n and_o thought_n of_o the_o world_n deep_o think_v shall_v we_o not_o have_v reason_n to_o be_v afraid_a that_o no_o petition_n of_o we_o no_o devotion_n no_o work_n of_o mercy_n piety_n or_o charity_n no_o fast_n or_o alm_n no_o hear_n or_o reading_n shall_v be_v accept_v without_o this_o part_n of_o our_o christian_a worship_n will_v it_o not_o further_o be_v a_o sad_a and_o dismal_a consideration_n to_o remember_v in_o the_o hour_n of_o death_n or_o day_n of_o judgement_n that_o these_o and_o many_o other_o holy_a action_n shall_v fall_v to_o the_o ground_n be_v vain_a and_o lose_v only_o for_o our_o wilful_a neglect_n of_o this_o holy_a sacrament_n again_o in_o the_o same_o retirement_n from_o the_o world_n and_o in_o your_o next_o meditation_n consider_v what_o can_v you_o think_v of_o a_o rich_a and_o very_o wealthy_a person_n that_o never_o in_o all_o his_o life_n shall_v be_v persuade_v to_o bestow_v so_o much_o as_o the_o worth_n of_o a_o farthing_n to_o the_o poor_a and_o needy_a or_o what_o thought_n shall_v we_o have_v of_o he_o who_o never_o in_o the_o whole_a course_n of_o his_o life_n shall_v offer_v up_o a_o prayer_n to_o god_n either_o in_o public_a or_o in_o secret_a the_o same_o may_v we_o think_v of_o he_o that_o will_v never_o accept_v of_o a_o invitation_n to_o fit_a and_o trim_a the_o soul_n to_o come_v and_o with_o the_o rest_n of_o his_o christian_a brethren_n to_o partake_v of_o these_o holy_a mystery_n for_o they_o do_v but_o disobey_v a_o plain_a command_n of_o our_o saviour_n the_o one_o only_o disobey_v the_o command_n of_o feed_v the_o hungry_a and_o clothing_n the_o naked_a the_o other_o only_o refuse_v obedience_n to_o the_o have_v we_o be_v in_o it_o perform_v one_o duty_n and_o omit_v two_o reform_v one_o iniquity_n and_o then_o soon_o after_o enter_v upon_o another_o instead_o of_o it_o thus_o can_v we_o not_o remember_v that_o we_o may_v have_v change_v the_o lust_n of_o our_o youth_n into_o the_o covetousness_n of_o old_a age_n the_o intemperance_n and_o vanity_n of_o our_o young_a day_n into_o revenge_n and_o malice_n in_o our_o grow_a year_n and_o so_o instead_o of_o a_o universal_a reformation_n often_o exchange_v only_o one_o sin_n for_o another_o then_o again_o how_o gross_a have_v our_o ignorance_n be_v of_o our_o necessary_a and_o indispensable_a duty_n and_o yet_o of_o those_o that_o we_o have_v know_v how_o few_o have_v we_o faithful_o discharge_v how_o have_v the_o world_n flesh_n and_o devil_n step_v in_o between_o we_o and_o our_o former_a resolution_n of_o obedience_n so_o dismal_o have_v we_o break_v our_o part_n of_o the_o covenant_n but_o now_o do_v our_o god_n and_o saviour_n call_v we_o to_o renew_v it_o once_o more_o and_o will_v he_o be_v reconcile_v to_o we_o yet_o if_o we_o hearty_o return_v and_o renounce_v iniquity_n and_o give_v up_o ourselves_o to_o obey_v his_o command_n and_o be_v he_o ready_a to_o give_v we_o a_o assurance_n of_o this_o and_o to_o confirm_v it_o in_o the_o holy_a sacrament_n come_v my_o soul_n let_v we_o examine_v ourselves_o and_o consider_v what_o our_o breach_n have_v be_v of_o this_o gracious_a covenant_n at_o least_o our_o great_a and_o our_o more_o notorious_a heinous_a breach_n that_o be_v what_o our_o omission_n of_o our_o duty_n have_v be_v what_o our_o know_a commission_n have_v be_v that_o so_o we_o may_v come_v to_o a_o true_a and_o deep_a humiliation_n of_o ourselves_o before_o god_n and_o be_v sensible_a of_o our_o crime_n and_o heavy_a lade_v we_o may_v come_v to_o jesus_n to_o be_v ease_v of_o they_o and_o that_o so_o see_v they_o we_o may_v loathe_v they_o that_o loathe_v they_o we_o may_v remember_v this_o when_o we_o come_v to_o the_o table_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o that_o we_o may_v remember_v it_o too_o when_o we_o be_v come_v off_o from_o that_o holy_a table_n and_o be_v go_v abroad_o into_o the_o world_n again_o and_o throw_v they_o off_o forever_o that_o so_o we_o may_v ever_o remember_v how_o dear_o they_o cost_v we_o and_o if_o return_v to_o again_o be_v like_a to_o cost_v we_o dearer_o how_o dear_o they_o cost_v our_o jesus_n and_o yet_o how_o willing_a he_o be_v to_o be_v reconcile_v and_o when_o the_o temptation_n return_v again_o we_o may_v beat_v it_o off_o by_o divine_a aid_n with_o some_o of_o these_o consideration_n some_o of_o these_o remembrance_n and_o especial_o this_o that_o forgiveness_n belong_v not_o to_o he_o who_o sin_n and_o repent_v repent_v and_o sin_n on_o still_o but_o to_o he_o who_o repent_v so_o as_o to_o forsake_v his_o crime_n and_o his_o iniquity_n plain_o and_o in_o short_a the_o meaning_n of_o examination_n be_v to_o consider_v these_o three_o thing_n follow_v first_o to_o examine_v whether_o you_o right_o understand_v that_o vow_n and_o covenant_n which_o you_o make_v with_o god_n in_o your_o baptism_n and_o which_o you_o come_v to_o renew_v and_o seal_v again_o with_o god_n in_o the_o sacrament_n if_o you_o do_v not_o it_o be_v i_o say_v it_o again_o brief_o this_o almighty_a god_n on_o his_o part_n gracious_o promise_v a_o free_a pardon_n of_o all_o your_o past-sin_n grace_n here_o and_o salvation_n hereafter_o by_o jesus_n christ_n upon_o condition_n that_o we_o discharge_v our_o part_n that_o be_v serious_o believe_v the_o truth_n of_o the_o gospel_n of_o our_o saviour_n true_o repent_v of_o all_o our_o sin_n and_o by_o sincere_a resolution_n and_o constant_a endeavour_n of_o future_a ourselves_o or_o neighbour_n we_o can_v charge_v upon_o ourselves_o either_o of_o thought_n word_n or_o action_n and_o when_o we_o have_v so_o do_v to_o bewail_v they_o hearty_o as_o well_o as_o our_o secret-sin_n with_o david_n ps_n 19.12_o to_o take_v new_a resolution_n against_o they_o to_o go_v and_o declare_v those_o our_o holy_a resolution_n at_o the_o holy_a sacrament_n and_o when_o that_o be_v over_o to_o labour_v watchful_o and_o sincere_o to_o keep_v those_o pious_a resolution_n this_o be_v 〈◊〉_d short_a the_o meaning_n of_o examination_n as_o to_o the_o particular_a head_n of_o
