ground_n of_o our_o heart_n be_v barren_a the_o good_a seed_n of_o god_n word_n may_v be_v sow_v therein_o but_o little_a fruit_n shall_v come_v thereof_o save_o brier_n and_o weed_n which_o will_v increase_v our_o damnation_n again_o whereas_o the_o love_n of_o temporal_a life_n &_o care_n of_o earthly_a thing_n etc._n etc._n be_v sore_a burden_n press_v down_o a_o man_n heart_n from_o heaven_n first_o put_v our_o faith_n in_o practice_n by_o humble_v ourselves_o for_o our_o sin_n past_a confess_v they_o true_o unto_o god_n and_o pray_v for_o pardon_n from_o a_o resolute_a purpose_n of_o heart_n to_o lead_v a_o new_a life_n and_o also_o by_o entreat_v health_n of_o god_n and_o his_o good_a blessing_n upon_o the_o mean_n which_o we_o shall_v use_v for_o our_o recovery_n thus_o have_v and_o not_o unto_o the_o lord_n 2._o chron._n 16.12_o though_o otherwise_o he_o have_v good_a thing_n in_o he_o as_o 1._o king_n 15.14_o and_o many_o do_v far_o worse_o who_o seek_v to_o witch_n and_o enchanter_n when_o they_o or_o they_o be_v in_o such_o distress_n but_o this_o be_v to_o forsake_v god_n and_o to_o seek_v help_n of_o the_o devil_n like_v to_o ahaziah_n who_o send_v to_o baalzebub_n sickness_n become_v deadly_a through_o his_o send_n to_o baalzebub_n so_o undoubted_o many_o disease_n become_v incurable_a by_o the_o bad_a and_o preposterous_a deal_n of_o the_o patient_n who_o faith_n make_v man_n valiant_a in_o battle_n then_o shall_v the_o preach_n of_o the_o word_n be_v set_v up_o and_o maintain_v as_o well_o in_o the_o camp_n and_o guarison_n and_o among_o soldier_n the_o true_a god_n both_o in_o their_o calling_n &_o in_o the_o practice_n of_o religion_n and_o therefore_o he_o teach_v they_o to_o offer_v sacrifice_n in_o way_n of_o thankfulness_n unto_o god_n all_o this_o do_v adam_n so_o must_v thou_o do_v with_o the_o child_n which_o god_n have_v give_v thou_o 1._o provide_v for_o they_o careful_o till_o they_o be_v of_o age_n take_v â—eed_o they_o in_o this_o practice_n &_o if_o we_o follow_v he_o in_o one_o follow_v he_o in_o both_o diverse_a will_v be_v as_o careful_a for_o their_o body_n &_o for_o their_o calling_n as_o adam_n be_v but_o how_o few_o be_v as_o careful_a to_o teach_v they_o religion_n for_o the_o preferment_n of_o their_o soul_n to_o life_n eternal_a but_o parent_n must_v have_v care_n of_o both_o these_o else_o they_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o as_o the_o father_n call_v they_o splendida_fw-la peccata_fw-la gild_v and_o glitter_a dross_n and_o beautiful_a deformity_n and_o however_o this_o seem_v harsh_a yet_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v true_a see_v without_o faith_n it_o be_v impossible_a to_o please_v god_n and_o here_o also_o the_o vanity_n of_o some_o popish_a writer_n appear_v who_o presumptuous_o make_v some_o philosopher_n saint_n whereas_o they_o shall_v first_o have_v show_v that_o they_o believe_v in_o christ_n and_o then_o we_o will_v believe_v and_o teach_v it_o as_o willing_o as_o they_o but_o whatsoever_o be_v not_o of_o faith_n be_v sin_n roman_n chapter_n 14._o verse_n 23._o if_o therefore_o man_n action_n must_v proceed_v from_o faith_n then_o consequent_o must_v they_o have_v their_o either_o preach_v or_o read_v they_o regard_v it_o not_o think_v that_o all_o god_n worship_n stand_v in_o the_o repeat_n of_o those_o three_o thing_n which_o show_v that_o they_o worship_n god_n but_o for_o fashion_n sake_n and_o with_o little_a more_o than_o a_o plain_a lip-labour_n another_o sort_n there_o be_v which_o come_v near_o to_o god_n with_o their_o lip_n but_o their_o heart_n be_v far_o from_o he_o for_o though_o their_o body_n be_v present_a in_o the_o congregation_n yet_o their_o heart_n be_v wander_v about_o their_o worldly_a business_n or_o the_o work_n of_o sin_n so_o that_o we_o may_v true_o say_v god_n be_v not_o worship_v with_o faith_n in_o the_o heart_n and_o therefore_o we_o be_v a_o unkind_a people_n and_o quite_o degenerate_a from_o the_o faith_n of_o our_o forefather_n these_o holy_a patriarch_n who_o receive_v god_n promise_n so_o kind_o and_o thankful_o three_o we_o have_v the_o word_n of_o god_n daily_o preach_v and_o teach_v unto_o we_o but_o how_o counsel_n of_o god_n do_v over-rule_v the_o will_n of_o man_n for_o father_n isaac_n have_v purpose_v to_o have_v bless_v esau_n with_o the_o chief_a blessing_n but_o yet_o god_n counsel_n be_v not_o discern_v between_o a_o kids_n skin_n and_o the_o skin_n of_o a_o man_n what_o be_v the_o cause_n hereof_o sure_o it_o be_v god_n will_v and_o counsel_n that_o jacob_n shall_v have_v the_o chief_a blessing_n and_o therefore_o he_o overrule_v isaac_n will_n and_o blind_v his_o sense_n and_o make_v he_o to_o bless_v jacob_n with_o the_o chief_a blessing_n the_o consideration_n hereof_o profaneness_n in_o fornication_n and_o wantonness_n for_o the_o most_o part_n so_o die_v come_v to_o a_o covetous_a man_n at_o his_o death_n and_o talk_v with_o he_o and_o you_o shall_v find_v best_a man_n be_v not_o free_v from_o any_o kind_n of_o bodily_a sickness_n but_o be_v subject_a to_o they_o as_o well_o as_o the_o wicked_a as_o to_o burn_a fever_n and_o such_o like_a by_o the_o violence_n and_o rage_n of_o which_o disease_n they_o be_v often_o drive_v to_o rave_v to_o speak_v fond_o and_o sometime_o lewd_o yea_o it_o may_v be_v profane_o but_o what_o be_v that_o to_o the_o purpose_n for_o though_o a_o godly_a man_n for_o the_o time_n of_o his_o fit_n can_v express_v the_o grace_n of_o his_o heart_n but_o rather_o the_o corruption_n of_o his_o nature_n yet_o when_o he_o have_v recover_v himself_o he_o be_v sorry_a for_o the_o same_o &_o be_v then_o ready_a &_o willing_a to_o praise_n god_n with_o all_o his_o heart_n so_o that_o if_o we_o will_v die_v well_o as_o jacob_n do_v praise_v god_n then_o let_v we_o lead_v our_o life_n as_o he_o do_v namely_o by_o faith_n and_o the_o direction_n of_o his_o word_n and_o promise_n then_o come_v death_n when_o it_o will_v and_o how_o it_o will_v we_o may_v indeed_o be_v sore_o assault_v by_o sickness_n and_o temptation_n but_o yet_o we_o shall_v never_o be_v overcome_v for_o god_n be_v faithful_a that_o have_v promise_v a_o issue_n to_o his_o child_n in_o temptation_n 1._o corinth_n 10.13_o last_o whereas_o jacob_n worship_v god_n at_o his_o death_n here_o we_o learn_v that_o sound_a zeal_n will_v never_o on_o and_o to_o make_v they_o forward_o in_o the_o duty_n of_o religion_n their_o zeal_n as_o paul_n say_v to_o the_o corinthian_n in_o the_o case_n of_o alm_n provoke_v many_o jacob_n the_o father_n whereby_o it_o be_v commend_v for_o the_o first_o it_o be_v say_v that_o by_o faith_n joseph_n when_o he_o die_v etc._n etc._n joseph_n for_o aught_o we_o find_v in_o scripture_n have_v not_o such_o mean_n to_o come_v by_o faith_n as_o his_o ancestor_n have_v before_o he_o for_o the_o three_o patriarch_n abraham_n isaac_n and_o jacob_n have_v otherwhiles_o the_o appearance_n of_o god_n unto_o

displease_v god_n and_o do_v check_v and_o break_v the_o peace_n of_o a_o good_a conscience_n and_o if_o we_o look_v to_o enjoy_v like_o peace_n and_o comfort_n with_o they_o we_o must_v strive_v against_o our_o own_o corrupt_a disposition_n and_o labour_n to_o find_v sin_n to_o be_v our_o great_a sorrow_n worldly_n misery_n may_v affect_v we_o but_o in_o respect_n of_o sorrow_n for_o sin_n all_o worldly_a grief_n shall_v be_v light_n unto_o us._n indeed_o we_o be_v otherwise_o mind_v natural_o but_o herein_o we_o must_v show_v the_o power_n and_o truth_n of_o grace_n that_o to_o the_o like_a practice_n they_o shall_v rise_v up_o in_o judgement_n against_o we_o at_o the_o last_o day_n and_o thus_o much_o of_o moses_n choice_n and_o refusal_n verse_n 26._o esteem_v the_o rebuke_n of_o christ_n great_a riches_n than_o the_o treasure_n of_o egypt_n for_o he_o have_v respect_n to_o the_o recompense_n of_o reward_n moses_n as_o we_o have_v hear_v refuse_v the_o honour_n great_a riches_n than_o all_o the_o wealth_n in_o egypt_n so_o that_o he_o refuse_v not_o absolute_o riches_n honour_n and_o other_o comfort_n but_o choose_v the_o best_a riches_n and_o honour_n and_o leave_v the_o worse_a upon_o a_o sound_a judgement_n between_o thing_n that_o do_v differ_v hereby_o we_o may_v observe_v in_o general_a how_o needful_a a_o thing_n it_o be_v for_o every_o christian_a to_o have_v sound_a knowledge_n &_o understanding_n in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n for_o he_o that_o will_v walk_v upright_o and_o approve_v of_o god_n must_v be_v able_a to_o judge_v between_o thing_n that_o differ_v not_o only_o between_o good_a and_o evil_a but_o between_o good_a and_o good_a which_o be_v the_o better_a and_o so_o of_o evil_n which_o be_v the_o worse_a which_o no_o man_n can_v do_v but_o he_o that_o have_v a_o sound_n and_o right_a judgement_n in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n for_o therein_o be_v attain_v the_o spirit_n of_o discern_v many_o there_o be_v that_o by_o the_o course_n of_o their_o life_n choose_v hell_n and_o refuse_v heaven_n which_o undoubted_o come_v from_o their_o ignorance_n in_o the_o word_n but_o ignorance_n will_v excuse_v none_o he_o that_o will_v come_v to_o heaven_n must_v be_v able_a to_o discern_v good_a from_o evil_n and_o according_o to_o choose_v the_o good_a and_o to_o refuse_v that_o which_o be_v evil_a which_o without_o divine_a and_o supernatural_a knowledge_n no_o man_n can_v do_v and_o therefore_o all_o ignorant_a person_n and_o all_o such_o as_o be_v blind_v through_o the_o deceitfulness_n of_o sin_n must_v shake_v off_o their_o security_n and_o get_v sound_a knowledge_n in_o scripture_n with_o a_o good_a conscience_n that_o when_o thing_n which_o do_v differ_v be_v set_v before_o they_o they_o may_v with_o moses_n second_o grace_n the_o first_o be_v that_o which_o god_n give_v to_o any_o man_n for_o any_o call_n the_o second_o be_v that_o which_o god_n add_v to_o the_o first_o for_o the_o confirm_v thereof_o our_o heart_n forsake_v ourselves_o and_o put_v all_o our_o trust_n in_o christ._n this_o do_v daniel_n when_o he_o be_v in_o the_o lion_n den_n and_o this_o do_v the_o 3._o child_n in_o the_o hot_a fiery_a furnace_n and_o this_o have_v be_v always_o the_o ancient_a practice_n of_o god_n child_n in_o all_o age_n at_o the_o very_a point_n of_o death_n and_o in_o the_o extremity_n of_o all_o danger_n they_o rest_v themselves_o whole_o upon_o the_o merciful_a promise_n of_o the_o true_a god_n the_o time_n will_v come_v upon_o we_o all_o wherein_o we_o shall_v be_v call_v to_o the_o practice_n of_o this_o duty_n for_o we_o must_v all_o pass_v the_o door_n of_o death_n &_o once_o lie_v in_o the_o pang_n thereof_o now_o what_o shall_v we_o do_v when_o we_o lie_v half_o dead_a gasp_v &_o pant_v for_o breath_n able_a to_o speak_v to_o no_o man_n nor_o to_o hear_v any_o speak_n to_o we_o when_o all_o comfort_n of_o the_o world_n fail_v we_o sure_o we_o must_v then_o at_o that_o very_a instant_n labour_v to_o leave_v ourselves_o and_o this_o world_n and_o yield_v up_o ourselves_o by_o faith_n into_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n and_o cleave_v fast_o unto_o christ_n passion_n from_o the_o bottom_n of_o our_o heart_n and_o he_o will_v sure_o deliver_v we_o from_o the_o danger_n stop_v the_o mouth_n of_o satan_n that_o roar_a lion_n &_o quench_v the_o fire_n of_o hell_n that_o it_o shall_v not_o touch_v us._n but_o some_o will_v say_v if_o this_o be_v all_o we_o must_v do_v than_o all_o be_v well_o for_o this_o i_o can_v soon_o do_v when_o time_n serve_v and_o therefore_o i_o will_v take_v no_o care_n till_o then_o answer_n beware_v of_o spiritual_a guile_n for_o it_o will_v be_v find_v a_o most_o hard_a matter_n for_o a_o man_n to_o rely_v and_o cast_v himself_o whole_o upon_o christ_n in_o the_o hour_n and_o pang_n of_o death_n for_o then_o above_o all_o time_n be_v the_o devil_n busy_a against_o we_o then_o will_v the_o conscience_n stir_v if_o ever_o and_o the_o body_n be_v torment_v the_o soul_n must_v needs_o be_v wonderful_a heavy_a this_o we_o may_v see_v by_o the_o state_n of_o our_o saviour_n christ_n in_o his_o agony_n and_o passion_n and_o therefore_o we_o must_v not_o reckon_v so_o light_o of_o this_o duty_n question_n but_o if_o it_o be_v so_o hard_a a_o thing_n how_o can_v daniel_n and_o the_o three_o child_n do_v it_o answer_n they_o be_v prepare_v for_o it_o for_o they_o rest_v upon_o god_n in_o the_o time_n of_o peace_n and_o so_o be_v enable_v to_o rely_v upon_o he_o in_o time_n of_o peril_n even_o so_o if_o we_o will_v believe_v in_o god_n when_o we_o die_v &_o then_o show_v forth_o our_o faith_n we_o must_v while_o we_o live_v put_v our_o trust_n in_o he_o and_o show_v it_o by_o obedience_n for_o rare_a it_o be_v to_o find_v a_o man_n that_o live_v in_o unbelief_n to_o show_v forth_o faith_n at_o his_o end_n and_o therefore_o while_o we_o have_v health_n strength_n and_o peace_n we_o must_v labour_v to_o believe_v and_o then_o shall_v we_o find_v the_o comfort_n of_o it_o in_o time_n of_o peril_n and_o of_o death_n second_o from_o these_o two_o effect_n of_o faith_n we_o observe_v further_o that_o god_n divine_a providence_n do_v firm_o rule_v and_o govern_v the_o whole_a world_n ordinary_o god_n govern_v the_o world_n by_o secundarie_n cause_n set_v one_o creature_n over_o another_o and_o ordain_v one_o to_o do_v this_o thing_n and_o another_o that_o and_o according_o they_o work_v but_o we_o must_v not_o think_v that_o god_n be_v bind_v to_o any_o of_o these_o mean_n but_o be_v most_o free_a to_o use_v they_o or_o not_o to_o use_v they_o ordinary_o he_o execute_v this_o or_o that_o punishment_n by_o this_o or_o that_o creature_n and_o so_o by_o mean_n convey_v his_o blessing_n but_o yet_o he_o can_v work_v without_o they_o as_o here_o we_o see_v for_o he_o preserve_v his_o creature_n against_o the_o ordinary_a mean_n as_o daniel_n from_o the_o lion_n who_o nature_n be_v to_o devour_v and_o against_o the_o nature_n of_o fire_n he_o save_v the_o three_o child_n in_o the_o fire_n so_o that_o god_n work_v by_o mean_n but_o yet_o free_o because_o he_o can_v work_v at_o his_o pleasure_n either_o without_o or_o against_o mean_n and_o his_o powerful_a hand_n save_v against_o mean_n show_v his_o roll_a and_o dispose_v providence_n over_o all_o thing_n three_o by_o these_o effect_n of_o their_o faith_n we_o learn_v that_o god_n goodness_n and_o mercy_n towards_o believer_n be_v far_o great_a and_o more_o unspeakable_a than_o ever_o he_o promise_v or_o they_o can_v expect_v this_o point_n be_v careful_o to_o be_v consider_v of_o we_o all_o for_o it_o be_v of_o singular_a &_o extraordinary_a use_n especial_o in_o time_n of_o peril_n and_o trouble_n and_o yet_o we_o see_v it_o be_v the_o plain_a truth_n of_o god_n and_o therefore_o paul_n give_v thanks_o and_o praise_n unto_o god_n who_o be_v able_a to_o do_v for_o we_o exceed_o abundant_o above_o all_o that_o we_o ask_v or_o think_v 3.20_o daniel_n put_v his_o trust_n in_o the_o lord_n when_o he_o be_v in_o the_o lion_n den_n and_o what_o do_v he_o obtain_v for_o his_o &_o the_o matter_n of_o their_o mock_n be_v religion_n and_o the_o professer_n thereof_o this_o ought_v not_o to_o be_v so_o for_o howsoever_o man_n may_v fail_v both_o in_o knowledge_n &_o practice_n other_o be_v beat_v with_o club_n for_o the_o word_n in_o the_o original_n will_v bear_v either_o translation_n and_o both_o of_o they_o fit_o agree_v to_o this_o kind_n of_o suffer_v for_o in_o these_o time_n the_o enemy_n of_o gods_n church_n use_v to_o set_v the_o body_n of_o they_o that_o be_v to_o be_v torment_v upon_o rack_n and_o engine_n whereon_o they_o stretch_v out_o every_o joint_n and_o then_o do_v beat_v the_o whole_a body_n thus_o rack_v with_o club_n till_o the_o party_n be_v stark_o dead_a a_o example_n of_o this_o kind_n of_o suffer_v we_o have_v in_o eleazar_n a_o of_o god_n servant_n and_o martyr_n so_o then_o the_o true_a meaning_n of_o these_o word_n be_v this_o these_o servant_n of_o god_n refuse_v deliverance_n from_o temporal_a torture_n and_o punishment_n because_o their_o care_n and_o desire_n be_v that_o their_o body_n may_v rise_v again_o to_o life_n everlasting_a at_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n which_o rise_v again_o to_o life_n at_o that_o day_n they_o judge_v far_o better_a than_o to_o rise_v to_o a_o temporal_a life_n for_o a_o while_n in_o this_o world_n this_o reason_n well_o observe_v may_v teach_v we_o these_o two_o
