gradual_o approach_v the_o five_o after_o it_o on_o jeremiah_n 50._o vers_fw-la 4_o 5._o in_o those_o day_n and_o in_o that_o time_n say_v the_o lord_n the_o child_n of_o israel_n shall_v come_v they_o and_o the_o child_n of_o judah_n together_o go_v and_o weep_v they_o shall_v go_v and_o see_v the_o lord_n their_o god_n verse_n 5._o they_o shall_v ask_v the_o way_n to_o zion_n with_o their_o face_n thither-ward_n say_v come_v and_o let_v we_o join_v ourselves_o to_o the_o lord_n in_o a_o perpetual_a covenant_n that_o shall_v not_o bâ—_n forget_v sermon_n i._n the_o repair_n and_o make_v of_o it_o again_o as_o for_o the_o people_n speak_v of_o here_o they_o be_v israel_n and_o judah_n the_o loâ—ds_v own_o covenant_v people_n who_o have_v deal_v false_o and_o foul_o in_o the_o covenant_n and_o have_v thereby_o procure_v sad_a stroke_n to_o themselves_o and_o have_v divide_v and_o separate_v themselves_o from_o god_n and_o one_o of_o they_o from_o another_o which_o division_n and_o separation_n continue_v lamentable_o long_a they_o be_v both_o here_o represent_v as_o come_v home_o together_o serious_o endeavour_v to_o amend_v and_o make_v up_o the_o breach_n betwixt_o god_n and_o they_o and_o among_o themselves_o as_o for_o the_o time_n that_o this_o relate_v to_o in_o those_o day_n and_o in_o that_o time_n say_v the_o lord_n it_o look_v literal_o and_o according_a to_o the_o cohesion_n to_o babylon_n destruction_n and_o 〈◊〉_d lord_n bring_v down_o that_o babylonish_n monarchy_n by_o the_o persian_a king_n cyrus_n in_o which_o time_n the_o people_n of_o god_n have_v some_o
liberty_n to_o return_v to_o their_o own_o land_n yet_o consider_v the_o great_a scope_n of_o the_o word_n and_o that_o this_o liberty_n of_o the_o jew_n be_v in_o a_o great_a part_n fulfil_v in_o christ_n and_o that_o the_o union_n speak_v of_o here_o be_v such_o as_o have_v in_o it_o the_o gather_v together_o of_o all_o the_o tribe_n and_o withal_o that_o the_o covenant_n which_o they_o enter_v into_o with_o the_o lord_n christ_n be_v such_o as_o shall_v never_o be_v forget_v we_o must_v extend_v the_o word_n to_o their_o engraff_n again_o into_o their_o own_o olive_n when_o all_o israel_n shall_v be_v save_v and_o they_o shall_v be_v graff_v into_o their_o own_o root_n and_o stock_n from_o off_o which_o they_o be_v break_v as_o for_o the_o scope_n it_o be_v partly_o off_o encourage_v the_o jew_n this_o be_v not_o only_o a_o promise_n of_o their_o return_n but_o also_o and_o main_o of_o their_o repentance_n and_o of_o their_o friendship_n &_o reconciliation_n with_o god_n and_o with_o one_o another_o in_o those_o day_n they_o that_o have_v be_v far_o from_o he_o and_o busy_a vex_v one_o another_o shall_v come_v and_o come_v together_o their_o work_n and_o business_n in_o come_v be_v to_o seek_v the_o lord_n and_o the_o manner_n of_o it_o be_v go_v and_o weep_v pray_v and_o repent_v and_o although_o the_o way_n be_v somewhat_o dark_a and_o not_o so_o discernible_a to_o they_o yet_o they_o go_v on_o ask_v the_o way_n to_o zion_n with_o their_o face_n thitherward_o they_o ask_v how_o they_o may_v come_v to_o he_o worship_n god_n again_o aright_o and_o perform_v the_o duty_n of_o a_o people_n inchurch_v to_o and_o in_o covenant_n with_o he_o and_o as_o it_o be_v from_o one_o post_n or_o town_n to_o another_o they_o ask_v the_o way_n and_o get_v direction_n from_o one_o day_n to_o another_o and_o from_o one_o duty_n to_o another_o and_o their_o design_n in_o all_o be_v come_v say_v they_o on_o the_o matter_n we_o be_v once_o in_o covenant_n with_o god_n and_o with_o one_o another_o but_o we_o have_v be_v unfaithful_a in_o both_o now_o let_v we_o amend_v and_o make_v up_o the_o breach_n in_o both_o let_v we_o join_v ourselves_o to_o the_o lord_n in_o a_o perpetual_a covenant_n never_o to_o be_v forget_v let_v we_o renew_v our_o covenant_n with_o god_n and_o let_v it_o be_v do_v firm_o and_o sure_o so_o as_o it_o may_v not_o be_v break_v again_o this_o look_n and_o have_v respect_n to_o jeremiah_n 31.31_o etc._n etc._n and_o 32.49_o 40._o where_o the_o lord_n promise_v to_o make_v a_o new_a covenant_n with_o the_o house_n of_o israel_n and_o with_o the_o house_n of_o judah_n cite_v by_o the_o apostle_n heb._n 8._o and_o it_o be_v call_v chap._n 32._o a_o everlasting_a covenant_n which_o be_v not_o so_o much_o to_o be_v understand_v of_o mere_a external_a covenant_v as_o of_o save_v share_n in_o and_o partake_v of_o christ_n righteousness_n for_o the_o pardon_n of_o sin_n and_o of_o their_o engage_v to_o god_n in_o his_o own_o strength_n to_o be_v forthcoming_a in_o the_o fruit_n of_o save_a grace_n and_o holiness_n in_o their_o practice_n this_o be_v in_o sum_n the_o way_n and_o course_n which_o they_o take_v and_o be_v a_o short_a directory_n for_o what_o shall_v be_v a_o people_n carriage_n when_o they_o will_v make_v up_o the_o breach_n of_o a_o break_a covenant_n with_o god_n as_o for_o the_o particular_a scope_n of_o this_o place_n as_o it_o relate_v to_o israel_n and_o judah_n their_o return_v together_o we_o shall_v not_o insist_v in_o it_o yet_o from_o these_o word_n we_o may_v see_v first_o that_o there_o be_v good_a ground_n for_o we_o to_o expect_v the_o lord_n bring_v back_o his_o scatter_a people_n the_o jew_n and_o their_o engraff_n again_o into_o their_o own_o olive_n the_o same_o god_n that_o persuade_v japhet_n to_o dwell_v in_o the_o tent_n of_o shem_n can_v persuade_v shem_n to_o dwell_v in_o the_o tent_n of_o japhet_n as_o they_o mind_v we_o gentile_n as_o a_o little_a sister_n and_o be_v holy_o solicitous_a what_o they_o may_v do_v for_o we_o we_o ought_v in_o gratitude_n to_o mind_v they_o as_o the_o elder_a sister_n that_o they_o may_v turn_v again_o to_o the_o lord_n who_o have_v give_v we_o his_o faithful_a word_n for_o it_o which_o can_v fail_v but_o must_v be_v fulfil_v second_o we_o see_v that_o heart-melting_a towards_o god_n and_o seriousness_n to_o make_v up_o the_o breach_n of_o a_o break_a covenant_n betwixt_o a_o people_n and_o he_o conduce_v native_o to_o make_v the_o heart_n of_o those_o that_o have_v be_v divide_v and_o set_v at_o variance_n from_o one_o another_o in_o much_o warmness_n of_o love_n to_o unite_v and_o sweet_o to_o join_v together_o it_o be_v from_o this_o that_o israel_n and_o judah_n become_v one_o stick_n in_o the_o lord_n hand_n ezek._n 37._o this_o make_v they_o as_o melt_v mettle_n to_o run_v close_o together_o as_o it_o be_v into_o one_o lump_n though_o it_o be_v a_o long_a continue_a schism_n and_o have_v much_o bitterness_n attend_v it_o yet_o when_o their_o heart_n be_v touch_v with_o a_o sense_n of_o sin_n and_o of_o a_o break_a covenant_n their_o former_a difference_n and_o animosity_n evanish_v softness_n of_o heart_n in_o the_o sense_n of_o by_o go_v sin_n will_v silence_v many_o thing_n among_o we_o that_o all_o dispute_n write_n and_o printing_n will_v not_o be_v able_a to_o do_v pray_v for_o this_o to_o the_o land_n as_o the_o most_o effectual_a mean_a and_o way_n of_o cure_v out_o division_n and_o of_o unite_n we_o in_o the_o lord_n it_o join_v judah_n and_o israel_n together_o who_o breach_n be_v much_o great_a and_o of_o far_o long_a continuance_n than_o we_o three_o we_o see_v here_o that_o a_o people_n join_v and_o run_v together_o in_o serious_a seek_v of_o the_o lord_n be_v very_o commendable_a and_o lovely_a and_o a_o good_a token_n and_o evidence_n to_o they_o of_o their_o turn_n to_o god_n and_o of_o god_n accept_v of_o they_o even_o as_o bitterness_n and_o division_n be_v exceed_o displease_v to_o god_n and_o prejudicial_a to_o themselves_o and_o to_o the_o work_n of_o grace_n in_o they_o this_o be_v a_o happy-like_a hopeful_a and_o promise_a day_n of_o repentance_n and_o turn_n to_o god_n that_o bode_v much_o unspeakable_o much_o good_a to_o a_o land_n and_o people_n but_o we_o come_v to_o consider_v the_o word_n as_o they_o do_v direct_v unto_o and_o chalk_n out_o the_o way_n for_o a_o people_n return_v to_o make_v up_o a_o break_a covenant_n with_o god_n which_o be_v the_o scope_n and_o we_o may_v take_v it_o up_o in_o these_o three_o first_o as_o it_o respect_v the_o frame_n of_o their_o heart_n and_o o_o what_o a_o tender_a humble_a warm_a and_o mournful_a frame_n be_v they_o represent_v to_o be_v in_o they_o shall_v come_v and_o go_v together_o exciting_a one_o another_o go_v and_o weep_v with_o their_o face_n towards_o zion_n second_o as_o it_o respect_v and_o hold_v forth_o the_o great_a design_n they_o have_v and_o that_o be_v to_o renew_v and_o make_v sure_a the_o covenant_n betwixt_o god_n &_o they_o though_o it_o be_v now_o break_v and_o they_o want_v not_o challenge_n for_o it_o yet_o they_o do_v not_o say_v we_o will_v never_o enter_v in_o it_o again_o because_o we_o break_v it_o the_o last_o time_n we_o make_v it_o but_o come_v say_v they_o let_v we_o make_v it_o the_o more_o firm_a and_o stable_a three_o as_o it_o respect_v and_o hold_v out_o their_o posture_n and_o the_o way_n which_o they_o take_v in_o pursue_v this_o design_n there_o be_v a_o go_v and_o weep_v a_o pray_v to_o and_o seek_v of_o the_o lord_n in_o a_o word_n they_o seek_v and_o endeavour_v to_o renew_v their_o covenant_n with_o god_n serious_o diligent_o and_o humble_o and_o thus_o they_o pursue_v their_o design_n first_o then_o if_o we_o look_v to_o their_o frame_n we_o will_v find_v employ_v in_o it_o 1._o a_o guilty_a condition_n 2._o a_o challenge_v and_o convince_a condition_n 3._o a_o repent_a condition_n they_o be_v kind_o affect_v with_o the_o wrong_n do_v to_o god_n and_o desire_n and_o use_v mean_n to_o have_v they_o right_v we_o shall_v name_v two_o or_o three_o general_a doctrine_n from_o this_o first_o consideration_n of_o the_o word_n though_o in_o effect_n it_o will_v fall_v in_o with_o the_o last_o the_o first_o whereof_o be_v this_o that_o god_n covenant_v people_n may_v deal_v foul_o and_o false_o in_o his_o covenant_n for_o their_o come_n to_o renew_v the_o covenant_n suppose_v that_o they_o have_v break_v it_o and_o it_o be_v also_o employ_v in_o their_o mourning_n and_o weep_v and_o say_v come_v and_o let_v we_o join_v ourselves_o to_o the_o lord_n in_o a_o perpetual_a covenant_n never_o to_o be_v forget_v this_o need_v no_o further_a
