the_o word_n profit_n he_o comprehend_v pleasure_n honour_n etc._n etc._n profit_n or_o advantage_n they_o bring_v along_o with_o they_o and_o who_o let_v these_o prevail_v more_o with_o they_o than_o virtue_n and_o honesty_n frequent_o in_o deliberate_v use_n to_o put_v that_o which_o they_o take_v to_o be_v profitable_a into_o the_o balance_n against_o justice_n and_o honesty_n but_o good_a and_o wise_a man_n never_o offer_v to_o do_v it_o it_o it_o have_v bring_v all_o the_o argument_n urge_v against_o panaetius_n for_o propose_v this_o head_n he_o now_o show_v that_o they_o have_v all_o mistake_v his_o mean_v for_o that_o he_o do_v not_o say_v profit_n may_v be_v oppose_v to_o honesty_n but_o only_o that_o man_n ordinary_o use_v to_o oppose_v it_o and_o explain_v what_o be_v the_o true_a meaning_n of_o this_o head_n and_o how_o people_n come_v to_o deliberate_v upon_o it_o i_o be_o therefore_o of_o opinion_n when_o panaetius_n tell_v we_o that_o man_n use_v to_o deliberate_v in_o consider_v which_o of_o these_o two_o they_o shall_v choose_v that_o he_o mean_v no_o more_o than_o what_o his_o word_n strict_o signify_v viz._n that_o they_o use_v to_o do_v this_o and_o not_o that_o real_o they_o ought_v to_o do_v it_o for_o it_o be_v infinite_o scandalous_a not_o only_o to_o prefer_v a_o pretend_a advantage_n before_o duty_n and_o conscience_n but_o so_o much_o as_o to_o bring_v they_o to_o the_o contest_v and_o competition_n and_o to_o doubt_v whether_o the_o one_o of_o they_o shall_v be_v choose_v before_o the_o other_o if_o this_o be_v so_o you_o will_v be_v ready_a to_o ask_v i_o how_o then_o come_v there_o to_o be_v any_o doubt_n at_o all_o and_o what_o be_v it_o that_o require_v consideration_n upon_o this_o subject_n i_o suppose_v it_o be_v this_o that_o it_o sometime_o happen_v 6._o happen_v the_o subject_a therefore_o of_o this_o book_n be_v not_o when_o a_o plain_a duty_n seem_v opposite_a to_o our_o worldly_a interest_n viz._n riches_n pleasure_n or_o the_o like_a to_o deliberate_v which_o of_o those_o two_o we_o shall_v follow_v our_o pleasure_n suppose_v or_o our_o duty_n the_o very_a deliberate_v in_o such_o a_o case_n be_v impious_a as_o he_o often_o say_v but_o the_o design_n of_o the_o book_n be_v when_o a_o action_n on_o the_o one_o hand_n be_v apparent_o for_o our_o worldly_a advantage_n and_o on_o the_o other_o be_v somewhat_o doubtful_a whether_o consistent_a with_o our_o duty_n or_o not_o then_o to_o teach_v we_o how_o to_o determine_v ourselves_o so_o as_o that_o a_o seem_a interest_n may_v betray_v we_o into_o that_o which_o be_v opposite_a to_o our_o real_a one_o i_o e._n our_o duty_n and_o honesty_n he_o give_v one_o instance_n of_o kill_v a_o tyrant_n which_o may_v easy_o be_v apply_v to_o a_o great_a many_o other_o dubious_a case_n in_o give_v direction_n about_o which_o he_o continue_v to_o chap._n 7._o where_o he_o begin_v again_o his_o former_a discourse_n see_v the_o latter_a end_n of_o chap._n 6._o man_n be_v not_o so_o very_o certain_a whether_o the_o action_n deliberate_v upon_o be_v honest_a or_o not_o honest_a for_o that_o which_o be_v usual_o count_v a_o piece_n of_o villainy_n be_v frequent_o change_v by_o the_o time_n or_o circumstance_n and_o be_v find_v to_o be_v the_o contrary_n to_o lay_v down_o one_o instance_n which_o may_v serve_v to_o give_v some_o light_n to_o a_o great_a many_o other_o pray_v what_o great_a wickedness_n can_v there_o be_v upon_o earth_n if_o we_o speak_v in_o general_n than_o for_o any_o one_o to_o murder_n not_o only_o a_o man_n but_o a_o familiar_a friend_n and_o shall_v we_o therefore_o affirm_v that_o he_o be_v chargeable_a with_o a_o crime_n who_o have_v murder_v a_o tyrant_n though_o he_o be_v his_o familiar_a it_o familiar_a the_o roman_n think_v no_o duty_n so_o great_a as_o those_o that_o regard_v the_o maintenance_n of_o their_o liberty_n for_o the_o sake_n of_o which_o they_o will_v break_v through_o all_o other_o obligation_n whatever_o nay_o there_o be_v a_o law_n among_o they_o that_o he_o who_o kill_v a_o tyrant_n shall_v not_o be_v question_v for_o it_o the_o people_n of_o rome_n i_o be_o sure_a will_v say_v so_o who_o count_v it_o one_o of_o the_o glorious_a action_n in_o the_o world_n you_o will_v say_v then_o do_v not_o inter_v here_o carry_v it_o against_o honesty_n no_o community_n no_o that_o be_v a_o tyrant_n be_v not_o therefore_o to_o be_v kill_v because_o it_o be_v a_o profitable_a action_n though_o contrary_a to_o honesty_n but_o because_o it_o be_v a_o honest_a as_o well_o as_o a_o profitable_a one_o for_o what_o can_v be_v more_o honest_a or_o agreeable_a to_o nature_n than_o by_o take_v off_o one_o man_n to_o preserve_v a_o whole_a community_n but_o rather_o honesty_n voluntary_o follow_v interest_n doubt_n interest_n have_v show_v what_o be_v the_o subject_a of_o deliberation_n
