not_o but_o it_o will_v appear_v in_o the_o next_o section_n that_o every_o one_o of_o those_o declarative_a sign_n mention_v by_o mr._n bowles_n do_v bind_v and_o dedicate_v to_o god_n service_n those_o that_o use_v they_o as_o much_o as_o the_o sign_n of_o the_o cross_n and_o be_v purposely_o design_v to_o distinguish_v the_o pious_a and_o devout_a worshipper_n of_o god_n as_o well_o as_o to_o express_v their_o devout_a affection_n before_o man_n and_o that_o therefore_o mr._n b_n insist_v on_o the_o cross_n be_v a_o dedicate_a sign_n or_o a_o distinguish_a badge_n to_o prove_v it_o a_o sacrament_n be_v no_o more_o than_o a_o play_v with_o word_n and_o amuse_v the_o reader_n by_o endeavour_v to_o fix_v that_o doctrine_n on_o we_o under_o equivocal_a term_n which_o we_o utter_o deny_v and_o the_o only_a question_n here_o will_v be_v whether_o we_o or_o mr._n b._n know_v our_o doctrine_n best_a if_o our_o church_n if_o our_o divine_n may_v be_v believe_v the_o cross_n be_v only_o a_o declarative_a sign_n of_o our_o pious_a affection_n not_o to_o be_v ashamed_a of_o christ_n crucify_a etc._n etc._n but_o if_o you_o believe_v mr._n b._n it_o be_v something_o more_o that_o make_v it_o a_o sacrament_n but_o this_o belong_v more_o proper_o to_o the_o next_o section_n of_o oblige_a sign_n and_o i_o shall_v proceed_v to_o consider_v those_o sect._n v._o concern_v oblige_a sign_n i._n but_o four_o a_o sign_n may_v be_v call_v oblige_v because_o it_o oblige_v god_n by_o his_o promise_n to_o give_v we_o the_o spiritual_a grace_n or_o benefit_n signify_v by_o it_o when_o we_o due_o use_v it_o this_o be_v the_o second_o thing_n i_o observe_v necessary_a to_o make_v up_o a_o sacrament_n i_o tell_v you_o in_o my_o admonition_n p._n 65._o that_o this_o be_v the_o very_a thing_n that_o constitute_v a_o sign_n to_o be_v a_o sacrament_n and_o distinguish_v it_o from_o all_o other_o sign_n and_o this_o be_v want_v though_o a_o sign_n have_v all_o other_o thing_n like_o a_o sacrament_n yet_o it_o will_v no_o more_o be_v a_o sacrament_n than_o a_o image_n that_o in_o every_o thing_n resemble_v a_o man_n but_o want_v a_o soul_n will_v be_v a_o man._n mr._n b._n own_v that_o this_o be_v necessary_a to_o a_o sacrament_n and_o do_v not_o pretend_v that_o we_o ascribe_v this_o use_n to_o the_o sign_n of_o the_o cross_n and_o therefore_o i_o may_v dismiss_v this_o point_n as_o agree_v however_o i_o think_v it_o necessary_a here_o to_o observe_v that_o when_o god_n have_v give_v a_o man_n power_n to_o confer_v any_o favour_n or_o benefit_n on_o another_o though_o he_o have_v not_o appoint_v any_o sign_n by_o which_o that_o person_n be_v to_o confer_v it_o yet_o the_o scripture_n warrant_v he_o to_o use_v such_o sign_n as_o be_v proper_a in_o the_o employ_v in_o these_o case_n act_n 13._o 3._o when_o they_o have_v fast_v and_o pray_v they_o lay_v their_o hand_n on_o they_o and_o send_v they_o away_o there_o be_v several_a other_o such_o sign_n in_o scripture_n which_o be_v not_o sacrament_n because_o though_o a_o spiritual_a benefit_n or_o gift_n be_v confer_v with_o the_o use_n of_o they_o yet_o it_o be_v not_o by_o virtue_n of_o any_o promise_v annex_v to_o the_o use_n of_o the_o sign_n themselves_o as_o it_o be_v in_o baptism_n and_o the_o lord_n supper_n but_o by_o virtue_n of_o the_o general_n command_v to_o those_o authorize_v person_n to_o confer_v those_o benefit_n or_o grace_n in_o the_o confer_v of_o which_o these_o sign_n be_v no_o mean_n or_o condition_n nor_o have_v they_o any_o other_o part_n beside_o that_o of_o be_v solemnity_n of_o the_o action_n and_o signify_v the_o person_n intention_n to_o exercise_v the_o power_n that_o god_n have_v give_v he_o at_o the_o time_n when_o he_o use_v they_o and_o this_o be_v careful_o to_o be_v observe_v otherwise_o we_o shall_v easy_o be_v mistake_v in_o the_o nature_n of_o sacrament_n and_o imagine_v thing_n to_o be_v so_o that_o real_o be_v not_o ii_o five_o a_o sign_n may_v be_v call_v oblige_v because_o it_o be_v a_o declaration_n from_o god_n of_o his_o will_n that_o he_o require_v certain_a duty_n and_o return_v from_o we_o which_o be_v signify_v and_o represent_v to_o we_o in_o the_o sign_n which_o declaration_n oblige_v we_o to_o perform_v those_o duty_n and_o make_v those_o return_v i_o have_v show_v already_o in_o the_o second_o particular_a that_o only_a god_n can_v appoint_v these_o sign_n and_o that_o such_o declarative_a sign_n of_o god_n will_n where_o they_o have_v no_o promise_n annex_v of_o some_o spiritual_a grace_n or_o benefit_n be_v not_o sacrament_n though_o they_o be_v obligation_n on_o we_o from_o god_n i_o must_v add_v that_o the_o sign_n of_o the_o cross_n be_v not_o use_v by_o our_o church_n to_o any_o such_o our_o covenant_n with_o god_n or_o dedicate_v ourselves_o to_o he_o by_o a_o sign_n for_o any_o other_o reason_n but_o because_o it_o declare_v and_o signify_v our_o resolution_n and_o promise_n to_o
