to_o those_o general_a moral_a maxim_n of_o god_n to_o be_v worship_v and_o serve_v parent_n to_o be_v honour_v theft_n murder_n adultery_n and_o other_o vice_n to_o be_v punish_v and_o the_o like_a yet_o since_o this_o they_o do_v as_o thereunto_o lead_v from_o their_o own_o several_a observation_n of_o the_o mischief_n follow_v or_o to_o be_v fear_v from_o the_o contrary_a practice_n or_o neglect_n of_o these_o thing_n it_o must_v follow_v that_o as_o man_n come_v different_o to_o raise_v these_o conclusion_n so_o must_v these_o prejudices_fw-la and_o prepossession_n different_o bias_n and_o direct_v they_o again_o when_o they_o come_v to_o refer_v back_o and_o apply_v they_o to_o particular_a use_n and_o action_n whereupon_o although_o all_o man_n do_v agree_v to_o the_o reasonableness_n of_o god_n worship_n and_o service_n and_o the_o punishment_n of_o vice_n and_o reward_n of_o virtue_n yet_o will_v it_o be_v hard_a to_o find_v any_o considerable_a number_n direct_o to_o agree_v wherein_o and_o in_o what_o sort_n this_o worship_n be_v to_o be_v manifest_v and_o so_o again_o how_o to_o state_n and_o bind_v each_o virtue_n or_o vice_n and_o to_o proportion_v their_o just_a reward_n or_o punishment_n in_o which_o regard_n as_o a_o divers_a ability_n interest_n and_o prepossession_n will_v make_v man_n disagree_v in_o what_o be_v adultery_n murder_n theft_n etc._n etc._n and_o how_o far_o punishable_a so_o may_v the_o like_a consideration_n general_o cause_v aversion_n from_o entertain_v other_o moral_a maxim_n as_o necessary_a as_o these_o nay_o more_o indeed_o as_o be_v their_o support_n and_o foundation_n as_o for_o example_n in_o that_o of_o implicit_a obedience_n for_o as_o public_a preservation_n and_o good_a do_v depend_v on_o the_o due_a reward_n and_o punishment_n of_o virtue_n and_o vice_n so_o do_v the_o same_o again_o depend_v on_o the_o maintenance_n of_o his_o authority_n that_o be_v to_o have_v the_o trust_v therein_o and_o therefore_o by_o right_a reason_n shall_v this_o have_v be_v set_v down_o in_o the_o first_o place_n and_o next_o to_o our_o obedience_n to_o god_n have_v not_o thirst_n of_o licentiousness_n make_v man_n in_o all_o conclusion_n and_o maxim_n of_o subjection_n and_o obedience_n to_o fancy_v the_o great_a number_n of_o restraint_n and_o qualification_n to_o be_v observe_v in_o the_o command_n of_o such_o superior_n who_o place_n themselves_o shall_v never_o probable_o act_v as_o to_o prince_n or_o the_o like_a and_o on_o the_o contrary_a place_n more_o implicit_a obedience_n towards_o parent_n master_n etc._n etc._n which_o office_n themselves_o always_o do_v or_o be_v likely_a to_o supply_v as_o if_o those_o that_o have_v the_o great_a command_n and_o trust_v be_v upon_o good_a reason_n to_o have_v the_o least_o power_n to_o see_v the_o
left_a hand_n of_o christ_n in_o his_o church_n etc._n shall_v be_v leave_v to_o the_o dispose_n of_o providence_n as_o heretofore_o declare_v but_o now_o it_o be_v not_o every_o patience_n or_o dull_a insensibility_n under_o every_o affliction_n that_o be_v to_o have_v this_o honour_n and_o reward_n but_o that_o patience_n most_o proper_o that_o be_v accompany_v with_o the_o duty_n of_o obedience_n for_o i_o may_v give_v all_o i_o have_v to_o the_o poor_a nay_o my_o body_n to_o be_v burn_v and_o yet_o be_v but_o charitable_a to_o myself_o in_o design_n to_o my_o own_o honour_n but_o when_o i_o be_o so_o take_v up_o with_o the_o good_a of_o other_o in_o order_n to_o my_o love_n of_o he_o who_o image_n they_o bear_v that_o in_o sure_a token_n thereof_o i_o can_v forgive_v all_o injury_n and_o they_o also_o that_o do_v they_o here_o be_v charity_n upon_o charity_n which_o in_o care_n of_o public_a peace_n and_o good_a suffer_v long_o etc._n be_v kind_a envy_v not_o be_v not_o puff_v up_o but_o bear_v all_o thing_n which_o expression_n as_o they_o proper_o betoken_v the_o virtue_n of_o such_o as_o be_v to_o be_v subject_a to_o authority_n so_o may_v they_o serve_v to_o expound_v to_o we_o those_o saying_n of_o our_o saviour_n whosoever_o shall_v smite_v thou_o etc._n etc._n namely_o that_o the_o right_a use_n of_o patience_n be_v thereby_o mean_v even_o patience_n under_o authority_n and_o not_o any_o stupid_a neglect_n of_o our_o own_o safety_n for_o so_o in_o saint_n matthew_n it_o be_v whosoever_o shall_v smite_v thou_o on_o the_o right_a cheek_n 15.35_o etc._n etc._n whereby_o we_o be_v to_o understand_v that_o those_o evil_n be_v not_o to_o be_v resist_v that_o come_v from_o man_n on_o our_o right_a hand_n that_o be_v be_v above_o we_o and_o so_o love_n useful_a to_o humane_a preservation_n and_o god_n honour_n that_o sometime_o it_o supply_v the_o place_n of_o charity_n and_o be_v join_v to_o faith_n in_o christ_n as_o the_o other_o fundamental_a requisite_a to_o salvation_n nay_o sometime_o go_v alone_a as_o the_o most_o sure_a groundwork_n thereof_o and_o true_a token_n also_o of_o christian_a faith_n itself_o for_o so_o run_v our_o savior_n admonition_n in_o patience_n possess_v you_o your_o soul_n and_o to_o that_o purpose_n say_v saint_n james_n 1.3_o the_o trial_n of_o your_o faith_n work_v patience_n and_o then_o to_o show_v the_o perfection_n that_o follow_v patience_n he_o add_v but_o let_v patience_n have_v her_o perfect_a work_n 4._o that_o you_o may_v be_v perfect_a and_o entire_a want_v nothing_o and_o st._n paul_n have_v set_v forth_o our_o access_n to_o god_n through_o faith_n after_o add_v and_o not_o only_o so_o but_o we_o glory_n in_o tribulation_n also_o know_v that_o tribulation_n work_v patience_n word_n be_v put_v first_o under_o the_o precept_n of_o refrain_v our_o tongue_n from_o evil_a and_o then_o follow_v the_o admomonition_n for_o action_n let_v he_o eschew_v evil_a and_o do_v good_a let_v he_o not_o only_o forbear_v resistance_n but_o be_v obedient_a also_o and_o thereupon_o shall_v he_o be_v in_o a_o state_n both_o to_o seek_v peace_n and_o ensue_v it_o 11_o as_o general_o to_o husband_n may_v far_o serve_v to_o show_v that_o this_o patience_n be_v occasion_v from_o that_o degree_n of_o subjection_n and_o bondage_n which_o god_n by_o reason_n of_o their_o appoint_a subordination_n have_v put_v they_o under_o when_o he_o say_v in_o sorrow_n shall_v thou_o conceive_v 3.15_o and_o thy_o desire_n shall_v be_v subject_a to_o thy_o husband_n so_o that_o then_o each_o have_v mysterous_o thus_o avow_v his_o own_o power_n and_o still_o use_v meek_a and_o love_a entreaty_n whereas_o he_o may_v have_v come_v with_o a_o rod_n etc._n in_o vindication_n of_o his_o power_n in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n it_o be_v out_o of_o jealousy_n of_o rob_v god_n of_o his_o honour_n by_o think_v of_o man_n above_o what_o be_v write_v and_o to_o leave_v they_o also_o a_o example_n of_o great_a humility_n since_o he_o that_o be_v chief_a among_o they_o take_v no_o more_o upon_o he_o have_v also_o by_o this_o abatement_n of_o himself_o who_o as_o a_o apostle_n be_v their_o receive_v you_o receive_v i_o etc._n etc._n so_o that_o we_o may_v see_v the_o mystery_n of_o their_o duty_n of_o obedience_n to_o christ_n minister_n plain_o infer_v when_o by_o forbid_v to_o think_v of_o man_n above_o what_o be_v write_v it_o must_v be_v suppose_v their_o duty_n to_o give_v what_o be_v write_v without_o this_o way_n of_o interpretation_n and_o by_o consideration_n and_o regard_n have_v unto_o the_o dignity_n and_o authority_n of_o christ_n minister_n and_o the_o steward_n of_o the_o mystery_n of_o god_n 1._o it_o will_v be_v very_o hard_a to_o make_v the_o word_n for_o to_o be_v pertinent_a in_o the_o say_a sentence_n that_o no_o one_o of_o you_o be_v puff_v up_o for_o one_o against_o another_o because_o we_o be_v to_o conceive_v that_o although_o faithfulness_n be_v require_v in_o steward_n yet_o it_o be_v not_o as_o heretofore_o note_v subject_v to_o man_n judgement_n 2._o but_o to_o god_n who_o steward_n they_o be_v the_o people_n be_v therefore_o to_o refer_v their_o censure_n of_o their_o superior_n power_n or_o prudence_n to_o he_o that_o be_v the_o guide_n as_o well_o as_o the_o searcher_n of_o their_o heart_n when_o christ_n at_o his_o second_o come_v shall_v bring_v to_o light_v the_o hide_a thing_n of_o darkness_n that_o be_v 4._o shall_v discover_v the_o reason_n of_o this_o mystical_a way_n of_o empower_v his_o substitute_n and_o shall_v then_o also_o by_o make_v manifest_a the_o counsel_n of_o heart_n convince_v man_n that_o many_o thing_n be_v by_o their_o superior_n do_v upon_o good_a counsel_n and_o consideration_n which_o they_o by_o harken_v to_o private_a doctrine_n and_o guide_n may_v misconstrue_v and_o so_o be_v lead_v into_o schism_n and_o sedition_n whilst_o they_o shall_v be_v thus_o puff_v up_o for_o one_o another_o as_o they_o stand_v each_o one_o distinct_o conceit_v and_o interest_v in_o their_o several_a congregation_n and_o head_n and_o thereby_o come_v to_o be_v real_o and_o effectual_o one_o against_o another_o in_o respect_n of_o that_o breach_n of_o public_a peace_n and_o charity_n which_o this_o factious_a proceed_n and_o disrespect_n to_o one_o head_n must_v produce_v and_o of_o this_o mystical_a delivery_n of_o his_o authority_n we_o shall_v far_o instance_n in_o one_o place_n as_o particular_o remarkable_a for_o set_v the_o power_n of_o each_o church_n head_n in_o such_o a_o way_n as_o not_o to_o be_v subject_a either_o to_o rob_v god_n of_o his_o honour_n or_o to_o give_v scandal_n by_o his_o own_o claim_v authority_n to_o himself_o in_o too_o plain_a a_o manner_n he_o have_v praise_v the_o corinthian_n for_o keep_v the_o ordinance_n deliver_v unto_o they_o whereby_o they_o have_v show_v themselves_o disciple_n 2._o or_o follower_n of_o he_o as_o he_o be_v of_o christ_n he_o than_o add_v to_o take_v off_o all_o show_n of_o boast_v but_o i_o will_v have_v you_o know_v that_o the_o head_n of_o every_o man_n be_v christ_n 3._o and_o the_o head_n of_o the_o woman_n be_v the_o man_n and_o the_o head_n of_o christ_n be_v god_n that_o be_v i_o will_v not_o be_v understand_v as_o claim_v this_o obedience_n in_o my_o own_o name_n but_o as_o under_o christ_n the_o head_n of_o every_o man_n that_o be_v more_o especial_o of_o every_o man_n thus_o exalt_v in_o power_n for_o as_o we_o can_v interpret_v christ_n to_o be_v head_n of_o every_o single_a man_n so_o as_o to_o exclude_v the_o whole_a sex_n of_o woman_n no_o more_o can_v we_o think_v that_o in_o regard_n of_o power_n and_o subjection_n one_o to_o another_o which_o be_v the_o scope_n of_o what_o go_v before_o and_o what_o follow_v that_o every_o man_n stand_v in_o like_a relation_n to_o christ._n but_o that_o although_o all_o single_a man_n and_o woman_n so_o far_o as_o they_o be_v christian_n be_v alike_o his_o member_n yet_o do_v they_o differ_v as_o they_o stand_v in_o their_o oeconomy_n relate_v as_o minister_n and_o member_n in_o each_o particular_a church_n therefore_o we_o can_v conceive_v that_o all_o this_o serious_a discourse_n shall_v be_v literal_o take_v as_o drive_v at_o nothing_o but_o woman_n cover_n their_o head_n or_o of_o man_n be_v bareheaded_a in_o time_n of_o pray_v or_o prophesy_v as_o if_o god_n care_v for_o the_o one_o or_o the_o other_o as_o in_o themselves_o but_o to_o show_v that_o according_a to_o the_o drift_n of_o the_o former_a chapter_n there_o ought_v to_o be_v order_n keep_v in_o all_o our_o public_a service_n and_o that_o also_o this_o order_n and_o uniformity_n be_v to_o be_v direct_v by_o obedience_n so_o that_o by_o man_n we_o may_v understand_v the_o head_n of_o each_o church_n and_o by_o woman_n the_o member_n thereof_o and_o most_o especial_o those_o of_o the_o clergy_n who_o be_v as_o wife_n to_o be_v direct_v herein_o by_o their_o husband_n and_o pray_v and_o prophesy_v we_o may_v understand_v put_v for_o the_o whole_a outward_a service_n that_o this_o be_v only_o parabolical_o speak_v of_o woman_n with_o intention_n that_o under_o the_o instance_n of_o their_o subjection_n to_o their_o husband_n general_a subjection_n may_v be_v infer_v will_v appear_v in_o that_o the_o woman_n be_v herein_o propose_v as_o do_v that_o which_o she_o be_v not_o permit_v to_o do_v that_o be_v to_o prophesy_v and_o especial_o public_o 14.34_o for_o so_o we_o shall_v find_v he_o present_o say_v let_v your_o woman_n keep_v silence_n in_o the_o church_n for_o it_o be_v not_o permit_v unto_o they_o to_o speak_v but_o they_o be_v command_v to_o be_v under_o obedience_n 35._o as_o also_o say_v the_o law_n and_o if_o they_o will_v learn_v any_o thing_n let_v they_o ask_v their_o husband_n at_o home_n for_o it_o be_v a_o shame_n for_o woman_n to_o speak_v in_o the_o church_n in_o which_o place_n the_o occasion_n of_o the_o speech_n be_v also_o the_o same_o namely_o the_o avoidance_n of_o schism_n by_o have_v all_o thing_n do_v decent_o 40._o and_o in_o order_n that_o be_v by_o mean_n of_o subordination_n and_o subjection_n of_o the_o second_o and_o three_o rank_n of_o prophet_n and_o teacher_n unto_o apostolical_a authority_n 12.28_o which_o be_v the_o first_o and_o so_o establish_v by_o christ_n also_o again_o it_o will_v appear_v parabollical_o put_v for_o that_o the_o token_n of_o subjection_n there_o put_v down_o be_v not_o pertinent_a to_o set_v forth_o the_o subordination_n of_o woman_n to_o man_n literal_o take_v but_o be_v mysterious_o proper_a to_o set_v forth_o the_o subjection_n of_o each_o church_n to_o that_o husband_n unto_o who_o in_o christ_n she_o be_v marry_v for_o be_v bareheaded_a do_v not_o signify_v power_n and_o freedom_n nor_o be_v cover_v signify_v servitude_n but_o the_o quite_o contrary_a both_o in_o the_o sense_n of_o those_o time_n and_o we_o but_o if_o it_o be_v suppose_v not_o fit_a for_o the_o head_n of_o the_o church_n to_o pray_v with_o his_o head_n cover_v 4._o for_o dishonour_v his_o head_n that_o be_v christ_n from_o who_o all_o his_o authority_n be_v derive_v even_o so_o again_o by_o cover_v understand_v public_a church_n right_n and_o order_n each_o church_n be_v not_o then_o to_o be_v suppose_v leave_v bare_a and_o at_o liberty_n in_o these_o thing_n by_o her_o head_n as_o the_o head_n thereof_o be_v by_o christ_n his_o head_n but_o that_o she_o be_v to_o observe_v they_o as_o her_o cover_n 6._o or_o else_o renounce_v her_o obedience_n by_o be_v shear_v again_o apprehend_v the_o duty_n of_o obedience_n and_o subjection_n to_o be_v signify_v under_o sign_n contrary_a we_o may_v observe_v that_o the_o man_n ought_v not_o to_o cover_v his_o head_n bring_v to_o to_o disbelieve_v her_o soundness_n or_o insufficiency_n even_o so_o far_o as_o her_o communion_n may_v be_v hazardous_a and_o damnable_a obedience_n to_o she_o in_o any_o sort_n be_v not_o to_o be_v long_o expect_v and_o therefore_o although_o god_n have_v reserve_v to_o himself_o the_o prerogative_n of_o try_v the_o heart_n and_o reins_o and_o prince_n can_v have_v no_o
